Abstract This case report presents a detailed analysis of a 31-year-old male patient who presented with a complex array of clinical symptoms, including proteinuria, hematuria, edema, and kidney insufficiency. Despite undergoing multiple tests, the results for anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies yielded negative findings. Subsequently, kidney biopsy pathology revealed a distinct diagnosis of atypical anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease with membrane hyperplasia. Treatment was initiated with a comprehensive approach involving high doses of corticosteroids therapy and cyclophosphamide (CTX). However, contrary to expectations, the patient’s kidney function exhibited rapid deterioration following this therapeutic regimen. The culmination of these complications necessitated a pivotal transition to maintenance hemodialysis. This case underscores the intricate challenges associated with diagnosing and managing rare and atypical presentations of kidney disorders. The negative anti-GBM antibody results and subsequent identification of atypical anti-GBM nephropathy highlight the need for tailored diagnostic strategies to discern subtle nuances within complex clinical scenarios. Additionally, the unexpected response to the treatment regimen emphasizes the potential variability in individual patient responses, underlining the necessity for vigilant monitoring and adaptable treatment strategies. This case report contributes to the evolving understanding of atypical kidney pathologies and the complexities involved in their management.

The reverse circulation down-the-hole air hammer drilling (RC-DTH) method is renowned for its efficiency in hard rock formations and exceptional dust control performance. It presents opportunities for cost-saving, efficiency improvement, energy conservation, and environmental protection. Reverse circulation drill bits are critical components of this method. This study focused on the air reverse circulation regime, investigating various geometric parameters of the RC drill bits through computational and experimental methods to enhance its dust control performance. Results indicate that increasing the layers of suction nozzles, enlarging the diameters of the suction and mixing nozzles, and optimizing the input airflow rate can effectively channel airflow toward the central passage of the drill tool. Consequently, this optimization significantly improves the dust control performance of the RC drill bits. Conversely, increases in the flushing nozzle diameter and alterations in the suction nozzle location have detrimental effects on the dust control capability of the RC drill bits. Field tests were conducted at the Yuan Jiacun iron mine, affiliated with Taiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) CO., LTD. The field tests demonstrate that the optimized RC drill bit exhibits excellent dust performance.

On-orbit absolute radiometric calibration is not only a prerequisite for the quantitative application of optical remote sensing satellite data but also a key step in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of satellite observation data. Due to the diversity of imaging conditions for optical remote sensing satellite sensors, on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration usually requires a large number of imaging tasks and manual labor to calibrate each imaging condition. This seriously limits the timeliness of on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration and is also an urgent problem to be solved in the context of the explosive growth of satellite numbers. Based on this, we propose a general on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration method compatible with multiple imaging conditions. Firstly, we use a large amount of laboratory radiometric calibration data to explore the mathematical relationship between imaging conditions (row transfer time, integration level and gain), radiance, and DN, and successfully build an imaging condition compatibility model. Secondly, we combine the imaging condition compatibility model with cross calibration to achieve a general on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration method. We use cross calibration to obtain the reference radiance and corresponding DN of the target satellites, which calculates the general coefficient by using row transfer time, integration level, and gain, and use the general coefficient to calibrate all imaging conditions. Finally, we use multiple imaging tasks of the JL1GF03D11 satellites to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experiments show that the average relative difference was reduced to 2.79% and the RMSE was reduced to 1.51, compared with the laboratory radiometric calibration method. In addition, we also verify the generality of the proposed method by using 10 satellites of the Jilin-1 GF03D series. The experiment shows that the goodness of fit of the general coefficient is all greater than 95%, and the average relative difference between the reference radiance and the calibrated radiance of the proposed method is 2.46%, with an RMSE of 1.67. To sum up, by using the proposed method, all imaging conditions of optical remote sensing satellite sensor can be calibrated in one imaging task, which greatly improves the timeliness and accuracy of on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration.

Abstract Background Heterogeneity among critically ill patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) treatment could result in high mortality rates. Currently, there are no well-established indicators to help identify patients with a poor prognosis in advance, which limits physicians’ ability to provide personalized treatment. This study aimed to investigate the association of oxygen saturation index (OSI) trajectory phenotypes with intensive care unit (ICU) mortality and ventilation-free days (VFDs) from a dynamic and longitudinal perspective. Methods A group-based trajectory model was used to identify the OSI-trajectory phenotypes. Associations between the OSI-trajectory phenotypes and ICU mortality were analyzed using doubly robust analyses. Then, a predictive model was constructed to distinguish patients with poor prognosis phenotypes. Results Four OSI-trajectory phenotypes were identified in 3378 patients: low-level stable, ascending, descending, and high-level stable. Patients with the high-level stable phenotype had the highest mortality and fewest VFDs. The doubly robust estimation, after adjusting for unbalanced covariates in a model using the XGBoost method for generating propensity scores, revealed that both high-level stable and ascending phenotypes were associated with higher mortality rates (odds ratio [OR]: 1.422, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.246–1.623; OR: 1.097, 95% CI 1.027–1.172, respectively), while the descending phenotype showed similar ICU mortality rates to the low-level stable phenotype (odds ratio [OR] 0.986, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.940–1.035). The predictive model could help identify patients with ascending or high-level stable phenotypes at an early stage (area under the curve [AUC] in the training dataset: 0.851 [0.827–0.875]; AUC in the validation dataset: 0.743 [0.709–0.777]). Conclusions Dynamic OSI-trajectory phenotypes were closely related to the mortality of ICU patients requiring IMV treatment and might be a useful prognostic indicator in critically ill patients.

