BackgroundLow back pain is the leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether dried fruit intake causally protects against low back pain using two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR).MethodsWe obtained summary-level data for dried fruit intake (N = 421,764) from the IEU Open GWAS Project. Forty-one independent genetic variants proxied dried fruit intake. The corresponding data for low back pain were derived from the FinnGen project (13,178 cases and 164,682 controls; discovery data) and the Neale lab (5,423 cases and 355,771 controls; replication data). We conducted univariable and multivariable MR analyses.ResultsIn the univariable MR analysis, the inverse variance weighted estimate showed that greater dried fruit intake was associated with decreased risk of low back pain [odds ratio (OR) = 0.435, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.287–0.659, P = 8.657 × 10−5]. Sensitivity analyses using the MR-Egger (OR = 0.078, 95% CI: 0.013–0.479, P = 0.009), maximum likelihood (OR = 0.433, 95% CI: 0.295–0.635, P = 1.801 × 10−5), weighted median (OR = 0.561, 95% CI: 0.325–0.967, P = 0.038) and Mendelian Randomization Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier (MR-PRESSO) (OR = 0.454, 95% CI: 0.302–0.683, P = 4.535 × 10−4) methods showed consistent results. No evidence of directional pleiotropy was identified according to the Egger intercept (intercept P-value = 0.065) or applying the MR-PRESSO method (global test P-value = 0.164). The replication analysis yielded similar results. The multivariable MR revealed that the inverse association between dried fruit intake and low back pain was consistent after adjustment for fresh fruit intake, body mass index, current tobacco smoking, alcohol intake frequency, total body bone mineral density, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels, and vigorous physical activity.ConclusionThis MR study provides evidence to support that dried fruit intake causally protects against low back pain.

Objective: Single-stranded DNA-binding protein 1 (SSBP1) plays an important role in DNA repair processes and the maintenance of genomic stability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of SSBP1 and its prognostic value in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) using bioinformatics approaches. Methods: We applied databases including UALCAN, Kaplan-Meier plotter, LinkedOmics, Webgestalt, cBioPortal and TIMER2.0 in this study. Results: We found that SSBP1 expression was up-regulated in LUAD samples and was correlated with clinicopathological features including age, cancer stage, and nodal metastasis status by the UALCAN analysis. Multivariate Cox regression analysis by the Kaplan-Meier plotter showed that high SSBP1 expression was independently correlated with poor overall survival (hazard ratio = 1.63, 95% confidence interval: 1.08−2.46, logrank P = 0.02). The LinkedOmics analysis showed that 5078 genes were positively correlated with SSBP1 expression, whereas 7905 genes were negatively correlated with SSBP1 in LUAD. Functional enrichment analysis using the Webgestalt tool showed that for SSBP1 and the genes positively correlating with it, the significantly enriched biological process was ribosomal large subunit biogenesis, and the significantly enriched pathway was proteasome. According to the cBioPortal database, the frequency of SSBP1 alterations was 1.7% in LUAD patients, and patients with SSBP1 alterations had worse prognosis (logrank P = 4.26e-05) compared with those unaltered for SSBP1. Finally, SSBP1 expression was negatively correlated with B cell infiltration level (Rho = −0.193, P = 1.54e-05) and the expression of B cell biomarkers including CD79A and CD19. Conclusion: Our results suggest that SSBP1 may be a prognostic marker for human LUAD.

Abstract. Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects the centrofacial areas and mainly manifests as recurrent flushing and erythema. In recent years, there has been progress in the understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea. Therefore, a group of dermatological experts updated the guidelines based on the 2016 expert consensus statement on rosacea diagnosis and treatment in China. These new guidelines propose diagnostic criteria for rosacea at different sites to further standardize the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea in China.

