This article adheres to UN guidelines concerning the Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) which aim to improve the lives of the older population. The objective of this study is to show how social dance with artistic-scenic purposes for a socially vulnerable group of older adults (third and fourth age) contributes to active ageing from social and health perspectives. The sample comes from a social group for the over-60s years and forms part of an artistic-community project in which participant observation has been carried out for five years. To obtain more data from the sample group, an "ad hoc" measurement instrument is developed based on a specific literature review on the topic. The results show that dance, group, and stage performance are a vital driver for members. The analysis shows that individual perspectives are higher than group perspectives. The research provides evidence that social dance groups improve motor expressiveness, stimulate the ability to think, memorize and create, among other aspects.

This article describes the author's experience as a specialist working at a nature-based sleepaway camp for children and their families in Antalya Geyikbayiri. The camp was organized by a psychotherapist and three expert instructors to enhance the connections between parents and children, other children and parents present, and with the natural world, enabling everyone to gain different perspectives. The workshops are diverse and include activities such as nature discovery walks, awareness activities in nature, music sessions, philosophy workshops, movement exercises, circus arts, creative arts, storytelling, and rock climbing. With the support of natural settings throughout the different philosophy workshops, the participants gain insights into their perspectives on specific subjects, recognize beliefs accepted without much contemplation, understand their thought patterns, identify contradictions, and explore the possibilities of thinking differently. Their opinions may evolve, becoming clearer, more uncertain, or even changing altogether through interacting with other participants, the examples and counterexamples they provide, and the questions posed by the instructors and participants.

The aim of this paper was to examine the influence of picturebooks on children's "physical literacy" (PL). Fostering PL in early childhood can promote a physically active lifestyle in children and later adults. Picturebook use is a great opportunity for movement exploration in physical education classes, and recent research findings suggest that the joint use of read-aloud picturebooks and movement activities can enhance children's motor, cognitive, and affective development. Thus, following the research evidence and the emerging importance of PL, in this paper we provide suggestions and support for the effective use of picturebooks as a tool to cultivate PL in early childhood.

There are calls for developing ways to teach language that can inspire and motivate students to study additional languages. While previous research has pointed toward benefits of arts-based activities in language learning, combining language and dance has mainly been studied with younger language learners. Contextualized within the course "Dance with language," this study explores spoken word choreographies--word- and movement-based choreographies--that combine dance and the learning of Swedish as an additional language at a Finnish upper secondary school. The study engages with new materialist theories to understand languaging as an activity and relational, embodied, and material processes. Using diffractive analysis with comics-based research strategies, the analysis suggests that languaging-and-dancing become entangled through four doings: exploring, re-working, co-creating, and negotiating-and-switching. The spoken word choreographies offer a potentially valuable way to teach language in their move beyond students' potential restrictions of vocabulary, structure, and grammar in the language to emphasize playfulness and creative explorations as part of language-learning processes. In conclusion, the study proposes that dancing and spoken word, and the combination thereof, bring specific qualities to creating smooth languaging spaces that embrace wild, playful, creative, and unpredictable forces and movements in language-learning practices.

Access to high-quality early music education programs may mitigate the effects of poverty on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, but fundamental questions remain about the role of early educators in conveying these benefits. In the current study, we measured the basal or resting cortisol levels of 76 children (M[subscript age] = 4.17 years; 42% female) over the course of the school day while they attended a Head Start preschool that included early music education classes. The results of a series of hierarchical linear models (HLMs) indicated that child-directed music and movement activities during these classes were associated with lower levels of cortisol (relative to teacher-directed activities; B = -0.019, p = 0.013), as were higher quality teacher-child interactions (B = -0.018, p = 0.013); both associations were moderated by child age. We discuss the implications of these results for future educational neuroscience research that seeks to inform early education programs for young children placed at risk by poverty.

This article aims to provide practical strategies and examples for pre-service early education programs and early education teachers to develop music- and movement-based curricula for teacher preparation programs and early childhood music classrooms. To address the inconsistencies in early childhood music programs, the authors developed the Lighthouse Framework, which utilizes constructivist ideology to help students learn through and adapt the teaching model while simultaneously learning music- and movement-based content. Through this proposed framework, pre-service teachers can gain authentic teaching experience, real-time feedback, and an adaptable framework for their future curriculum planning.

The beauty of the sound is not only due to advanced singing voice but also depends on breathing techniques. This paper aims to study knowledge about the physiology of breathing and singing, including the effectiveness of conscious control in vocal training and innovative technologies. The authors used observation methods to achieve this goal. They developed mechanisms to set breathing that promote singing using modern technology. As a result, the authors identified the following indicators: body coordination, diaphragmatic respiratory training, inhalation and exhalation training, mixed respiratory training, as well as coordination of the vocal apparatus. Videos, Sing Sharp, Prana Breath, Erol Singer's Studio, and SwiftScales served as tools to provide instruction. The results showed that body coordination and mixed respiratory training significantly influence the sound's naturalness. The singing purity results from body coordination and the vocal apparatus. The study involved two groups of students: Group 1 included vocalists who studied according to the proposed technique; Group 2 united amateur performers. A specific efficiency and quality of singing characterized the performance of the students from Group 1 when playing folk (83%) and popular compositions (77%). The results showed that the students of Group 2 generally received average scores for the performance of folk (54%) and popular (53%) compositions. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of developing a singing voice with the help of breathing and modern technology.

