The CLASS (classroom assessment scoring system) has become integrally linked with quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS) throughout the United States and other international locations. This relationship reinforces the neoliberal consumer-based perspectives of quality and devalues localized perspectives. This article challenges the notion of assessing quality in this manner and provides a genealogical analysis of the literature supporting the CLASS. The analysis focuses on three specific aspects of the CLASS research literature: the type of research used, how school success is defined, and the use of attachment theory in teacher-child relationships. The article also proposes further areas of study and analysis regarding the cultural appropriateness and international use of the assessment as well as questioning the line between research and marketing.

Molecular studies of cloned and sequenced ovine cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) cDNA of sheep reveals a high level of conservation at the DNA coding. Between human and sheep CFTR, a 90% conservation is observed at the nucleic acid level, and a 95% similarity is observed at the polypeptide level. Gene expression patterns of ovine CFTR are similar to that in humans, while the developmental expression of sheep CFTR is comparable with that of humans. Hence, a similarity exists in the lung pathology of human and sheep CFTR.

Typing large paternal half-sib families reveals that sheep genomes consist of nineteen linkage groups with a total of 52 markers. The linkage groups have different sizes from 2 markers to 6 markers, some of them having no recombination groups. The sheep chromosomes have 13 such groups.

Twenty seven recently cloned genes encoding the rrn operon, the 4.5S and 6S RNAs, elements of protein secretion, the outer membrane proteins F and I, and the regulatory as well as structural genes for exotoxin A, alkaline phosphatase, alginate and tryptophan synthesis were mapped on the Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO chromosome. Positions were based on SpeI and DpnI macrorestriction sites with the zero point of the map relocated to the chromosomal origin of replication.

This paper summarises a ten-year conversation within London Journal of Primary Care about the nature of community-oriented integrated care (COIC) and how to develop and evaluate it. COIC means integration of efforts for combined disease-treatment and health-enhancement at local, community level. COIC is similar to the World Health Organisation concept of a Community-Based Coordinating Hub - both require a local geographic area where different organisations align their activities for whole system integration and develop local communities for health. COIC is a necessary part of an integrated system for health and care because it enables multiple insights into 'wicked problems', and multiple services to integrate their activities for people with complex conditions, at the same time helping everyone to collaborate for the health of the local population. An approach to sequencing proteins by the solid-phase method combined with isolation of proteins and polypeptides by gel electrophoresis is described. Mixtures of proteins or polypeptides resulting from digests arc fractionated in the presence of dodecylsulphate in polyacrylamide gels. They are detected with Coomassic blue, eluted, selectively reacted with porous glass derivatives and sequenced in their amino-terminal regions with the aid of a new microsequencer. Alternatively they can be analysed or digested with enzymes and fingerprinted. It is a relatively rapid method of purifying proteins for sequence analysis which we have used to provide partial protein sequence data to complement DNA sequences. Nine genes, four from the sine operon of Escherichia cpli encoding the α, β, γ and ϵ subunits of ATP synthase and live for capsid proteins of bacteriophage lambda. have been identified by this method. Highly luminescent nanocomposites were prepared by incorporating CdSe/CdS core/shell nanorods into different polymer matrices. The resulting nanocomposites show high transparency of up to 93%. A photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 70% was obtained, with an optimum combination of nanorod (0.05 wt %) and at a UV-initiator concentration of 0.1 wt % for poly(lauryl methacrylate). Nanorods tend to agglomerate in cellulose triacetate.