Abstract. Acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory skin disease that affects the pilosebaceous units, causinfollicular occlusion. The etiology and pathogenesis of acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa involves internal and external factors such as genetic susceptibility, inflammation and immunity, microorganisms, obesity, and smoking. acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa is difficult to treat, and the current aim of treatment is to control the frequency and duration of disease flares and improve the quality of life. Treatment protocols for acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa should be selected based on the disease severity grade. Medical treatments include antibiotics, retinoids, biologics, immunosuppressive agents, and antiandrogen agents. Adjuvant treatments include surgery and laser/light therapies. This consensus aims to further standardize the diagnosis and treatment procedures of acne inversa/hidradenitis suppurativa in China to facilitate its diagnosis and treatment.

Solar-blind ultraviolet photodetectors have received significant attention due to their extensive applications in both military and civilian fields. There is a need to develop self-powered photodetectors that exhibit high performance, characterized by attributes such as rapid response speed and enhanced responsivity, among others. In this work, a thin film of Ga4SnO8 nanorods was synthesized on a GaN substrate using low-cost hydrothermal method. The device showed excellent performance at 0 V bias voltage, with a maximum responsivity of 1.82 A/W, a detection rate of 6.45 × 1013 Jones, an external quantum efficiency of 8.23 × 102% at a wavelength of 275 nm UV light, a fast response time of 7 ms, and a decay time of 18 ms, respectively. The electron transport mechanism in the GaN/Ga4SnO8 heterojunction was analyzed through an analysis of the band diagram. Overall, this heterojunction photodetector has demonstrated significant potential for solar blind ultraviolet light detection. Its combination of self-powering capabilities, high performance, and rapid response makes it a promising candidate for applications requiring sensitive and reliable UV detection without interference from sunlight. Introduction Given the evidence that the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a number of case-control studies have attempted to assess the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in MMP genes and COPD risk. However, reliable measures of these results are lacking. Material and methods We assessed the published evidence for association of the MMP-3, MMP-9 and MMP-12 polymorphisms with COPD risk using meta-analytic techniques. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for each study using fixed or random effect models. Results A total of 23 case-control studies were included in the meta-analysis. No significant association was observed between the MMP-9 rs3918242 polymorphism and COPD risk in the overall populations under the dominant (T/T + C/T vs. C/C: OR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.00–1.69, p = 0.054) and allele contrast (T allele vs. C allele: OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.97–1.53, p = 0.088) models. However, in sub-group analysis the polymorphism rs3918242 was significant in Asians under the dominant model (T/T + C/T vs. C/C: OR = 1.66, 95% CI: 1.02–2.72, p = 0.043). The results for MMP-12 rs2276109 showed an association with COPD only in mixed populations (G/G + A/G vs. A/A: OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.10–2.24, p = 0.013; G allele vs. A allele: OR = 1.52, 95% CI: 1.09–2.14, p = 0.015). We did not find any significant association of the MMP-12 rs652438 and MMP-3 rs35068180 polymorphisms with COPD. Conclusions The findings of this meta-analysis suggest that there is a risk of COPD associated with the MMP-9 rs3918242 and MMP-12 rs2276109 polymorphisms in certain ethnic groups.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) needs to be stratified for its heterogeneity. Oncogenic driver alterations such as EGFR mutation, ALK translocation, ROS1 translocation, and BRAF mutation predict response to treatment for LUAD. Since oncogenic driver alterations may modulate immune response in tumor microenvironment that may influence prognosis in LUAD, the effects of EGFR, ALK, ROS1, and BRAF alterations on tumor microenvironment remain unclear. Immune-related prognostic model associated with oncogenic driver alterations is needed. In this study, we performed the Cox-proportional Hazards Analysis based on the L1-penalized (LASSO) Analysis to establish an immune-related prognostic model (IPM) in stage I-II LUAD patients, which was based on 3 immune-related genes (PDE4B, RIPK2, and IFITM1) significantly enriched in patients without EGFR, ALK, ROS1, and BRAF alterations in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Then, patients were categorized into high-risk and low-risk groups individually according to the IPM defined risk score. The predicting ability of the IPM was validated in GSE31210 and GSE26939 downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. High-risk was significantly associated with lower overall survival (OS) rates in 3 independent stage I-II LUAD cohorts (all P < 0.05). Moreover, the IPM defined risk independently predicted OS for patients in TCGA stage I-II LUAD cohort (P = 0.011). High-risk group had significantly higher proportions of macrophages M1 and activated mast cells but lower proportions of memory B cells, resting CD4 memory T cells and resting mast cells than low-risk group (all P < 0.05). In addition, the high-risk group had a significantly lower expression of CTLA-4, PDCD1, HAVCR2, and TIGIT than the low-risk group (all P < 0.05). In summary, we established a novel IPM that could provide new biomarkers for risk stratification of stage I-II LUAD patients.