Environmental characteristics of kindergartens are important for the development of kindergarten-aged children. However, knowledge of the role of kindergarten play environments in developing children's fundamental movement skills is limited. A pilot study was carried out to compare the fundamental movement skills of 3.5- to 5-year-old children in two kindergarten groups. One group had access to a traditional playground, an indoor room for active play, and had weekly trips. The other group had access to a nature-based playground. Fundamental movement skills were measured using the short form of the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, second edition test. In total, 28 children participated--11 children attended the kindergarten group with the traditional playground, and 17 children attended the kindergarten group with the nature-based playground. The total test score was 14.64 for children with access to a traditional playground and 16.71 for children with access to a nature-based playground. However, no statistically significant difference between the groups in total test score and the individual tests was found. It might be that space and diversity of features are more important than exposure to nature. In future research, more robust longitudinal studies with larger samples are required to investigate different kindergarten playground designs and environmental features related to motor skill development.

Dance is an essential cultural product often overlooked in curriculum and lesson design in favor of sports, literature, visual arts, music, and other products from the target language culture. Given the similarities between the national standards for dance and for learning languages, movement and dance activities merit a greater role in world language classes. The author, a high school Spanish teacher and professional dancer, presents a continuum of approaches for incorporating movement-based activities into the classroom and describes specific activities that teachers can adapt for their classes, even without formal dance training or professional dance experience.

Soft skills enable the individual to successfully face the problems and challenges of a complex society in flux and under constant uncertainty. Music, in its different forms of expression, is here introduced as an ideal tool for the development of intrapersonal and action skills such as adaptability, optimism and proactivity. In this paper we analyse a case study regarding a project carried out by and for future teachers. Our data collection methods included questionnaires, observations, student productions and interviews. The results reveal that music can be a mediating element for the development of soft skills. Specifically, it has been observed that music can help the individual to face and effectively resolve changing and novel situations that require self-efficacy, self-confidence and social support. Music can also improve the physical and socio-emotional well-being of individuals as well as helping them successfully face adversity.

This research aims to determine the impact of "Galah Asin" games with parental support on the fundamental movement skills of elementary school students. The sampling technique by dividing the population into two groups: a group that used the Galah Asin game (group I) and a group that used a modified Galah Asin game (group II) in the test of the level of support from the student's parents in carrying out movement activities. Based on test results, each group was ranked, and then 27% from the top were taken as a group with high parental support and 27% from the bottom as a group with low parental support. The method employed in this research was an experimental method with a 2x2 ANOVA design. Based on the results, the modification of the Galah Asin game has no better impact than the Galah Asin game on fundamental movement skills in elementary school students. There is an interaction between the Galah Asin game and parental support of fundamental movement skills in elementary school students. Students with high parental support do not have a better impact on fundamental movement skills than students with low parental support in elementary school students. Galah Asin game modifications have a better impact than Galah Asin games on fundamental movement skills for students with high parental support in elementary school.

We explore the multifaceted role of elementary school teachers in implementing classroom-based Movement Integration (MI) to promote physical activity among children. While many factors and barriers can influence the successful execution of MI activities, understanding the nature and use of MI video resources remains unexplored. Therefore, we focus on exploring elementary school teachers' MI practices and their engagement with MI in order to identify teachers' different typologies. The research involved a mixed-methods design, predominantly qualitative, with teachers from a specific demographic. We identified three distinct teacher typologies: High-Engagement Providers (HEPs), Strategic Providers (SPs), and Reluctant Providers (RPs). The HEPs were highly engaged, incorporating multiple MI activities daily and effectively managing student behavior and motivation. Conversely, SPs acknowledged classroom management issues but attributed successful MI implementation to students' self-control and effective routines. However, RPs expressed reservations due to management challenges and potential distractions from academic tasks. Regardless of typology, all teachers accentuated the need for professional development opportunities to improve MI practices. We recommend providing training and support to enhance teacher self-efficacy in implementing MI and addressing challenges. Even though limitations exist regarding participant demographics, our study offers an initial in-depth exploration of teachers' MI implementation and may pioneer future studies.

Background: Scholars have suggested that students' views of what is important for them to know as Physical Education (PE) teachers are a result of what is assessed in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE). Thus, there is a risk that students will reproduce content areas such as sports and assess sport-techniques without much critical consideration. In this study, however, the risk of reproducing what is prioritised in PETE is seen as an opportunity regarding the potential reproduction of other content areas than sports. Based on the regulative principles of PE and PETE that privilege sport skills and hinder creative movement learning, we focus on a content area in PETE that provides opportunities for students to engage in creative collaboration and examine how this content area is realised in school PE. Hence, we have chosen to explore 'Movement Composition', a content area which has a long tradition at one of the PETE universities in Sweden. Based on an overarching interest in whether and how PETE matters, this exploratory study focuses on the potential transferability of Movement Composition as a particular content area in the transition from PETE to PE. Purpose and research question: The purpose of this study is to explore Movement Composition as a content area undergoing the transition from PETE to school PE. The research question is: How is the pedagogic discourse of Movement Composition constructed, recontextualised and realised in the transition from PETE to school PE? Methods: Data was generated through an interview with one of the initiators of Movement Composition. Stimulated Recall interviews and Zoom interviews were also conducted with a group of five PETE students and three experienced PE teachers. In addition, documents such as the study guide, course literature, and written assignments associated with Movement Composition in the PETE programme were included in the empirical material. In the analysis, the combination of Bernstein's pedagogic device and the Swedish didactics of PE research tradition was used to identify the pedagogic discourse of Movement Composition in the transition from PETE to school PE. Findings: The findings show how the pedagogic discourse of Movement Composition as a content area is "constructed," "recontextualised" and "realised" in the transition from PETE to school PE. The construction of Movement Composition as a pedagogic discourse in PETE is about how the content area (the "what") is selected and organised for pedagogical purposes. The recontextualisation of Movement Composition is about how the pedagogic discourse is interpreted and translated in relation to the PE syllabus. The realisation of Movement Composition involves how the content area in PETE is implemented in PE practice. Conclusions: This exploratory study has shown that what is articulated as a relevant content area and the way it is taught, learned, and assessed in PETE in many regards survives the transition to school PE. The transition from PETE to school PE does not only involve reproduction of sports and sport-techniques from one context to another. PETE also contributes to the use of creative, collaborative, and student-centred learning tasks in school PE.

