Sino-Latin American trade have increased substantially for decades. However, the increasing trade imbalances between China and several Latin American countries have yielded growing trade frictions. In this paper, we re-calculate the bilateral trade balance using the value-added content in trade and measure the contribution of Sino-Latin American trade to economic growth. The results show that gross trade statistics seriously overestimate the real bilateral trade imbalance, and China's trade surplus with Mexico decreased by over 50%. The composition of Sino-Latin American trade suggests that most Latin American economies are complementary with Chinese economy. The South-South trade has been increasingly important for both China's and Latin America's economic development. We foresee an optimistic future of relations and continuously increasing trade between China and Latin America. Breast cancer is the most common cancer, and triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) has the highest metastasis and mortality rate among all breast cancer subtypes. Rujifang is a traditional Chinese medicine formula with many years of clinical application in breast cancer treatment. Here, we aim to investigate the effects of Rujifang on circulating tumor cell (CTC) dynamics and the tumor microenvironment in a ZsGreen/luciferase double‐labeled TNBC orthotopic model. We report that the number of CTCs monitored by in vivo flow cytometry (IVFC) strongly correlates with disease progression. Rujifang treatment decreased the number of CTCs and suppressed the distant metastasis of TNBC. Moreover, immunofluorescence analysis revealed that Rujifang treatment could affect the tumor microenvironment by downregulating Kindlin‐1, which has been reported to promote metastasis of TNBC. Our study provides evidence of the anti‐metastatic effect of Rujifang against TNBC in an animal model using fluorescent cell lines. The results suggest the potential therapeutic value of Rujifang as an anti‐metastatic drug, however, further clinical trials are needed to validate these findings in humans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China's economic growth slowed down in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding measures. There are great uncertainties in China's economic development in 2023. It is expected that China's medium and long-term economic growth rate will show a wavy downward trend. Based on input-output technology, econometrics, prosperity analysis, expert analysis, and scenario analysis, this study proposes a systematic integrated factor prediction approach on annual GDP growth. Through analysis of China's economic growth in 2022 and the current situation worldwide, China's economic growth rate is predicted to be about 6.0% in 2023, reverting to the normal level. The policy recommendations are further put forward based on the analysis, including strengthening the adjustment of macro-policy, implementing proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy, boosting domestic consumption, increasing employment and promoting investment, striving to stabilize the macro-economic market, preventing and defusing risks in major fields, and leveraging China's advantages in the global industrial chain. This paper proposes a dual‐band balanced bandpass filter (BPF) based on a single interfered substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity. The TE201, TE202, TE401, and TE402‐modes are controlled by the metallic vias and divided into two groups. The first passband is made up of the affected TE201 and TE202‐modes, while the second passband is made up of the disturbed TE401 and TE402‐modes. In this balanced BPF design, it realizes the requested differential‐mode (DM) transmission and common‐mode (CM) suppression. Particularly, the bandwidths (BWs) of the two DM passbands can be efficiently controlled by only adjusting the locations of these metallic vias. A prototype dual‐band balanced BPF operating at 16.71 and 22.23 GHz with BWs controllable is fabricated and measured for verification. Trade volume biases trade benefits under the background of economic globalization. Employing the input-output technique, important progress has been made in research on trade in value-added. It is noteworthy that capital globalization is one of the important manifestations of economic globalization. Owing to the ever-increasing transnational flow of capital, mainly by foreign direct investment (FDI), production of exports shows great dependence on foreign capital. A large part of value-added in exports are obtained by foreign factors owners, since foreign-invested enterprises account for a large proportion in host country's total exports, which is foreign income. The ultimate goal of trade is to boost national income. We propose to study trade benefits and trade balance from national income perspective, and further introduce the concept of global income chains to reveal economic benefits distribution within international specialization. Vertical specialization (VS) is quantified by the VS share, which measures the average import content per dollar of exports. A characteristic of China’s export trade is its strong dependence on assembly and processing activities. To take proper account of this, China’s VS shares should explicitly distinguish processing export production from other production. We estimate China’s annual VS shares from 2000 to 2012—the latest year for which a special input-output table is available that makes such an explicit distinction. We find that VS shares increased from 2000 to 2004 and subsequently started to decrease. To explore why it has declined, we introduce a new structural decomposition approach. We find that the decrease of the VS share appears to have been driven mainly by the substitution of imported intermediates by domestic products. Vertical specialization (VS) is often measured by the import contents of the exports, using an input–output (I–O) framework. Half of China's exports are processing exports, which largely depend on imported intermediate inputs and tie up upstream as well as downstream trade partners. Thus, one would expect to find strong VS for China. Using the ‘ordinary’ I–O tables, however, this is not the case. Because the production of processing exports is only a small part of total production, the average input structure in the I–O table hides the typical features of processing exports. Using adapted, tripartite I–O tables (for 2002 and 2007) in which the processing exports have been singled out, indeed reveals the expected strong VS in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since 2001, the exports of foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) have accounted for more than 50 percent of China's total exports. As foreign capital occupies a high proportion of the total capital of FIEs, most FIEs' capital gains are foreign factor income. Although these gains are calculated as a part of China's GDP, they do not belong to China's national income. To determine the real contribution of exports to China's welfare, the present paper analyses the impact of exports on China's national income using a non-competitive input-output model capturing processing trade. The results show that every US$1000 of China's exports generates US$506.8 of national income. The real contribution of exports to China's welfare is much smaller than what we expected. This suggests that China should endeavor to improve the gains from international markets or find another engine to maintain its economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes an extended input-output model on education. Production is divided into two subsystems, the education sector and the non-education sector. The education sector is reflected by both 'monetary flows' and 'student flows.' Second, static and dynamic extended input-output models, including human capital production and allocation, are built. Third, the 1999 Chinese extended input-output table on education is compiled. Based on this table, the relation between human capital production and national economic development is analyzed. In particular, it is found that too few university graduates are 'produced', while a surplus of young people with only primary-school education go into industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China has a population of 1.3 billion and grain accordingly plays a crucial role in the Chinese economy. In this paper we suggest predicting grain output mainly by factor inputs and asset holding, and present a Systematic Integrated Prediction Approach (SIPA). The key elements of SIPA are an extended input-output model with assets, nonlinear variable coefficient forecasting equations, and using the minimum sum of the absolute values. Since 1980 we have used the approach to predict the yearly national grain output of China. The prediction lead time is more than half a year. The bumper, average, and poor harvests are accurately predicted every year. The average error rate over the period 1980-2004 is 1.9%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using the input-output tables for water conservancy for the nine major river basins in China in combination with linear programming techniques, we calculate the shadow prices of industrial water and productive water in the nine river basins. After the results are subjected to factor analysis, the shadow prices of industrial water and productive water are obtained for each Chinese province in 1999. Then, nonlinear models for calculating the shadow price of water in specific counties are given. They appear to be valuable tools for setting reasonable water prices and establishing a market for water in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A major concern of policymakers and researchers in China is finding an appropriate size of the gross fixed capital investments for water conservancy (GFCIWC). This paper determines the optimal proportion of GFCIWC to GDP. Unlike engineering economics, we investigate the benefits of GFCIWC at a macro-economic level, using the 1999 input-output table extended for water conservancy. Different kinds of impacts are induced by GFCIWC. These include forward benefits (flood control, water supply, irrigation, hydroelectric power, soil and water conservation, environmental protection) and backward benefits for GDP; negative social effects; and opportunity costs of GFCIWC. The results are put into a set of regression equations between total benefits of GFCIWC and the proportion of GFCIWC to GDP, from which the optimal proportion - or a desirable range - can be determined. In this paper, the input–output model is extended with assets. It allows us to examine the various assets that are held and used in production. The requirements of assets that must be held by each sector can thus be specified. Extending the input–output model with assets provides a better alternative to the capital stock matrix in the standard Systems of National Accounts. The input–output model is extended by taking the depreciation of fixed assets into full account. This extension allows for the calculation of total holding coefficients that express the amount of assets that are required to be held in each sector in order to satisfy a unit of final demand. This paper presents a systematic integrated method (SIM), with the key elements of input-occupancy-output analysis, nonlinear variable coefficient forecasting equations, and minumum sum of absolute value technique to predict China's grain output. Background: As increasing experimental evidence suggests that iron metabolism play crucial roles in cancer and non-cancer conditions, there is a lack of data on serum soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), a promising marker representing unmet cellular iron demands, between cancer risk from epidemiological studies. Here, we aimed to evaluate the predictive value of sTfR and cancer prevalence., Materials and Methods: We analyzed on 5,480 adult participants from 2015 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Spearman correlation analysis was performed to investigate the correlations between sTfR and other characteristics. To identify the associations between sTfR and the prevalence of cancers, stratified multivariable logistic regression models, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were also performed., Results: In tertile analyses, participants in the highest level of sTfR were significantly associated with increased prevalence of total cancers [odds ratio (OR) = 1.53, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15-2.02] as compared with those at the lowest tertile. Each unit increment in ln-transformed sTfR concentration was shown to be associated with 39% increased risks of total cancers. Similar associations were found in males rather than females. Further subgroup and sensitivity analyses indicated that, in continuous and tertile analyses, sTfR was more closely associated with male- and female-specific cancers of prostate and testis (2.35: 1.03-5.40; 2.03: 1.00-4.09; respectively), and breast, cervix, ovary and uterus (1.92: 1.11-3.35; 1.66: 1.02-2.69; respectively)., Conclusions: Our findings suggested that elevated level of sTfR was associated with the prevalence of cancers, especially in sex-specific cancers.