Magnetic anomaly signal contains rich feature information of targets, which is the basis for target localization and identification. However, the magnetic anomaly generated by the target rapidly attenuates with detection distance, making the weak magnetic anomaly signals of distant targets typically buried in magnetic noise. In view of extracting weak magnetic anomaly signals with a low signal-to-noise ratio, the method of weak magnetic anomaly signal extraction based on ensemble empirical mode decomposition(EEMD) and discrete wavelet transform(DWT) was proposed. Firstly, EEMD was used to decompose the weak magnetic anomaly signal into signal-domain magnetic signal and noise-domain magnetic signal. Then, the approximate coefficient of DWT was used to characterize the characteristics of the low-frequency signal and obtain the low-frequency noise-domain magnetic signal. Finally, the signal-domain magnetic signal was combined with the low-frequency noise-domain magnetic signal to obtain the weak magnetic anomaly signal. In order to validate the effectiveness of this method, simulation experiments and field experiments were carried out. The experimental results show that this method can effectively suppress background magnetic noise and extract weak magnetic anomaly signals of targets. This method can also offer effective data for the localization and identification of distant targets.

The negative stiffness bistable damper (NSBD) was proposed to suppress structural dynamic responses in our previous study. The vibration mitigation performance of the NSBD is influenced by its design parameters, including negative stiffness, cubic stiffness, and damping coefficients. However, it is extremely challenging to directly acquire the ideal design parameters of the NSBD owing to its inherent nonlinearity. To address this disadvantage, the optimal design approach for the NSBD, based on the equivalent linearization method (ELM) and genetic algorithm (GA), is presented in this paper. The nonlinear NSBD system can be transformed to a linear system utilizing the ELM based on the pseudo-excitation method (PEM). The linearization model that corresponds to the nonlinear NSBD is fairly accurate in its approximation and can be indicated from the numerical results. Then, the main structure’s peak response is minimized through the optimization of the design parameters of the NSBD using the H∞ norm and GA. Moreover, the proposed approach’s effectiveness is assessed using the optimal parameters to calculate the displacement responses of a tall building equipped with the NSBD during various seismic excitations. As revealed by the numerical results, the displacement of the tall building can be effectively restrained by the optimized NSBD.

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is considered to have a positive effect on the rehabilitation of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) as an intervention method that matches stimulation frequency to neurogenesis frequency. However, when tACS intervention is delivered to a single target, the current received by brain regions outside the target may be insufficient to trigger neural activity, compromising the effectiveness of stimulation. Therefore, it is worth studying how single-target tACS restores gamma-band activity in the whole hippocampal–prefrontal circuit during rehabilitation. We used Sim4Life software to conduct finite element methods (FEM) on the stimulation parameters to ensure that tACS intervened only in the right hippocampus (rHPC) and did not activate the left hippocampus (lHPC) or prefrontal cortex (PFC). We stimulated the rHPC by tACS for 21 days to improve the memory function of AD mice. We simultaneously recorded local field potentials (LFPs) in the rHP, lHPC and PFC and evaluated the neural rehabilitative effect of tACS stimulation with power spectral density (PSD), cross-frequency coupling (CFC) and Granger causality. Compared to the untreated group, the tACS group exhibited an increase in the Granger causality connection and CFC between the rHPC and PFC, a decrease in those between the lHPC and PFC, and enhanced performance on the Y-maze test. These results suggest that tACS may serve as a noninvasive method for Alzheimer’s disease rehabilitation by ameliorating abnormal gamma oscillation in the hippocampal–prefrontal circuit.

IntroductionAuditory stimulation is one of the most important influence factors in the cognitive process. It is an important guiding role in cognitive motor process. However, previous studies on auditory stimuli mainly focused on the cognitive effects of auditory stimuli on the cortex, while the role of auditory stimuli in motor imagery tasks is still unclear.MethodsIn order to explore the role of auditory stimuli in motor imagery tasks, we studied the EEG power spectrum distribution characteristics, frontal parietal mismatch negative (MMN) wave characteristics, and the Inter trial phase locking consistency (ITPC) characteristics of the prefrontal cognitive cortex and parietal motor cortex. In this study, 18 subjects were hired to complete the motor imagery tasks, induced by auditory stimuli of task related verbs and task independent nouns.ResultsEEG power spectrum analysis showed that the activity of the contralateral motor cortex was significantly increased under the stimulation of verbs, and the amplitude of mismatch negative wave was also significantly increased. ITPC is mainly concentrated in μ, α, and γ bands in the process of motor imagery task guided by the auditory stimulus of verbs, while it is mainly concentrated in the β band under the nouns stimulation. This difference may be due to the impact of auditory cognitive process on motor imagery.DiscussionWe speculate that there may be a more complex mechanism for the effect of auditory stimulation on the inter test phase lock consistency. When the stimulus sound has the corresponding meaning to the motor action, the parietal motor cortex may be more affected by the cognitive prefrontal cortex, thus changing its normal response mode. This mode change is due to the joint action of motor imagination, cognitive and auditory stimuli. This study provides new insight into the neural mechanism of motor imagery task guided by auditory stimuli, and provides more information on the activity characteristics of the brain network in motor imagery task by cognitive auditory stimulation.

Based on the ORNL carbon emission measurement method, the marine fishery carbon emissions of 11 coastal provinces in China were calculated from 2009 to 2018, and by adding factors such as fiscal decentralization and industrial structure, the traditional STIRPAT model was expanded to examine the driving factors of China′s marine fishery carbon emissions. The research results showed that: fiscal decentralization, economic development level, industrial structure and scientific research investment are important driving factors for China′s marine fishery carbon emissions. Among them, due to the imperfect fiscal decentralization system and other reasons, fiscal decentralization has become a positive driving factor for marine fishery carbon emissions. The positive impact of economic development level on marine fishery carbon emissions gradually weakened with the increase of economic development level. Industrial structure and scientific research investment were the negative driving factors of marine fishery carbon emissions. Based on this, the paper proposed to optimize and improve the fiscal decentralization structure and government assessment mechanism, increase scientific research investment, optimize the industrial structure, and promote the low-carbon development of marine fisheries.