Arnold's dimensions of movement (1979) and Wilcox's embodied ways of knowing (2009) informed case study research which explored the influence of gender(ed) movement-based pedagogy and associated equity issues in Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Physical Education (PE). VCE PE teachers from three schools provided documentation (course, unit, lesson plans, resources, assessment materials) and semi-structured interviews to investigate how teachers used movement and the role gender plays in influencing decisions and approaches relating to movement-based pedagogy. Gender discourses were evident in teachers' decisions regarding the types of movement experiences included in VCE PE, pedagogical approaches and assessment contexts. Issues of safety were linked to gendered assumptions about learners. Movement is a central tenet of senior secondary PE, yet movement-based pedagogy needs to be more responsive to the needs of all students to ensure equity in students' movement and learning experiences and to positively reflect gender diversity of student cohorts.

Peer assessment has been proven to improve learning for both the observer and the observed. One dimension of peer assessment that has been given little attention in the context of physical education teacher education (PETE) is the tension that exists when peers give feedback on each other's work. In this paper, we report on Swedish preservice teachers' (PST) views on peer assessment used in PETE school placements. Our findings reveal four mechanisms of peer assessment assigned value in PETE: (i) building social relations, (ii) making 'what to learn' visible, (iii) giving correct feedback, and (iv) handling sensitive and gendered comments. Inspired by Bourdieu, we discuss learning potentials and complex challenges with peer assessment, where the combination of social capital and physical capital decides what is possible to say and to whom when peer assessment is used in the PETE school placement and in school physical education (PE).

This study investigates 10th-grade students' experiences with physical education (PE) units informed by a pedagogical model called the practising model (PM). We apply a theoretical framework that integrates core concepts from phenomenology with empirical investigations of experience by focusing on structures of human existence, such as embodiment, intentionality, intersubjectivity, affectivity, and temporality. Based on qualitative data from observations of 21 PE sessions, 22 student interviews, and the students' diaries, we discuss three key findings: First, we look into the relational aspect of practising and discuss how three levels of intersubjectivity - primary, secondary, and narrative - affect students' experiences. Second, we investigate the bodily aspect of practising by discussing how a dialectic orientation between deliberation, conscious reflections, and embodied actions led to a creative and awakened goal-directedness that nurtured future-oriented and meaningful repetitions. This supported the development of new movement capabilities and helped students discover new ways of experiencing meaning in movement landscapes. Lastly, we address the emotional aspects of practising, where we found that affective modes such as excitement, joy, and uncertainty worked as affordances that provided direction and meaning. Uncertainty turned out to be the essential mode to handle for both students and the teacher. Agency, just right challenges, in-depth reflections, creativity, problem-solving strategies, felt progress, and active repetitions over time emerged as crucial components for keeping uncertainty within the productive span. In short, the findings from this study qualify our knowledge of the experience of practising and throw new light on the process in which educative and meaningful experiences can grow from the practising of capabilities.

The present study addresses the impact of multimodal complexity in the transmission of a dance exercise. This study examined what kind of temporal correspondence favors the clarity of a teaching instruction in the context of a dance class. From an autoethnographic perspective, we describe a real learning situation in which a teacher marks (bodily demonstration and verbal counting) a movement exercise for a dancer. We analyze (microanalysis) the components of this marking, considering the model of the visual spatial indicator and the zero velocity and the prosodic components of the voice. It was hypothesized that when the emphasis of the movement and the emphasis of the voice are synchronized in phase this favors the clarity of the instruction. Seventy-five participants - dancers; musicians; non-musicians-non-dancers - evaluated dance exercises (audiovisual clips) with different modes of synchronization between voice and movement following two testing strategies. We found that in-phase exercise markings are significantly easier to follow and understand than when they are not. The work aims to show that a neglect in the multimodal organization of the instruction can generate distortion (noise) between the conceptualization and the perception of the message, putting at risk the result of the communication.

Background: Physical education (PE) teachers in practically all countries are expected to help their students develop movement capability. To achieve this objective, teachers need certain knowledge and competencies. The question of how PE teachers should develop their capacities to achieve this task has received only limited research attention. Aim: The broad objective of this paper is to contribute to the literature on how PE teachers can develop knowledge and competencies in the area of movement capability related to students' learning. The specific aim is to identify aspects of the design of instruction in physical education that enhance teachers' actor-oriented transfer of movement pedagogy knowledge, during a collaborative professional development intervention. Method: The study is an analysis of three conducted learning studies in PE at upper secondary schools in Sweden. The studies involved seven PE teachers from two different schools. Our empirical material consists of (a) notes from team meetings (n = 14), (b) lesson plans (n = 9), (c) video-recorded and transcribed lessons (n = 9), and (d) results of students' learning outcomes (n = 9). Findings: PE teachers' analysis of their own teaching sequences in teams supported their actor-oriented transfer of movement pedagogy knowledge, which developed their abilities to further elaborate their instruction in new teaching situations. Moreover, teachers gained insights into how to further develop the quality of instructional design as expansions of earlier experiences. Lastly, a relationship between PE teachers' actor-oriented transfer and students' increased learning of movements was found. Conclusion: Our conclusion is that collaborative professional development for PE teachers, which supports actor-oriented transfer, should be offered to enhance teachers' movement pedagogy knowledge.

