Abstract

Characteristics of the surface-wave plasma generated by a radial-line slot antenna (RLSA) have been studied by both direct plasma probe measurements and numerical simulations. Some unique characteristics have been found, including excellent critical radial plasma uniformity, low electron temperature under various pressure conditions, the main plasma generation area of RLSA being limited in the plasma surface, and few high-energy electrons existing in the wafer region. Numerical simulations are implemented to reveal the more essential difference in plasma generation between the RLSA and the other plasma sources, where the superiority of RLSA plasma has been confirmed. The features of high plasma uniformity and low electron temperature lead to free plasma damage in our associated etching process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A 48-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for investigation of mild renal dysfunction. A blood examination revealed mild elevation of creatinine level (1.77 mg/dl). Urinary examination revealed mild protein excretion (0.54 g/day) and microhematuria; renal biopsy revealed the focal proliferation of large mononuclear cells with mitosis in glomerular capillaries. According to immunohistochemical analysis, the intravascular lymphomatous cells stained positively with anti-leukocyte common antigen (LCA: CD45) and CD20, indicating a B lymphocyte lineage. In electron microscopy, the glomerular capillary was filled with lymphoma cells and epithelial foot process fusion was noted. Immunohistochemical analysis on adhesive molecules revealed a lack of CD11a expression on lymphoma cells, but positive CD54 expression on endothelial cells. Systemic 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) revealed no abnormal uptake of isotopes. On the basis of these findings, we diagnosed intravascular diffuse large B cell lymphoma localized in the kidney. Despite treatment with rituximab and CHOP (prednisolone, doxorubicin, vincristine, cyclophosphamide) for 3 cycles at 1-month intervals, the renal dysfunction did not change. In histopathological analysis of the second biopsy, lymphoma cells disappeared, but focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and moderate interstitial fibrosis were noted. Electron microscopic findings revealed severe subendothelial edema with mesangial interposition, indicating severe endothelial damage. Epithelial foot process fusion was improved. These pathological analyses let us conclude that a lack of CD11a could be a candidate factor for prevention of the extravasation of lymphoma cells from blood vessels in our patient. Abstract

A pulsed power supply has been developed for exciting a copper vapor laser with a bore diameter of 80 mm and a discharge length of 2890 mm. The pulsed power supply has two thyratrons, an LC-inversion circuit and a two-staged magnetic pulse compression circuit. An efficiency of 82% has been obtained which is defined as the ratio of energy stored in the storage capacitor to the output energy of the magnetic pulse compression circuit, with a voltage greater than 40 kV, averaged output power of 24 kW, and voltage rise time of 70 ns. The pulsed power supply was successfully operated for more than 2000 h and an optical output power of 272 W was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Cross sections as well as vector and tensor analyzing powers for the 2H( $\vec d, n$) 3He reactions at energies around 30 keV are analyzed by the invariant-amplitude method. In addition, microscopic four-body calculations along the Faddeev-Yakubovsky method are reported, with limitations only on the interactions and intermediate states of the three-nucleon subsystem. The suppression of the cross section due to simultaneous polarizations of the projectile and the target is discussed comparing the results from both of these methods as well as from earlier works. Abstract

Allele and haplotype frequencies of 10 Y-STR loci DYS19, DYS385, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS438 and DYS439 were determined in 115 unrelated Japanese males using the Y-PLEX™6 and Y-PLEX™5 PCR amplification kits. A total of 105 different haplotypes was observed, 96 of them being unique. The haplotype diversity was 0.9960 and the discrimination capacity was 0.9130. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
