Understanding the mechanisms by which consumers choose among these competing service channels represents an important concern for organizations, consumers, and Web site designers. This study develops a research model based on Social Cognitive Theory to explain and predict service channel preferences that arise in the early stages of adoption, before a consumer conducts business using a particular channel. The model is subsequently tested in the brokerage services context, using observations obtained via survey. Given the growing popularity of online investing combined with the challenging prospect of making optimal decisions in an inherently risky environment, the context offers insights of practical and theoretical importance. The results suggest that task-specific self-efficacy beliefs serve as the activating mechanism kicking off a chain of psychological events that entice consumers to favor a particular service channel. Higher levels of self-efficacy induce individuals to prefer the online approach. In addition to its direct effect on preference for the online service channel, higher levels of self-efficacy influence one's propensity to take risks and expectations of performance-oriented rewards, which, in turn, sway consumers to favor the online service channel. Furthermore, self-efficacy and perceptions concerning the credibility of online information interact to affect service channel preference. Consumers are more likely to prefer the online service channel when they view themselves as capable and perceive online sources to be credible. Implications for theory and practice are discussed in light of the findings. The application of Internet-based virtual stock markets (VSMs) is an additional approach that can be used to predict short- and medium-term market developments. The basic concept involves bringing a group of participants together via the Internet and allowing them to trade shares of virtual stocks. These stocks represent a bet on the outcome of future market situations, and their value depends on the realization of these market situations. In this process, a VSM elicits and aggregates the assessments of its participants concerning future market developments. The aim of this article is to evaluate the potential use and the different design possibilities as well as the forecast accuracy and performance of VSMs compared to expert predictions for their application to business forecasting. After introducing the basic idea of using VSMs for business forecasting, we discuss the different design possibilities for such VSMs. In three real-world applications, we analyze the feasibility and forecast accuracy of VSMs, compare the performance of VSMs to expert predictions, and propose a new validity test for VSM forecasts. (2008), to discuss cause-effect relationships and the relevant importance of investors' intentions to use a Mobile Trading System (MTS). The findings suggest that psychological risk is the overall core principal indicator of investors' evaluations. Interestingly, commission discount and gifts are perceived as relatively unimportant. Telephone trading still attracts the attention of investors owing to its benefits of space and time, as well as lower performance risk.

Byline: Chiu-Che Tseng, June Wei, Ching-Tsai Kang This paper examines online stock price effects of cross-listings American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in Taiwanese companies. Specifically, decision tree and rule base systems were used to analyse the stock price variances of ADRs in the USA and those in Taiwan market to see if the ADR listed in the US market reflects the real-time information that became available while the US market was open right after the Taiwan market was closed. The results showed that most of the companies had higher accuracy rates of ADRs prediction, and some companies even had more than 60% accuracy rates. This paper concludes that Taiwanese stock price plays the main role in affecting the stock prices in the USA.
