Abstract Controlling many-body interactions in two-dimensional systems remains a formidable task from the perspective of both fundamental physics and application. Here, we explore remarkable electronic structure alterations of MoS2 monolayer islands on graphene on Ir(111) induced by non-invasive self-intercalation. This introduces significant differences in morphology and strain of MoS2 as a result of the modified interaction with the substrate. Consequently, considerable changes of the band gap and non-rigid electronic shifts of valleys are detected, which are a combined effect of the screening of the many-body interactions and strain in MoS2. Furthermore, theory shows that each substrate leaves a unique stamp on the electronic structure of two-dimensional material in terms of those two parameters, restricted by their correlation.

ABSTRACT: With its more sustainable production mode and higher healthy food supplying, cultivated meat is gradually regarded as the promising alternative meat food in future by human beings. Most of the countries in the planet had participated in the cut-throat competition for sustainable protein searching, especially for the regions with low food self-sufficiency rate. In this paper, by reviewing the commercial market participation, product development stage, and technical research progress related to cultivated meat in detail, we demonstrated the industrialization progress of cultivated meat and explored the challenges of cultivated meat in the near future. 1) Seeded cell and serum free medium were the basic raw materials, which were directly related to the food safety regulation, production cost control and productivity improvement; 2) Bioreactor and regulation were the cornerstone of industrialization, which were closely related to the capacity expansion, product marketing; 3) Technological improvements in taste, texture, safety, scale, cost were the foundation of realizing product iterative upgrade and market acceptance.

Abstract Background Colonization of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterale (CRE) is considered as one of vital preconditions for infection, with corresponding high morbidity and mortality. It is important to construct a reliable prediction model for those CRE carriers with high risk of infection. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted in two Chinese tertiary hospitals for patients with CRE colonization from 2011 to 2021. Univariable analysis and the Fine-Gray sub-distribution hazard model were utilized to identify potential predictors for CRE-colonized infection, while death was the competing event. A nomogram was established to predict 30-day and 60-day risk of CRE-colonized infection. Results 879 eligible patients were enrolled in our study and divided into training (n = 761) and validation (n = 118) group, respectively. There were 196 (25.8%) patients suffered from subsequent CRE infection. The median duration of subsequent infection after identification of CRE colonization was 20 (interquartile range [IQR], 14–32) days. Multisite colonization, polymicrobial colonization, catheterization and receiving albumin after colonization, concomitant respiratory diseases, receiving carbapenems and antimicrobial combination therapy before CRE colonization within 90 days were included in final model. Model discrimination and calibration were acceptable for predicting the probability of 60-day CRE-colonized infection in both training (area under the curve [AUC], 74.7) and validation dataset (AUC, 81.1). Decision-curve analysis revealed a significantly better net benefit in current model. Conclusions Our nomogram has a good predictive performance and could contribute to early identification of CRE carriers with a high-risk of subsequent infection, although external validation would be required.

Background: Considering the therapeutic difficulties and mortality associated with bloodstream infection (BSI), it is essential to investigate other potential factors affecting mortality in critically ill patients with BSI and examine the utility of the quick Pitt bacteremia (qPitt) score to improve the survival rate. Objectives: To improve the predictive accuracy of the qPitt scoring system by evaluating the five current components of qPitt and including other potential factors influencing mortality in critically ill patients with BSI. Design: This was a retrospective cohort study. Methods: Medical information from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database was used in this retrospective cohort study. The risk factors associated with mortality were examined using a multivariate logistic regression model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used to assess the discriminatory capability of the prediction models. Results: In total, 1240 eligible critically ill patients with BSI were included. After adjustment for age, community-onset BSI, indwelling invasive lines, and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) ⩽ 8, acute kidney injury (AKI) was identified as a notable risk factor for 14-day mortality. Except for altered mental status, the four other main components of the original qPitt were significantly associated with 14-day mortality. Hence, we established a modified qPitt (m-qPitt) by adding AKI and replacing altered mental status with GCS ⩽ 8. The AUCs for m-qPitt and qPitt were 0.723 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.683–0.759] and 0.708 (95% CI: 0.669–0.745) in predicting 14-day mortality, respectively. Moreover, m-qPitt also had acceptable performance and discrimination power [0.700 (95% CI: 0.666–0.732)] in predicting 28-day mortality. Conclusion: AKI significantly influenced the survival of critically ill patients with BSIs. Compared with the original qPitt, our new m-qPitt was proven to have a better predictive performance for mortality in critically ill patients with BSI. Further studies should be conducted to validate the practicality of m-qPitt.

