This research explores the legitimation processes underpinning the implementation of specific urban policies in cities grappling with socio-economic challenges, such as in a post-industrial context. Focusing on Europe, where public authorities are seeking to enhance the socio-economic dynamics of post-industrial cities through cultural initiatives like branch museums, our research is based on a historical study of media relating to the establishment in 2012 of the Louvre-Lens museum in northern France. Within this framework, we reveal how institutional actors have performed strategies of legitimation to develop the Louvre-Lens. Our findings underscore the confluence of two primary strategies – economic and cultural –in an effort to navigate the complexities and tensions inherent in establishing a cultural offer in a disadvantaged post-industrial region. We conclude with a discussion about the broader implications of these strategies within the realm of macromarketing. The military heritage built in the regions of Peru is conspicuously invisible. The present investigation contributes to its patrimonial valuation. It has a qualitative approach and an exploratory level. For the recording, photogrammetric means of collecting metric information were used (Agisoft Metashape Professional software, professional/semi-professional camera equipment, a DJI Mavic Pro drone, and desktop computers). In the historical study, the technique used was to review secondary sources, maps and photographs of the total history of the property, and then explore documents from the 19th century in the archive. One notable result is that, in relation to the overarching goal of deepening the precise architectural record of “Fort Barbones,” the process undertaken— even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic—has been both possible and valuable. It has transformed problems into opportunities for cooperative, technological, and innovative work.

Objective: The Objective of this study is to examine the history of student admission in Iran. Methods: This research is a qualitative research that used the historical research method. The method of data collection was library studies in such a way that the legal documents related to student admission (with emphasis on the documents of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, the Islamic Parliament Research Center, the National Organization of Educational testing and historical resources) were studied. Results: This research generally shows four time periods for student admission in Iran: 1- assessment and admission period by faculties and universities (1313 to 1348); 2- assessment period by the national organization of educational testing and admission by universities (1348 to 1359); 3- assessment and admission period by the national organization of educational testing (1361 to 1386); 4- assessment period by the national organization of educational testing and the Ministry of Education and admission by the national organization of educational testing (1386 to now). Also, during these periods, many quotas were allocated to some volunteers, which can be categorized into five types of geographical quotas, revolutionary and self-sacrificing quotas, organizational (union) quotas, individual (award) quotas, and gender quotas. Conclusion: In the end, after the historical study of student admission in Iran, it was concluded that although at the beginning, most of the transformations were related to how to select students, gradually, as the actors of student selection increased, especially in the post-revolution period, there were more disputes about who. This paper aims to answer a series of questions resulting from the presence of incomplete and superficial documentation gathered over time in the context of rehabilitation and restoration of historic houses in Turda, some of which are classified as monuments. Therefore, the following questions are considered: What is the value of a historical study in the context of an intervention? What is the structure of a historical study of a building? Who is in a position to carry out such a study and to impose permissions and restrictions? How can the research results be used? Does the history of one building illustrate wider policies of the Austro-Hungarian authorities to urbanise and modernise smaller towns in the realm? Although, this study is dedicated to a single building, located in the historical centre of the town, its detailed study and the reconstruction of its historical and architectural path can provide clues concerning the implementation of urban policies of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in provincial context. The building was classified as a historical monument, but its aspect today reflects its complicated history and the many unfortunate and misguided interventions it has undergone. It has also been neglected by existing research, and thus, its position within the „Art 1900” [Art Nouveau] has not been explored. Consequently, the present research attempts to make the most of the data recorded sporadically in various sources covering the history of Turda. On the other hand, the lack of conservation strategies for this type of heritage, reflected in a coherent legislative framework, has led until recently to a lax and confusing approach at the local administration level as well, as evidenced by the series of renovations and rehabilitation inappropriate to the original