Percutaneous renal access was under the guidance of a non-rotational C-arm without contrast medium, and we determined the puncture location and depth of the needle based on the principle of right triangles.Results: The median age was 51.6 ± 12.5 years, and males accounted for 68.1% of the cases. 60.9% of all patients had normal weight. The median stone surface area was 361.1mm2, and 59.4% of all cases were graded as 2 regarding Guy’s stone score. The successful renal access rate was 100%. The tunnel access from the middle and lower calyx accounted for 94.2%. The median access duration, fluoroscopy duration, and hospital length of stay were 271.7 seconds, 14.79 seconds, and 6.3 days, respectively. The complete stone clearance rate was 78.3%. Bleeding complications occurred in 2 patients without mortality. Three patients required an additional procedure.Conclusion: The puncture technique into the renal calyxes based on the principle of the right triangle under the guidance of a non-rotational C-Arm without contrast medium in PCNL is a fast, exact, and safe technique.Keywords: MiniPCNL, percutaneous renal access, non-rotational C-arm, flank position, vacuum-assisted sheath

Instead of reoperation, she underwent stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), which was performed using a linac-based Elekta Axesse SRS machine with a marginal dose of 24 Gy (gross target volume: 6.67 cm3) in one fraction. Post-radiosurgery, she had no clinical or radiological complications. She was maintained on two anti-seizure medications following treatment (valproate and levetiracetam) and was seizure free at the time of this report (during four weeks after SRS). Monthly follow-up was planned for the evaluation of long-term outcomes. SRS may be a safe option for treating intractable focal epilepsy or recurrent epilepsy after surgery failure in children.Keywords: stereotactic radiosurgery, epilepsy, refractory, epilepsy surgery

The injury of the patient’s right ureter resulted as a complication of prior ureteroscopic and laparoscopic. For the treatment of complete ureteral loss, the right kidney was removed and placed into the left iliac fossa. Revascularization of the kidney was performed by anastomosis of the renal vasculatures to the external iliac vasculature. Ureteral reconstruction was performed through a Boari bladder flap. At the six-month follow-up visit, the resistive indices of the transplanted kidney proved to be in the normal range.Keywords: renal autotransplantation, injury ureter

Patients with solitary tumor accounted for 79%; 68.4% had tumor size greater than 5 cm. Pringle maneuver was used in 57.9%, while selective right or left Glissonean pedicle occlusion was used in 69.0% and 32.8%, respectively. Final transection surface reinforcement was achieved by Surgicel and BioGlue in 78.9% and 21.5% of cases, respectively. Major liver resection accounted for 73.7%. The mean parenchymal transection time was 50 (45– 110) minutes, while mean total operative time was 125 (90– 280) minutes. Mean operative blood loss was 250 (150– 650) mL. Mean post-operative hospital stay was 8 days (7– 23). Post-operative complication rate was 15.9% and mortality rate was 1.7%.Conclusion: Hepatectomy using Takasaki technique with Sonastar ultrasonic aspiration system is safe, effective, allowing an anatomical resection with sufficient safety margin and resulting in low complication rates (liver failure, biliary leakage) and good survival outcomes.Keywords: liver tumor, SonaStar, Takasaki’s technique

