Abstract The concept of “green‐ammonia‐zero‐carbon emission” is an emerging research topic in the global community and many countries driving toward decarbonizing a diversity of applications dependent on fossil fuels. In light of this, electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (ENRR) received great attention at ambient conditions. The low efficiency (%) and ammonia (NH3) production rates are two major challenges in making a sustainable future. Besides, hydrogen evolution reaction is another crucial factor for realizing this NH3 synthesis to meet the large‐scale commercial demand. Herein, the (i) importance of NH3 as an energy carrier for the next future, (ii) discussion with ENRR theory and the fundamental mechanism, (iii) device configuration and types of electrolytic systems for NH3 synthesis including key metrics, (iv) then moving into rising electrocatalysts for ENRR such as single‐atom catalysts (SACs), MXenes, and metal–organic frameworks that were scientifically summarized, and (v) finally, the current technical contests and future perceptions are discussed. Hence, this review aims to give insightful direction and a fresh motivation toward ENRR and the development of advanced electrocatalysts in terms of cost, efficiency, and technologically large scale for the synthesis of green NH3.

Abstract Sustainable cultivation and safe agricultural production are needed to ensure the safety of all living organisms and ecosystems. Most agricultural foods currently contain unacceptable levels of pesticide residues. In an attempt to ensure pest control and high crop yields, farmers spray a large number of pesticides in quantities that exceed the safety limits for agricultural crops. Pesticide residues are highly toxic to humans, causing severe and even deadly diseases. Traditional analytical strategies for laboratory pesticide detection are often limited because they are time‐consuming and require trained personnel, which makes them very costly. Hence, accurate, rapid, and on‐site analysis of pesticides is drawing increasing attention for food safety reasons. Therefore, on‐site or point‐of‐care (POC) detection of pesticide residues has become an approach of paramount importance. Recently, various portable detection technologies, such as colorimetric, fluorescence, electrochemical, surface plasmon resonance, chemiluminescence, phosphorescence, microfluidic, and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering techniques, have been designed for on‐site monitoring of pesticide residues in vegetables and fruits. These devices have demonstrated great power of detection in preclinical agricultural settings. This review highlights the emerging insights and novel advances in portable devices, POC technologies, and on‐site sensing approaches for the detection of pesticide residues in agricultural foods. However, greater rigor in the design of portable pesticide‐detection devices is essential. The increasing demand for rapid detection of hazardous pesticide components has prompted a timely opportunity to summarize recent developments and progress in portable devices and on‐site sensing strategies to evaluate food safety.

With the increasing demand for green and renewable energy, piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) are in the infant stage for the next generation of wearable energy supplies. In this study, we synthesize an electrospun poly (vinylidene fluoride) zinc oxide (PVDF@ZnO) PENG device with different particle sizes of ZnO by solution electrospinning and study the effect of incorporation of ZnO and its particle size on the piezoelectric properties of the PVDF PENG device. We evaluate the piezoelectric properties of the PENG device under different mechanical conditions of tension, compression, and bending. The incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles remarkably enhances the piezoelectric response of PVDF under all the study conditions. In particular, the device with large-particle ZnO (PVDF@L-ZnO) PENG generates an electrical output current, voltage, and power density of 1308 nA, 5.6 V, and 2160 μW/m2, respectively, at a loading resistance of 10 MΩ under compression; 42 mV, 82 nA, and 28 μW/m2, respectively, at a loading resistance of 20 MΩ under tension; 2.8 V, 323 nA, and 320 μW/m2, respectively, at a loading resistance of 20 MΩ under bending, and we choose the compression result for further practical applications. In addition, we use the PENG device to harvest waste vibration mechanical energy from an air compressor machine with a frequency of 60 Hz. It harvests waste mechanical energy that turns on a liquid crystal display (LCD). The PVDF@L-ZnO PENG device also shows stable cyclic discharging and charging properties, which are crucial for practical applications. Therefore, the fabricated PENG device is a favorable candidate for wasted mechanical energy and converting it to electrical energy. We expect that it can play an important role in the problems related to renewable and green energy utilization.