Abstract Eucommia ulmoides Oliver is one of the commonly used traditional Chinese medicines for the treatment of osteoporosis, and iridoid glycosides are considered to be its active ingredients against osteoporosis. This study aims to clarify the chemical components and molecular mechanism of iridoid glycosides of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver in the treatment of osteoporosis by integrating network pharmacology and molecular simulations. The active iridoid glycosides and their potential targets were retrieved from text mining as well as Swiss Target Prediction, TargetNet database, and STITCH databases. At the same time, DisGeNET, GeneCards, and Therapeutic Target Database were used to search for the targets associated with osteoporosis. A protein–protein interaction network was built to analyze the interactions between targets. Then, DAVID bioinformatics resources and R 3.6.3 project were used to carry out Gene Ontology enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis. Moreover, interactions between active compounds and potential targets were investigated through molecular docking, molecular dynamic simulation, and binding free energy analysis. The results showed that a total of 12 iridoid glycosides were identified as the active iridoid glycosides of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver in the treatment of osteoporosis. Among them, aucubin, reptoside, geniposide and ajugoside were the core compounds. The enrichment analysis suggested iridoid glycosides of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver prevented osteoporosis mainly through PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway and Estrogen signaling pathway. Molecular docking results indicated that the 12 iridoid glycosides had good binding ability with 25 hub target proteins, which played a critical role in the treatment of osteoporosis. Molecular dynamic and molecular mechanics Poisson–Boltzmann surface area results revealed these compounds showed stable binding to the active sites of the target proteins during the simulations. In conclusion, our research demonstrated that iridoid glycosides of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver in the treatment of osteoporosis involved a multi-component, multi-target and multi-pathway mechanism, which provided new suggestions and theoretical support for treating osteoporosis.

Due to the limitation of the number of sensor pixels, optical splicing is commonly used to improve the imaging width of remote sensing satellites, and this optical stitching can cause vignetting in the image data of adjacent sensors. The weak energy, low signal-to-noise ratio, and poor response stability of vignetting are key factors that restrict the relative radiometric correction of optical splicing remote satellites. This paper proposes a stability analysis method and a relative radiometric correction method for vignetting. First, we analyzed the stability of the response and the noise impact of vignetting. Massive data from the Jilin-1 GF03D satellites was used to analyze the stability of the response using the vignetting stability analysis method. Secondly, the data on the deep sea during nighttime (DDSN) of Jilin-1 GF03D satellites was used to obtain the characteristics of the sensors’ noise. Thirdly, by building a noise drift model, we calculated the coefficient of the noise drift according to its characteristics. Using the coefficient to eliminate the noise drift of each pixel in vignetting can improve the response stability of vignetting. The average response stability increased by 37.64% by this method. Finally, the automatic relative radiometric correction method was completed through histogram matching. Furthermore, we proposed color aberration metrics (CAMs) to evaluate the multi-spectral images after relative radiometric correction, and massive data from the 16 satellites of Jilin-1 GF03D was used to verify the effectiveness and generality. The experimental results show that the average CAM of the images increased by 15.97% using the proposed method compared to the traditional method.

The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has become a major challenge in current clinical treatment. As essential natural molecules involved in innate immunity, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have the potential to break the limits of antibiotic resistance. While AMPs are widely presented in various organisms on this planet, the marine environment is unique in generating a large number of AMPs that exhibit characteristic structures and functions. This review summarizes the structures and mechanisms of action of AMPs derived from invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals in the ocean. The comparison of AMPs from organisms in different habitats demonstrates the preference of Arg (arginine) and Leu (leucine) in marine AMPs, which might be associated with the adaptation to the unique features of bacterial membranes in marine environments. In addition, the potential and applications of marine AMPs for the development of novel antibiotics are also described. These summaries are expected to provide a reference for the development and utilization of marine resources in drug development or aquiculture.

BackgroundThe main manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in patients and animal models is impaired memory function, characterized by amyloid-beta (Aβ) deposition and impairment of gamma oscillations that play an important role in perception and cognitive function. The therapeutic effect of gamma band stimulation in AD mouse models has been reported recently. Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is an emerging non-invasive intervention method, but at present, researchers have not completely understood the intervention effect of tACS. Thus, the intervention mechanism of tACS has not been fully elucidated, and the course of treatment in clinical selection also lacks theoretical support. Based on this issue, we investigated the effect of gamma frequency (40 Hz) tACS at different durations in a mouse model of AD.Materials and methodsWe placed stimulating electrodes on the skull surface of APP/PS1 and wild-type control mice (n = 30 and n = 5, respectively). Among them, 20 APP/PS1 mice were divided into 4 groups to receive 20 min 40 Hz tACS every day for 1–4 weeks. The other 10 APP/PS1 mice were equally divided into two groups to receive sham treatment and no treatment. No intervention was performed in the wild-type control mice. The short-term memory function of the mice was examined by the Y maze. Aβ levels and microglia in the hippocampus were measured by immunofluorescence. Spontaneous electroencephalogram gamma power was calculated by the average period method, and brain connectivity was examined by cross-frequency coupling.ResultsWe found that the long-term treatment groups (21 and 28 days) had decreased hippocampal Aβ levels, increased electroencephalogram spontaneous gamma power, and ultimately improved short-term memory function. The treatment effect of the short-term treatment group (7 days) was not significant. Moreover, the treatment effect of the 14-day treatment group was weaker than that of the 21-day treatment group.ConclusionThese results suggest that long-term gamma-frequency tACS is more effective in treating AD by reducing Aβ load and improving gamma oscillation than short-term gamma-frequency tACS.

Developing efficient and sensitive MOF-based luminescence sensors for bioactive molecule detection is of great significance and remains a challenge. Benefiting from favorable chemical and thermal stability, as well as excellent luminescence performance, a porous Zn(II)Ho(III) heterometallic–organic framework (ZnHoMOF) was selected here as a bifunctional luminescence sensor for the early diagnosis of a toluene exposure biomarker of hippuric acid (HA) through “turn-on” luminescence enhancing response and the daily monitoring of NFT/NFZ antibiotics through “turn-off” quenching effects in aqueous media with high sensitivity, acceptable selectivity, good anti-interference, exceptional recyclability performance, and low detection limits (LODs) of 0.7 ppm for HA, 0.04 ppm for NFT, and 0.05 ppm for NFZ. Moreover, the developed sensor was employed to quantify HA in diluted urine samples and NFT/NFZ in natural river water with satisfactory results. In addition, the sensing mechanisms of ZnHoMOF as a dual-response chemosensor in efficient detection of HA and NFT/NFZ antibiotics were conducted from the view of photo-induced electron transfer (PET), as well as inner filter effects (IFEs), with the help of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and spectral overlap experiments.

