ABSTRACTBackground: The primary outcome was to evaluate whether goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) protocol, established on stroke volume variation (SVV) and oxygen delivery index (DO2I) using electrical cardiometry (EC) monitor, would be effective in reducing perioperative packed red blood cells (RBCs) transfusion, whereas the secondary outcome was to compare the effects of GDFT with liberal fluid therapy (LFT) as regards total amount of fluids transfused, perioperative complications, and postoperative length of ICU and total hospital stay.Settings and Design: This study was a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.Methods: The study was carried out on 48 patients scheduled for scoliosis surgery. MRI scans of glioblastoma patients can be misleading and some patients appear to show features of progressive disease although they respond to treatment. Here, the authors use MRI images of progressive disease or pseudoprogression and build a classifier using machine learning to distinguish the two.

Summary: Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) and piezoelectric generators (PGs) are generally considered the two most common approaches for harvesting ambient mechanical energy that is ubiquitous in our everyday life. The main difference between the two generators lies in their respective working frequency range. Despite the remarkable progress, there has been no quantitative studies on the operating frequency band of the two generators at frequency values below 4 Hz, typical of human motion. Here, the two generators are systematically compared based on their energy harvesting capabilities below 4 Hz. Unlike PGs, the TENG demonstrates higher power performance and is almost independent of the operating frequency, making it highly efficient for multi-frequency operation. In addition, PGs were shown to be inapplicable for charging capacitors when a rectifier was attached to the system. The results of this work reveal the tremendous potential of flexible TENGs for harvesting energy at low frequency.

Abstract Since their debut in 2012, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have attained high performance in terms of both energy density and instantaneous conversion, reaching up to 500 W m−2 and 85%, respectively, synchronous with multiple energy sources and hybridized designs. Here, a comprehensive review of the design guidelines of TENGs, their performance, and their designs in the context of Internet of Things (IoT) applications is presented. The development stages of TENGs in large‐scale self‐powered systems and technological applications enabled by harvesting energy from water waves or wind energy sources are also reviewed. This self‐powered capability is essential considering that IoT applications should be capable of operation anywhere and anytime, supported by a network of energy harvesting systems in arbitrary environments. In addition, this review paper investigates the development of self‐charging power units (SCPUs), which can be realized by pairing TENGs with energy storage devices, such as batteries and capacitors. Consequently, different designs of power management circuits, supercapacitors, and batteries that can be integrated with TENG devices are also reviewed. Finally, the significant factors that need to be addressed when designing and optimizing TENG‐based systems for energy harvesting and self‐powered sensing applications are discussed.

Abstract Bio-inspired technologies have remarkable potential for energy harvesting from clean and sustainable energy sources. Inspired by the hummingbird-wing structure, we propose a shape-adaptive, lightweight triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) designed to exploit the unique flutter mechanics of the hummingbird for small-scale wind energy harvesting. The flutter is confined between two surfaces for contact electrification upon oscillation. We investigate the flutter mechanics on multiple contact surfaces with several free-standing and lightweight electrification designs. The flutter driven-TENGs are deposited on simplified wing designs to match the electrical performance with variations in wind speed. The hummingbird TENG (H-TENG) device weighed 10 g, making it one of the lightest TENG harvesters in the literature. With a six TENG network, the hybrid design attained a 1.5 W m−2 peak electrical output at 7.5 m/s wind speed with an approximately linear increase in charge rate with the increased number of TENG harvesters. We demonstrate the ability of the H-TENG networks to operate Internet of Things (IoT) devices from sustainable and renewable energy sources.