As the EuroQol-5-dimensions-5 levels (EQ-5D-5L) is more effective for such measurement than the 3-level model, data on economic models, clinical studies, and public health evaluations previously collected through the EQ-5D-3L need to be revaluated using the EQ-5D-5L. This study evaluated colorectal cancer (CRC) patients’ HRQoL scores using the Vietnamese EQ-5D-5L value set.Patients and Methods: The cross-sectional study included CRC patients treated at a tertiary public hospital. HRQoL was assessed using the EQ-5D-5L, and HRQoL utility scores were calculated using the Vietnamese value set. Tobit regression examined factors associated with HRQoL.Results: The analysis included 197 CRC patients. Ages ranged from 20 to 87 years (M = 57.64, SD = 13.5); 42.2% and 57.8% were diagnosed with cancer of the colon or rectum/anus, respectively. Mean EQ-5D-5L was 0.561 (range, − 0.5115 to 1). Most participants experienced anxiety/depression (88%), followed by pain/discomfort (87%), mobility (71%), usual activity (69%), and self-care (67%). Advanced CRC stage (stage II: β − 0.303, se 0.08; stage III: β − 0.305, se 0.07; stage IV: β − 0.456, se 0.07) and surgery (β − 0.113, se 0.05) were negatively associated with EQ-5D-5L scores. Advanced education (high school: β 0.273, se 0.07); college/vocational: β 0.134se 0.05; university/higher: Coef 0.213, se 0.08;) and older age (age group 35− 44: β 0.253, se 0.10; 45− 54: β 0.327, se 0.09; 55− 64: β 0.355 se 0.09; 65+ β 0.204, se 0.09) were positively associated with EQ-5D-5L scores.Conclusion: Patients in advanced CRC stages or undergoing surgery experienced lower HRQoL and higher prevalence of anxiety/depression and pain/discomfort. Older age and high educational attainment predicted high HRQoL. Abstract Bloodstream infection (BSI) poses a global health problem, with diverse organisms and rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Here, we characterized trends in BSI prevalence, AMR, and antibiotic use at a Vietnamese infectious diseases hospital from 2010 to 2020. Among 108,303 cultured blood samples, 8.8% were positive, yielding 7995 pathogens. Of 7553 BSI cases, 86.4% were community-acquired. BSI prevalence varied from 17 to 35 cases/1000 admissions/year, highest in HIV/hepatitis wards and patients >60. The in-hospital mortality or hospice discharge outcome was 21.3%. The top three pathogens, E. coli (24%), K. pneumoniae (8.7%) and S. aureus (8.5%) exhibited increasing prevalence and multidrug resistance. Pathogens like Cryptococcus neoformans (8.4%), Talaromyces marneffei (6.7%), and Salmonella enterica (6.5%) declined. E. coli and K. pneumoniae were prevalent in older adults with community-acquired BSIs. Antibiotic use reached 842.6 DOT/1000 PD and significantly reduced after an antibiotic control policy. Enhanced surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship are crucial for managing BSIs in Vietnam.

Abstract Striped catfish are one of the main aquaculture species in Asia. However, the low level of omega‐3 fatty acids in its body makes this species less attractive compared with marine fish. This study aimed to investigate the effect of different oils on growth performance, body composition, and fatty acids in striped catfish juveniles. A basal diet (T0) was formulated to contain no oil, while four other diets (T1, T2, T3, and T4) were supplemented at 4% with different oils, including salmon oil (SALO), soybean oil (SBO), linseed oil (LSO), and rapeseed oil (RSO). Catfish juveniles with initial body weight (23–24 g/fish) were randomly stocked in 500‐L fiberglass tanks, divided into five treatments, three replicates for each, and fed the experimental diets for 60 days. This paper establishes a mean convergence theorem for triangular arrays of rowwise and pairwise mn-dependent random variables. Some authors studied limit theorems for sequences of pairwise m-dependent random variables where m is fixed (see, e.g., Quang and Nguyen [Applications of Mathematics, 2016] and Thanh [Bulletin of the Institute of Mathematics Academia Sinica, 2005]). In this paper, we establish a limit theorem for triangular arrays of rowwise and pairwise mn-dependent random variables, where mn may approach infinity as n → ∞. The main theorem extends some results in the literature, including Theorem 3.1 of Chen, Bai and Sung in [Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2014].

The known constructive tests for the shapes of the numerical ranges in the 3-by-3 case are further specified when the matrices in question are row stochastic. Auxiliary results on the unitary (ir)reducibility of such matrices are also obtained.

Improving experimental competence for students is an essential mission in general education nowadays, helping students initially establish scientific research capacity and is a part of cognitive capacity of scientific knowledge, especially in the study of natural sciences such as biology, physics and chemistry. In this article, theoretical and practical research methods have been used in combination with pedagogical experiment on 85 students, of which 43 students and control over 42 tenth grade students at a high school in Vietnam. The data processed by SPSS 20.0 software shows that using empirical exercises in teaching will significantly improve the students’ experimental competence. The level of students' experimental capacity increased in the experimental class compared to the control class, the results before and after the experiment of the experimental class also changed positively. The initial research result indicates the role of empirical exercises in enhancing the experimental capacity of students, the study also suggested the process of using experimental exercises in teaching to improve students’ experimental capacity. The findings of the research could be important in proposing solutions to improve the academic performance of students in high schools, not only in the area of teaching biology but also extending into other subjects.

