The premium is a deterministic function to compensate for losses due to random events and it is an essential part of an insurance company operation. Numerous issues are faced by the Takaful operator in the practice of insurance, one of them is “validity of life insurance” which is still under discussion among Islamic scholars. Their conversation leads to the issue of approach which are utilised by the Takaful operator to create a sales illustration product. Based on their current discussion, there are still some hidden elements and some missing points related to the concept of loss and surplus sharing utilised by Takaful operator. Therefore, this paper focuses on the practice of Family Takaful for producing the sale illustration product which Shariah compliant. The study develops a new model of the premium for an equity-linked policy (Unit-linked product) by considering the properties of Takaful contracts namely Tabarru and Mudarabah. It aims to ensure that a new model developed can comprehensively demonstrate Shariah compliance. The model adapted and derived from the current Takaful Business Model. We add several assumptions to implicate the approach in a real problem associated with the ratio of profit-sharing (Mudarabah) and loss-sharing (Tabarru). Secondary data are used to test and produce a sales illustration product by utilising a new integrated model of the premium developed. Based on the empirical results, a new model of premium is used to create a sales illustration product that comprehensively complies with Shariah and also more profitable and beneficial when compared with a standard approach used by Takaful operator.

Purpose: This study examined the economic and social impact of Malaysian universities on their communities from stakeholders' perspectives. It analysed whether university stakeholders' spending, human capital (HC) and knowledge exploration (KE) will impact aggregate income (AI), quality of life (QOL) and business growth (BG) in surrounding communities. Design/methodology/approach: A survey was conducted among 540 university stakeholders from the southern, northern and eastern regions of Malaysia, representing the alumni, community and industry. Data were subjected to factor analysis using structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings: Results showed that universities impacted communities' economic development and wellbeing, thereby fulfilling their community-related role. Originality/value: This study addressed universities' role in communities' economic growth and social development. Universities' contributions towards communities can be improved through the proposed model, which suggests ways to maximise their impact. A more detailed study of a particular university is needed to identify other factors that can strengthen universities' impact, even at national and global levels.

There has been an increase in information communication technology (ICT) and work-life balance studies in the last decade. Technology has mixed impacts on work-life balance, both positive and negative. The positive side of information technology for studying work-life balance is its ability to manage domain boundaries flexibly and simultaneously. It is possible to integrate roles to meet demand between domains quickly without space and time constraints, which leads to work-life balance. The negative side is that the connectivity and constant availability cause high intrusion between domains (work-life). The consequence is an imbalance or paradox between domains. The study employs the meta-narrative reviews method and offers a new variable, ‘Ugahari’, a local value from Nusantara culture, characterised by a moderate working and living attitude. Based on our review, Ugahari can be a boundary control that minimises the negative impact of information technology and improves work-life balance. Thus, this study offers a conceptual framework related to the interaction of these two variables on the concept of work-life balance in terms of dimensions, typology, and consequences. In recent years, progress in digitalisation and foreign direct investment has caused many structural changes, reorganisation in economics, rising productivity, globalisation, and increasing trade or international investment flows, which have led to increased capital flows and information availability. Therefore, this research investigated the impact of digitalisation and foreign direct investment on economic growth in developed countries. Panel data analysis was applied to data of 16 developed countries, from 2006 until 2019. The findings show that digitalisation - presented by mobile cellular and internet users - and foreign direct investment positively impacted economic growth, thus they strongly contribute to advancing the economy and increasing welfare. Therefore, developed countries have been learning about the critical role of technology and capital, as stated by economists over several decades, and developing countries can copy their policies into their own economic strategies. In Indonesia, fiscal decentralisation has been implemented for two decades, and it is expected that the regions will have a sufficient level of independence to increase economic growth and welfare. This study investigates the influence of fiscal decentralisation and human development on regional economic growth. The sample data comprised 484 county-level in Indonesia and utilised the panel data method. The findings showed that the central government grant, locally generated revenue, and human capital development positively influenced regional economic growth, although the degree of decentralisation negatively affected regional growth. Meanwhile, for regions with independence above 50 per cent, decentralisation, locally generated revenue, central government transfer and provincial loans and human capital development positively influenced regional economic growth. In addition, findings also indicated that a dynamic effect exists, implying that the performance of previous regional economic growth influenced current economic achievements. The policy implication of the study is that policymakers cannot equalise policy to boost regional economic growth because every county has its specific characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study examines the effect of financial sector development on macroeconomic volatility in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region for the period 1980–2018 employing the Cross-Sectionally Augmented Autoregressive Distributed Lag (CS-ARDL) model. The empirical findings show that banking variables have a negative and significant effect on growth volatility in the SADC countries. Also, stock market capitalisation, which is a measure of capital market development, was also found to have a negative effect on macroeconomic volatility when looking at the whole financial sector. The results suggest that a well-developed capital market where both the stock market and banking sector are thriving mitigates macroeconomic volatility. The empirical results however reveal that when the stock market is dominant, there is bound to be