Down-the-hole (DTH) hammer drilling with reverse circulation is a novel, mobile, high-speed drilling system suitable for the specific requirements of mine rescue. This technology can be applied to shorten the rescue time during mine accidents. The performance of reverse circulation (RC) drilling depends on the structural design of the drill bit. An orthogonal experimental design is executed to investigate the effect of the structural design parameters of the large-diameter drill bit for drilling rescue wells on the cutting carrying capacity and reverse circulation performance. This study employs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to solve the Navier–Stokes equation for three-dimensional steady flow and calculate the flow field around the drill bit to evaluate the RC efficiency. Six key geometric parameters were proven to have a direct influence on the RC performance, including the diameter of suction nozzles Dn, the length of nozzles L, the quantity of nozzles N, the diameter of the pilot hole Dg, the inclination angle of nozzles θs, and the deflection angle of nozzles θd. The CFD simulation experiments were implemented according to the orthogonal array L18(37) and were analyzed using the range, variance, and regression analysis. A mathematical model was developed for the RC efficiency to understand the effect of the factors. The results show that the diameter of suction nozzles Dn has an essential effect on the RC performance of the drill bit. An ideal combination is Dn = 20 mm, L = 50 mm, N = 3, Dg = 50 mm, and θs = 35°, θd = 10°, which was obtained through variance analysis and validated via CFD simulation for higher efficiency. To verify its real performance, a large-diameter RC drill bit with a diameter of 1.2 m was manufactured and tested in the field. The result demonstrated that the drill bit had excellent cutting transport and reverse circulation performance.

Background and objective Lung cancer is the highest incidence of cancer in the world, which seriously threatens human health. Early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer is particularly important for the survival of lung cancer patients. Serum tumor markers have been widely used as an important method for early diagnosis of tumor. However, there are few early diagnostic markers for lung cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the expression level of Lipocalin-2 and its clinical significance in serum of patients with lung cancer. Methods The serum levels of Lipocalin-2 in 60 lung cancer patients and 63 healthy people were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the relationship between the expression level of Lipocalin-2 and the clinical characteristics of lung cancer was analyzed. Results The expression level of Lipocalin-2 in peripheral blood serum of patients with lung cancer was significantly higher than that of healthy people, and the difference was statistically significant (P

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification is one of the most prevalent RNA modification forms and is an important posttranscriptional mechanism for regulating genes. In previous research, we found that m6A regulator–mediated RNA methylation modification was involved in asthma; however, the specific modified genes are not clear. In this study, we systematically evaluated the transcriptome-wide m6A methylome and m6A-modified genes in asthma. Here, we performed two high-throughput sequencing methods, methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP-seq), and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to identify key genes with m6A modification in asthma. Through difference analysis, we found that 416 methylation peaks were significantly upregulated and 152 methylation peaks were significantly downregulated, and it was mainly distributed in 3′ UTR. Furthermore, compared with the control group, there were 2,505 significantly upregulated genes and 4,715 significantly downregulated genes in the asthma group. Next, through a combined analysis of transcriptome and differential peaks, 14 differentially expressed genes related to RNA methylation modification were screened. Finally, through 87 health controls and 411 asthma cases from the U-BIOPRED (Unbiased Biomarkers for the Prediction of Respiratory Disease Outcomes) program, we verified three m6A-modified key genes (BCL11A, MATK, and CD300A) and found that they were mainly distributed in exons and enriched in 3' UTR. Our findings suggested that intervening in m6A-modified genes may provide a new idea for the treatment of asthma.

Based on the CTD profiles and mooring measurements of the Line W program in the North Atlantic about 35°N/70°W, we investigated the spatial variability of internal wave-induced strain variance along the Line W section and the associated reasons. The results showed that the internal wave strain variance over the slope could be up to five times larger than that in the interior. We have validated that internal tides and near-inertial waves were not the crucial processes for causing this variability. Meanwhile, we found that the high-frequency internal waves generated by the interaction of anticyclonic eddy and low-frequency internal waves may be a potential cause of strain enhancement. This study implies a potential route of mesoscale eddies to enhance the strain variance induced by internal waves.

Linear dampers have been widely applied for suppressing the dynamic responses of structures to mitigate their damage. However, the primary disadvantage of the classical linear damper is that it is vulnerable to detuning, which has become an issue of great importance recently due to a great reduction in vibration control performance. To overcome the shortcoming, this study develops a negative stiffness bistable damper (NSBD) composed of a simple assembly consisting of a bistable buckling beam with a mass. Energy is dissipated through the transformation between the bistable states. The constitutive equation of the NSBD is derived to analyze the effects of the stiffness ratio, the arch-span ratio, and the damping ratio on its restoring capabilities. The vibration reduction effect of the NSBD is experimentally evaluated under different sinusoidal and seismic excitations in shaking table tests. The obtained results reveal that the NSBD can effectively restrain structural displacements.

Poststroke aphasia is one of the most dramatic functional deficits that results from direct damage of focal brain regions and dysfunction of large-scale brain networks. The reconstruction of language function depends on the hierarchical whole-brain dynamic reorganization. However, investigations into the longitudinal neural changes of large-scale brain networks for poststroke aphasia remain scarce. Here we characterize large-scale brain dynamics in left-frontal-stroke aphasia through energy landscape analysis. Using fMRI during an auditory comprehension task, we find that aphasia patients suffer serious whole-brain dynamics perturbation in the acute and subacute stages after stroke, in which the brains were restricted into two major activity patterns. Following spontaneous recovery process, the brain flexibility improved in the chronic stage. Critically, we demonstrated that the abnormal neural dynamics are correlated with the aberrant brain network coordination. Taken together, the energy landscape analysis exhibited that the acute poststroke aphasia has a constrained, low dimensional brain dynamics, which were replaced by less constrained and high dimensional dynamics at chronic aphasia. Our study provides a new perspective to profoundly understand the pathological mechanisms of poststroke aphasia.