This article is based on ethnographic research conducted in one of the physical training institutions that offer the Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies (LBMS) certification program in 2021. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the training was held in a hybrid format in which some participants were in the studio while others were attending remotely via Zoom. Zoom-mediated movement training for long hours revealed how the intervention of telematic technologies challenged practitioners' sensorial experience and sense-making process. Moreover, bringing co-located and remote participants' experiences together in the hybrid setting disclosed different modes of interaction dynamics in the studio and online. Overall, participants described their hybrid experience as a clash. In the article, starting from unfolding those clashes from the enactive perspective, I discuss how remote intercorporeality through an audio-video streaming system, Zoom, challenges participants' sensorial experience and how remote interaction affects the shared sense-making process in the hybrid format setting.

Teaching Odissi in the university space is not new to me. However, as a dancer-scholar located in India, teaching this dance form in a university in the United States expanded and deepened my understanding of this dance form and the ways it can be taught. This encounter, a collision of cultures, beliefs, and movement practices in the dance studio, engendered a pedagogical process that revealed itself as I taught this class over two semesters. The design of the class discussed in this article emerged from an intersection of my own training in Odissi with my guru and the institutional requirements of the program. This paper unpacks my pedagogical process of creating a syllabus, adopting teaching strategies, and assessing student work for negotiating the cultural chasm between me and my students, hoping to generate a sense of critical questioning, mutual curiosity, and respect.

The purpose of this insight article is to explore the relevance and value of some of Bruce Lee's ideas that influenced his coaching philosophy, (re)viewed through the lens of contemporary discussions in movement skill acquisition. To achieve this aim, we highlight empirical and anecdotal examples of many of the important concepts that support Bruce Lee's interpretation of martial arts, "Jeet Kune Do" (JKD). We contend that Lee's approach to coaching and skill refinement was deeply aligned with ideas that underpin an "ecological dynamics" framework. Central to the philosophy of Bruce Lee and JKD is the need for coaches, practitioners, and athletes to embrace and express more water-like adaptability throughout their practice. Examining the various, nuanced insights of Bruce Lee, we can observe many practical lessons which have stood the test of time, remaining highly applicable to athletes of today seeking to move skillfully in sports.

The teaching and creative movement course incorporates details of physical movements most suitable to be conducted face-to-face. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably changed pedagogical methodologies, forcing this course to be conducted online via the medium of technology. Therefore, this paper explains the challenges and advantages of the synchronous and asynchronous video conferencing mixed strategies in the teaching and creative movement course. The setting in this research is a semester of the teaching and learning conducted at a university in Malaysia using the Google Meet application and video. The factors of resources and technological capability as well as the psychological factor that is related to social activity hinder the full advantage of video conferencing and technological usage in this course. The researcher also pointed out the security and safety problem experienced by one of our students to get internet access from a remote area, and the need to consider individual student home situations before sending them to learn from home. The identification of strengths and weaknesses faced by this course will enable further efforts in improving the quality of online dance education which incorporate the use of technology to obtain maximum results, especially for developing countries such as Malaysia.

This study investigates opportunities for and challenges faced by Chinese dance and movement educators at the higher education level in the United States, drawing from interviews with seven influential Chinese dance and movement academics. The article probes the boundaries of what is considered Chinese dance in the US context, including Chinese interdisciplinary "xiqu" (often mistranslated as Chinese opera) and martial arts. Background information gathered from US dance and theater departments indicates the lack of Chinese dance and movement courses overall and describes the common formats for including these forms in higher education curricula. The interview discussion highlights the navigation involved in teaching Chinese dance and movement in the United States via four major categories: Institutional, Curricular, Pedagogical, and Cultural issues.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the Second Issue of our Double Special Edition on LGBTQIA+ Topics in Health, Wellbeing and Education. This special issue focuses on LGBTQIA+ Topics in Sport, Human Movement and Education. We introduce the issue by outlining the debate about the 'inclusivity' of queer bodies in sport. We then introduce each article and explain how they fit into these larger debates in sport and education. We conclude the paper by outlining key takeaways from the issue. We also provide recommendations for future LGBTQIA+ research in sport, human movement and education.

Background: Beginning with a proposition that physical education (PE) and early childhood education (ECE) build affinities through shared developmental interests, this article works the gaps made possible when PE meets with ECE in unfamiliar ways. Through a shared investment in the normalizing and minoritizing functions of child development, how and why PE collides with ECE often hierarchizes particular knowledges, practices, and relations that typically foster instrumental and technical educational approaches to understanding children's movement that align with settler colonial, Euro-Western conceptions of bodied individualism, responsibility, and regulation. These status-quo alliances of PE with ECE manifest in children's movement guidelines and leave little room for local, responsive invention with children. This article asks what becomes within the spaces where PE and ECE collide otherwise -- where we do not already know what can be made in the proximities of these two bodies of knowledge and instead attend to moments where, in everyday meetings of PE and ECE, we create unfamiliar pedagogical possibilities for moving with children. Purpose and Method: I detail one concept found in the literature where PE meets ECE: awkwardness. I re-encounter awkwardness through blog posts co-written by early childhood educator co-researchers and the researcher during "Moving Pedagogies," a pedagogical inquiry project where early childhood educators and preschool-aged children investigated how to walk slowly while disrupting walking as primarily a mode of exercise. Then, alongside Manning's ([2014]. "Wondering the World Directly -- or, how Movement Outruns the Subject." "Body & Society" 20 (3-4): 162-188.) 'precarious equilibrium', awkwardness is engaged through its contradictions and troubles toward nourishing our imperfect work to move otherwise with PE and ECE. Conclusions: Resisting the urge to articulate an overarching model for PE and ECE to intersect going forward, this article brings to the foreground moments where PE and ECE meet and fail and where what we thought we knew about PE and ECE crumbles. It proposes that with situated, enduring threads of PE and ECE we might co-create with children locally meaningful possibilities for moving together. The article concludes with a vital question for PE and ECE practitioners, educators, and researchers to grapple with: how do we do moving with children with local collisions of PE, ECE, bodies, knowledges, inheritances, and lively more-than-human others, where to move is to take the risk of inventively enmeshing our collective movements within the hopeful, messy, and disorienting ethical and political entanglements that compose complex contemporary worlds?