style, carried out by the local authority, owners or tenants over time. Good documentation forwarded to the authorities and current owners can, therefore, help these buildings and act as a method of educating the public, providing guidance concerning the value, functionality, and capacity of heritage to create more value for local communities. This study analyzes the visualization of census data in the U.S. Statistical Atlases from 1874 to 1925. I examine how visual strategies were used to construct an American identity by contrasting the "native" population with the "other"—new immigrants and African Americans, which were visualized as undesirable counterparts. By defining the "other," the Atlases created a pan ethnic identity of the "native white" population, established a racial hierarchy, and hardened the division between old and new immigrants. The paper is dedicated to the study of rare undeciphered documents: colorful architectural perspectives of a giant stadium of the 1930s with a caption in French, found by the author of this text in one of the Ukrainian archives. The authorship of the graphic images and the project itself, the name of the stadium, its localization on the master plan of the city of those years were established in the process of this research. The results of the study allow us to trace the fate of the project of a giant sports complex from its concept and design stages to the beginning of its erection; to reveal the reasons for the interruption of its construction and oblivion for many decades, as well as to restore the biographies of the architects involved in the found images. Features of the difficult historical period in the architecture of Ukraine: the violent transition from modernism to "socialist realism" in the 1930s are seen through the "lens" of the fate of this unique avant-garde unrealized project. The paper is dedicated to the study and visual reconstruction of the Old Arcade - the first commercial structure of its kind for the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, which was irrevocably lost during WWII. Its peculiar architecture reflected specifics of the place and way of citizens' life. Its seven decades-long popularity and success as a commercial complex intrigue to this day. The methods of study consist of an analysis of texts (journal articles and books), visual documents (photographs and maps) depicting the central part of the city in 1870-1940s, as well as an on-site examination of other Kharkiv's buildings from the end of 19th century. They also include a comparison with studies on the development of towns of adjacent regions, as conducted by other researchers. This allows authors of the paper to propose the first hypothetical spatial model of the Old Arcade, describing its supposed construction and stylistic solutions, as well as highlighting the stages of its transformation and the causes for its destruction during the war. The lessons of its spatial and visual integration with urban environment can be of use to designers and researchers of modern shopping complexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

West German society faced the emergence of a new calibre of right-wing terrorism in the 1970s. Right-wing terrorist groups evolved that showed themselves willing and able to commit violent attacks such as bombings and murder. This article explores the genesis and development of right-wing terrorism in West Germany between 1970 and 1980 while examining 22 identifiable groups and lone actors and taking into consideration the radicalization within the far right as well as the prevailing social conditions. West German right-wing terrorism until 1990 has remained a blind spot in historiography to this day. This article contributes to historical terrorism studies as well as to studies into the far right while applying historical-qualitative methods and interpreting primary sources. Using an approach informed by social history, this paper sheds new light on the individual participants, groups, and networks of right-wing terrorism as well as on its topics and targets. While taking into account a more dynamic definition of right-wing terrorism, this paper disengages from definitions that identify terrorism solely as a threat to the state itself. The traditional conception of semi-presidentialism stipulates that powers are shared by a popularly elected president and a prime minister, who is responsible to parliament. In recent years, an increasingly popular strategy has become to disregard the power dimension and define semi-presidentialism only with regard to whether the president is popularly elected or not. Based on a principal-agent framework the present study sets out to test the relationship between the mode of election and the powers of the president in democratic republics where the government is dependent on the legislature for survival. Findings indicate that although powerful presidents most often are popularly elected there are also instances where a non-popularly elected president shares executive powers with the prime minister. Ethnopharmacological relevance The different species of the genus Datura have been used traditionally by some pre-Columbian civilizations, as well as in medieval rituals linked to magic and witchcraft in both Mexico and Europe. It is also noteworthy the use of different alkaloids obtained from the plants for medicinal purposes in the treatment of various groups of