The abuse of antibiotics and lack of new antibacterial drugs has led to the emergence of superbugs that raise fears of untreatable infections. The Cathelicidin family of antimicrobial peptide (AMP) with varying antibacterial activities and safety is considered to be a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics. In this study, we investigated a novel Cathelicidin peptide named Hydrostatin-AMP2 from the sea snake Hydrophis cyanocinctus. The peptide was identified based on gene functional annotation of the H. cyanocinctus genome and bioinformatic prediction. Hydrostatin-AMP2 showed excellent antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including standard and clinical Ampicillin-resistant strains. The results of the bacterial killing kinetic assay demonstrated that Hydrostatin-AMP2 had faster antimicrobial action than Ampicillin. Meanwhile, Hydrostatin-AMP2 exhibited significant anti-biofilm activity including inhibition and eradication. It also showed a low propensity to induce resistance as well as low cytotoxicity and hemolytic activity. Notably, Hydrostatin-AMP2 apparently decreased the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the LPS-induced RAW264.7 cell model. To sum up, these findings indicate that Hydrostatin-AMP2 is a potential peptide candidate for the development of new-generation antimicrobial drugs fighting against antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.

Reverse circulation down-the-hole (RC-DTH) air hammers have been widely used in construction and mining activities owing to their high drilling efficiency and good dust control performance. This paper presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach with the dynamic mesh method for evaluating the performance of RC-DTH air hammers. Nine stages of operating conditions of the RC-DTH air hammer are described herein to better understand the operating mechanism of the RC-DTH air hammer. Dynamic layering, sliding interfaces, as well as user-defined functions were employed to update the mesh in dynamic mesh modelling. The influences of rebound coefficient, input air pressure, and piston mass on the performance of RC-DTH air hammers were studied. It was found that increasing the rebound coefficient and input air pressure can improve the impact performance of RC-DTH air hammers, whereas increasing input air pressure can reduce energy efficiency and increase energy consumption. In addition, simulation results indicate that increasing the input air pressure may increase the stroke of the piston; the piston mass should be optimally selected to match the designed geometric parameters to avoid a significant drop in performance. Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) materials are of considerable interest for catalyzing the heterogeneous conversion of CO2 to synthetic fuels. In this regard, 2D siloxene nanosheets, have escaped thorough exploration, despite being composed of earth-abundant elements. Herein we demonstrate the remarkable catalytic activity, selectivity, and stability of a nickel@siloxene nanocomposite; it is found that this promising catalytic performance is highly sensitive to the location of the nickel component, being on either the interior or the exterior of adjacent siloxene nanosheets. Control over the location of nickel is achieved by employing the terminal groups of siloxene and varying the solvent used during its nucleation and growth, which ultimately determines the distinct reaction intermediates and pathways for the catalytic CO2 methanation. Significantly, a CO2 methanation rate of 100 mmol gNi−1 h−1 is achieved with over 90% selectivity when nickel resides specifically between the sheets of siloxene.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can improve cognitive function. However, it is not clear how high-definition tDCS (HD-tDCS) regulates the cognitive function and its neural mechanism, especially in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This study aimed to examine whether HD-tDCS can modulate cognitive function in individuals with MCI and to determine whether the potential variety is related to spontaneous brain activity changes recorded by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Forty-three individuals with MCI were randomly assigned to receive either 10 HD-tDCS sessions or 10 sham sessions to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC). The fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) and the regional homogeneity (ReHo) was computed using rs-fMRI data from all participants. The results showed that the fALFF and ReHo values changed in multiple areas following HD-tDCS. Brain regions with significant decreases in fALFF values include the Insula R, Precuneus R, Thalamus L, and Parietal Sup R, while the Temporal Inf R, Fusiform L, Occipital Sup L, Calcarine R, and Angular R showed significantly increased in their fALFF values. The brain regions with significant increases in ReHo values include the Temporal Inf R, Putamen L, Frontal Mid L, Precentral R, Frontal Sup Medial L, Frontal Sup R, and Precentral L. We found that HD-tDCS can alter the intensity and synchrony of brain activity, and our results indicate that fALFF and ReHo analysis are sensitive indicators for the detection of HD-tDCS during spontaneous brain activity. Interestingly, HD-tDCS increases the ReHo values of multiple brain regions, which may be related to the underlying mechanism of its clinical effects, these may also be related to a potential compensation mechanism involving the mobilization of more regions to complete a function following a functional decline.

In shaft construction, conducting shaft drilling and pregrouting simultaneously is expected to speed up the sinking rate and save the cost. Reasonable determination of the spatial locations of the drilled shaft and grouting holes and proper defining of the start time of each construction work are the crucial techniques. To smoothly execute the simultaneous operations, the bedrock to be grouted is divided into two sections. The upper bedrock is injected first using straight grouting holes to act as a tight cover to protect shaft drilling. Then, the lower formations are grouted using S-shaped grouting holes, which are performed simultaneously with shaft drilling. The construction time of simultaneous operations of pregrouting for the lower bedrock using S-shaped holes and shaft drilling is the saved time. The main technical challenges include the stability of grouting holes and safety of shaft walls, as well as the disposal of the contaminative waste drilling mud. The stability of grouting holes which might affect by the shaft drilling-induced ground vibration could be evaluated according to the penetration of ground vibration caused by TBM tunnelling. If the grouting hole is in the range of ground vibration, protective measures including casing and ground improvement should be utilized to ensure the stability of grouting holes. The stability of unlined walls of the drilled shaft caused by the increased groundwater pressure can be achieved by a tight cover between the drilled shaft and pregrouting holes. The thickness of the cover is actually the length of the straight holes. The cover should have sufficient thickness and impermeability, which can considerably reduce or even completely stop the increased groundwater pressure in vicinity of the drilled shaft. The thickness and permeability of the cover could be determined using Maag’s solution for penetration of grouts in porous media. On the other hand, the waste drilling mud with proper modifications can be reutilized to prepare clay-cement-like grouts, which could provide an eco-friendly and cheap solution to harmlessly treat the huge volume of waste drilling mud. The properties of waste drilling mud and behaviors of grouts prepared using the waste mud should be experimentally investigated before reutilization, owing to uncertainties of geology in various cases. The construction time using the simultaneous operation method is just about 60% of that of the traditional excavation method, and the low value of measured residual water inflow shows the reliability of reusing the waste drilling mud as grouting materials. The proposed method could virtually improve the shaft sinking rate and save the construction cost. The principles developed for these technical challenges have been proved to be applicable in practices, which are believed to strongly support the applicability of this new method in other cases.