Background: Female learning of movement in elite combat sports has not been studied enough to date. Literature on movement learning and teaching of complex skills has not, to date, focused on karate, and the scarce literature on the learning of elite karate practitioners mostly does not focus on women. Nevertheless, women fighters participated in karate as an Olympic sport, even if such status was temporary, limited to Tokyo 2020 (2021). Purpose: In an analogy with Iris Marion Young's (1980) publication 'throwing like a girl', our aim in this study was to investigate what it means to learn 'to fight like a "girl"' and if there is a feminine learned fighting style. Methods: We have carried out an ethnographic project focusing, due to the unexpected impact of COVID-19, mainly on interviewing the female Spanish karate team in preparation for the Olympic Games. We interviewed 14 women athletes of the team and their four male coaches twice each and analysed 28 videos of women athletes displaying their best athletic performances, according to themselves. In this article we are focusing on the analysis of 20 videos of the "kumite" modality, then reflecting on this analysis with data from interviews of the four coaches and ten of the athletes, the "kumite" athletes. We developed a series of criteria in order to carry out the task of observation and analysis of the gendered martial-sportive movement supported by the literature, coaches' perspectives and athletes' views. The main concepts derived from the video analysis were the "use of space, restricted movements; absence of melee work; and difficulty in carrying out projections/sweeps. kumite kumite use of space, restricted movements absence of melee work difficulty in carrying out projections/sweeps." Findings: Sports karate is still configured as a (hetero)normative environment, supported in tradition, be that of martial art with its pedagogy and of sport as a male preserve. This context leads to a view of women's learning to perform as inferior to men's, perpetually comparing them, in the hierarchical structure established within the field. Concepts of equality and equity are undermined, and by performing differently, or not matching the male model, women have their performance of some complex movements qualified as a "natural inability." Conclusion: We conclude that there is a feminine way of learning to fight, but only with generalized characteristics since there is a rich plurality of styles among these elite sporting women. For the field, to fight like a "girl" means inferior performance in comparison with men's performance, however, for us, it means really 'to fight', not just on the mat, and we see such comparison as untenable.

This work aimed to outline the first stages for the development of a pedagogical model for teaching-learning of expressive content within physical education (creative body movement). Drawing on several suggestions from previous models' conceptualizations, we explore and present the theoretical foundations, practical considerations, and assumptions that align and support their core features. The major theme of the model is that students explore new expressive movements and develop capabilities through expressive games or tasks that nurture their creativity and ease their embodied movements. This implies that teachers should provide students with several resources and stimuli to nurture their creativity. Also, teachers should promote students' embodiment through the exploration of new movements that allow knowing themselves in different movement situations. The affective and cognitive domains will be prominent in this model. The teachers' and students' assumptions, implementation needs, and enactment about how to apply this model are also proposed.

The SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards have long been the foundation for best practices in quality physical education. Following the 10-year cycle for revising the standards, a task force with diverse professional backgrounds convened to update the National Standards with special consideration for stakeholders who will be impacted by these changes--most notably, K-12 students. This article presents an overview of the new standards, outlining the changes and highlighting new features, including the move from five to four standards, the reconceptualization of physical literacy, and the shift to grade-span learning indicators with learning progressions. A unique feature of this overview is the inclusion of testimonials from practitioners explaining the new standards' benefits, effectiveness, and implementation, while emphasizing a holistic approach to physical education.

Batting or striking with a long-handled implement is an important fundamental motor skill used in several lifetime activities. This article outlines basic movement concepts that are developed through batting and provides recommendations that can serve as both curricular options for physical education and a potential homework idea for kids to explore at home.

A semistructured preschool motor program was developed in response to the paucity of evidence-based motor programs for preschoolers with disabilities in inclusive classrooms. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was undertaken to examine the impact of the "CHildren in Action: Motor Program for PreschoolerS (CHAMPPS)," a 21-week intervention that includes 42 Universal Design for Learning--embedded lessons with suggestions for supporting school readiness skills. Eight intervention and 8 control classrooms across 2 states participated in the RCT. Data on 51 children with disabilities provide initial evidence on how "CHAMPPS" positively impacted children's active engagement, motor, and social development. The promising results include gains in motor skills, sustained physical activity levels during motor play, increased on-task behavior, and high feasibility and usability ratings by teachers. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.

With intentional adult guidance, all children have opportunities to learn new skills across developmental domains during motor play. We collected and analyzed 501 written responses from 16 preschool teachers regarding their perceptions of intervention outcomes across domains, based on their observations during the CHildren in Action: Motor Program for PreschoolerS (CHAMPPS) intervention. This 21-week class-wide, semi-structured motor program was implemented in eight inclusive preschool classrooms. The findings reveal that teachers noticed many positive changes in children's social, communication, and pre-academic skills as well as their approaches to learning during the months when they implemented the CHAMPPS program. In addition to sharing data from this qualitative analysis, we discuss: (a) the value of motor interventions and purposefully embedding learning opportunities across developmental domains for young children with and without disabilities, and (b) the benefits of gathering end-users' perspectives as we collaborate with them to implement new interventions.