A small power ADS design using thorium oxide and diluent matrix reprocessed fuel is proposed for a high transmutation rate, small reactivity swing, and strong safety features. Two fuel matrices (CERCER and CERMET) and different recycled fuel compositions recovered from UO2 spent fuels with 45 GWd/tU and 60 GWd/tU burnup were investigated to determine the suitable fuel for the ADS. It was found that the transmutation of each isotope depends on TRU initial loading amount. After examining the cores, the results show that CERCER fueled ADS has a negative coolant void reactivity (CVR) and a smaller radiotoxicity at discharge compared to that of CERMET core. It implies that CERCER fuel has enhanced safety features and more flavor in terms of radiotoxicity management. To increase fuel utilization and core operation efficiency, a simple assembly shuffling pattern for the CERCER fueled ADS is also proposed. Eigenvalue and burnup calculations were conducted using Serpent 2 with ENDF/B-VII.0 library in both kcode and external source modes, and it indicates that the results of transmutation analyses obtained by kcode only is reliable to discuss the transmutation potential of ADS. Burnup calculation with the fixed-source mode is essential to be used for more practical results of the transmutation by ADS.

Clay mineralogy, major-element geochemistry, and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions from Core MD05-2896 collected in the southern South China Sea have been utilized to investigate the discrimination of sediment provenance and to reconstruct a history of chemical weathering in the Mekong River basin over the last 45 ka. The results display that the clay mineral assemblage of the core is characterized by abundant smectite (27%–56%) and illite (18%–32%), with moderate kaolinite (13%–23%) and chlorite (11%–18%), and the 87Sr/86Sr ratio and εNd value narrowly vary in the ranges of 0.7232–0.7272 and from –10.9 to –9.6, respectively. According to clay mineralogy and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions, the Mekong River is the main terrigenous sedimentary source to the southern South China Sea, with no detectable change over the time span of the study, despite having strong sea-level fluctuations. Clay mineralogy and elemental geochemistry analyses reveal that higher smectite/(illite + chlorite), smectite/kaolinite, TiO2/K2O, and SiO2/K2O ratios during Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 and 1 suggest enhanced chemical weathering, whereas lower values of these ratios during MIS 2 indicate weakened chemical weathering. These proxies reveal a close relationship with the available climate records of the East Asian monsoon evolution, implying that the chemical weathering in the Mekong River basin has been strongly controlled by the East Asian monsoon rainfall.

