The research paper proposes a novel approach for signal detection in cognitive radio networks, aiming to improve spectrum utilization and overall performance. The approach combines matched filter-based detection and the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA)-optimized energy detection.Matched filtering is a technique used to detect the presence of a known signal. It correlates the received signal with a reference waveform to determine if the signal is present. In the proposed approach, matched filtering is utilized to detect known signals in the cognitive radio network.On the other hand, energy detection is employed to identify unknown signals. Energy detection measures the energy level of the received signal and compares it to a predetermined threshold. If the energy exceeds the threshold, it is considered as a signal. In this approach, energy detection is optimized using the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). SSA is a metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the behavior of salps in nature, and it is used to find an optimal energy threshold for energy detection in order to improve detection accuracy. The proposed approach is evaluated through simulations, and the results demonstrate its superiority over existing methods in terms of probability of detection, probability of false alarm, and receiver operating characteristics. This indicates that the proposed hybrid approach offers better performance in detecting both known and unknown signals, leading to more efficient spectrum utilization.

Abstract Glioblastoma is the most lethal primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Simplified two-dimensional (2D) cell culture and neurospheres in vitro models fail to recapitulate the complexity of the tumor microenvironment, limiting its ability to predict therapeutic response. Three-dimensional (3D) scaffold-based models have emerged as a promising alternative for addressing these concerns. One such 3D system is gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels, and we aimed to understand the suitability of using this system to mimic treatment-resistant glioblastoma cells that reside in specific niches. We characterized the phenotype of patient-derived glioma cells cultured in GelMA hydrogels (3D-GMH) for their tumorigenic properties using invasion and chemoresponse assays. In addition, we used integrated single-cell and spatial transcriptome analysis to compare cells cultured in 3D-GMH to neoplastic cells in vivo. Finally, we assessed tumor-immune cell interactions with a macrophage infiltration assay and a cytokine array. We show that the 3D-GMH system enriches treatment-resistant mesenchymal cells that are not represented in neurosphere cultures. Cells cultured in 3D-GMH resemble a mesenchymal-like cellular phenotype found in perivascular and hypoxic regions and recruit macrophages by secreting cytokines, a hallmark of the mesenchymal phenotype. Our 3D-GMH model effectively mimics the phenotype of glioma cells that are found in the perivascular and hypoxic niches of the glioblastoma core in situ, in contrast to the neurosphere cultures that enrich cells of the infiltrative edge of the tumor. This contrast highlights the need for due diligence in selecting an appropriate model when designing a study‘s objectives.

G protein-coupled receptor 56 (GPR56/ADGRG1) is an adhesion GPCR with an essential role in brain development and cancer. Elevated expression of GPR56 was observed in the clinical specimens of Glioblastoma (GBM), a highly invasive primary brain tumor. However, we found the expression to be variable across the specimens, presumably due to the intratumor heterogeneity of GBM. Therefore, we re-examined GPR56 expression in public domain spatial gene expression data and single-cell expression data for GBM, which revealed that GPR56 expression was high in cellular tumors, infiltrating tumor cells, and proliferating cells, low in microvascular proliferation and peri-necrotic areas of the tumor, especially in hypoxic mesenchymal-like cells. To gain a better understanding of the consequences of GPR56 downregulation in tumor cells and other molecular changes associated with it, we generated a sh-RNA-mediated GPR56 knockdown in the GBM cell line U373 and performed transcriptomics, proteomics, and phospho-proteomics analysis. Our analysis revealed enrichment of gene signatures, pathways, and phosphorylation of proteins potentially associated with mesenchymal (MES) transition in the tumor and concurrent increase in cell invasion and migration behavior of the GPR56 knockdown GBM cells. Interestingly, our analysis also showed elevated expression of Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) - a known interactor of GPR56, in the knockdown cells. The inverse expression of GPR56 and TG2 was also observed in intratumoral, spatial gene expression data for GBM and in GBM cell lines cultured in vitro under hypoxic conditions. Integrating all these observations, we propose a putative functional link between the inverse expression of the two proteins, the hypoxic niche and the mesenchymal status in the tumor. Hypoxia-induced downregulation of GPR56 and activation of TG2 may result in a network of molecular events that contribute to the mesenchymal transition of GBM cells, and we propose a putative model to explain this functional and regulatory relationship of the two proteins.

Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a common cause of adult spinal cord dysfunction. Although the therapeutic options for moderate to severe CSM patients have been established well, the existing guidelines for therapeutic decisions in mild cases of CSM are unclear. We present a review of literature on conservative treatment and surgery for CSM and suggest general recommendations applicable in various clinical presentations and in different geographic locations across the globe, with due considerations to available resources and locally prevalent practices.

Gliomas are heavily infiltrated with immune cells of myeloid origin. Past studies have shown that high-grade gliomas have a higher proportion of alternatively activated and suppressive myeloid cells when compared to low-grade gliomas, which correlate with poor prognosis. However, the differences in immune cell phenotypes within high-grade gliomas (between grade 3 and grade 4 or GBM) are relatively less explored, and a correlation of phenotypic characteristics between immune cells in the blood and high-grade tumors has not been performed. Additionally, myeloid cells of granulocytic origin present in gliomas remain poorly characterized. Herein, we address these questions through phenotypic characterizations of monocytes and neutrophils present in blood and tumors of individuals with glioblastoma (GBM, IDH-wild type) or grade 3 IDH-mutant gliomas. We observe that neutrophils are highly heterogeneous among individuals with glioma, and are different from healthy controls. We also show that CD163 expressing M2 monocytes are present in greater proportions in GBM tissue when compared to grade 3 IDH-mutant glioma tissue, and a larger proportion of granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells are present in grade 3 IDH-mutant gliomas when compared to GBM. Finally, we demonstrate that the expression levels of CD86 and CD63 showed a high correlation between blood and tumor and suggest that these may be used as possible markers for prognosis.

A novel natural hydroxyapatite (HAp) bioceramic was extracted from the ostrich cortical bone by the thermal decomposition method. HAp was characterized by different analytical tools such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Removal of organic impurities from the bone powder was confirmed by TGA analysis. FTIR spectra of HAp confirmed the presence of the major functional groups such as phosphate (PO43−), hydroxyl (OH−), and carbonate (CO32−) in the bioceramic. The XRD data revealed that the HAp was the crystalline phase obtained by calcination of the bone powder at 950°C, and the SEM analyses confirmed the typical plate-like texture of the nanosized HAp crystals.

Aim: The present experiment was conducted to study the effect of post hatch dietary fat supplementation on performance of broiler chicken. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 day-old Ven Cobb broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups of 30 chicks in each (three replicates of 10 birds/treatment). The trial lasted for 35 days. The experimental design was a completely randomized design. Four types of diet were formulated for 1st week: T1, T2, T3 and T4 contained control diet with no added fat, 2.5, 5 and 7.5% fat, respectively. Serum lipoprotein is principal risk factor for atherosclerosis. There is growing evidence that risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) begins to emerge from infancy. Lipoprotein level is affected by different feeding pattern during infancy. Aim: To compare serum lipoprotein profile of exclusively breast fed, mixed fed and formula fed preterm infant. Materials and Methods: A total of two fifty preterm newborn were recruited at birth and divided into three groups. Group A were Exclusively Breast Fed (EBF), Group B were Mixed Fed (MF) and Group C were Formula/bovine milk Fed (FF) infants. Preterm newborns with severe sepsis, hypoglycemia, Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) stage II and III, meconium stained amniotic fluid, pathological jaundice, Hyaline Membrane Disease (HMD), less than 28 weeks gestation, with major congenital anomaly and infants born to mothers with DM, gestational diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia or on long term medications were excluded from the study. Is report, the extraction process for highly nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (HAp) by thermal decomposition of the femur bone of buffalo and its utilization as filler to produce nanocomposite with poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT). Advanced analytical techniques (such as X‐ray diffraction [XRD], Fourier transform infrared [FTIR] spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy [SEM]) are employed to study the structural, chemical, and morphological properties of the HAp. The XRD analyses reveal that the