Ensemble Thinking (ET) is a toolkit of movement scores developed by dance-maker Nina Martin in the 1980s in New York City. The scores of ET arose out of a confluence of Martin's choreographic and improvisational performance practices. The impetus for developing ET was to develop a technical language for creating and discussing improvised dance. The scores of ET relate to the temporal and spatial relationships of the dancers on stage and allow for clarity amidst the potential complexity of improvised dance. This essay focuses on the group of scores known as 3/2, a set of movement scores that examine the variables of level, spatial location, facing, contact, and stillness within a group of five dancers.

There has been a continuous focus on developing quality physical education (PE) experiences that empower students to understand movement and engage in physical activity. This article describes a pedagogical approach that was developed to assist the PE student in understanding more about their own and others' physical activity capacities. This new instructional approach, which is grounded in scientific methods, is called the Informed Learner in Physical Education (ILPE). The ILPE was developed to provide teachers with a pedagogical approach to facilitate meaningful learning and empower students within PE with the overarching goal of students becoming "informed learners of and about movement and physical activity." Within the ILPE there are four features: (1) Activity Context and Educational Focus, (2) Inquiry Question, (3) Investigation, and (4) Evaluation and Articulation of Findings. These features and teacher considerations are discussed to assist PE teachers in the design and implementation of an ILPE experience.

Research suggests that providing children with activities that involve using their bodies to form the shapes of letters can help them acquire pre-reading skills. Little is known, however, as to the extent to which such embodied learning interventions are superior to more traditional pencil-and-paper activities, which of specific arm or body movements are most effective, and whether this approach compensates or exacerbates the learning gap between high- and low-skilled pre-readers. Using a preregistered randomized-controlled experiment (N = 160 kindergarten students, M = 5.18 years, 54% girls), the present study assessed the educational effects of 6-week-long training sessions with increasing degrees of bodily movement integration (pencil-and-paper training vs. arm training vs. arm-body training) on five measures of letter knowledge and script. Aligning with theories of embodied cognition and cognitive load in instructional designs, results showed that integrating arm movement exercises into handwriting training bore the greatest acquisitions in pre-reading skills overall and were most beneficial to students with initially low pre-reading skills (compensatory effect against learning inequalities). Implications are drawn on the need to consolidate and replicate present findings, while highlighting their potential for supporting educational effectiveness and equity in kindergarten.

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the importance of physical training in e-sports. Today, with the development of technology, people have become sedentary and even carried the sports in their lives to the virtual world. E-sports is a good example of this subject. It is necessary to find an answer to the question of how this situation can be made healthier, taking into account the harm that may occur in terms of health, although it is a sport performed in the virtual environment and on the computer. At this point, the subject that should be emphasized is movement education and physical education. Physical and mental training is crucial important for e-sports players to continue their careers without losing their health. In this case, besides the technical training of the athletes, it is necessary to give importance to their mental and physical training and to add educational programs on awareness of health and performance. Articles about the requirements of e-sports, physiological and mental reflections of e-sports, negative and positive effects of e-sports on players' health, physical training, movement education and e-sports have been researched and compiled, and the importance of physical training in terms of e-sports has revealed. E-sports is a virtual competition between people and electronic games. In recent years, as the rapid development of technology and the place of digitalization in human life have increased, electronic games have taken their place in the world of sports and the number of both players and spectators has grown exponentially. This situation has created anxiety in terms of the health of the society, which is becoming more and more inactive with each passing day. In this case, the focus is to answer the question of how it can be made healthier for both the e-sports player and the society. At this point, we meet the concepts of movement training and physical training emerge. The inclusion of physical training in e-sports training and its regular implementation has critical importance.

The research aims to determine the effect of movement and game-based music education on the musical (exercising dynamics, playing the body, singing) skills of students with moderate intellectual disability. Within the framework of this purpose, it was aimed to improve the musical dynamics application skills, body playing skills and singing skills of students with special needs. In the study, the inter-behavioral multiple probe model, which is one of the single-subject experimental designs, was used. A student affected by moderate intellectual disability participated in the study. The findings showed that the effects of Movement and Play Based (MPBME) music education on the musical dynamics practice skills, body playing skills and singing skills of students with moderate intellectual disability were statistically significant and positive. He has shown that he has developed his skills and that he can demonstrate these skills with different applications and that his skills continue.

This research aims to develop a model of floor gymnastics learning and rhythmic activities with the TPSR approach. The subjects of this study were students of grades 1, 2, 3 of State Elementary School 01 Sampangan Gajah Mungkur District of Semarang City and SDN Srondol Kulon 02, with a total of 76 students. The development research design has used the procedure of investigating the needs followed by developing the information, developing the product design, validation tests, and trials to the product. The results show that the traditional game "Ride the Train" is considered appropriate and effective as a learning model which consists of the objectives, the roles, the characters, the provisions, and the regulations following school conditions and situations. The results of the skill the assessment showed that all students were able to get grades with increased distribution, according to statistical tests, showing a count of -22,477, and p-value of 0.000 or less than 0.05. The conclusion is a significant difference in learning outcomes after being given this game model. The game using the TPSR method approach can explore the ability of gymnastic and rhythmic activities through locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulate the student's movements.

