Objective: The objective of this research was to evaluate the understanding of İstanbul Convention among personnel and healthcare practitioners employed in private hospitals, along with examining their perspectives on gender roles. Methods: The research sample comprised 303 individuals employed at a private hospital. The study followed a descriptive-cross-sectional design. Data collection encompassed participant background information, inquiries regarding the İstanbul Convention, and the Gender Roles Attitude scale (GRAS). Results: Nurses accounted for 47.2% of the participants, and women constituted 68% of the sample. Within the subgroup endorsing Turkey’s withdrawal from the İstanbul Convention, 85% expressed that concepts like gender identity and sexual orientation were incongruent with Turkish societal norms. The participants attained an average GRAS score of 146.61±25.68, indicative of their egalitarian outlook. Notably, GRAS scores displayed considerable variation across all demographic traits. Respondents favoring the İstanbul Convention-related queries exhibited positive GRAS scores. Conclusion: The study’s findings indicated that individuals with advanced education, females, unmarried women, nurses, those from nuclear families, individuals born in the Marmara region, those without strong political leanings, and those who pursued an egalitarian perspective exhibited elevated mean GRAS scores. As a suggestion, introducing gender role education at the primary school level and implementing inservice training within healthcare institutions could be valuable.

Abstract Background The aim of the forensic nursing (FN) education is to provide nursing students with the basic knowledge of FN that they can use in the clinical area. Objective The study evaluated the effect of integrating forensic nursing into the undergraduate nursing curriculum on 2nd- and 4th-year students’ knowledge level of FN. Participants The target population of this study was composed of 2nd- and 4th-year students in the nursing department at a foundation university in Istanbul. The study was conducted with 95 nursing students who agreed to participate in the study. Methods The research was planned as cross-sectional and descriptive. The questionnaire form was developed with the help of literature by experts in the field. Each correct answer was scored as 4 points, and the total score could range from 0 to 100. Results The average age was 21.64 ± 1.16, and 66.3% (n = 63) was female. Out of the 95 students, 50.5% (n = 48) were in 2nd year, and 49.5% (n = 47) were in 4th year. A total of 47.4% (n = 45) of the students took a FN course, and 52.6% (n = 50) did not take FN course. The average level of knowledge for those who took FN course was 52.09 ± 12.31 and for those who did not take FN course was 46.16 ± 12.18. According to the status of taking FN course, a significant difference was found between the average level of knowledge (p < 0.05). Conclusions These results emphasize the importance of integration of FN into the undergraduate nursing curriculum.

Aim: This study aimed to conduct an artificial intelligence-based sentiment analysis of Turkish tweets about nursing during the nursing week during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: This is a retrospective descriptive survey. Between May 4 and May 19, 2021, Turkish tweets were analyzed using the Python library Tweepy. The search terms 'nurse, nursing, and nursing week' were used to analyzed tweets for their positivity, neutrality, or negativity. Results: The analysis of 24,944 tweets revealed that tweets frequently express neutral emotions. The negative tweets frequently discussed issues such as societal gender perception, professionalism, burnout during the pandemic, salaries, inadequate nursing workforce, inequalities, violence against healthcare professionals, and the deaths of nurses. Conclusions: Social media applications can be recommended as important tools for raising awareness of the nursing profession identity, professionalism, visibility, and the perception of society towards nursing, nursing problems, and recommendations for solutions.

Forensic science is a superstructure that includes many branches that require special expertise. The correct application of these branches that require expertise to the practice requires a unique organization. The way to establish an organization in this way is strictly dependent on evaluating the problems from both inside and outside. For the holistic approach to the problems related to forensic science and forensic medicine organization in Turkey, current literature on the subject has been studied and two resources have been reached. The first of these is a study prepared by the Presidency State Supervisory Board (DDK) in 2010. The main perspective in this study is to provide European Union norms. The other study is a report titled “Forensic Medicine Service Model and Manpower Planning” prepared by Prof. Dr. Yasemin Balcı, after being discussed by the Board of Proficiency in Forensic Medicine and accepted on 7 April 2007. Although many researches have been carried out on the field until today, these two reports come to the fore, in which many areas and issues are discussed extensively and recommendations are made. It is seen that concerning the problems stated in these detailed reports evaluated within this scope, there are deficiencies in the implementation of the structures and regulations proposed to solve the problems. For this reason, first of all, any regulation and structuring that have been made to solve the problems stated in these reports has been discussed when necessary.

Objective:This research was carried out to determine the university students’ views and attitudes on sexual myths/rape myths.Methods:The research was carried out as descriptive. The sample consisted of 140 students studying at the faculty of engineering-architecture, the faculty of science and literature, and the school of health sciences. Data collection tools consisted of two parts. In the first part, there were questions about sociodemographic characteristics and sexuality. In the second part, there were 15 myths about sexual myths and sexual assault myths created by researchers with the aid of literature.Results:The mean age of the students participating in the study was 21.98±1.70 years, and 48.6% (n=68) were female and 51.4% were male. 32.1% (n=45) of them were in the nursing department of SBYO, 25.7% (n=36) were in the departments of the engineering-architecture faculty, and 42.1% (n=59) were in the departments of the faculty of science and literature. It was observed that the students got information about sexuality mostly from communication tools (44.2%) and 48.6% (n=68) had negative thoughts about sexual intercourse before marriage. It was concluded that men, nursing and engineering-architecture faculty students and those who had a negative opinion about sexual intercourse before marriage were significantly more likely to agree with some sexual myths/sexual assault myths.Conclusion:There are those who accept these myths as true, albeit at a low rate, among university students. This may be due to gender roles, restrictive cultural norms, and the inadequacy of education and information on sexual assault and sexuality in the education system. Shaping the education system will provide university students’ awareness about sexual myths and sexual assault myths and will help students acquire and internalize correct information.

Owing to the fact that the healthcare personnel and the individuals responsible for those teams take part at the first step of chain of custody, their tasks and activity is of prime importance. Besides a complete examination and treatment for forensic cases, they are also in charge of collection and transfer of the biological samples having an evidential value in line with the attorney generalship or court notices and demands. In this study, its aimed to investigate the knowledge levels of emergency medical personnel about the collection, storage, protection and transfer of biological materials having an evidential reasoning that are obtained from forensic cases. The study data includes the responses of 102 voluntary persons to a 10-question survey. The research results reveal that even though the emergency medical personnel considers that they fulfill their share for forensic incidents, its found out that they have inadequate information and awareness for collection, storage and transfer of the biological samples from forensic cases.