Lung cancer related death is the most common cause of cancer death worldwide. Non-coding RNA has no protein coding capacity, but can play roles in a variety of biology. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is at least 200 nt long. A variety of lncRNAs could promote or inhibit tumor development and progression in many tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Due to their fundamental role in regulating gene expression, they involve in biological mechanism of the tumor, and so they are expected to be new cancer biomarkers. In this review, we emphasized the roles of lncRNAs in NSCLC, and discuss them as diagnostic and prognostic markers and as therapeutic targets.

A three-dimensional nickel nitride with reduced graphene oxide composite on nickel foam (s-X, where s represents Ni3N/rGO@NF and the annealing temperature X can be 320, 350, or 380) electrode has been fabricated through a facile method. We demonstrate that s-350 has excellent urea oxidation reaction (UOR) activity, with a demanded potential of 1.342 V to reach 10 mA/cm2 and bears high hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. It provides a low overpotential of 124 mV at 10 mA/cm2, which enables the successful construction of its two-electrode alkaline electrolyzer (s-350||s-350) for water−urea splitting. It merely requires a voltage of 1.518 V to obtain 100 mA/cm2 and is 0.145 V lower than that of pure water splitting. This noble metal-free bifunctional electrode is regarded as an inexpensive and effective water−urea electrolysis assisted hydrogen production technology, which is commercially viable.

The damping properties of glass windows have a great influence on the comfort of the occupants, especially for buildings that are close to a vibration source, such as rail tracks. With the increasing popularity of light rails in cities, there is a strong need to retrofit existing glass windows to improve their damping properties, and increase the occupants’ comfort. In this paper, a new method of retrofitting existing glass windows for vibration reduction was developed using viscoelastic treatment. The key component of the retrofit was a self-adhesive glass constrained viscoelastic strip (SaGCVS), consisting of a thin glass constraining layer, a viscoelastic layer, and an adhesive layer. The SaGCVSs can be easily bonded onto an existing glass panel near its edge in an effort to improve its inherent damping properties, and to reduce its vibration when subjected to external excitations. The method is simple, and the proposed viscoelastic strip is easy to install. Experiments were carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. For the vibration measurements, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) patches were mounted onto the four corners and the center of the window glass panel. Comparative studies were performed, and the results clearly showed that the vibration of the window glass panel was reduced, revealing the effectiveness of the proposed retrofitting method for improvement in the damping properties of existing window structures.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS:Sanqi ginseng (Panax notoginseng) growth is often hampered by replant failure. In this study, we aimed to examine the role of autotoxicity in Sanqi replant failures and assess the role of ginsenosides in autotoxicity. METHODS:The autotoxicities were measured using seedling emergence bioassays and root cell vigor staining. The ginsenosides in the roots, soils, and root exudates were identified with HPLC-MS. RESULTS:The seedling emergence and survival rate decreased significantly with the continuous number of planting years from one to three years. The root exudates, root extracts, and extracts from consecutively cultivated soils also showed significant autotoxicity against seedling emergence and growth. Ginsenosides, including R1, Rg1, Re, Rb1, Rb3, Rg2, and Rd, were identified in the roots and consecutively cultivated soil. The ginsenosides, Rg1, Re, Rg2, and Rd, were identified in the root exudates. Furthermore, the ginsenosides, R1, Rg1, Re, Rg2, and Rd, caused autotoxicity against seedling emergence and growth and root cell vigor at a concentration of 1.0 µg/mL. CONCLUSION:Our results demonstrated that autotoxicity results in replant failure of Sanqi ginseng. While Sanqi ginseng consecutively cultivated, some ginsenosides can accumulate in rhizosphere soils through root exudates or root decomposition, which impedes seedling emergence and growth.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C10H8N2)3][Mo6O19], consists of one complex [(Ni(C10H8N2)3]2+ cation and one Lindqvist-type [Mo6O19]2− polyanion. The Ni2+ ion is in a distorted octahedral coordination by six N atoms from three chelating 2,2′-bipyridine ligands. The Lindqvist-type anion exhibits the characteristic Mo—O bond-length distribution, with the shortest bonds being the Mo—O(terminal) bonds [mean = 1.679 (2) Å] and the longest being those to the central O atom [mean = 2.318 (7) Å]. A number of C—H...O interactions contribute to the crystal packing.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Co2(C2O4)(C10H8N2)4][W6O19], consists of one half of the complex [Co2(C2O4)(C10H8N2)4]2+ cation and one half of the Lindqvist-type [W6O19]2− isopolyanion. Both constituents are completed by crystallographic inversion symmetry. In the dimeric cation, the CoII atom is surrounded in a distorted octahedral coordination by four N atoms from two chelating 2,2′-bipyridine ligands and by two O atoms from the chelating oxalate anion. The Lindqvist-type anion exhibits the characteristic W—O bond-length distribution, with the shortest bonds being the W—Oterminal bonds and the longest being those to the central O atom.