In the current study, the accuracy of airborne gravity data is evaluated based on the most recent Global Geopotential Models (GGM) and terrestrial gravity data to find out to what extent these data are acceptable to be used in multi-applications (e. g., geodesy and geophysics). To achieve this goal, the remove-compute-restore (RCR) scheme, upward, and downward continuation operational methods (least square collocation and fast Fourier transform procedures) are applied. The airborne gravity data had been acquired by the Egyptian Nuclear Material Authority (ENMA) in the central-western desert for geological applications. Firstly, three GGMs models (EGM2008, EIGEN-6C4 and XGM2019e up to various degrees) are used to compare with the free-air airborne gravity anomaly, The EGM2008 model up to degree 720 produces the smallest mean and STD difference values with 2.59 and 3.07 mGal, respectively. The terrestrial gravity data are compared with the airborne gravity anomaly at both flight and ground levels. In-flight level, the terrestrial gravity data are upward continued to the flight level and compared with the airborne gravity anomaly. The statistical results show that the mean and STD differences are about 4.2 and 0.75 mGal, respectively. While in-ground level evaluation, two operational techniques are used to downward continue the airborne gravity data (Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Least Squares Collocation (LSC)). The combined Satellite model EGM2008 up to degree 720 and SRTM 30 m are used to remove and restore the long and short-wavelength information. It is observed that the collocation gives better statistical results than FFT with mean and STD difference values are about 3.13 and 1.13 and mGal, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

They had significantly lower serum lactate levels 2 h after induction (P = 0.033), at the end of surgery (P = 0.001) and 2 h postoperatively (P < 0.001) with shorter ICU stay (P < 0.001), total hospital length of stay (P < 0.001), and faster return of bowel function (P = 0.005). Conclusion:: Application of a GDFT protocol, established o SVV and DO2I using EC monitor in patients undergoing scoliosis surgery, can lead to reduced packed RBCs transfusions, reduced total crystalloid volume infusions, less postoperative pulmonary complications, shorter ICU, and total hospital stay with faster return of gastrointestinal function. In this approach, two novel modified carbon paste sensors were assembled for potentiometric assay of sulpiride (SLP). One sensor is based on the ion pair of SLP–phosphotungstic acid and incorporation with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) called MWCPE and the second sensor based on \beta -cyclodextrin ( \beta -CD) ionophore and sodium tetraphenylborate as anionic site additive called \beta -CDCPE. Dibutyl phthalate was added as plasticizer. The characteristics of the suggested sensors showed responses in terms of Nernstian slopes 59 ± 0.7 and 59.5 ± 0.3 mV decade–1 in wide linear ranges from to -1 \times 10^{-2} mol·L–1 and from 1\times 10^{-5} to - 1\times 10^-2 mol·L–1 with low detection limits 3.5\times 10^-7 and 5\times 10^-6 mol·L–1 with very short response time 5 and 10 s and exhibit adequate operational long lifetime (22 and 17 weeks) for MWCPE and $\beta $ -CDCPE, respectively. Both sensors response were pH independent in the range of 2–8 at 25 °C. For studying the ion-to-electron transducing ability of MWCNTs and $\beta $ -CD on the sensor surface, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements were done. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope were used for studying the surface morphology of MWCPE sensor. The sensors showed adequate selectivity for SLP with respect to a large number of interfering species. Moreover, SLP ions were successfully determined in pure state, pharmaceutical preparations, and human urine with high accuracy and precision using these sensors. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Background: Resistant plantar fasciopathy is a common orthopedic problem. Aim: Comparing two different methods of treatment. Methods: Fifty patients with chronic resistant plantar fasciopathy were divided into two groups. The first included 23 patients treated by endoscopic release of plantar fascia (EPF) and the second included 27 patients treated by injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Results: In the EPF group, the average VAS improved from 8.28 to 2.35. The average AOFAS improved from 65 to 94. In the PRP group, average VAS improved from 8.22 to 2.9 and the average AOFAS improved from 66 to 92. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ocean waves are one of the cleanest and most abundant energy sources on earth, and wave energy has the potential for future power generation. Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) technology has recently been proposed as a promising technology to harvest wave energy. In this paper, a theoretical study is performed on a duck-shaped TENG wave harvester recently introduced in our work. To enhance the design of the duck-shaped TENG wave harvester, the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the harvester’s overall structure, as well as its inner configuration, are analyzed, respectively, under different wave conditions, to optimize parameters such as duck radius and mass. Furthermore, a comprehensive hybrid 3D model is introduced to quantify the performance of the TENG wave harvester. Finally, the influence of different TENG parameters is validated by comparing the performance of several existing TENG wave harvesters.