diseases, especially of the respiratory and muscularskeletal systems. Aim of the study A review of the ethnobotanical uses of the genus Datura in Mexico and Spain has been conducted. We focus on the medicinal and ritualistic uses included in modern ethnobotanical studies, emphasizing the historical knowledge from post-colonial American Codices and medieval European texts. Datura's current social emergency as a drug of recreation and leisure, as well as its link to crimes of sexual abuse is also considered. The work is completed with some notes about the distribution and ecology of the different species and a phytochemical and pharmacological review of Datura alkaloids, necessary to understand their arrival in Europe and the ethnobotanical uses made since then Materials and methods A literature review and compilation of information on traditional medicinal uses of the genus has been carried out from the main electronic databases. Traditional volumes (codices) have also been consulted in libraries of different institutions. Consultations have been made with the National Toxicological Services of Spain and Mexico for toxicological data. Results A total of 118 traditional uses were collected in both territories, 111 medicinal ones to be applied in 76 conditions or symptoms included in 13 pathological groups. Although there are particular medicinal uses in the two countries, we found up to 15 similar uses, of which 80% were previously mentioned in post-Colonial American codices. Applications in the treatment of asthma and rheumatism are also highlighted. Apart from medicinal uses, it is worth noting their cultural and social uses, in the case of Mexico relating to diseases such as being scared, astonishment or falling in love, and in the case of Spain, as a recreational drug and lately, for criminal purposes. Conclusions This review highlights the variety of uses traditionally given to the different species in both territories. The fact that most of the coincident or similar uses in both countries also appear in the classical codices can be found an example of the flow, not only of the plants from America to Europe, but also of their associated information. It is also relevant that particular uses have derived in both countries, reflecting the difference in the cultural factors and traditions linked to rituals and cultural practices. Finally, the significant growth of Datura consumption in recent years as a drug of leisure and recreation, as well as in crimes of sexual submission, should be considered as research of maximum relevance in the field of forensic botany and toxicology. The present work performs a historical study of the processes of academic categories at the Universidad de Ciencias Pedagógicas José Martí de Camagüey, during the period 1976-2014. The work examines its evolution in accordance with the academic and scientific development of this institution since its creation, which made possible to identify five stages of transition, from its beginning to the integration of the universities in 2014, the main regularities and difficulties and the aspects that require more attention in the conditions of the new university. This research is an experience that may contribute to a process of improvement of the Cuban university model within the framework of its integration, as well as the training of its faculty and the set of actions that shall guarantee its transit through the established system of categories. The proposition that outsiders often are crucial carriers of novelty into an established institutional field has received wide empirical support. But an equally compelling proposition points to the following puzzle: the very same conditions that enhance outsiders' ability to make novel contributions also hinder their ability to carry them out. We seek to address this puzzle by examining the contextual circumstances that affect the legitimation of novelty originating from a noncertified outsider that challenged the status quo in an established institutional field. Our research case material is John Harrison's introduction of a new mechanical method for measuring longitude at sea-the marine chronometer-which challenged the dominant astronomical approach. We find that whether an outsider's new offer gains or is denied legitimacy is influenced by (1) the outsider's agency to further a new offer, (2) the existence of multiple audiences with different dispositions toward this offer, and (3) the occurrence of an exogenous jolt that helps create a more receptive social space. We organize these insights into a multilevel conceptual framework that builds on previous work but attributes a more decisive role to the interplay between endogenous and exogenous variables in shaping a field's shifting receptiveness to novelty. The framework exposes the interdependencies between the micro-, meso-, and macro-level processes that jointly affect an outsider's efforts to introduce novelty into an existing field. This study examined the effect of livelihood strategy on poverty dynamics in upstream and downstream region of Cimanuk Watershed, West Java. Study used cross-sectional and historical design. Study was conducted in Garut Disctict as upstream region and Indramayu District as downstream region. This research involved 138 families who have preschool and school child. The families were chosen by purposive sampling and the data was obtained by interview using questionnaire. Multinomial logistic regression was used to find factors influencing poverty dynamics status. The result showed that poverty in upstream region was dominated by moving into poverty dynamic, whereas poverty in downstream region was dominated by always poor dynamic. Families in downstream region have higher possibility to moving out of poverty than families in upstream region. Multinomial regression analysis showed that livelihood strategy had influence on poverty dynamics. Human capital investment in formal education and strengthening local-based livelihood patterns should be encouraged to reduce poverty.