We investigate interaction between an anticyclonic eddy (AE) and semidiurnal internal tide (SIT) on the continental slope of the northeastern South China Sea (SCS), using a high spatiotemporal resolution numerical model. Two key findings are as follows. First, the AE promotes energy conversion from low-mode to higher-mode SIT; additionally, production terms indicate that the energy is also transferred from the SIT field to the eddy field at an average rate of -3.0 mW m-2. Second, the AE can modify the spatial distribution of tidal-induced dissipation by both refracting and reflecting low-mode SIT. The phase and group velocities of the SIT are significantly influenced by the eddy field, resulting in a shift of the internal tidal rays to the north or south. These findings deepen our understanding of complex interactions between AE and SIT and of their impacts on energy conversion, wave propagation, and coastal processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sleep plays a role in maintaining our physical well-being. However, sleep-related issues impact millions of people globally. Accurate monitoring of sleep is vital for identifying and addressing these problems. While traditional methods like polysomnography (PSG) are commonly used in settings, they may not fully capture natural sleep patterns at home. Moreover, PSG equipment can disrupt sleep quality. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of sensors for sleep monitoring. These lightweight sensors can be easily integrated into textiles or wearable devices using technology. The flexible sensors can be designed for skin contact to offer continuous monitoring without being obtrusive in a home environment. This review presents an overview of the advancements made in flexible sensors for tracking body movements during sleep, which focus on their principles, mechanisms, and strategies for improved flexibility, practical applications, and future trends.

The accurate and effective reliability prediction of light emitting diode (LED) drivers has emerged as a key issue in LED applications. However, previous studies have mainly focused on the reliability of electrolytic capacitors or other single components while ignoring circuit topology. In this study, universal generating function (UGF) and physics of failure (PoF) are integrated to predict the reliability of LED drivers. Utilizing PoF, lifetime data for each component are obtained. A system reliability model with multi-phase is established, and system reliability can be predicted using UGF. Illustrated by a two-channel LED driver, the beneficial effects of capacitors and MOSFETs for the reliability of LED drivers is verified. This study (i) provides a universal numerical approach to predict the lifetime of LED drivers considering circuit topology, (ii) enhances the modelling and reliability evaluation of circuits, and (iii) bridges the gap between component and circuit system levels. Abstract It is challenging to match the mutual interactions between implant and host because the biomaterials usually cannot actively adjust their performance to the changing microenvironment. Surface potential is one of the critical factors affecting the bioactivity of biomaterials, but it is difficult to be directly controlled in vivo. Magnetic stimulation has attracted much attention due to its deep penetrability, good reliability, and convenient operability. Here, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes and Terfenol‐D/P(VDF‐TrFE) composite film are prepared by anodic oxidation and solution casting methods on opposite sides of a titanium sheet, respectively. Terfenol‐D magnetostrictive microparticles deform under a magnetic field, generating surface potential on the P(VDF‐TrFE) piezoelectric matrix through magneto‐electric coupling. Correspondingly, equal opposite charges are induced on the surface of TiO2 nanotubes. Stem cells cultured on TiO2 nanotubes show that cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation abilities can be regulated by magnetic strength, which correlates with the absorption of charged proteins. Therefore, a cascade coupling of magnetic, mechanical, electric, biochemical, and cellular effects is established. This work demonstrates the feasibility of regulating the bioactivity of biomaterials in vivo through a magnetic field.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to (1) examine the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between depressive symptoms and health services utilization among Chinese middle-aged and older adults; and (2) evaluate whether there exists a rural–urban difference in such relationships. Methods Data was obtained from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2013 and 2015, a nationally representative survey of 13,551 adults aged 45 years and above in China. Results Depressive symptoms were positively associated with a greater likelihood of outpatient and inpatient health services utilization. This association was consistent across rural and urban settings, indicating the robustness of such findings across geographic areas. Conclusions Findings indicate that depressive symptoms are significantly associated with both in-patient and out-patient health service utilization among Chinese adults. Screening for depressive symptoms needs to be incorporated in these care settings in China.

Abstract Background Ewing sarcoma, the second most frequent bone tumor in children and adolescents, is often presented with localized disease or metastatic-related symptoms. In this study, we aim to construct and validate a nomogram for patients with Ewing sarcoma to predict the 3- and 5-year overall survival (OS) based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Methods Demographic and clinic pathological characteristics of patients with Ewing sarcoma diagnosed between 2010 and 2015 were extracted from SEER database. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were carried out to identify the independent characteristics. The independent factors were further included into the construction of a nomogram. Finally, c-index and calibration curves were used to validate the nomogram. Results A total of 578 patients were enrolled into our analysis. The results of univariate Cox analysis showed that age, 7th AJCC stage, 7th AJCC T stage, 7th AJCC N stage, 7th AJCC M stage, metastatic status to lung, liver and bone were significant factors. Multivariate Cox analysis was performed and it confirmed age, N stage and bone metastasis as independent variables. Next, a nomogram was constructed using these independent variables in prediction to the 3- and 5-year OS. Furthermore, favorable results with c-indexes (0.757 in training set and 0.697 in validation set) and calibration curves closer to ideal curves indicated the accurate predictive ability of this nomogram. Conclusions The individualized nomogram demonstrated a good ability in prognostic prediction for patients with Ewing sarcoma.

Abstract Conductive polymers (CPs) are generally insoluble, and developing hydrophilic CPs is significant to broaden the applications of CPs. In this work, a mussel-inspired strategy was proposed to construct hydrophilic CP nanoparticles (CP NPs), while endowing the CP NPs with redox activity and biocompatibility. This is a universal strategy applicable for a series of CPs, including polyaniline, polypyrrole, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene). The catechol/quinone contained sulfonated lignin (LS) was doped into various CPs to form CP/LS NPs with hydrophilicity, conductivity, and redox activity. These CP/LS NPs were used as versatile nanofillers to prepare the conductive hydrogels with long-term adhesiveness. The CP/LS NPs-incorporated hydrogels have a good conductivity because of the uniform distribution of the hydrophilic NPs in the hydrogel network, forming a well-connected electric path. The hydrogel exhibits long-term adhesiveness, which is attributed to the mussel-inspired dynamic redox balance of catechol/quinone groups on the CP/LS NPs. This conductive and adhesive hydrogel shows good electroactivity and biocompatibility and therefore has broad applications in electrostimulation of tissue regeneration and implantable bioelectronics.

