BackgroundThe last decade has witnessed many achievements in China’s health care industry, but the industry still faces major challenges among which the uneven distribution of medical resources and the imbalance between supply and demand are the most pressing problems. Although mobile health (mHealth) services play a significant role in mitigating problems associated with health care delivery, their adoption rates have been low. ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to explore the impact of resource scarcity and resource accessibility on the adoption of mHealth from the perspective of resource competition, to examine the concerning factors, and to provide a theoretical basis for promoting mHealth in China. MethodsWe used 229,516 original registration records of outpatients to conduct an empirical analysis to examine the adoption of mHealth services from the perspective of resource competition. ResultsThe adoption rate of mobile services for outpatients was low, accounting for only 31.5% (N=71,707). The empirical results indicated that resource scarcity (beta=.435, P=.01) and accessibility (beta=−.134, P=.02) have a significant impact on the adoption of mHealth. Website localization plays an important role in guiding firms on how to customize websites across countries in which they have a local presence. However, few studies on website localization have systematically examined this topic from a theoretically grounded perspective. Drawing upon the theoretically driven consumer-company identification perspective, we propose that three website localization strategies (web similarity strategy, web distinctiveness strategy, and web prestige strategy) have positive effects on local users' perceived website localization, which, in turn, is related to local users' website loyalty. We further investigate the effects of these website localization strategies in a cross- cultural setting, focusing on the individualism-collectivism dimension of culture. Based on our online experiments in both the United States and China, we find that these website localization strategies have significant impacts on consumers' perceived website localization, which is related to consumers' website loyalty. We also find that web distinctiveness and web prestige strategies are more effective for people from collectivistic societies than for those from individualistic societies, whereas web similarity strategies do not differ across societal types. Reporting systems are gradually gaining attention as a mechanism for users to engage in platform content governance, such as reporting problematic content in terms of misinformation or misbehaviors. However, there is little research on how a reporting system can be effectively designed to facilitate users' reports. This study presents a model that is grounded in structural empowerment theory and the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework to bridge this gap and considers the embedded reporting system on social media as a mechanism to empower users to participate in reporting problematic content. Using a two-stage survey and a partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), the authors find that three empowerment structures of the reporting system (i.e. information transparency, tool usability, and platform reporting support) stimulate users' reporting self-efficacy through unequal pathways and then promote users' engagement in reporting platform content. The contribution of this paper is that it explores the application of structural empowerment theory in empowering user reporting on social media platforms, explains the relationship between the three empowerment structures, and then provides a reference to content governance practices for the platform owner and other stakeholders. Decoupling economic growth and carbon emissions is essential for sustainable growth. However, the impact of ICT agglomeration, especially its long-term impact on decoupling, has received little attention. Drawing on the Tapio decoupling model and dynamic decoupling path theory, this study examines the short-term and long-term effects of ICT agglomeration on decoupling by using a panel data set for 257 cities in China from 2003 to 2017. The results show that most cities are in a state of weak decoupling (253/257) and on an intensive dynamic decoupling path (192/257). Our empirical analyses confirm that ICT agglomeration negatively impacts the short-term decoupling trend but positively impacts the long-term decoupling path. The mediating mechanism analysis indicates that ICT agglomeration affects decoupling by driving ICT infrastructure investment, promoting green technology innovation, and stimulating consumption of ICT equipment.