The Xing–Meng Orogenic Belt hosts an amount of low-sulfidation epithermal gold deposits. However, the tectonic-magmatic setting remains problematic, which hinders understanding the factors that control the gold endowment in the region. Wulaga deposit is the largest low-sulfidation epithermal gold deposit in the northeastern Xing–Meng Orogenic Belt. Gold mineralization occurs in the crypto-explosive breccia zone of subvolcanic granodiorite porphyry. Zircon U–Pb ages of three granodiorite apophyses and previous pyrite Rb–Sr dating (113.8 ± 4.4 Ma) indicate granodiorite porphyry and gold mineralization was coeval. The ore-related granodiorite porphyry is moderate SiO2, high-K calc-alkaline, and metaluminous, suggesting an I-type granite. Moreover, Wulaga granodiorite porphyry displays low initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios and positive εNd(t) values with TDM2(Nd) of 799.7–897.4 Ma and εHf(t) values with TDM2(Hf) of 652–785 Ma, indicating that it was derived from partial melting of the Neoproterozoic juvenile mafic lower crust. Ti-in-zircon thermometry, medium–high Sr/Y ratio, high Ba/La, and fO2 value indicate that Wulaga granodiorite porphyry formed at relatively low temperatures (∼700 °C), rich water, and high fugacity within the stability field of garnet in the juvenile lower crust. Combined with ore-related tectonic-magmatic activities in the Wulaga, Dong'an, and Sandaowanzi gold deposits, the Early Cretaceous low-sulfidation epithermal gold deposits in the Xing–Meng Orogenic Belt were formed from magmatic-hydrothermal events triggered by mutual interaction between post-orogenic lithospheric extension related to the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean and arc-back extension associated with rollback of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean plate. These data indicate the potential existence of the Early Cretaceous epithermal gold deposits that are related to the contemporaneous igneous activity.

Topological materials hold great promise for dissipationless information transmission. Here, the authors create Chern insulator junctions between domains with different Chern numbers in MnBi2Te4 to realize the basic operation of a topological circuit.

In this paper, we report our recent progress related to advanced digital signal processing (DSP) technologies to address the strong inter-core crosstalk (IC-XT) during multicore fiber (MCF) optical transmissions. MCF transmission technology has significant potential to break through the capacity crunch of single-mode fiber (SMF) transmissions. However, strong coupling among cores, namely, inter-core crosstalk (IC-XT), is unavoidable for high-density space-division multiplexing (SDM) transmissions using MCFs with the standard cladding size. To deal with this issue, we propose some novel DSP structures to eliminate IC-XT with considerable simplicity, based on the neural network equalizer (NNE)-based multiple-input and multiple-output digital signal processing (MIMO-DSP). The traditional NNE-based MIMO-DSP method has the ability to process the coupled SDM tributaries transmitted over MCFs; however, it exhibits complexity limitations for practical implementations. The implementation complexity of the NNE-based method is mainly attributed to the time-consumption of the training process and the large weight (neurons) numbers of the equalizers. Thus, we propose two main approaches to simplify NNE-based MIMO-DSP for the practical implementation of MCF transmissions: (1) To reduce the time-consumption of the training process in NNE-based MIMO-DSP, the idea of transfer learning (TL) is employed for initializing the weights, resulting in the faster convergence of the equalizers. (2) IC-XT cancellation is performed along with MIMO-DSP; thus, the dimensionality of MIMO-DSP could be reduced. To validate the performance improvement of the proposed machine learning DSP methods, both simulations and experiments related to transmissions and reception over MCFs were conducted. The results indicate that the proposed novel DSP structures possess the advantages of reduced complexity and improved robustness to IC-XT, which is beneficial for the next-generation high-density SDM transmissions.

