Objective: To describe the clinical and sociodemographic profile and associate them with the quality of life of adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus being followed up in a public hospital in an inner city of the state of São Paulo., Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional, and analytical study, performed with 80 dyads. Data were collected through a clinical/sociodemographic form and a Quality of Life Instrument. For analysis, descriptive statistics were used, and Pearson's Chi-square and Fisher's Exact tests were applied to assess the association between quality of life and clinical/sociodemographic variables., Results: Out of the total participants, the ones who scored high quality of life were mostly, female (52.5%), in the age group 15 to 17 years old (56.3%), 51.3% self-identified as white, and 40.1% were attending high school. In the preoccupation domain, a significant association was found to the time since diagnosis (p=0.035), demonstrating that young adolescents with a longer time of diagnosis had a worse quality of life., Conclusion: The majority of adolescents in this study (51.3%) had been living with diabetes for 10 or more years. It was identified that the duration of the diagnosis has the potential to interfere with the quality of life of these young individuals.

Background: Montrichardia linifera (Arruda) Schott is popularly known as "aninga," "aningaçu," "aningaíba," and "aninga-do-igapó." Compresses and plasters made from the leaves of this medicinal plant are used to treat abscesses, tumors, and pain caused by stingray stings., Aim of the Study: This study aimed to chemically characterize the methanolic extract of M. linifera leaves (MEMLL), as well as to verify their acute oral toxicity and antinociceptive potential., Materials and Methods: The leaves were collected during the rainy season, and the methanolic extract was obtained after gradient extraction using different solvents. MEMLL was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Acute oral toxicity testing followed the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guideline 423. Subsequently, acetic acid, hot plate, and formalin tests were used to evaluate the analgesic effects., Results: In the chemical characterization of MEMLL by HPLC, three flavonoids were identified: rutin, quercetin, and epicatechin. In addition, when NMR spectroscopy was performed, rutin and quercetin were again identified, as well as the chemical compounds luteolin and chrysoeriol. In the acute oral toxicity test, MEMLL showed no physiological or behavioral changes. In the nociceptive study, MEMLL showed an effect at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg in the 0.6% acetic acid test, i.e., 51.46% and 75.08%, respectively. In the hot plate test, the MEMLL group at a dose of 50 mg/kg was effective at times of 30 and 60 min, i.e., 164.43% and 122.95%, respectively. Similarly, the MEMLL group at a dose of 100 mg/kg was also effective in increasing latency at times of 30 and 60 min, i.e., 162.62% and 136.68%, respectively. In the formalin test, MEMLL showed an antinociceptive effect on neurogenic pain at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg when compared to the control group, 35.25% and 52.30%, respectively. In the inflammatory phase, inhibition was observed in the MEMLL at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg, i.e., 66.39% and 72.15%, respectively., Conclusion: MEMLL has analgesic properties and is non-toxic, validating the Brazilian ethnopharmacological use of this plant for pain treatment. Developing a biomimetic material to wound care is an emerging need for the healing process. Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is a polymer with the necessary dressing's requirements often used in medicine. Their surface, physic-chemical and biological properties can be modified by adding bioactive compounds, such as andiroba seed oil ( Carapa guianensis ). This Amazonian natural plant has medicinal and pharmacological properties. For this purpose, PCL polymeric films incorporated with andiroba oil were investigated. The synthesis of hybrids materials was carried out in the solvent casting method. Thermal properties were evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The solvent type on the surface and hydrophilicity of samples was studied using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Additionally, contact angle measurements, functional groups analysis, fluid absorption capacity, and cell viability were performed. The results demonstrated the influences of andiroba oil under the morphology and thermal properties of the polymeric matrix; the hydrophilicity of the hybrid film obtained by acetic acid was reduced by 13%; the porosity decreased as the concentration of oil increased, but its higher thermal stability. The L929 cell line's proliferation was observed in all materials, and it presented nontoxic nature. It was demonstrated the ability of PCL hybrid film as a matrix for cell growth. Then, the materials were proved potential candidates for biomedical applications.

The EF1α is a multifunctional protein with additional unrelated activities to its primary function in translation. This protein is encoded by a multigene family and few studies are still available in plants. Expression of six EF1α genes in Glycine max was performed using RT-qPCR and RNA-seq data to advance in the function of each gene during plant development, stress conditions and phytohormone treatments. A phylogenetic classification in Phaseoleae tribe was used to identify the G. max EF1α genes (EF1α 1a1, 1a2, 1b, 2a, 2b and 3). Three EF1α types (1-3) were found in Phaseoleae revealing duplications in G. max types 1 and 2. EF1α genes were expressed in all studied tissues, however, specific amount of each transcript was detected. In plant development, all EF1α transcripts were generally more expressed in younger tissues, however, in unifoliolate leaves and cotyledons a higher expression occurred in older tissues. Five EF1α genes (except 2a) were up-regulated under stress in a response tissue/stress/cultivar-dependent. EF1α 3 was the most stress-induced gene linked to cultivar stress tolerance mainly in aerial tissues. Auxin, salicylate and ethylene induced differentially the EF1α expression. Overall, this study provides a consistent EF1α classification in Phaseoleae tribe to better understand their functional evolution. The RT-qPCR and RNA-seq EF1α expression profiles were consistent, both exhibiting expression diversification of each gene (spatio-temporal, stress and phytohormone stimuli). Our results point out the EF1α genes, especially EF1α 3, as candidate for developing a useful tool for future G. max breeding.

In this study, we evaluated the psychometric properties of the items to measure the work-family conflict and the time use for personal care and leisure, included in the baseline questionnaire of the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brazil). We evaluated temporal stability (7-14 days) using kappa statistic and the validity of the construct by the correlation of Kendall's tau with other variables. Test-retest stability was discreet to moderate and the correlations were compatible with the underlying theory. Future studies in the context of ELSA-Brazil and in other populations will complement the assessment of its relevance. RESUMO Neste estudo, avaliamos as propriedades psicométricas dos itens para mensurar o conflito trabalho-família e o uso do tempo para cuidado pessoal e lazer, incluídos no questionário da linha de base do Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Adulto (ELSA-Brasil). Foram avaliadas a estabilidade temporal (7-14 dias) utilizando estatística kappa e a validade do construto pela correlação tau de Kendall com outras variáveis. A estabilidade teste-reteste foi discreta a moderada e as correlações, compatíveis com a teoria subjacente. Estudos futuros no contexto do ELSA-Brasil e em outras populações complementarão a avaliação da sua pertinência.