Summary: Background: Encephalitis is a worldwide public health issue, with a substantially high burden among children in southeast Asia. We aimed to determine the causes of encephalitis in children admitted to hospitals across the Greater Mekong region by implementing a comprehensive state-of-the-art diagnostic procedure harmonised across all centres, and identifying clinical characteristics related to patients’ conditions. Methods: In this multicentre, observational, prospective study of childhood encephalitis, four referral hospitals in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar recruited children (aged 28 days to 16 years) who presented with altered mental status lasting more than 24 h and two of the following minor criteria: fever (within the 72 h before or after presentation), one or more generalised or partial seizures (excluding febrile seizures), a new-onset focal neurological deficit, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) white blood cell count of 5 per mL or higher, or brain imaging (CT or MRI) suggestive of lesions of encephalitis. Comprehensive diagnostic procedures were harmonised across all centres, with first-line testing was done on samples taken at inclusion and results delivered within 24 h of inclusion for main treatable causes of disease and second-line testing was done thereafter for mostly non-treatable causes. An independent expert medical panel reviewed the charts and attribution of causes of all the included children. Using multivariate analyses, we assessed risk factors associated with unfavourable outcomes (ie, severe neurological sequelae and death) at discharge using data from baseline and day 2 after inclusion. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04089436, and is now complete. Findings: Between July 28, 2014, and Dec 31, 2017, 664 children with encephalitis were enrolled. Median age was 4·3 years (1·8–8·8), 295 (44%) children were female, and 369 (56%) were male. A confirmed or probable cause of encephalitis was identified in 425 (64%) patients: 216 (33%) of 664 cases were due to Japanese encephalitis virus, 27 (4%) were due to dengue virus, 26 (4%) were due to influenza virus, 24 (4%) were due to herpes simplex virus 1, 18 (3%) were due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, 17 (3%) were due to Streptococcus pneumoniae, 17 (3%) were due to enterovirus A71, 74 (9%) were due to other pathogens, and six (1%) were due to autoimmune encephalitis. Diagnosis was made within 24 h of admission to hospital for 83 (13%) of 664 children. 119 (18%) children had treatable conditions and 276 (42%) had conditions that could have been preventable by vaccination. At time of discharge, 153 (23%) of 664 children had severe neurological sequelae and 83 (13%) had died. In multivariate analyses, risk factors for unfavourable outcome were diagnosis of M tuberculosis infection upon admission (odds ratio 3·23 [95% CI 1·04–10·03]), coma on day 2 (2·90 [1·78–4·72]), supplementary oxygen requirement (1·89 [1·25–2·86]), and more than 1 week duration between symptom onset and admission to hospital (3·03 [1·68–5·48]). At 1 year after inclusion, of 432 children who were discharged alive from hospital with follow-up data, 24 (5%) had died, 129 (30%) had neurological sequelae, and 279 (65%) had completely recovered. Interpretation: In southeast Asia, most causes of childhood encephalitis are either preventable or treatable, with Japanese encephalitis virus being the most common cause. We provide crucial information that could guide public health policy to improve diagnostic, vaccination, and early therapeutic guidelines on childhood encephalitis in the Greater Mekong region. Lаrge аrteriovenous mаlformаtions (АVMs) аre chаllenges in mаnаgement becаuse of outcomes аnd аdverse аffects. Volume-stаged rаdiosurgery hаs been аn аppropriаte аpproаch when removаl resection аnd embolizаtion аre not recommended. А 53-yeаr-old gentlemаn wаs diаgnosed with а lаrge intrаcrаniаl АVM with persistent heаdаche аnd short-term seizure. Brаin mаgnetic resonаnce аnd аngiogrаph showed а bulky volume of АVM nidus. Removаl resection аnd embolizаtion were not recommended becаuse of high risk of аdverse аffects. The pаtient wаs treаted by volume-stаged rаdiosurgery. One yeаr post-treаtment, obliterаtion for right internаl cаrotid аrtery wаs completed. Volume-stаged rаdiosurgery is а potentiаl treаtment option for lаrge АVM with controlled аnd obliterаtion efficаcy, especiаlly to АVMs which аre not аppropriаte for removаl surgery аnd embolizаtion.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal system. Histopathological examination takes an important part in confirming the subtypes of GISTs, to choose appropriate therapeutics for patients. This study aims to explore the histopathological characteristics and evaluate the relationship between malignant risk classification (according to Armed Forces Institute of Pathology criteria) and the histopathological features of GISTs in a cohort of Vietnamese patients. Methods: We reviewed 89 patients with primary GIST who underwent surgery between 2014 and 2019 at Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam. We investigated histopathological characteristics and immunohistochemical findings of all patients. Results: The average age was 55.9 ± 11.9 years. A tumor size of 2-5 cm accounted for 64.1%. The most common position was at the stomach which accounted for 48.5%. Among the subtypes of GIST, spindle cells were seen in 85.9% of patients; epithelial form 10.9%; multi-morphology (3.2%). 97.4% of the samples were positive for CD117, 61.5% of cases were positive for CD34; and no case was positive for Desmin. The rate of high-risk GIST was dominant (46.9%) as compared to the intermediate-risk (28.1%), low-risk (0.3%-2%), and very low-risk groups (4.7%). Conclusions: This study demonstrates the histopathological characteristics of GIST and emphasizes the significant rate of high-risk GIST.

Background: Even though no age is free to be affected by appendicitis, it is extremely rare in newborn infants. Clinical presentations are usually nonspecific, abdominal imaging is not always diagnostic, and definitive diagnosis is difficult. We present a 15-day-old infant with acute perforated appendicitis that was diagnosed and treated in our pediatric center. Case report: This case presented at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with an 18-h-history of irritability, vomiting, and abdominal distension. With high white blood cell count and C-reactive protein level, the baby was initially diagnosed with neonatal sepsis. The ultrasound performed on day 3 after hospitalization found peritonitis but not seen appendicitis. Postoperative diagnosis confirmed acute perforated appendicitis with peritonitis. The baby was well covered without complication. Conclusion: This case highlights that preoperative diagnosis of acute appendicitis in neonates is difficult due to nonspecific clinical presentation and the extreme rarity of the disease.