crystallite size of HAp particles significantly increases from 10 (at 600 °C) to 40 nm (at 1100 °C) on increasing the calcination temperature. The formation of agglomerates (having diameters ranging from 1.75 to 2.72 µm) with thin flake‐like crystals of the HAp is revealed by the SEM analysis. The biodegradation properties of the 3D printed PBAT/HAp nanocomposites are investigated by water absorption and tris‐buffer tests. Designing smart irrigation systems is a transdisciplinary task that includes choosing the best field-specific sensing devices, getting data from these devices, pre-processing the data, analysing and classifying the data, acting on the data using the Internet of Things (IoT), and getting feedback from the system. A variety of smart irrigation models, including IBM ThingSpeak, Tracxn, Farm Connect, Hydrawise, etc. have been proposed by researchers, and each of them have its own operational & deployment-specific characteristics. When applied to real-time irrigation situations, these models are either very complicated or have a slow response time and low efficiency. Moreover, these models have a higher cost, which limits their scalability levels. To overcome these issues, this present work discusses design of a novel efficient IoT based irrigation platform via fuzzy bioinspired multisensory analysis of on-field parameter sets. The proposed platform uses low-cost components for sensing moisture levels, temperature levels, rain probability, NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium) levels, and soil types. After the measured data have been evaluated by a Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to determine the best kind of sensors to utilise, a fuzzy decision layer is activated to decide whether or not to water the area. The resulting growth of plants is fed-back into the model, and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to tune the fuzzy rules for better water-flow under multiple types of crops. Due to the integration of GWO with Fuzzy Logic controller, the proposed model improved yield efficiency by 8.5%, reduced computational delay by 4.9%, and reduced deployment cost compared to standard smart irrigation models. Background: Several changes in normal pressure dynamics on the brain occur with a decompressive craniectomy and subsequent cranioplasty. Dead space volume is an important factor contributing to intracranial volume postcranioplasty. A decrease in this volume due to negative suction drain along with relative negative pressure on the brain with the loss of external atmospheric pressure may lead to fatal cerebral edema. Case Description: A 52-year-old gentleman with a 210 mL volume and middle cerebral artery territory infarction underwent an emergency craniectomy and 6 months later a titanium mold cranioplasty. Precranioplasty computed tomography (CT) scan evaluation revealed a sunken skin flap with a 9 mm contralateral midline shift. Immediately following an uneventful surgery, the patient had sudden fall in blood pressure to 60/40 mmHg and over a few min had dilated fixed pupils. CT revealed severe diffuse cerebral edema in bilateral hemispheres with microhemorrhages and expansion of the sunken right gliotic brain along with ipsilateral ventricular dilatation. Despite undergoing a contralateral decompressive craniectomy due to the midline shift toward the right, the outcome was fatal. Conclusion: Careful preoperative risk assessment in cranioplasty and close monitoring postprocedure is crucial, especially in malnourished, poststroke cases, with a sinking skin flap syndrome, and a long interval between decompressive craniectomy and cranioplasty. The great importance of the fractional kinetic equations (FKEs) can be seen in the very recent research work of proposing such new equations and finding their solutions by different analytical and numerical methods. The paramount purpose of the present work is to proffer and study new FKEs involving the composition of the generalized Galúe Struve function of first kind and k-Mittag–Leffler function and apply a very influential effective analytical approach based on Laplace transform to find their analytical solutions. The obtained solutions have been presented with some real values and the simulation done via MATLAB. Furthermore, the numerical and graphical interpretations are also mentioned to illustrate the main results. Some special cases are to be taken under consideration to get the results in simpler form. Background: Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors cause renal phosphate wasting leading to hypophosphatemia manifesting as bone pain and fractures. About 95% of these tumors involve the extremities and the appendicular skeleton, with spinal tumors being exceedingly rare. We describe a case of non-compressive quadriparesis, caused by a thoracic vertebral body phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor (PMT). Case Description: A 34-year-old gentleman presented with a 3-year history of gradually progressive quadriparesis, predominantly involving proximal muscles. Magnetic resonance imaging neither showed evidence of compressive lesions nor myelopathy. On routine biochemistry, he was found to have hypophosphatemia and phosphaturia, with serum phosphorus levels of 1.84 mg/dl, and fractional excretion of phosphorus >5%. A DOTATOC positron emission tomography scan suggested the possibility of a PMT in the D10 vertebral body with a corresponding hyperdense/sclerotic focus on non-contrast computed tomography. After instituting phosphate replacement therapy and complete surgical excision of the hyperdense focus, he made a full neurological recovery. His phosphate levels normalized without the need for supplements. Histopathological examination showed spindle cells with positive staining for Vimentin, a mesenchymal cell marker. At 5 years of follow-up, the patient continues to be asymptomatic with a full return to normal function and no residual weakness. Conclusion: PMTs involving the spine are a rare reversible cause of non-compressive quadriparesis. Usnic acid contents in acetone extracts of 31 samples of lichen Parmelia flexilis collected from different altitudes were identified using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The usnic acid content varied in between highest 5.13% to lowest 1.66% in oven dried (80 °C) lichen samples. The species collected from lower altitudes all show high levels of usnic acid. The negative relationship between usnic acid and altitude was obtained. Statistically, it is revealed that there is a significant difference between average percentages of usnic acid in lichen samples with varying altitudes (p < 0.05). Beside these, the precipitation averages of the regions where the species have been collected were linked with the content of usnic acid. It is clear that lichens from the regions receiving the highest precipitation produced lower amounts of usnic acid. The results suggest that the production of secondary metabolite in lichens is altered due to the climatic variables like temperature and precipitation at different altitude gradients. The broadly apposite bioplastic, poly lactic acid was synthesized by using deinked paper waste as substrate, fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae under controlled laboratory conditions followed by condensation polymerization. The substrate was initially subjected to acid hydrolysis followed by alkali neutralization to attain an ideal neutral pH for the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. At regular intervals the amount of reducing sugar present in the samples were tested using 2,4-dinitrosalicyclic acid (DNS) method and the amount of sugar that was metabolized to alcohol and lactate were estimated using cerric ammonium nitrate and ρ-hydroxy biphenyl method respectively. The lactic acid extract was concentrated using a rotary vacuum evaporator and the amount was determined spectrophotometrically. The concentrated extract was used for polymerization in the presence of stannous chloride. This resulted in the production of white amorphous wafers. Twenty two multifloral honey samples representing central western parts of Nepal were examined spectrophotometrically for their antioxidant properties and total phenol content. The modified Folin-Ciocalteu method was used to determine total phenol content and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radicals (DPPH•) assay for antiradical activity. In all samples, physicochemical parameters like moisture, reducing sugar, sucrose, ash, free acidity and water insoluble matter were also measured according to harmonized methods of the International Honey Commission (IHC). The results of physicochemical analysis showed that all the values, except for moisture of a small number of high altitude honey samples, are in good agreement with the current Nepalese standard. The total phenolic contents of honey, collected from high and low altitude, ranged from 154.87 to 41.90 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE/100 g) respectively, at corresponding antiradical activity using DPPH• expressed as percent inhibition of 76.66% and 25.69%. The IC50 values of selected high altitude honey samples ranged from 56 to 72 mg/mL. The total antioxidant properties were correlated (P<0.01) between total phenol content and antiradical activity (r=0.992). This article discusses research which examined the effect of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae probiotic supplementation on broiler chicken. Topics covered include the types of diet formulated during the first week of the study, the maximum conversion of feed into gain recorded, and the effect of post hatch Saccharomyces cerevisiae supplementation in the diet on the overall feed conversion ratio (FCR).