Data aggregation is a fundamental and efficient algorithm to reduce the communication overhead and energy consumption in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, WSNs need both energy-efficient and privacy-preserving when being deployed in an unprotected area. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient and privacy-preserving data aggregation algorithm CBDA (the chain-based data aggregation). In the CBDA, sensor nodes will be organized as a tree topology. The leaf nodes of the tree sequentially reconnect with each other to form many chain topologies. For assuring data privacy, after data gathering, (1) the tail nodes (the nodes which on the tail of chain) need to slice their sensing data into J fragments. One fragment is kept by themselves, and they distribute the J -1 data fragments to their neighbor nodes. (2) Each tail node will inject some fake fragments into its J -1 fragments to interfere with adversaries. The CBDA can achieve less energy consumption and higher aggregation accuracy during data aggregation. We perform a comprehensive simulation to make a comparison among the CBDA with existing algorithms. The experimental results demonstrate that the CBDA outperforms the existing algorithms.

BackgroundRenal cancer (RC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the urinary system, and molecular targets for the specific diagnosis and treatment of RC have been widely explored. The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze circular RNAs (circRNAs), which may serve as novel tumor markers in terms of the diagnosis, prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics of RC.MethodsPubMed and Web of Science were systematically searched for literature as up to July 30, 2021. All included studies were evaluated by the evaluation system, and the results were satisfactory. Hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) were used to assess the association of circRNAs with diagnostic and clinicopathological indicators. The sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE), positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were combined to evaluate the diagnostic performance of circRNAs in RC.ResultsWe included 22 studies that met the criteria, including 18 that were prognostic, 4 that were diagnostic, and 12 that were clinicopathologically relevant. In terms of prognosis, we found that upregulated circRNAs were positively associated with poor overall survival in patients with RC (HR=1.63, 95% CI=1.43–1.85). In terms of diagnosis, the combined SEN, SPE and AUC of circRNAs in the diagnosis of RC were 0.82, 0.84 and 0.89 (0.86–0.91), respectively. In terms of clinicopathological features, upregulated circRNAs were associated with the Fuhrman grade (OR=0.641, 95% CI=0.471–0.873), T stage (OR=0.236, 95% CI=0.141–0.396), TNM stage (OR=0.225, 95% CI=0.158–0.321) and lymphatic metastasis (OR=0.329, 95% CI=0.193–0.560).ConclusionOur meta-analysis confirms that circRNAs may be candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis, prognosis, and clinicopathological indicators of RC.

Biomimetic catechol-based adhesives have attracted significant interest but can lose adhesion due to excessive oxidation. Here, the authors report on the addition of silver-Lignin nanoparticles as a dynamic catechol redox system to maintain catechol/quinone balance, making a reusable, antibacterial bioadhesive.

Solvothermal reactions of the semirigid 3,5-bi(4-carboxyphenoxy)benzoic acid (H3BCP) and transitional metal cations with the help of three ancillary bridging imidazole linkers afforded six coordination polymers, namely, [Co(HBCP)(1,4-bib)0.5]n (1), {[Mn1.5(BCP)(1,4-bib)0.5(╛2-H2O)(H2O)2]·(1,4-bib)0.5}n (2), {[Mn0.5(1,4-bib)(H2O)]·(H2BCP)}n (3), {[Fe(BCP)0.5(HCOO)0.5(4,4'-bibp)0.5]·2H2O}n (4), [Ni2.5(HBCP)(BCP) (4,4'-bibp)2(╛2-H2O)(H2O)2]n (5), and [Ni(HBCP)(1,4-bidb)1.5(H2O)2]n (6), (1,4-bib = 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-4-yl)benzene, 1,4-bidb = 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene, 4,4'-bibp = 4,4'-bis(imidazol-1-yl)-biphenyl). Their structures and properties were determined by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses, IR spectra, elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Complex 1 displays unusual 2D + 2D → 2D parallel entangled networks consisting of (3,4)-connected 3,4L83 sheets. Complex 2 exhibits an interesting 2-fold interpenetrated framework with a trinodal (4,4,6)-connected (3·4·5·6²·7)2(3·6·74)2(3²·4²·5²·6²·76·9) topology. The host network of complex 3 is a 2D 4-connected (44·6²)-sql sheet. Complex 4 affords unprecedented 3D (4,6,6)-coordinated framework with point symbol of (45·6)(48·67)(49·6³·8³)2, in which the 1D helix water chains occupy the void channels. Complex 5 can be regarded as a novel self-penetrating (4,4,4,5)-coordinated framework with point symbol of (4·54·6)2(4·65·7·8³)2(5·6·7·8³)2(5²·8³·9²), which contains two interpenetrated (3,4,4,5)-coordinated (4·54·6)2(4·65·7·8³)2(5·6·7)2(5²·8³·9²) subnets linked by ╛2-H2O. Complex 6 shows a 1D ladder chain, which are further assembled into a 3D supramolecular structure via O-H···O and π···π interactions. Four new coordination polymers (CPs), {[H2N(CH3)2]2[Ln2(BPT)(ox)2]}n (Ln = Er for 1, Yb for 2, and Sm for 3; H2ox = oxalic acid) and {[Gd(HDCP)(H2O)]⋅H2O}n (4), have been constructed from Ln ions and two aromatic tetracarboxylate acids (H4BPT = 3,3',5,5'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, H4DPT = 4,5-di(4'-carboxylphenyl)phthalic acid) under solvothermal reactions through the linker extension strategy. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. Complexes 1-3 are isomorphous and exhibit an unprecedented (6,8)-connected 3D architecture with a point symbol of (3³⋅410⋅57⋅6²⋅76)(3³⋅46⋅56)2, which is built up from right- and left-handed [Ln(ox)]n helixes. Complex 4 shows a 3D (4,8)-connected flu net with (412⋅612⋅84)(46)2 topology based on 1D [Gd(COO)2]n ladder chains. Moreover, their luminescence properties have been investigated.
