This article presents a novel simulation tool for the analysis of winter navigation operations in the Baltic Sea in the context of the Finnish–Swedish Winter Navigation System (FSWNS). The aim of the tool is to simulate the performance of the FSWNS under various potential future operating scenarios and thereby support decision making in matters affecting the operation and development of the FSWNS, for instance, in terms of icebreaking resources and ice class regulations. To this end, the tool considers key performance factors and characteristics of the FSWNS, such as the prevailing ice conditions, the ice-going capability and other technical characteristics of the relevant merchant vessels, the availability of icebreaking resources, and the features of specific icebreaking operations (e.g., convoys). The tool would allow testing of several "what-if" scenarios, answering questions related to optimal engine power for safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly navigation and the optimal scheduling of icebreakers for effective and cost-efficient assistance missions. Communication skills are key to the workforce success of engineering graduates. The Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) Workforce Communication Program at Georgia Tech has successfully incorporated executive panel interaction into its capstone design course to align student skills with executive expectations. The objectives of the panel are to raise student awareness about the importance of communication to workforce success and to gain knowledge about communication skills directly from executives. Executives interact directly with students about workforce communication, career advancement, and the communication skills they consider most critical. Arsenic is a well-known carcinogen with emerging reports showing a range of health outcomes even for low to moderate levels of exposure. This study deals with arsenic exposure and associated increased lifetime cancer risk for populations in arsenic-endemic regions of rural Bengal, where arsenic-safe drinking water is being supplied at present. We found a median total exposure of inorganic arsenic to be 2. 9 μg/Kg BW/day (5th and 95th percentiles were 1.1 μg/Kg BW/day and 7.9 μg/Kg BW/day); with major contribution from cooked rice intake (2.4 µg/Kg BW/day). A significant number of households drank arsenic safe water but used arsenic-rich water for rice cooking. As a result, 67% participants had inorganic arsenic intake above the JEFCA threshold value of 3 μg/Kg BW/day for cancer risk from only rice consumption when arsenic contaminated water was used for cooking (median: 3.5 μg/Kg BW/day) compared to 29% participants that relied on arsenic-free cooking water (median: 1.0 µg/kg BW/day). Arsenic in urine samples of study participants ranged from 31.7 to 520 µg/L and was significantly associated with the arsenic intake (r = 0.76); confirming the preponderance of arsenic exposure from cooked rice. The median arsenic attributable cancer risks from drinking water and cooked rice were estimated to be 2.4 × 10-5 and 2.7 × 10-4 respectively, which further emphasized the importance of arsenic exposure from staple diet. Our results show that any mitigation strategy should include both drinking water and local staple foods in order to minimize the potential health risks of arsenic exposure. Introduction: Endometriosis is one of the common, gynaecological disorders associated with chronic pelvic pain and subfertility affecting ~10% of reproductive age women. The clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis of endometriosis subtypes and associated risk factors are largely unknown. Genome-Wide Association (GWA) Studies (GWAS) provide strong evidence for the role of genetic risk factors contributing to endometriosis. However, no studies have investigated the association of the GWAS-identified single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) with endometriosis risk in the Indian population; therefore, one-sixth of the world's population is not represented in the global genome consortiums on endometriosis. The Endometriosis Clinical and Genetic Research in India (ECGRI) study aims to broaden our understanding of the clinical phenotypes and genetic risks associated with endometriosis., Methods and Analysis: ECGRI is a large-scale, multisite, case-control study of 2000 endometriosis cases and 2000 hospital controls to be recruited over 4 years at 15 collaborating study sites across India covering representative Indian population from east,north-east, north, central, west and southern geographical zones of India. We will use the World Endometriosis Research Foundation Endometriosis Phenome and Biobanking Harmonisation Project (WERF-EPHect) data collection instruments for capturing information on clinical, epidemiological, lifestyle, environmental and surgical factors. WERF-EPHect standard operating procedures will be followed for the collection, processing and storage of biological samples. The principal analyses will be for main outcome measures of the incidence of endometriosis, disease subtypes and disease severity determined from the clinical data. This will be followed by GWAS within and across ethnic groups., Ethics and Dissemination: The study is approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health and all participating study sites. The study is also approved by the Health Ministry Screening Committee of the Government of India.