Ultra-high purity elemental sources have long been considered a prerequisite for obtaining low impurity concentrations in compound semiconductors in the world of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) since its inception in 1968. However, we demonstrate that a “dirty” solid precursor, ruthenium(III) acetylacetonate [also known as Ru(acac)3], can yield single-phase, epitaxial, and superconducting Sr2RuO4 films with the same ease and control as III–V MBE. A superconducting transition was observed at ∼0.9 K, suggesting a low defect density and a high degree of crystallinity in these films. In contrast to the conventional MBE, which employs the ultra-pure Ru metal evaporated at ∼2000 °C as a Ru source, along with reactive ozone to obtain Ru → Ru4+ oxidation, the use of the Ru(acac)3 precursor significantly simplifies the MBE process by lowering the temperature for Ru sublimation (less than 200 °C) and by eliminating the need for ozone. Combining these results with the recent developments in hybrid MBE, we argue that leveraging the precursor chemistry will be necessary to realize next-generation breakthroughs in the synthesis of atomically precise quantum materials.

In recent years, due to the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), various sensors have come to be in great demand for IoT devices. Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) act as an important part of receivers in sensors. To improve the uptime of IoT devices, a bridged-switch energy-efficient switching scheme for successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs with a low-complexity capacitor drive circuit is proposed. The technique of top-plate sampling and closed-loop charge recycling is used in the proposed switching scheme so that neither the first nor the second comparison consumes switching energy. The third comparison uses bridge switches to connect the subarray to the main array, effectively reducing switching’s energy consumption. Only the least significant bit (LSB) is dependent on the accuracy of Vcm; thus, the last comparison consumes little switching energy. The proposed switching scheme achieves an average switching energy value of 47.5 CV2ref, which is 96.52% lower than that of the conventional capacitor switching scheme and reduces the area by 75%. The other major circuit modules employed are bootstrapped switches, a fully dynamic comparator, and dynamic SAR logic. The proposed ADC was simulated under the conditions of 180 nm CMOS process and 1 MS/s, resulting in a 9.8-bit effective number of bits (ENOB), a signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) of 60.76 dB, a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 69.85 dB, a power consumption of 14.7 μW, and a figure of merit (FoM) of 16.55 fJ/conv.-step.

Exotic states emerge from the interplay between band topology and ferromagnetism, but it remains less known in canted-antiferromagnetic phase. Here, the authors realize a canted-antiferromagnetic Chern insulator in atomically-thin MnBi2Te4 with electrical control of chiral-edge state transport.

Aiming at the problem of SON coverage self-optimization proposed in 3GPP, a method based on artificial bee colony algorithm was proposed to optimize the azimuth and down-tilt angles of base station antenna at the same time.Firstly, the base station determined the area to be optimized according to the MR data reported by user equipment, and established the objective function of the average gain of the base station antenna area to be optimized.Secondly, the artificial bee colony algorithm was used to solve the objective function, and the optimal solution of the base station antenna azimuth and down-til tangle was got.Finally, the base station antenna azimuth and down-tiltangles were adjusted to the optimal value to achieve the coverage self-optimization of the base station.Through system modeling, simulation and field verification, taking the RSRP received by the user’s equipment as the index, the identification method using the artificial bee colony algorithm was improved, 6.81 dB higher than the initial parameters which were not optimized, and 4.35 dB higher than the method based on artificial experience.The experimental results show that the optimization method proposed can accurately and timely adjust the azimuth and down-tiltangles of the base station antenna according to the user distribution, and improve the signal strength received by the user equipment.