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells suffer from performance degradation caused by the oxidation and corrosion of carbon supports. Metal–platinum interactions can enhance the catalytic activity and stability due to compositional and geometric effects. Two-dimensional MXenes have been intensively studied in recent years and are expanding rapidly in both types and applications. Recently, ORR performances of dual-transition metal MXenes with abundant surface Mo vacancy have been demonstrated as efficient electrocatalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction in an alkaline solution. In this study, the electrochemical performances of Mo-based MXenes-supported Pt electrocatalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction are investigated in an acidic solution. Compared with the Pt/C catalysts, Pt/Mo2TiC2Fx exhibits improved durability, with a 28.7 mV negative shift of the half-wave potential after continuous scanning of 5000 cycles, which is superior to Pt/C with an 84.3 mV negative shift. The proton-exchange membrane fuel cell with Pt/Mo2TiC2Fx as the cathode catalyst also shows excellent activity and stability with a 0.7% potential fade after 9 h. According to the morphology evolution during oxygen reduction, the excellence in electrochemistry is due to the coherent interface between Pt and MXene, which provides a high binding force between Pt nanoparticles and the supporting materials. BackgroundCertain cosmetic habits may trigger or aggravate rosacea, while there is little published epidemiologic evidence to support this point.PurposeTo examine if daily skin care habits have an effect on the development of rosacea in Chinese population.MethodsA multi-center retrospective case-control survey of 1,245 rosacea cases and 1,538 skin-healthy controls was conducted in China. Participants completed the questionnaire comprised of demographic characteristics, socioeconomic data and daily skin care habits. Data were collected retrospectively and analyzed using the chi-square test and t-test. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to predict rosacea.ResultsThe multivariate logistic regression analysis highlighted some results: Dry, oily or mixed skin (OR = 6.3-6.9, P< .001), the usage of foaming cleanser (OR = 1.45, 95%CI 1.115-1.886, P = .01), make up more than 6 times a week (OR = 2.839, 95%CI 1.962-4.108, P< .001), using facial mask more than 4 times a week (OR = 2.56-3.069, P< .001), facial treatments at beauty salon more than once a week (OR = 4.946, 95%CI 2.005-12.198, P = .0018) and using beauty salon products (OR = 2.334, 95%CI 1.435-3.976, P = .0018) are positively correlated with the development of rosacea. Using of moisturizing products (OR = 0.602, 95%CI 0.386-0.983, P = .035) and sunscreen cream (OR = 0.303-0.507, P< .001 or P = .0167 for different frequency) presented significantly negative correlations with rosacea. Frequency of cleansing showed a nonlinear association with rosacea: using facial cleansers 1~3 times per week (OR = 0.647, 95%CI 0.429-0.975, P = .038) showed beneficial effects while using facial cleanser excessively (twice or more daily) (OR = 2.131, 95%CI 1.394-3.256, P< .001) positively correlated to rosacea strongly.ConclusionsExcessive use of facial cleanser (twice or more a day) and facial mask (more than 4 times a week), frequent makeup (more than 6 times a week), regular skin care in beauty salon (more than once a week), and using beauty salon products were closely correlated to the development of rosacea in Chinese population.