From the class of 2018 to 2020, researchers found several weaknesses faced by physical education (PE) teachers in elementary schools in developing active learning. One of the very basic weaknesses is the low creativity and innovation of teachers in developing basic movement skills and character values with a play approach, and in this case, playing is made in the form of games that suit the needs of students. Teachers tend to use existing forms of play such as baseball, soccer, volleyball, and basketball, even though these games are not compatible with elementary school children's growth and development level. The purpose of research and development of learning variations of PE in sports and health based on a play approach is expected to develop basic movement abilities and character values of elementary school students. The research method used is Borg and Gall's research and development. The subjects of this study were 4th-grade elementary school students and four teachers at UPT Percut Sei Tuan. The research instrument uses a rating scale so that the variation of PE learning based on the play approach is suitable for improving elementary school students' basic techniques and character values.

In this student reading, I use examples from dance technique classes to bring attention to the choices that students make when learning new movement via observation and repetition. Based on these examples, I frame learning in technique class not as a process of imitation but a process of translation. In doing so I hope to advocate for the intellectual practices and opportunities for student agency embedded in dance technique learning.

This 'teaching tip' shares the success of a service-learning opportunity created to work with university students in a meaningful way in the community. It describes a program called Fit 4 Tots that resulted in more toddlers, university students and community members benefiting from learning and movement experiences.

Embodied Learning (EL) technologies are now used in educational research as an emerging technology that has the potential to influence the function of the brain to drive learning, especially by integrating the physical body into the learning process. This research examines EL in different learning contexts and circumstances to see how it can improve the overall performance of students in real classroom settings. The study consists of four sequential phases that use data collection and analysis to explore the impact of EL on actual classroom practice. A total of 211 elementary students (n = 211) and 21 primary teachers (n = 21) participated in the study. Applying a multiphase mixed-methods approach, the study focuses on investigating how EL impacts student performance in real learning environments within different elementary classrooms, including Special Education (SE) and General Education (GE) contexts. Results reveal significant gains in students' cognitive performance, motor skills, and academic performance in language. Results also show improvements in students' emotional state, resulting in increased students' motivation to participate in the learning process. Overall, this four-year investigation provides a comprehensive understanding of how EL approaches can be integrated into real classrooms, allowing researchers and teachers to enrich their existing practices, taking into account the benefits of including the movement in their teaching and research.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Greek traditional dance programme on sensorimotor synchronization (SMS) and reaction time on primary school children (6.41 ± 0.41 yr.). We randomly assigned 61 children to either the dance group (31 children, 15 boys, 16 girls, 6.42 ± 0.40 yr.), who took part in a dance programme of 12 lessons (3 times/week), or the control group (30 children, 16 boys, 14 girls, 6.40 ± 0.42 yr.). Before and after the intervention, we assessed both groups for SMS (walking in synchrony to 80 and 120 beats/min) and reaction time. Two-way ANOVA repeated measures show that the dance group performed significantly better on SMS compared to the control group at 80 beats/min (BPM), but not at 120 BPM. We discuss the results in relation to spontaneous motor tempo and the information-processing theory. In relation to reaction time, no significant difference was observed between the two groups at the end of the intervention. However, the dance group showed a significant improvement between pre- and post-tests. It may be concluded that a dance programme of 12 lessons constitutes an effective and enjoyable activity for the improvement of young children's sensorimotor synchronization at 80 BPM and perhaps reaction time.

Art and movement are motivating forces in, through, and beyond education. As populations age, there is an increasing need to support physical and social well-being. Yet, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a reported exponential increase in feelings of loneliness across generations. Complex challenges require trans-disciplinary solutions, and this paper represents a joint effort within and across disciplines, communities and cultures to find ways to ameliorate this silent epidemic. In this paper, we propose a cross-disciplinary conceptual framework where Aboriginal Artists and Knowledge Holders, Teacher Educators, and Physical and Occupational Therapists come together to explore theoretical and pedagogical insights that encompass intergenerational art-moving-well-being practices, reducing feelings of loneliness and improving social connections across generations. There are two main aims of this paper; first, to better understand current studies that report on integrating art-moving-well-being practices, and the effect this has on health and well-being of intergenerational participants (under 10-year-olds, 20+ year olds and 50+ year olds). Second, based on community needs, the long-term aim is to propose a flexible art-moving-well-being conceptual model that is scalable, sustainable and based on social and relational support systems. We propose a model that is flexible and adaptable within and across our local community and beyond. We argue that feelings of loneliness are unique to each individual, and there is a need to connect specific intergenerational programmes with art-moving-well-being practices that readily engage and integrate varied communities and cultures in sustainable ways and thus, contribute to thriving communities.

As a result of educational reforms in many countries, including Finland, new or renovated comprehensive schools have increasingly begun to incorporate open and flexible designs and principles. Multipurpose and adaptable open learning spaces can provide children with amplified opportunities to be physically active during general education. Classroom-based physical activity has been associated with better academic-related outcomes and students' on-task behaviour, while overall physical activity has been associated with better health. In the present study, we investigated the effects of classroom type, gender and grade level on classroom-based physical activity, and the associations between systematically-observed teachers' instructions about students' movement and classroom-based physical activity. The participants consisted of 182 3rd and 5th grade students in one school with open learning space and two schools with conventional classrooms. Overall, classroom-based physical activity, assessed with accelerometery, was not higher in open learning space than in conventional classrooms. However, 5th grade students had more sedentary time and less moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in open learning spaces than conventional classrooms, but both 3rd and 5th graders had more breaks from sedentary time in open learning spaces than conventional classrooms. Girls were more sedentary than boys, while 5th graders were less physically active than 3rd graders. Teachers' instructions regarding 5th graders' movement in open learning spaces were more restrictive and both 3rd and 5th graders had more instructed transitions in open learning spaces. In conventional classrooms, students had more teacher-organised physical activity. Teachers' restrictive guidance was associated with less light physical activity, while teachers' organised physical activity was associated with more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

This compilation is made to discuss physical education concepts, applications and teachers and their places in education systems in the world and Turkey. In the developing and changing world, movement education, sports and physical activity have become a part of human life. The effort to act in a more qualified way has always found its place in both daily life and education. Movement, physical education, and gymnastics activities within the education system that started in 17th century Europe and spread to the world will continue to search for direction. Today, when digitalization is constantly revising human life, it emerges as a result of revising the quality problem of physical education teachers. It may be suggested to train physical education and sports teachers who have gained competence by integrating mechanical muscular skills with metacognitive skills.