Monitoring fruit tree flowering information in the open world is more crucial than in the research-oriented environment for managing agricultural production to increase yield and quality. This work presents a transformer-based flowering period monitoring approach in an open world in order to better monitor the whole blooming time of modern standardized orchards utilizing IoT technologies. This study takes images of flowering apple trees captured at a distance in the open world as the research object, extends the dataset by introducing the Slicing Aided Hyper Inference (SAHI) algorithm, and establishes an S-YOLO apple flower detection model by substituting the YOLOX backbone network with Swin Transformer-tiny. The experimental results show that S-YOLO outperformed YOLOX-s in the detection accuracy of the four blooming states by 7.94%, 8.05%, 3.49%, and 6.96%. It also outperformed YOLOX-s by 10.00%, 9.10%, 13.10%, and 7.20% for mAPALL, mAPS, mAPM, and mAPL, respectively. By increasing the width and depth of the network model, the accuracy of the larger S-YOLO was 88.18%, 88.95%, 89.50%, and 91.95% for each flowering state and 39.00%, 32.10%, 50.60%, and 64.30% for each type of mAP, respectively. The results show that the transformer-based method of monitoring the apple flower growth stage utilized S-YOLO to achieve the apple flower count, percentage analysis, peak flowering time determination, and flowering intensity quantification. The method can be applied to remotely monitor flowering information and estimate flowering intensity in modern standard orchards based on IoT technology, which is important for developing fruit digital production management technology and equipment and guiding orchard production management.

Automatic plant phenotype measurement technology based on the rapid and accurate reconstruction of maize structures at the seedling stage is essential for the early variety selection, cultivation, and scientific management of maize. Manual measurement is time-consuming, laborious, and error-prone. The lack of mobility of large equipment in the field make the high-throughput detection of maize plant phenotypes challenging. Therefore, a global 3D reconstruction algorithm was proposed for the high-throughput detection of maize phenotypic traits. First, a self-propelled mobile platform was used to automatically collect three-dimensional point clouds of maize seedling populations from multiple measurement points and perspectives. Second, the Harris corner detection algorithm and singular value decomposition (SVD) were used for the pre-calibration single measurement point multi-view alignment matrix. Finally, the multi-view registration algorithm and iterative nearest point algorithm (ICP) were used for the global 3D reconstruction of the maize seedling population. The results showed that the R2 of the plant height and maximum width measured by the global 3D reconstruction of the seedling maize population were 0.98 and 0.99 with RMSE of 1.39 cm and 1.45 cm and mean absolute percentage errors (MAPEs) of 1.92% and 2.29%, respectively. For the standard sphere, the percentage of the Hausdorff distance set of reconstruction point clouds less than 0.5 cm was 55.26%, and the percentage was 76.88% for those less than 0.8 cm. The method proposed in this study provides a reference for the global reconstruction and phenotypic measurement of crop populations at the seedling stage, which aids in the early management of maize with precision and intelligence.

Compared with the traditional cable, the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) cable has the advantages of low loss and large capacity transmission. At present, the research on HTS cables mainly focuses on the calculation of AC loss, the performance under specific working conditions and cooling system design. Relatively little research has been carried out on the basic design and overall layout optimization of the cables. In this paper, an HTS cable with a rated current of 4 kA was designed. Firstly, according to the selected superconducting cable parameters, the body design of cables with different structures was carried out and the corresponding finite element models were built. Then, the performance analysis of HTS cables with different layouts was carried out based on the proposed cable performance evaluation indicators and the CORC double-layer structure was determined as the scheme of this cable. Finally, the AC loss of the cable with this topology was calculated to be 9.81 J/m under rated conditions. The cooling system can ensure the safe operation of the cable in the rated temperature range.

A mathematical model is developed to study the shimmy oscillations of aircraft nose landing gear with a dual-wheel co-rotation configuration. This model incorporates the dynamics of the torsional and lateral mode and the non-linear kinematics of the tire. The procedure of different types of shimmy bifurcation analysis is described in detail. The effect of the co-rotation configuration on shimmy oscillation is compared with non-co-rotation wheels. More specifically, the wheel separation distance and wheel moment of inertia are selected as important parameters to study the effect of the co-rotation configuration on the aircraft shimmy. It is concluded that as the wheel separation distance increases, the lateral shimmy becomes more stable, while the torsional mode become less stable. In comparison to the non-co-rotation configuration, dual co-rotation wheels have a petty effect on landing gear with small wheel separations. However, in the condition of a relatively large distance between wheels, the co-rotation configuration has a great positive influence on the anti-torsional shimmy. The wheel moment inertia, within a practical range, affects shimmy oscillation weakly for both the co-rotation and the non-co-rotation configuration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