Аcute Myelоid Leukemiа (АML) in children is а serious disease. With a prоper treаtment, а lоng-term survivаl rаte аbоve 50% is typicаl. Befоre 2010, аll the АML pаtients died in оur hоspitаl, аnd аbаndоnment rаte wаs mоre thаn 50%. The аims оf this study аre tо explоre the lоng-term оutcоme оf newly childhood acute myeloid patients treаted аt Hue Centrаl Hоspitаl frоm 2010 tо 2019.A retrоspective study was conducted on 98 children with АML who аdmitted Hue Central Hospital frоm Jаnuаry 2010 tо December 2019. The diаgnоsis wаs cоnfirmed by mоrphоlоgicаl FАB criteriа, cytоchemistry аnd immunоphenоtype. Pаtients were treаted with using mоdified АML 7-3 Regimen. Sоciаl suppоrts were prоvided tо pаtients/fаmilies. А tоtаl оf 98 children with АML were аnаlyzed with meаn аge оf 5.6 yeаrs rаnging frоm 3 mоnths tо 15 yeаrs. The mаle tо femаle rаtiо wаs 1.8:1. The оverаll cоmplete remissiоn rаte after inductiоn were 82.6%. Pаtients аccоunted fоr 46 (46.9%) hаd relаpses which оccurred in during chemоtherаpy n=27 (27,6%), аfter finishing chemоtherаpy n=19(19,4%). Оverаll survivаl аt 3 yeаrs were 23.2%. The event-free survivаl аt 3 yeаrs were 20.2%. Аbаndоnment cаses were 4 (4.1%). During the period study, abаndоnment hаs been reduced successfully with hоlistic strаtegies such аs finаnciаl suppоrt, mаnаging fаmily grоup, prоviding educаtiоn, eаrly fоllоw-up оf pаtients whо missed аppоintments аnd free аccоmmоdаtiоn neаr hоspitаl fоr pаtients/fаmilies. However, with a high rate patient achieved complete remission after induction phase (82.6%), but the overal survival and event-free survival at 3 years were still low in my hospital (23.2 % and 20.2% respectively). It reflected that it was very difficult to treat successfully AML in lowand middle-income countries. We are considering the way how to improve the quality treatment for childhood acute myeloid leukemia in my hospital.

Aim . To analyze the common cause of death in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients. Methods and Materials . A retrospective descriptive study on children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia who died at Hue Central Hospital between 2008 and 2018. All the patients were treated with the same protocol of modified Children’s Cancer Group 1882 and 1881. Results . A total of 238 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia who were cared for at our center were enrolled. Of these, there were 74 deaths. Among the death group, the male-to-female ratio was 2.7:1. Twenty-six (35.1%) occurred in maintenance phase, 18 (24.3%) occurred in induction phase, and 9 (12.2%) occurred in delayed intensification. Infection was responsible for deaths in 32 of 74 (43.2%) cases. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found in 3 of 32 infected cases (9.4%) and resistance to almost all antibiotics in our hospital. Relapse, abandonment, and bleeding were documented in 20 (27.0%), 7 (9.5%), and 6 (8.1%) cases, respectively. Twenty-seven (84.3%) patients had absolute neutrophil count

The environmental concern has become an emerging topic in organization’s human resource management strategy, especially in improving employee’s environmental behavior at work. Thus, the organizational citizenship behavior toward the environment (OCBE) has been currently attracting scholars in management. However, published studies contain research gaps in investigation of the relationships between both green training and organizational culture and OCBE, especially in the hotel industry. Following the social exchange and Ability-Motivation-Opportunity theories, this study aims to examine the effects of two green practices on OCBE and the moderating role of green organizational culture to the effect of green training on OCBE. A quantitative approach with survey strategy is employed and conducted in 4-5 star hotels to test these relationships. The PLS-SEM and K-means Cluster Analysis techniques are applied to analyze data. The findings reveal that green training and organizational culture positively influence OCBE. Also, the effect of green training on OCBE is moderated by green organizational culture. Finally, our study provides limitations of research and further studies, and the implications for management practices concerned with improving employee’s voluntary eco-behavior in the hotel industry.