With the development of micromachining technologies, a wider use of microchannel heat sink (MCHS) is achieved in many fields, especially for cooling electronic chips. A microchannel with a width of 500 μm and a height of 500 μm is investigated through the numerical simulation method. Pin fins are arranged at an inclined angle of 0°, 30°, 45°, and 60°, when arrangement method includes in-lined pattern and staggered pattern. The effects of inclined angle and arrangement method on flow field and temperature field of MCHSs are studied when Reynolds number ranges from 10 to 300. In addition to this, quantitative analyses of hydraulic and thermal performance are also discussed in this work. With the increase of inclined angle, the variation of friction factor and Nusselt number do not follow certain rules. The best thermal performance is achieved in MCHS with in-lined fines at an inclined angle of 30° accompanied with the largest friction factor. Arrangement method of pin fins plays a less significant role compared with inclined angle from a general view, particularly in the Reynolds number range of 100~300.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by chronic recurrent dermatitis with profound itching. Most patients have personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. Several criteria have been proposed for the diagnosis of AD. Although the clinical features of childhood AD have been widely studied, there has been less large-scale study on adult/adolescent AD. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features of adult/adolescent patients with chronic symmetrical eczema/AD and to propose Chinese diagnostic criteria for adult/adolescent AD. Methods: A hospital-based study was performed. Forty-two dermatological centers participated in this study. Adult and adolescent patients (12 years and over) with chronic symmetrical eczema or AD were included in this study. Questionnaires were completed by both patients and investigators. The valid questionnaires were analyzed using EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 17.0 software. Results: A total of 2662 valid questionnaires were collected (1369 male and 1293 female). Of all 2662 patients, 2062 (77.5%) patients had the disease after 12 years old, while only 600 (22.5%) patients had the disease before 12 years old, suggesting late-onset eczema/AD is common. Two thousand one hundred and thirty-nine (80.4%) patients had the disease for more than 6 months. One thousand one hundred and forty-four (43.0%) patients had a personal and/or family history of atopic diseases. One thousand five hundred and forty-eight (58.2%) patients had an elevated total serum IgE and/or eosinophilia and/or positive allergen-specific IgE. Based on these clinical and laboratory features, we proposed Chinese criteria for adult/adolescent AD. Of all 2662 patients, 60.3% were satisfied with our criteria, while only 48.2% satisfied with Hanifin Rajka criteria and 32.7% satisfied with Williams criteria, suggesting a good sensitivity of our criteria in adult/adolescent AD patients. Conclusion: Late-onset of eczema or AD is common. The clinical manifestations of AD are heterogeneous. We have proposed Chinese diagnostic criteria for adolescent and adult AD, which are simple and sensitive for diagnosis of adult/adolescent AD.

Background: During craniotomies using the transpetrosal-presigmoid approach, exposure of the sigmoid sinus remains an essential but hazardous step. In such procedures, accurate localization of the anterosuperior point of the transverse-sigmoid sinus junction (ASTS) is very important for reducing surgical morbidity. This study aimed to create an accurate and practical method for identifying the ASTS. Methods: On the lateral surfaces of 40 adult skulls (19 male skulls and 21 female skulls), a rectangular coordinate system was defined to measure the x and y coordinates of two points: the ASTS and the squamosal-parietomastoid suture junction (SP). With the coordinate system, the distribution characteristics of the ASTS were statistically analyzed and the differences between the ASTS and SP were investigated. Results: For ASTS-x, significant differences were found in different sides (P = 0.020); the ASTS-x in male skulls was significantly higher on the right side (P = 0.017); there was no significant difference between the sides in female skulls. There were no significant differences in gender or interaction of gender and side for ASTS-x, and for ASTS-y, there were no significant differences in side, gender, or interaction of gender and side. For both sides combined, the mean ASTS-x was significantly higher than the mean SP-x (P = 0.003) and the mean ASTS-y was significantly higher than the mean SP-y (P = 0.011). Conclusions: This reference coordinate system may be an accurate and practical method for identifying the ASTS during presigmoid craniotomy. The SP might be difficult to find during presigmoid craniotomy and, therefore, it is not always a reliable landmark for defining the ASTS.