macroeconomic volatility. The results imply that pursuing the development of the overall financial system reduces macroeconomic volatility in a country as well as the region. An overwhelming increase in household debt in the last decade has stirred researchers to explore the determinants of this phenomena, especially the role of the labor market. This paper comes to identify these determinants using the macro panel data from Asia Pacific countries for 1994–2016 and dynamic heterogeneous panel data analysis. The empirical results found that household consumption, housing price index, and labor force have a long-run positive relationship with household debt. In contrast, the unemployment rate and dependency ratio have a long-run negative relationship with household debt. This implies that when consumption, housing price, and labor force increase, then the household debt will increase, and when the unemployment rate and dependency ratio increase, the household debt will decrease. Also, in the short-run, public debt does affect private consumption, and it is not different among countries. The labor market, as represented by the unemployment rate, dependency ratio, and labor force, has a strong effect on the household debt in the long-run. Based on these findings, the government should pay more attention to the household debt related to property and commodity markets because they expose the short-run volatility and create problems for the long-term. The study analyses the effect of public debt on private consumption. It indirectly tests whether a Ricardian equivalence proposition exists in differentiated financial development for the yearly data of 18 Asia Pacific countries from 1990 to 2017 using dynamic heterogeneous panel data analysis. The results allow concluding that public debt and private consumption have a long-term co-integrated relationship, and in the general approach, Ricardian equivalence does exist in both long and short term. This implies that an increase in public debt does not increase private consumption because consumers expect governments to raise taxes to service debt such as principal and interest payments. But under the traditional approach Ricardian equivalence does not exist, thus, public debt does affect private consumption. In addition, income, capital accumulation, government expenditure, real interest rate and inflation have a positive effect on private consumption. The key implication of these results is that financial development does not provide evidence for the existence of Ricardian equivalence as it does not have a different effect for different countries. The objective of this research is to develop a financial system stability index and analyze the internal and external factors that we expect to affect the stability of the Indonesian financial system. We measured the single model of financial system stability index (FSSI) from year 2004M03 to 2014M09 in Indonesia, and compiled a single quantitative measure based on aggregate internal factors and external factors to capture and predict the shocks of the financial system stability. Stability parameters were composed of composite indicators on different bases. In addition, we developed a comprehensive index component associated with the relevant market conditions, including banking soundness index, financial vulnerability index, and regional economic climate index. Results stated that US economic growth and economic growth of ASEAN countries positively affected financial stability. In addition, current account, exchange rate, inflation, interest rate were shown to negatively affect financial stability. The results of this study imply that internal factors have a strong influence on the financial stability. Therefore, the central bank should give a fast and correct response to the changes of external and internal financial environment, especially for internal factors through monetary policy. This article presents data on occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job performance among male fertility patients. The data were collected from 11 November 2021 until 30 October 2022. A quantitative research approach was employed, involving a questionnaire development and survey. A sample of 309 was selected, using simple random sampling, from the pool of male patients that had undergone seminal fluid analysis (SFA) and received treatment from four private fertility clinics in Malaysia. Respondents were asked to give their consent by signing a consent form, for ethical research purposes. The questionnaire asked respondents about their demographics, sperm quality, occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job performance. This article presents internet and mobile technology (IMT) usage during the pandemic and examines its impact on Malaysian workers' work-life balance. This study also included the Malaysian local value, namely Ugahari, and its role in shaping individual work and personal/family life behavior. The operationalization of variables was developed based on the work-life balance from permeability and flexibility, type of work-life balance consequences, and the theory of planned behavior utilized for local wisdom to characterize the respondents. Data were collected through online surveys and distributed to industries and government agencies in the Urban Area of Malaysia. There are 466 valid and complete questionnaires. This article presents data on digital adoption by enterprises in Malaysian industrial sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data were collected during the periods of Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) from October 11 to December 31, 2020. Data collection was completed through an online questionnaire survey conducted among a sample of 432 enterprises from four industrial sectors, namely services, retail, manufacturing, and tourism, in all states in Malaysia. The sample was selected using cluster and systematic random sampling. The questionnaire asked respondents to state whether they used the Internet, computers, phones, web sites, e-payment, and e-commerce to complete their activities relating to finance, production and operations, human resource management, and marketing. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulation. The data show the extent of digital adoption by Malaysian enterprises during the pandemic in comparison to the situation before the pandemic. Since the launch of the InvestSmart™ initiative in 2014, the government agencies in Malaysia have been actively engaging community and university students via their outreach programs to promote investment literacy. Given this background, the state of the investment literacy of Malaysian undergraduates and their readiness to invest is intriguing. Therefore, this article offers a dataset of Malaysian undergraduates' readiness to invest and the role that investment literacy and social influence play in their readiness to invest. Using a non-probability sampling technique, 500 undergraduate students in Malaysia were engaged to participate voluntarily in this survey. Descriptive statistics are presented in this paper.
