With the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources in the power system, the power electronic inverters are widely used to interface with the grid, which will reduce the inertia of the power system. This study proposes ancillary inertial service from single‐phase rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) based inverter to the grid. The inertia emulation control technique transforms the behaviour of inverter like a synchronous generator under power imbalances. A hybrid energy storage system consisting of battery and supercapacitor (SC) has been connected at the DC bus to take care of the variability in PV output power and load fluctuations. The SC absorbs/injects the fast‐varying power and provides the inertial response to arrest the frequency deviation and battery charges/discharges to bring back the frequency to the nominal value. Summary: Electric vehicle (EV) systems are the promising future transportation system as they play a key role in reducing the atmospheric carbon emission, and it becomes the focal point of research and development in the current epoch. This paper presents the design and development of three‐port dc‐dc buck‐boost converter (TPB2C) applicable for EV. The main feature of the proposed converter is its ability to handle diversified energy sources of different voltage and current characteristics with high output gain. The designed single stage converter with reduced components count can be operated in buck, boost, and buck‐boost mode with partial bidirectional power flow capability. In addition, the TPB2C converter could provide buck and boost output simultaneously unlike its counterparts which can output either buck or boost output. In buck mode, the suggested topology charges the battery and thereby eliminates a separate battery management system. Roof top photovoltaic panel and battery are the two input sources for the suggested converter. A small‐signal model of the converter is developed using state‐space approach, and the steady‐state performance of the converter is analyzed comprehensively. The device level simulations carried out in MATLAB‐Simulink and the experimental laboratory prototype model are validated using a dSPACE1104 real‐time digital controller. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Various statistics indicate that many of the parts of India, especially rural and island areas have either partial or no access to electricity. The main reason for this scenario is the immense expanse of which the power producing stations and the distribution hubs are located from these rural and distant areas. This emphasizes the significance of subsidiarity of power generation by means of renewable energy resources. Although in current energy production scenario electricity supply is principally by AC current, a large variety of the everyday utility devices like cell phone chargers, computers, laptop chargers etc. all work internally with DC power. The count of intermediate energy transfer steps are significantly abridged by providing DC power to mentioned devices. The paper also states other works that prove the increase in overall system efficiency and thereby cost reduction. With an abundance of solar power at disposal and major modification in the area of power electronic conversion devices, this article suggests a DC grid that can be used for a household in a distant or rural area to power the aforementioned, utilizing Solar PV. A system was designed for a household which is not connected to the main grid and was successfully simulated for several loads totaling to 250 W with the help of an isolated flyback converter at the front end and suitable power electronic conversion devices at each load points. Maximum abstraction of operational energy from renewable sources at a residential and commercial level is intended with the suggested direct current systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