Aim: The present experiment was conducted to study the effect of post hatch dietary fat supplementation on performance of broiler chicken. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 day-old Ven Cobb broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups of 30 chicks in each (three replicates of 10 birds/treatment). The trial lasted for 35 days. The experimental design was a completely randomized design. Four types of diet were formulated for 1st week: T1, T2, T3 and T4 contained control diet with no added fat, 2.5, 5 and 7.5% fat, respectively. After 1st week post-hatch period chicks were fed ad libitum with the normal basal diet as per Bureau of Indian Standard recommendations till completion of the experiment (8-35 days). Results: Significantly higher (p<0.05) body weight and improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) was recorded in birds fed 5% dietary fat at the end of the experiment whereas, feed intake was not significantly affected. Significantly (p<0.05) higher dressed weight was observed due to 5% fat supplementation than other groups whereas, it was not significant for other carcass cuts. No significant differences were observed in moisture, protein and lipid content of breast and thigh muscle of broiler due to supplemented fat whereas, 2.5% dietary fat significantly (p<0.05) increase the serum HI titer on day 28th. In biochemical profile, higher serum albumin (g/dl) was recorded due to 5% fat supplementation whereas other biochemical components did not show any significance difference among treatments. Forty eight water samples were collected from 12 shrimp rearing ponds in Khulna Division, southern part of Bangladesh. Fifteen Vibrio spp were isolated and identified and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing against ten commercial antibiotic disks. 58% water samples were found positive for Vibrio spp. Among the isolates V. fischeri (40%) were the most prominent, followed by V. vulnificus (27%), V. anguillarum (26%), and V. cincinnatiensis (7%). Most of the Vibrio isolates were found to tolerate as much as 6% concentrations of NaCl and could not grow in culture medium without added salt. Antibiotic resistance pattern showed the highest resistance to ampicillin (100%), followed by amoxicillin (78%), nalidixic acid (40%), vancomycin (13.33%), neomycin (6.66%) and chloramphenicol (6.66%). All the Isolates were observed sensitive to gentamycin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin and doxycyclin. Plasmid profiling of the isolates were conducted to observe if there any association of large plasmids with antibiotic resistance. Only 3 isolates were found to carry plasmid. Among them Vibrio anguillarum/P3 harbored four plasmids of 2.7, 3.0, 3.9 and 5.1 Kbp, Vibrio anguillarum/P1 harbored one plasmid of larger than 7.3 kbp and Vibrio cincinnatiensis/ P5H harbored one plasmid of larger than 30 kbp. Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly impacted healthcare services globally, with particular challenges observed in maternal and child health (MCH) care. This study aimed to assess the impact of the pandemic on MCH services in northern India, focusing on key government programs., Methods: Data were collected from four major MCH programs in India: Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), and the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). The study compared MCH service utilization and outcomes during the pandemic period (March-September 2020) with the same period in 2019., Results: Preliminary findings indicated a significant reduction in the utilization of MCH services during the pandemic, with a decrease observed in institutional deliveries, antenatal care visits, and immunization coverage. For instance, institutional deliveries declined by 30% compared with the previous year, with a similar decrease observed in antenatal care visits. Immunization coverage also decreased by approximately 25%, indicating a substantial decline in preventive care services. Challenges in accessing essential treatments for sick infants have also been reported, with a 40% decrease in the utilization of free treatment services under the JSSK program., Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has substantially impacted MCH services in northern India, highlighting the vulnerability of these essential health programs during public health emergencies. The objective of the study was to determine the causes of lactation failure (LF), factors affecting relactation in mothers having low milk supply (LMS) and LF, and to know the success rate of relactation by proper counselling and positive support group. It was a prospective hospital-based study conducted in tertiary care referral hospital in mothers with their biological infants of less than 4 months of age, who were admitted with LF and some breastfeeding (BF) related problems. Mothers were advised for frequent BF in proper position and good attachment under supervision of trained BF experts with good support group. Lactogogue was used in few mothers. There were 64 mothers with LF and LMS, out of them 45 (70.3%) were between the age of 21-35 years. Maximum infants ( n = 51, 79.69%) were below 6 weeks of age; and in 32 (78.04%) infants, artificial feeding was started within 15 days of postnatal life. Commonest cause of LF was mother's misconception of insufficient milk ( n = 25, 39%). Relactation was possible in 100% mothers. Complete relactation was possible in 29 (85.29%) mothers when their age was <25 years and in 38 (86.36%) mothers when their infants age was <6 weeks. Chances of complete relactation were less, when duration of artificial feeding was more and infant was fed with bottle (62.96%). We found no difference with the use of lactogogue. Relactation was possible in 100% of mothers (may be partial) by continuous and positive support from family members and trained health workers.
