3. Role of Griffiths phase on magnetocaloric properties and critical behavior of half-doped manganites [La0.5Sr0.5−xCaxMnO3(x = 0, 0.25, 0.5)].

Abstract

In this article, a comprehensive study of the effect of calcium substitution on structural magnetic, magnetocaloric properties, and role of Griffiths phase on magnetocaloric properties of half-doped manganites L a 0.5 S r 0.5 − x C a x Mn O 3 (x = 0 , 0.25 , 0.5) ] have been presented. A structural phase transition I4/mcm − Pbnm is observed in the whole series. The system exhibits two magnetic transitions for Ca-00 and Ca-25, whereas only one phase transition is observed for Ca-50. Paramagnetic (PM)–ferromagnetic (FM) transition is observed in the whole series and ferromagnetic (FM) - antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase transition is only observed in Ca-25. Interestingly, short range FM clusters exist in the PM matrix of Ca-50, which is a signature of Griffiths phase (GP). The confirmation of GP has been carried out by performing iso-field magnetization measurements at 200 Oe, 500 Oe, and 1 kOe, respectively. Further magnetocaloric properties have been discussed on the basis of isothermal magnetization curves recorded at certain temperature intervals. Calcium substitution favors the enhancement of magnetic entropy change in the series, especially for Ca-50, a magnetic entropy change of 4.5 J/(kg K) with relative cooling power of 180 J/kg under 5 T magnetic field was observed. Iso-field magnetization and magnetocaloric effect along with critical behavior analysis have been carried out to probe the GP and other inhomogeneities present in the respective series. Abstract

In this report, a detailed investigation of magnetocaloric properties of Ce 3 + -doped zinc–cobalt spinel ferrite nanoparticles with the generic formula Zn 0.6 Co 0.4 Ce x Fe 2 - x O 4 (x = 0.02 , 0.04 , 0.06) synthesized via chemical coprecipitation method had been carried out. Rietveld analysis of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns confirmed the phase purity of the nanoparticles and the corresponding space group was found to be Fd 3 ¯ m for the series. The shift of microstrain inside the crystal from compressive to tensile regime with doping of Ce confirms the expansion of unit cell in the whole series. Raman spectroscopy also confirmed the spinel structure of the samples. Coexistence of magnetic phases below room temperature is observed from the magnetization measurements with temperature under 500 Oe applied field. A decrease in T C as well as T B was observed with increase in x due to weakening of exchange interaction. The transition temperature of Ce-04 nanoparticles is quite close to room temperature which may be beneficial for room temperature magnetic refrigeration. Though the Ce 3 + doping in the series did not favour enhancement of magnetic entropy change, it enhanced the RCP which could be beneficial for room temperature or below room temperature magnetic refrigeration. A good correlation was established between magnetocaloric properties and critical behaviour of Ce 3 + -doped zinc–cobalt spinel ferrite nanoparticles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

47. Effect of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy on survival and recurrence rates in advanced gastric cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract

Background: Around 5-20% of patients who undergo surgery for advanced gastric cancer (AGC), which invades into the muscularis propria or beyond, have peritoneal carcinomatosis. The peritoneal recurrence rate is 10-54%, which is associated with a poor prognosis. The role of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in AGC with and without peritoneal carcinomatosis is not clearly defined. Methods: The authors conducted a meta-analysis, in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, of the clinical trials and high-quality nonrandomized studies evaluating the role of HIPEC in AGC over the last 10 years. The studies were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases between January 2011 to December 2021. Clinical data including overall survival, recurrence free survival, overall recurrence rate, peritoneal recurrence rate, and complications analyzed using RevMan 5.4. Results: Six randomized controlled trials and 10 nonrandomized studies, comprising a total of 1700 patients were included. HIPEC was associated with significantly improved OS at 3 [odd ratio (OR) 1.89, 95% CI: 1.17-3.05] and 5 years (OR 1.87, 95% CI: 1.29-2.71). HIPEC was associated with reduced overall recurrence (OR 0.49, 95% CI: 0.31-0.80) and peritoneal recurrence (OR 0.22, 95% CI: 0.11-0.47). HIPEC was not associated with increased complications. The occurrence of postoperative renal dysfunction was significantly higher in the HIPEC group (OR 3.94, 95% CI: 1.85-8.38). Conclusion: The role of HIPEC in AGC has evolved over the past decade. HIPEC may improve survival rates and reduce recurrence rates in patients with AGC, without significant increase in complications and with a favorable impact on 3 and 5-year survival.