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze changes in the descriptions and requirements of professional communicators in Swedish job advertisements between 1960 and 2010. Design/methodology/approach – Through a quantitative content analysis, this study approaches organizational requirement information in order to better understand changes in the description of the ideal candidate and professionalization. Findings – The results show that job titles have gradually become more specified and strategically orientated. Tactical qualifications dominated the first decades but operational and strategic skills were increasingly required in the material over the last two decades. Research limitations/implications – Even if job advertisements could expose the historical changes in expectations and demands on communicational professional practitioners, further studies could entail complementary material such as interviews with senior communications managers and headhunters. Practical implications – In order to be legitimized as a field of profession, scholars, teachers and practitioners need to create ideals and ideologies that can justify and defend business and education. This paper stimulates practitioners to reflect critically on such issues. Originality/value – The key contribution of this paper is to explicate how the image of communication practice and the demands on communication practitioners have changed during the last 50 years. Dua buah karya yang dipublikasikan ilmuan Inggris dan Amerika pada tahun 1971, Hagarism oleh Patricia Crone dan Michael Cook, dan Quranic studies: sources and methods of scriptural interpretation oleh John Wansbrough merevolusi studi baik sastra dan sejarah al-Qur’an maupun masa awal Islam. Tidak satupun dari kedua karya ini mendapatkan pengakuan signifikan dari kalangan ilmuan Islam dan menuai protes keras baik dari ilmuan Barat maupun Muslim. Tanpa memfokuskan pada kedua karya tersebut, artikel ini mengeksplorasi keilmuan Barat terkini dalam kebangkitan dan upaya mereka menakar hubungan antara pendekatan sejarah dengan sastra terhadap al-Qur’an secara tegas menekankan kedua pendekatan ini bukan menjadi ancaman bagi Islam. Pada akhirnya ada potensi signifikan untuk menciptakan pembicaraan kreatif antara Muslim dan non-Muslim tentang karakter dan pesan al-Qur’an yang menyertai munculnya karya-karya oleh berbagai ilmuan yang menulis dalam bahasa- bahasa Barat dalam kurun waktu 30 tahun terakhir.

As geographic literacy training is an essential content for Chinese citizens' literacy education, national geographical education is one of the indispensable key aspects of that training. Because of China's vast land area and the significance of the regional differences, it is difficult for students to receive a solid education regarding China's geography. In 1902, the government established the geography curriculum and began to incorporate the concept of geographical regionalization to facilitate the teaching of China's geography by publishing the first syllabi, which was modified later and put into use in 1904. Since 1904, numerous geography textbooks have attempted to find an appropriate way to present China's geographical regionalization, as it is important for secondary students to have a clear understanding and appreciation for the different regional characteristics. Accordingly, the geographical regionalization content is divided into four main phases: 1902 to 1927; 1928 to 1948; 1949 to 1986; and 1986 to the present. During these phases, the content related to China's geographical regionalization in secondary middle school geography textbooks has been gradually simplified and has adopted a more scientific foundation, thus leading to the present time where there are now four geographical regional areas. From this historical study, we find that while China's geographical regionalization has gradually matured, there are still some problems. For example, dividing the study into four regions to describe the panorama of China is too simplified, and the learning therefore becomes too scattered and haphazard, particularly given the new curriculum reform. Britain's colonial cities benefitted greatly from town planning practices that originated in the mother country. Hong Kong, one of many British colonial cities, grew from a small fishing village to an international metropolis. Urban development in the colony from 1841 to 1941 was continuous and systematic but ended abruptly with the Japanese invasion in World War II. The period was marked by rapid urban growth which brought with it many problems for the colonial management. This paper reviews the urban history of Hong Kong over the 100-year period from 1841 and explores the development motives of the colonial administration. The colonial government appointed British professionals for specialized roles and their