The growth of organic nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal 2-amino-5-chloropyridinium trichloroacetate (2A5CPTCA) has been synthesized and single crystals have been grown from methanol solvent by slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were subjected to various characterization analyses in order to find out the suitability for device fabrication. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 2A5CPTCA crystallizes in monoclinic system with the space group Cc. The grown crystal was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectral analysis to find out the functional groups. The nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is a research technique that exploits the magnetic properties of certain atomic nuclei. The optical transparency window in the visible and near-IR (200--1100 nm) regions was found to be good for NLO applications. Thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis were used to study its thermal properties. The powder second harmonic generation efficiency measurement with Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) radiation shows that the highest value when compared with the standard potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystal. A new metal–organic crystal, β-alanine cadmium bromide monohydrate (β-ACBM) has been grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals have been subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction to determine the crystal structure. The β-ACBM crystallized in monoclinic system, which belongs to the space group P21/c witha= 8.6734(6) Å,b= 13.9451(8) Å,c= 7.6801(5) Å, β = 103.713(2)o, volume = 902.44(10) Å3,Z= 4, calculated density = 2.792 Mg/m3,F(000) = 704, absorption coefficient = 11.231 mm−1, the finalR= 0.0252 and wR2 = 0.0601 for 2065 observed reflections [I > 2sigma(I)]. FT-IR spectroscopy analysis was carried out in order to identify the functional groups of the title compound. The presence of proton and carbon in the β-ACBM was confirmed by1H and13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectral analysis. The UV-Vis-NIR transmittance spectrum has been recorded for the grown β-ACBM crystal. The refractive index of β-ACBM crystal was determined by Brewster's angle method using He–Ne laser. Single crystals of sulphamic acid of 11 × 7 ×3mm3 dimension were successfully grown by slow evaporation technique.The crystal structure of grown crystals was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The presence of functional groups in the crystal lattice has been qualitatively determined by FT-IR and FT-Raman analyses. Theoretical group factor analysis predicts the possible modes of vibrations. The optical transmission spectroscopy (UV-Vis) clearly evidences the suitability of this material for optical application. The thermal behaviour of the crystal was studied by thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) studies. Organic nonlinear optical crystal morpholinium hydrogen tartrate (MHT), with molecular formula [C8H15NO7], has been grown by slow evaporation solution technique. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study confirms that MHT crystallizes in orthorhombic system with noncentrosymmetric space group P212121. FTIR spectrum was recorded to identify the various functional groups of MHT. The various kinds of protons and carbons of MHT have been identified using 1H and 13C NMR spectral analyses.The range of optical absorption was ascertained by recording UV-Vis-NIR spectral studies. The TG/DTA studies revealed that the grown crystal is thermally stable up to 159.26°C. The mechanical property of the grown crystal was studied using Vickers microhardness studies.
