The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, represents an important insect pest and subsequently an important agricultural threat due to its polyphagous feeding habits and adaptability to diverse climates. Native from East Asia, its recent establishment in various regions, including North America and Europe, has led to substantial yield losses and economic impacts, which highlight the need for comprehensive research efforts, based on data occurrence by combining those from expert entomologists and citizen scientists. We reported here 14 new occurrences of this insect pest in the three regions of Belgium. Then, these data were merged with data occurrences from other studies and GBIF datasets of Belgium. The combined dataset showed a peak of presence of Halyomorpha halys in October and a dominance of field observations from citizen scientists especially in the nothern part of Belgium, Flanders. Crowd-sourced data have provided valuable insights into the presence and distribution of Halyomorpha halys in Belgium. Given the importance of the generated dataset, it could be asserted that this pest is uniformly distributed across the entire country, which necessitates additional research to evaluate its impact on various crops. Life tables are one of the most common tools to describe the biology of insect species and their response to environmental conditions. Although the benefits of life tables are beyond question, we raise some doubts about the completeness of the information reported in life tables. To substantiate these doubts, we consider a case study (Corcyra cephalonica) for which the raw dataset is available. The data suggest that the Gaussian approximation of the development times which is implied by the average and standard error usually reported in life tables does not describe reliably the actual distribution of the data which can be misleading and hide interesting biological aspects. Furthermore, it can be risky when life table data are used to build models to predict the demographic changes of the population. The present study highlights this aspect by comparing the impulse response generated by the raw data and by its Gaussian approximation based on the mean and the standard error. The conclusions of this paper highlight: i) the importance of adding more information to life tables and, ii) the role of raw data to ensure the completeness of this kind of studies. The paper considers the application of feedback control to orbital transfer maneuvers subject to constraints on the spacecraft thrust and on avoiding the collision with the primary body. Incremental reference governor (IRG) strategies are developed to complement the nominal Lyapunov controller, derived based on Gauss variational equations, and enforce the constraints. Simulation results are reported that demonstrate the successful constrained orbital transfer maneuvers with the proposed approach. A Lyapunov function based IRG and a prediction‐based IRG are compared. While both implementation successfully enforce the constraints, a prediction‐based IRG is shown to result in faster maneuvers. The paper reports on flight tests at hovering of the COLIBRI robot. After a short review of the control model and the stabilization strategy, two different approaches are considered for the attitude reconstruction from the MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU): the complementary filter and the full-state dynamic observer, implemented in a specially designed flight control board. It is shown that both strategies provide adequate stabilization at hovering in spite of the strong vibration excitation resulting from the flapping of the wings. Moreover, it is shown that the residual wandering due to noise, robot imperfection, etc., can be significantly reduced by a cascade control loop based on the axial and lateral velocities reconstructed by the full-state observer. Experiments show that this approach based on onboard measurements allows for a station keeping as good as that obtained with velocities reconstructed from an external tracking system. In this technical note we study the computation of the Maximal Output Admissible Set for linear systems subject to polynomial constraints. The computation of an inner approximation of the Maximal Output Admissible Sets requires the determination of constraint redundancy. We use a procedure to determine polynomial constraint redundancy based on a consequence of Putinar's Positivstellensatz. Further, we present a modification of the algorithm to compute the Maximal Output Admissible Set with improved performance. Lastly, demonstrate the potential for practical applications in two case studies of spacecraft rendezvous and control of an electromagnetic actuator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the lack of systematic empirical analyses and comparisons of ideas and methods, a clearly established state of the art is still missing in the optimization-based design of robot swarms. In this article, we propose an experimental protocol for the comparison of fully automatic design methods. This protocol is characterized by two notable elements: 1) a way to define benchmarks for the evaluation and comparison of design methods and 2) a sampling strategy that minimizes the variance when estimating their expected performance. To define generally applicable benchmarks, we introduce the notion of mission generator: a tool to generate missions that mimic those a design method will eventually have to solve. To minimize the variance of the performance estimation, we show that, under some common assumptions, one should adopt the sampling strategy that maximizes the number of missions considered—a formal proof is provided as the supplementary material. We illustrate the experimental protocol by comparing the performance of two offline fully automatic design methods that were presented in previous publications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