services were apparent in significant milestones in the city's town planning and construction. The paper highlights the contributions of a few significant personnel: A.T. Gordon, C.G. Cleverly, Osbert Chadwick, David J. Owen and Wilfred H. Owen. By describing the works of these British colonial professionals, the authors hope to illustrate their impact on the development of Hong Kong, linking history to the present and filling gaps in the study of Hong Kong's early town planning. Both archive research and on-site study were employed in the preparation of this paper which is expected to complement other studies of colonial city planning in Asia and Africa. This article is a study on the historical development of the Teacher's Training College (TTC) library in two phases. From 1950 to 1973 it was known as the TTC library and from 1973 to 1991 it became the Institute of Education (IE) library after the TTC was converted into the IE. It refers widely to the annual reports of the TTC and IE and other official education reports to have an in depth understanding of the historical development of the library. Throughout the two phases of development study identifies the lack of recruitment and deployment of professional library staff to manage a specialized education library. By retrieving specific data from official library surveys the study shows how the collection of the library evolved from print to include non-print items during the years 1964, 1969, 1975, 1983 and 1989 and the gradual progress being made to improve its collection. The second phase of the library shows how the Library set up its organization structure and adopted the use of information technology and the implementation of an integrated library management system. This article examines the deinstitutionalization of a Field Coniguring Event (FCE) and the consequences of this deinstitutionalization for an organizational field. To this end, we carried out a historiographical study of the deinstitutionalization of the Paris Salon. This pivotal FCE was the central event of the Beaux-Arts field in France for over two centuries before its progressive decline at the end of the 19th Century. From a theoretical point of view, our results show that the deinstitutionalization process of FCEs is the result of the interaction and dynamics of several factors, notably, the internal contradictions of the FCE, the emergence of alternatives resulting from institutional developments, and the constitution of a critical mass, followed by the development of institutional pressures that encourage the abandonment of the FCE. This study also enables us to analyze the impact of an FCE's decline on the structure, distribution and nature of power, and especially on temporality within a field. Finally, it contributes to the study of the deinstitutionalization process in general. From a managerial point of view, this study suggests that promoters must organize themselves to integrate innovation, in order to avoid the decline of the FCE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The historical study of the different procedural systems is a pending task in our legal field. Additionally, it is difficult to find academic texts that develop a global revision and a historical reconstruction of the essential characteristics of the main procedural criminal systems in our time, more precisely, of systems that would allow us to comprehend our existing system and its evolution. This paper's intention is to locate such characteristics and examine said evolution in the context of the new Accusatory System and its Criminal Procedure. In order to do so this study will verify which characteristics and institutions still remain, and which have been transformed or removed from the Colombian criminal procedural system. Abstract: There has been an abundance of literature devoted to the involvement of noradrenaline in basic rapid eye movement (REM) sleep processes since the subject was first investigated in 1964. Nowadays, the great majority of studies highlight the need for silence in the locus coeruleus noradrenergic neurons as a condition for the occurrence and maintenance of REM sleep. However, throughout the successive years of work on this topic, few researchers have consistently claimed that some amount of noradrenaline is essential for the appearance of this sleep stage. In the first part of this review, each of the papers published in this field is analyzed. Then, in the discussion, arguments supporting the requirement for a given level of noradrenaline for REM sleep occurrence are presented. This second part also examines, based on waking noradrenergic influences on higher integrated brain processes, the major consequences of noradrenergic neuron silence during REM sleep for mental functioning. Abstract: For a strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis mono-resistant to pyrazinamide (PZA), we report the geographic distribution within Quebec of the 77 cases diagnosed during 1990–2000. Known as the Quebec mutation (or the pncA deletion), the strain is rare in urban areas and showed an unexpected concentration in Mauricie, one of the 16 health districts of the province, with a cluster of 10 cases situated in a rural area of 35-km radius. The cases occurred among people >50 (98%), of French Canadian origins (90%), and are understood to have arisen by reactivation. The rarity in Montreal and smaller cities is explained by the youthfulness