Purpose: Music class should function as a class that triggers joy and a platform for students to express their feelings. Based on observation, there are music teachers who teach singing and the playing of musical instruments based traditionally on a teacher-centered approach. This has caused music classes to become passive and dull, with unexcited students that would cause them to lose focus in the class. The purpose of this research is to investigate the application of rhythmic movements, using one of the components from Dalcroze's Eurhythmics as an activity to develop active and fun music classes, hence to improve students' music performance skills. Methodology: The study was carried out within the framework of a ten-week action-research design involving 35 primary school students at Putrajaya, Malaysia. Data collection was through group observation on students' musical behaviours. Researchers also conducted an in-depth interview with rhythmic movement experts. Findings: Result shows that there is a significant change of musical behaviours among primary students from week 8 to week 10. Experts agree that rhythmic movement can create a meaningful music class with the active participation of students. Three rhythmic procedures have been recommended by the experts to strengthen a music class pedagogy. Significance: Learning music through movements has turned music classes into active and fun places. Rhythmic movement activity has made music lessons to become more meaningful. This study has helped students to explore music through movements, creating an environment in which they have the chance to play, communicate with each other, learn through observation and express their creativity in their own way. This intervention helps students to grasp almost all the music concepts while doing activities. This study has also provided ideas for teachers to integrate rhythmic movements into the music instructional process.

The following article looks at the role movement and sensorial stimuli do play in the educational approaches of Dr. Maria Montessori and Dr. Emmi Pikler as well as the Sensorial Integration and Psychomotor Therapy. The author of this paper has been studying, applying, and teaching all four approaches for many years and used her expertise in all four approaches to look at whether independent scientific research proves the effectiveness of movement and sensorial stimuli for reaching therapeutic as well as educational goals and to also provide scientific evidence for the fact that all four approaches focus on the role of these two factors, which means that this is a comparative study utilizing existing research papers. The methods of applying movement and sensorial stimuli in the four approaches mentioned above are being compared and linked to recent scientific findings concerning the role of movement and sensorial stimuli for the efficacy of education and therapy. This article compares the four approaches based on scientific research on the various methods as well as independent research which looks and the impact of movement and sensorial stimuli as well as a method of application and its effectiveness. It has been found that sensorial stimulation and movement are closely connected and that these play a major role in all four approaches although the methods of application are quite different. One example might be that the Montessori method purposefully teaches specific movements in specific ways while only Sensory integration therapy also utilizes passive movement as a sensorial stimulation. All four approaches rely on the self-motivation of the child and do not apply any kind of pressure.

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of inclusive play and special movement education applied to disadvantaged and peer preschool children in Erzurum city center on their basic skills. 22 students (10 disadvantaged children + 12 peer group children) consisting of disadvantaged children and peer children who were educated in special education and rehabilitation centers in the city center of Erzurum and participated voluntarily. Before the study, two seminars were given to the parents of the students, which determined the purpose and objective of the research. Students participated in a specially prepared game and movement training program for 45-60 minutes, 2 days a week during the summer period. Before starting the research, an interview and observation form consisting of 10 questions was prepared for the parents of the children and the results were recorded. At the end of the 2-month (8-week) period, interviews and observations were made with the parents of the children, and the last situation was recorded and compared with the previous situation. In the first parent interviews, the results of the research; it was observed that the children hesitated to participate in the study, they do not want to get close to other children, refrain from sharing game materials and avoid playing together and do not help. While they stated that they did not comply with the game discipline, they stated that at the end of the study program, their initial negative behavior developed completely in a positive way. In expert observations; it was observed that at the beginning, the children did not want to participate in the studies, did not listen to the volunteers, acted randomly, fought over the play materials used, and avoided playing together. While they observed that they behaved randomly, it was stated that the observations developed completely positively at the end of the research process.

This research explores the question: How do students describe their own sensemaking practices in the postsecondary modern dance classroom? Based on semi-structured interviews with three postsecondary dance students at the first author's institution, this article presents individual accounts that capture students' perceptions of making sense of new movement material in a modern dance class. From the accounts, three themes emerged: implicit curriculum, the embodied mind, and the role of attention. We discuss these themes in relation to existing literature from learning theory and dance education and offer implications for creating an equitable learning environment. This research, which blends teacher self-study and qualitative inquiry, is intended to inform departmental practice and contribute situated perspectives to theories of learning in dance.

This article debates how muscles happen in early childhood education. Drawing on post-developmental pedagogies and feminist science studies, this article integrates moments from a pedagogical inquiry with movement in early childhood education to trace how muscles matter as complex and active ethical, political, and pedagogical concerns. After elaborating how muscles are understood in dominant Canadian pedagogical resources, I think with feminist science studies and post-developmental pedagogies to consider how muscles can be thought as an active undertaking. Then, the diaphragm muscle is mobilised to explore how physiological understandings of muscles might raise questions of muscle consequence, ongoingness, and access and activation, which extend into questions of perceptibility, process, and participation. I conclude by discussing how a focus on 'muscling' illuminates how pedagogical intentions can make muscles differently perceptible and emphasise the ethical and political complexities of doing muscling in everyday mo(ve)ments in early childhood.