Background There is currently no study that has evaluated the differences in epidemiological and clinical characteristics among rosacea patients according to different facial sites. Methods Clinical and demographic data were obtained from 586 rosacea patients. The patients were divided into four groups based on the main sites involved with the rosacea lesions (full-face, cheeks, nose, or perioral involvement). Clinical signs were measured through self-reported, dermatologist-evaluated grading of symptoms, and physiological indicators of epidermal barrier function. Results There were 471 (80.4%), 49 (8.4%), 52 (8.9%), and 14 (2.4%) cases in the full-face, cheek, nasal and perioral groups, respectively. Compared with the healthy control, the full-face group had lower water content and higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) in the cheeks, and chin; the perioral group had lower water content and higher TEWL in the chin; while the nasal group had the normal water content and TEWL. Compared with the full-face group, the nasal group had more severe phymatous changes, less severe self-reported and dermatologist-evaluated grading of symptoms. All the patients in the perioral or the nasal group had their first rosacea lesions start and remain at the chin or on the nose. In the full-face group, 55.8% of patients had their lesions start with the full face, 40.1% on the cheek, and the rest (4.1%) on the nose. Conclusion Significant differences in clinical features were observed among rosacea patients with lesions at four different sites. The lesion localization of each group was relatively stable and barely transferred to other locations.

Flexible wearable sensors with high sensitivity, broad sensing range, and low detection accuracy have great potential applications in human motion online monitoring, human healthcare detection, and human–machine interface. However, high sensitivity and broad sensing range conflict, as the former requires conspicuous structural changes under microstrain while the latter requires complete morphology under large deformation. Herein, we report few-layer 2D Ti3C2Fx and 1D polypyrrole (PPy) nanowires with a sandwich stack structure transfer on polyacrylic acid (PAA) tape based on layer-by-layer (LBL) assemble technology. The 1D PPy nanowires enhance the strain sensor's interfacial adhesion and electron transmission channel, resulting in high sensitivity and a permissible detection range (0–50%). Under various applied force stimuli, the synergetic effect of Ti3C2Fx nanosheets (4.72 nm thickness) and PPy nanowires (diameter 20–50 nm) endows the stack structure with good electrical–mechanical performance, which is reflected by the sensor's high sensitivity (GF = 2950, ε = 50%; GF = 475, ε = 10%; GF = 22, ε = 0.1%). Such a flexible sensor with a permissible detection range (up to 50%), a low detection limit (0.1%), and reliable repeatability (>1500 cycles) has potential applications for human motion detection, clinical diagnosis, and healthcare monitoring. BACKGROUND: Data on the association between the interleukin-1 (IL-1) gene polymorphisms and Graves' disease (GD) risk were conflicting. A meta-analysis was undertaken to assess this association. METHODS: We searched for case-control studies investigating the association between the IL1B (-511), IL1B (+3954), IL1RN (VNTR) polymorphisms and GD risk. We extracted data using standardized forms and calculated odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: A total of 11 case-control studies were included in this meta-analysis. Available data indicated that the IL1B (-511) polymorphism was associated with GD risk in the overall populations (Caucasians and Asians) in homozygote model (TT vs. CC, OR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.76-0.97, Pz = 0.015), but not in dominant and recessive models (TT+TC vs. CC: OR = 0.95, 95% CI: 0.81-1.12, Pz = 0.553 and TT vs. TC+CC: OR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.60-1.12, Pz = 0.205, respectively). No association between the IL1B (+3954), IL1RN (VNTR) polymorphisms and GD risk was found in the overall populations in any of the genetic models. In subgroup analyses according to ethnicity, the IL1B (-511) polymorphism was associated with GD risk in Asians in recessive and homozygote models (TT vs. TC+CC: OR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.55-0.84, Pz < 0.001 and TT vs. CC: OR = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.70-0.93, Pz = 0.003, respectively), but not in dominant model (TT+TC vs. CC: OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.77-1.11, Pz = 0.389). No association between the IL1B (+3954), IL1RN (VNTR) polymorphisms and GD risk was indicated in Asians, and we found no association between the IL1B (-511), IL1B (+3954), IL1RN (VNTR) polymorphisms and GD risk in Caucasians in any of the genetic models. CONCLUSION: The IL1B (-511) polymorphism, but not the IL1B (+3954) and IL1RN (VNTR) polymorphisms was associated with GD risk in Asians. There was no association between these polymorphisms and GD risk in Caucasians.

