The increasingly massive accumulation of plastic waste is triggering a global pollution crisis, causing severe economic and health issues. As an effective strategy to realize synchronous environmental remediation and value‐added chemical production, the catalytic upcycling of plastics has received extensive attention. Among the upcycling approaches, the emerging photothermal catalysis outstands with features of high conversion efficiency and mild reaction conditions. Herein, the advancements of photothermal catalysis in plastic waste upcycling are reviewed for the first time. The general limitations of the traditional thermocatalytic and photocatalytic upcycling of plastics are first discussed. Subsequently, the photothermal catalytic approaches to upcycling of plastics are classified into three categories depending on the catalytic mechanism, and discussed in depth. Finally, the current challenges in the field are appraised, and several suggestions concerning the investigation of the mechanisms and practical applications for the conversion of plastics into valuable chemicals are highlighted. Aromatic sultones could be obtained by the palladium-catalyzed cyclization reaction of arylsulfonic acids with simple arenes. The reaction proceeds through sulfonic acid group-directed multiple CH activations and involves the cleavage of CH and OH bonds as well as the formation of CC and CO bonds. Described herein is a Pd-catalyzed haloallylation of aromatic ynol ethers and allyl chlorides, allowing facile access to (1E)-α-chloroenol ethers in a highly regio- and stereoselective manner. A highly efficient and selective synthesis of (1E)- or (1Z)-1,2-dihalo-1,4-dienes viaPd-catalyzed coupling of haloalkynes and allylic halides is described. The (1E)-1,2-dihalo-1,4-dienes were generated in good yields with excellent stereoselectivities (1E/1Zup to >98/2), while (1Z)-1,2-dihalo-1,4-dienes were produced in excellent yields and stereoselectivities (1Z/1Eup to >98/2) by simply adding stoichiometric lithium halides. Catalysis based on two-dimensional silicon has been under intense investigation recently. However, its substandard catalytic activity is far from industrialization. In this work, we demonstrate a new solution to this problem formulated on the batch synthesis of siloxene with an enhanced specific surface area (217.8 m 2 g -1 ). A two-dimensional porous structure was prepared, enabling great support and dispersion of metal nanoparticles. Catalytic evaluations of such hybrid structures for the (photo)thermal CO 2 hydrogenation reaction and the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction revealed a significant performance advantage over the benchmark two-dimensional silicon structures synthesized via the conventional method. This work may confer notable viability on two-dimensional silicon for advanced energy, catalytic, and environmental applications.

A highly regio- and stereoselective method for the synthesis of cis-1,2-dihaloalkenes through Pd-catalyzed coupling of haloalkynes and α,β-unsaturated carbonyls has been reported. Excellent stereoselectivities (Z/E up to >98:2) were observed in most cases. This method was subsequently applied to synthesize the functionalized conjugated enyne via the mono-Sonogashira coupling reaction of cis-1-chloro-2-iodoalkene.
