The English version of CIRCuiTS demonstrated good acceptability and feasibility. A recent randomized controlled trial provided evidence that the program improves memory and functioning, and that the impact on functional outcome is mediated by metacognition. The next steps in the development of CIRCuiTS include both: 1) the translation and adaptation of the program in different cultural settings; and 2) the demonstration of feasibility, acceptability and effectiveness of a standardized method to administer CIRCuiTS remotely.Purpose: To implement the CIRCuiTS Italian version and to assess acceptability, feasibility and efficacy of a standardized method to administer CIRCuiTS remotely.Methods: Participants were assessed at baseline and received up to 40 CIRCuiTS therapy sessions, three times a week, for about 1 hr over a three-month period. Participants were reassessed post-treatment.Results: The program demonstrated good feasibility and high acceptability when assessed by the number of dropouts and evaluation of patients’ satisfaction. Participants improved in learning, speed of processing, working memory and executive control. They showed a reduction in disorganization and improvement in self-esteem, functional capacity, and real-life functioning.Conclusion: In this study, a standardized protocol for using CIRCuiTS from home was implemented. The first set of data showed in the paper is encouraging. The proposed procedure could lead to a dropout reduction while maintaining the efficacy of the program.Keywords: cognition, cognitive training, metacognition, real-life functioning

The training includes a module for emotion recognition and one for theory of mind. A comparison with a validated cognitive remediation intervention, the Social Skills And Neurocognitive Individualized Training (SSANIT), was conducted to verify the efficacy of the SoCIAL in improving SC. Ten stabilized patients with schizophrenia accepted to participate. Five patients were randomized to SoCIAL and five to SSANIT. The SoCIAL intervention includes individual sessions of neurocognitive individualized training (NIT) and group sessions of SC training. SSANIT includes individual sessions of NIT and group sessions of social skills individualized training. The interventions were matched for the overall treatment duration (20 weeks) and for the frequency of the sessions (two times a week, one for SoCIAL or social skills individualized training and one for NIT, with a duration of 80 minutes for each session). Results showed a significant treatment effect (effect size: Cohen’s d 0.32) on the primary outcome; in fact, only the SoCIAL intervention improved theory of mind. Patients receiving the SoCIAL intervention also showed an improvement of avolition. These preliminary findings support further development of the SoCIAL and suggest that cognitive remediation should include an SC module. 10. Application of thermal methods for characterization of steel welded joints

Abstract

Despite the large number of proposals in the field of fatigue prediction of welded joints, a globally accepted and unified theory, which applies easily to any load condition, does not exist. Real life components, indeed, differ in geometry and/or type of load from the structural design for which they are regarded by Standards, so that a lot of precautionary safety factors are used that lead to an underestimation of the actual fatigue life of joints. Infrared thermography has a great potential in this field, both from structural and thermomechanical points of view. It enables a full field stress analysis with a sufficient spatial resolution so that the complexity of the stress state at the weld toe and its time evolution are taken into account, emphasizing anomalies that may predict structural failure. A new methods for evaluation fatigue limit damage is presented in this paper and in particular interesting results derived from analysis of the evolution of thermoelastic signal phase. Variations in the value of signal phase indicate a not elastic behaviour and plastic dissipation in the material.

11. Thermoelastic stress analysis of titanium components and simultaneous assessment of residual stress

Abstract

The thermoelastic effect describes a linear relationship between change in body temperature and state of stress in the presence of adiabatic conditions. This approach considers the material properties constant with temperature, which is not correct for all materials. Experimental results and a review of the theory, especially for the titanium and some alloys of aluminium, have shown that the thermoelastic signal is also dependent of mean stress of the material. The use of titanium in various fields of application makes interesting use of thermoelastic technique as full field stress analysis technique. However, it is necessary to make a correction of the measure in relation to the mean stress. The possibility to measure the mean stress allows also an evaluation of residual stresses on the surface of titanium components.

Abstract

Purpose: To explore the role of fully hybrid 68Ga-DOTATOC PET/MR imaging and radiomic parameters in predicting histopathological prognostic factors in patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs) undergoing surgery. Methods: One hundred eighty-seven consecutive 68Ga-DOTATOC PET/MRI scans (March 2018–June 2020) performed for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumour were retrospectively evaluated; 16/187 patients met the eligibility criteria (68Ga-DOTATOC PET/MRI for preoperative staging of PanNET and availability of histological data). PET/MR scans were qualitatively and quantitatively interpreted, and the following imaging parameters were derived: PET-derived SUVmax, SUVmean, somatostatin receptor density (SRD), total lesion somatostatin receptor density (TLSRD), and MRI-derived apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), arterial and late enhancement, necrosis, cystic degeneration, and maximum diameter. Additionally, first-, second-, and higher-order radiomic parameters were extracted from both PET and MRI scans. Correlations with several PanNETs' histopathological prognostic factors were evaluated using Spearman's coefficient, while the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate parameters' predictive performance. Results: Primary tumour was detected in all 16 patients (15/16 by 68Ga-DOTATOC PET and 16/16 by MRI). SUVmax and SUVmean resulted good predictors of lymphnodal (LN) involvement (AUC of 0.850 and 0.783, respectively). Second-order radiomic parameters GrayLevelVariance and HighGrayLevelZoneEmphasis extracted from T2 MRI demonstrated significant correlations with LN involvement (adjusted p = 0.009), also showing good predictive performance (AUC = 0.992). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the role of the fully hybrid PET/MRI tool for the synergic function of imaging parameters extracted by the two modalities and highlights the potentiality of imaging and radiomic parameters in assessing histopathological features of PanNET aggressiveness.