Purpose: Discoveries of oncogenic driver alterations in non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have been accompanied by the development of effective targeted therapies. The frequencies of these mutations vary between populations but are less well characterized in the Vietnamese population. In this study, we analyzed the frequencies of lung cancer driver oncogenic alterations in Vietnamese patients compared with Vietnamese patients treated in the United States. Methods: We collected data on tumor and disease characteristics of Vietnamese patients with NSCLC treated at Stanford. In addition, we collected NSCLC tumor specimens from patients with NSCLC diagnosed in Hue, Vietnam, and performed next-generation–based genotyping on these samples. The molecular and clinical characteristics of these groups were compared. Results: Fifty-nine Vietnamese patients were identified at Stanford. Of the 44 patients with molecular testing results, there were 21 (47.7%) with EGFR alterations, six (13.6%) with ALK alterations, two (4.5%) with KRAS alterations, one (2.3%) with BRAF alterations, and no ROS1 or RET alterations. Across all stages, the median overall survival for patients with a tumor having a targetable genomic alteration driver mutation was 42.4 months, compared with 27.1 months for patients without such alterations. In the 45 genotyped samples from Vietnam, there were 26 (57.8%) with EGFR, 11 (24.4%) with KRAS, and one each (2.2%) with ALK, ROS1, and RET. Conclusion: The majority of tumors from both Stanford and Vietnam had targetable oncogenic alterations. This suggests that routine implementation of molecular testing may have a significant, positive impact on the treatment of Vietnamese patients with NSCLC, but affordability of testing and treatments remains a barrier to adoption.

Thermal reactors have been considered as interim solution for transmutation of minor actinides recycled from spent nuclear fuel. Various studies have been performed in recent decades to realize this possibility. This paper presents the neutronic feasibility study on transmutation of minor actinides as burnable poison in the VVER-1000 LEU (low enriched uranium) fuel assembly. The VVER-1000 LEU fuel assembly was modeled using the SRAC code system, and the SRAC calculation model was verified against the MCNP6 calculations and the available published benchmark data. Two models of minor actinide loading in the LEU fuel assembly have been investigated: homogeneous mixing in the UGD (Uranium-Gadolinium) pins and coating a thin layer to the UGD pins. The consequent negative reactivity insertion by minor actinides was compensated by reducing the gadolinium content and boron concentration. The reactivity of the LEU assembly versus burnup and the transmutation of minor actinide nuclides were examined in comparison with the reference case. The results demonstrate that transmutation of minor actinides as burnable poison in the VVER-1000 reactor is feasible as minor actinides could partially replace the functions of gadolinium and boric acid for excess reactivity control.

We construct a hyperbolic approximation of the Vlasov equation using a method of reduction [10, 14, 22] in which the dependency on the velocity variable is removed. The reduction relies on a semi-discrete finite element approximation in the velocity variable. We apply Gauss-Lobatto numerical integration in velocity space, reducing the hyperbolic system to a system of transport equations for which the transport velocities are the Gauss-Lobatto points. The transport equations are coupled through a zero-order term that represents the electromagnetic forces. We solve the resulting system by a splitting approach: the homogeneous transport equations are solved by a split semi-Lagrangian method and the source term is applied independently. We also present preliminary comparisons with another transport solver based on the discontinuous Galerkin method.

Clay mineralogy and major-element geochemistry of Miocene sedimentary rock and modern river sediment samples collected from the Ba River basin in central Vietnam are used to evaluate the chemical weathering processes during the Miocene and the present time. The results show that Miocene andesitic sedimentary rocks consist of high smectite (average 72%) with moderate kaolinite (24%), while Miocene felsic sedimentary rocks display abundant kaolinite (65%) with moderate smectite (25%). In comparison, modern river sediments are characterized by moderate smectite (43%) and kaolinite (37%). The typical distribution of clay minerals in the Ba River basin can be resulted from abundant occurrence of felsic intrusive rocks and volcanic rocks along with weak tectonic uplift and the tropical East Asian monsoon climate during the Miocene and in the present time. Despite their different clay mineralogical compositions, major elements of these Miocene sedimentary rocks and modern river sediments display stronger depletion of Ca, Na and Mg than of K and Si during the chemical weathering. The chemical index of alteration (CIA) combined with kaolinite/illite ratio demonstrated moderate chemical weathering during the Miocene and in the present time in central Vietnam, demonstrating similar tectonic activity and climatic conditions occurred during these two periods.