of massive postwar migrations. To reach back into the history of settlement, we examined genealogies: 92,429 ancestral marriages for 32 of the 77 PZA-resistant isolates and 226,535 for a set of 85 controls with isolates of more diverse mycobacterial strains. Genealogical analysis showed no salient common ancestor for the cases, and kinship among them was no greater than observed in control samples from the same regions. But it identified an unsuspected geographical region as the site of ancestral concentrations prior to 1840, for both resistant strains and controls. The following scenario is proposed for the resistant strain: endemic in a specific geographical region by 1800, it dispersed with families moving into regions opened to settlement in the 1840s and 1850s, among them Mauricie, where dispersion was intensified by seasonal mobility of labour in logging, milling and marketing timber. In high-incidence areas, it is difficult to distinguish cases of reactivation from recent infections, but the low-incidence context allows us to observe a 200-year trajectory of a distinctive drug-resistant strain of M. tuberculosis. The attribute focus in engineering education now adopted by the engineering education accrediting bodies of the US, UK and Australia is based on meeting the assumed needs of professional practice. It is associated with an increasing expectation by employers of work-ready graduates rather than relying on subsequent work-based learning and experience to develop many of the essential professional practice attributes. Yet the scope of the mechanical engineering profession is broad and views of practitioners contributing to debate on attribute requirements are largely influenced by their own often unique professional formation. In addition, the formative development of the profession in Australia has been significantly influenced by 19th and 20th century UK and US practices, although historically the industrial profile of Australia has been strikingly different. An analysis of current industry distribution of Australian, UK and US mechanical engineers presented in this paper shows continuing, although less marked, differences. To develop a clearer perception of the profession in Australia, its educational formation, and operational environment, this paper provides a concise study of the formative development of the profession, and presents a breakdown of the industry sectors in which they are currently employed. The effects of momentous global changes in engineering employment and formation over recent decades are also discussed. Recent changes in engineering employment have included major structural changes to organisations, accelerating technical and educational developments and mounting societal expectations making it imperative that attributes be attuned to the new engineering paradigm as increasing demands are placed on our graduates. This paper provides an essential foundation for ongoing debate and analysis of attribute needs related to this broadly based engineering discipline. Abstract: Design works on rail profiles and conformity with wheel profile in Japan are reviewed. The pre-history before the well-known designing Japanese rails in 1960s is revealed. In the design of rails in 1960s the features of numerous rail sections in the world were surveyed and discussed about their tendencies. Determining the profile of rail, the aims for new rail were set clearly. The adoption of new rail profile in Japan was effective on existing lines decreasing the failures of rail of about 10,000 at the ends of 1950s to less than 100 now. Renal disease is the most important long-term complication of hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). A comparative study of renal function was carried out in two groups of patients. Group 1 included 19 children followed for a median of 11 years, 1960-1980, with a low-sodium diet, antihypertensive drugs, and a restricted protein intake in the end stage of renal disease. Group 2 included 26 children treated for a median of 9 years, 1988-2002, on a low-sodium diet, early restriction of protein intake according to recommendations, and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi). Long-term renal function was assessed by the inverse of the plasma creatinine concentration (1/[Cr]) over time. Linear regression lines were fitted to individual values of 1/[Cr] for each child. Regression coefficients of children in group 1 were all negative, ranging from -0.031 to -0.00043; 7 were significantly different from zero, indicating a linear fall in renal function over time. In contrast, children from group 2 had 11 negative slopes (only 1 significant) and 15 positive slopes, ranging from 0.17893 to -0.3899. Fisher’s exact test showed that group 1 had significantly more children with negative slopes than group 2. This comparatively better long-term outcome of renal function in children under contemporary treatment was probably associated with early restriction of protein and use of ACEi. Emergent from the Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Movements in painting and poetry, Kenneth Burke's epistemology for interpretive practice contributed to the aesthetics of oral interpretation of literature. In this historical study, the author summarizes Burke's dialogic theories and exemplifies how they describe not only Edward Burne-Jones's interpretations of his paintings, but also his painted interpretations of poetry.
