Understanding the psychological factors that influence people's behavior in using sustainable modes of transportation, e.g., public transport, is crucial for promoting environmentally friendly behavior and mitigating climate change. This study examines the impact of the big-two personality traits (stability and plasticity) on households' auto transport consumption (ATC) and public transport consumption (PTC), and their mediating role in the relationship between socioeconomic factors (e.g., age, income, education, marital status) and transport consumptions (i.e., ATC and PTC). A triple-hurdle model, including two binary logit models and one structural equation model, is developed using a comprehensive national household survey in Australia. Findings reveal that the stability trait is positively related to ATC (b = 0.253, p < 0.10) and negatively to PTC (b = −0.372, p < 0.001), while the plasticity trait shows a positive association with PTC (b = 0.351, p < 0.001) and is negatively related to ATC (b = −0.296, p < 0.001). The developed analytical framework supports policymakers to identify individuals with stability and plasticity traits, using socioeconomic factors, and to design more-targeted interventions to incentivize specific individuals to use public transport, thus contributing to global efforts toward a sustainable future. Dial a ride problem (DARP) is a complex version of the pick-up and delivery problem with many practical applications in the field of transportation. This study proposes an enhanced deterministic annealing algorithm for the solution of large-scale multi-vehicle DARPs. The proposed method always explores the feasible search space; therefore, a feasible solution is guaranteed at any point of termination. This method utilises advanced local search operators to accelerate the search for optimal solutions and it relies on a linearly decreasing deterministic annealing schedule to limit poor jumps during the course of search. This study puts forward a systematic series of experiments to compare the performance of solution methods from various angles. The proposed method is compared with the most efficient methods reported in the literature i.e., the Adaptive Large Neighbourhood Search (ALNS), Evolutionary Local Search (ELS), and Deterministic Annealing (DA) using standard benchmarks. The results suggest that the proposed algorithm is on average faster than the state-of-the-art algorithms in reaching competitive objective values across the range of benchmarks. This study introduces a survey instrument to collect retrospective life-course events, focusing on residential relocation, and it utilizes the survey to evaluate determinants of residential mobility. The survey consists of seven modules collecting information about household structure and household demographics, latest residential relocation, current and previous home, employment, education, vehicle ownership, and travel behavior. The time window of the life-course calendar in the survey is customized according to the latest residential relocation as an anchor point to assist with memory recollection and balance the required input from participants. The survey is used to collect data from a sample of 514 respondents in Sydney, Australia, and another sample of 404 respondents in Chicago, Illinois, in the US. The Cox proportional hazard model is used to analyze residential mobility. The results show primary school commencement is a salient determinant of residential relocation, but its impact is significantly higher in Chicago compared to Sydney. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is reported that the biggest predictor of risk of entering housing stress is age, with 18 to 24 year olds being 214 percent more likely to enter housing stress then those aged more then 65 years. It is further reported that employment status is the next largest predictor, with unemployed people being 144 percent more likely to enter housing stress than fully employed people.