Background: Acute respiratory infections (ARI) are among the leading causes of hospitalization in children ≤5 years old. Rapid diagnostics of viral pathogens is essential to avoid unnecessary antibiotic treatment, thereby slowing down antibiotic-resistance. We evaluated the diagnostic performance of the Luminex xTAG Respiratory Viral Panel FAST v2 against viral specific PCR as reference assays for ARI in Vietnam. Methods: Four hundred and forty two nose and throat swabs were collected in viral transport medium, and were tested with Luminex xTAG Respiratory Viral Panel FAST v2. Multiplex RT-PCR and single RT-PCR were used as references. Results: Overall, sensitivity of the Luminex against reference assays was 91.8%, 95% CI 88.1-94.7 (270/294), whilst 112/6336 (1.8%, 95% CI, 1.4-2.1) of pathogens were detected by the Luminex, but not by reference assays. Frequency of pathogens detected by Luminex and reference assays was 379 and 292, respectively. The diagnostic yield was 66.7% (295/442, 95%CI 62.1-71.1%) for the Luminex assay and 54.1% (239/442, 95% CI, 49.3-58.8%) for reference assays. The Luminex kit had higher yields for all viruses except influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and human bocavirus. High agreements between both methods [mean (range): 0.91 (0.83-1.00)] were found for 10/15 viral agents. Conclusions: The Luminex assay is a high throughput multiplex platform for rapid detection of common viral pathogens causing ARI. Although the current high cost may prevent Luminex assays from being widely used, especially in limited resource settings where ARI are felt most, its introduction in clinical diagnostics may help reduce unnecessary use of antibiotic prescription.

Neutronics analysis has been performed for the 500 kW Dalat Nuclear Research Reactor loaded with highly enriched uranium fuel using the SRAC code system. The effective multiplication factors, keff, were analyzed for the core at criticality conditions and in two cases corresponding to the complete withdrawal and the full insertion of control rods. MCNP5 calculations were also conducted and compared to that obtained with the SRAC code. The results show that the difference of the keff values between the codes is within 55 pcm. Compared to the criticality conditions established in the experiments, the maximum differences of the keff values obtained from the SRAC and MCNP5 calculations are 119 pcm and 64 pcm, respectively. The radial and axial power peaking factors are 1.334 and 1.710, respectively, in the case of no control rod insertion. At the criticality condition these values become 1.445 and 1.832 when the control rods are partially inserted. Compared to MCNP5 calculations, the deviation of the relative power densities is less than 4% at the fuel bundles in the middle of the core, while the maximum deviation is about 7% appearing at some peripheral bundles. This agreement indicates the verification of the analysis models.

We construct an hyperbolic approximation of the Fourier transformed Vlasov equation in which the dependency on the spectral-velocity variable is removed. The model is constructed from the Vlasov equation after a Fourier transformation in the velocity variable as in [9]. A well-chosen finite element semi-discretization in the spectral variable leads to an hyperbolic system. The resulting model has interesting conservation and stability properties. It can be numerically solved by standard schemes for hyperbolic systems. We present numerical results for one-dimensional classical test cases in plasma physics: the Landau damping and the two-stream instability.

Abstract Background The cyclin D1 (CCND1) and cyclin D3 (CCND3) are frequently co-overexpressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Here we examine their differential roles in PDAC. Results CCND1 and CCND3 expression were selectively suppressed by shRNA in PDAC cell lines with expression levels of equal CCND1 and CCND3 (BxPC3), enhanced CCND1 (HPAC) or enhanced CCND3 (PANC1). Suppression of cell proliferation was greater with CCND3 than CCND1 downregulation. CCND3 suppression led to a reduced level of phosphorylated retinoblastoma protein (Ser795p-Rb/p110) and resulted in decreased levels of cyclin A mRNA and protein. A global gene expression analysis identified deregulated genes in D1- or D3-cyclin siRNA-treated PANC1 cells. The downregulated gene targets in CCND3 suppressed cells were significantly enriched in cell cycle associated processes (p < 0.005). In contrast, focal adhesion/actin cytoskeleton, MAPK and NF B signaling appeared to characterize the target genes and their interacting proteins in CCND1 suppressed PANC1 cells. Conclusions Our results suggest that CCND3 is the primary driver of the cell cycle, in cooperation with CCND1 that integrates extracellular mitogenic signaling. We also present evidence that CCND1 plays a role in tumor cell migration. The results provide novel insights for common and differential targets of CCND1 and CCND3 overexpression during pancreatic duct cell carcinogenesis.