Photoreduction of CO2 into CO, CH4 or hydrocarbons is attractive, due to environmental compatibility and economic feasibility. Optimizing the reaction engineering of CO2 reduction is an effective and general strategy that should be given special consideration. In this article, the photocatalytic CO2 reduction performances are originally investigated in a low vacuum in both dilute (10%) and pure CO2. We discover that the CH4 yield increased above one hundred times as the vacuum degree increased from barometric pressure to −80 kPa in dilute CO2. It also reveals long-term stability and good cycling performance in a low vacuum. The enhanced CO2 photoreduction performance in a low vacuum comes from better accumulation of photogenerated electrons, less intense Brownian movement of gas molecules in the environment and hindrance of the active site-blocking of gas molecules in the environment. Improved photocatalytic CO2 reduction in a low vacuum is further verified by Pt–TiO2 catalysts. This research presents a general route for producing clean fuels by photocatalytic CO2 reduction in a more effective way. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a recent focal point of research, soft electronics encompass various factors that synergistically enhance their mechanical properties and ensure stable electrical performance. However, challenges such as immiscible conductive fillers, poor phase interfaces, and unstable conductive networks hinder the overall efficacy of these materials. To address these issues, a hydrogel featuring an oriented interpenetrating network structure (OIPN) is developed. The pyrrole monomer is in situ polymerized within the confined space of PVA macromolecular chains at low temperatures, resulting in a double network structure. Subsequently, the conductive hydrogel with an OIPN configuration is synthesized through directional freezing combined with salting out techniques. After doping phytic acid (IP6), non‐covalent bonds dynamically reinforce the dual network architecture and the pathways for conductivity transfer. Due to its distinctive OIPN structure, the hydrogel containing 50% PPy and 2.3% IP6 exhibits remarkable conductivity (75 µs mm−1), excellent stretchability (400%), optimal multi‐stimuli sensing responses (mechanical and gaseous stimuli), and outstanding device stability (over 2600 cycles at 40% strain). According to application of the full-automatic zinc stripper in industrial production, by analyzing the rapping mechanism of the piston drill model in the rapping equipment and the stress transfer relationship between the hammer and the cathode plate surface, the basic parameters of the hammer are primarily selected and the rapping equipment is redesigned. Through the industrial test, the single factor control variable method is used to analyze the impact of three factors on the rapping effect such as the number of rapping, the pressure of air pressure and the distance between the hammer center and the upper edge of zinc sheet. The mixed-phase Zn0.45Mg0.55O alloy nanowires network was firstly synthesized on SiO2/Si substrate by chemical vapor deposition method. The metal–semiconductor–metal structured Zn0.45Mg0.55O nanowires solar-blind photodetector with a sharp absorption peak of wavelength 245 nm was fabricated, which exhibited an ultra-low dark current (0.2 nA), a high on–off ratio (2.85 × 103), a large peak responsivity (0.48 A/W) at 6 V bias, and a high external quantum efficiency (234.2%). This excellent performance is comparable with other ZnMgO thin film UV photodetectors. Moreover, the detection mechanism of this photodetector is explained by the modifications in energy band diagrams of different nanojunctions among Zn0.45Mg0.55O nanowires and heterojunction interfaces between wurtzite and cubic structured ZnMgO in mixed-phase Zn0.45Mg0.55O nanowire. It is found that nanojunctions and heterojunction interfaces could be responsible for a low dark current and high responsivity of this device based on mixed-phase Zn0.45Mg0.55O nanowire materials.