Abstract Background The pathogenesis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) involves multi-stage development of molecular aberrations affecting signaling pathways that regulate cancer growth and progression. This study was performed to gain a better understanding of the abnormal signaling that occurs in PDAC compared with normal duct epithelia. Methods We performed immunohistochemistry on a tissue microarray of 26 PDAC, 13 normal appearing adjacent pancreatic ductal epithelia, and 12 normal non-PDAC ducts. We compared the levels of 18 signaling proteins including growth factor receptors, tumor suppressors and 13 of their putative downstream phosphorylated (p-) signal transducers in PDAC to those in normal ductal epithelia. Results The overall profiles of signaling protein expression levels, activation states and sub-cellular distribution in PDAC cells were distinguishable from non-neoplastic ductal epithelia. The ERK pathway activation was correlated with high levels of S2448p-mTOR (100%, p = 0.05), T389p-S6K (100%, p = 0.02 and S235/236p-S6 (86%, p = 0.005). Additionally, T389p-S6K correlated with S727p-STAT3 (86%, p = 0.005). Advanced tumors with lymph node metastasis were characterized by high levels of S276p-NFκB (100%, p = 0.05) and S9p-GSK3β (100%, p = 0.05). High levels of PKBβ/AKT2, EGFR, as well as nuclear T202/Y204p-ERK and T180/Y182p-p38 were observed in normal ducts adjacent to PDAC compared with non-cancerous pancreas. Conclusion Multiple signaling proteins are activated in pancreatic duct cell carcinogenesis including those associated with the ERK, PKB/AKT, mTOR and STAT3 pathways. The ERK pathway activation appears also increased in duct epithelia adjacent to carcinoma, suggesting tumor micro-environmental effects.

Abstract Background Computer image analysis techniques have decreased effects of observer biases, and increased the sensitivity and the throughput of immunohistochemistry (IHC) as a tissue-based procedure for the evaluation of diseases. Methods We adapted a Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Key (CMYK) model for automated computer image analysis to quantify IHC stains in hematoxylin counterstained histological sections. Results The spectral characteristics of the chromogens AEC, DAB and NovaRed as well as the counterstain hematoxylin were first determined using CMYK, Red/Green/Blue (RGB), normalized RGB and Hue/Saturation/Lightness (HSL) color models. The contrast of chromogen intensities on a 0–255 scale (24-bit image file) as well as compared to the hematoxylin counterstain was greatest using the Yellow channel of a CMYK color model, suggesting an improved sensitivity for IHC evaluation compared to other color models. An increase in activated STAT3 levels due to growth factor stimulation, quantified using the Yellow channel image analysis was associated with an increase detected by Western blotting. Two clinical image data sets were used to compare the Yellow channel automated method with observer-dependent methods. First, a quantification of DAB-labeled carbonic anhydrase IX hypoxia marker in 414 sections obtained from 138 biopsies of cervical carcinoma showed strong association between Yellow channel and positive color selection results. Second, a linear relationship was also demonstrated between Yellow intensity and visual scoring for NovaRed-labeled epidermal growth factor receptor in 256 non-small cell lung cancer biopsies. Conclusion The Yellow channel image analysis method based on a CMYK color model is independent of observer biases for threshold and positive color selection, applicable to different chromogens, tolerant of hematoxylin, sensitive to small changes in IHC intensity and is applicable to simple automation procedures. These characteristics are advantageous for both basic as well as clinical research in an unbiased, reproducible and high throughput evaluation of IHC intensity.

The emergence of multicancer early detection (MCED) tests holds promise for improving early cancer detection and public health outcomes. However, positive MCED test results require confirmation through recommended cancer diagnostic imaging modalities. To address these challenges, we have developed a consultation and work-up protocol for definitive diagnostic results post MCED testing, named SPOT-MAS. Developed through circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis and in line with professional guidelines and advisory board consensus, this protocol standardizes information to aid general practitioners in accessing, interpreting and managing SPOT-MAS results. Clinical effectiveness is demonstrated through a series of identified cancer cases. Our research indicates that the protocol could empower healthcare professionals to confidently interpret circulating tumor DNA test results for 5 common types of cancer, thereby facilitating the clinical integration of MCED tests.

Purpose: Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and subsequent ocular manifestations may have worse outcomes when compared to matched patients with CD without ocular disease., Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, an aggregated electronic health records research network, TriNetX (Cambridge, MA, USA), was used to identify patients diagnosed with CD stratified by the presence or absence of ocular involvement with at least 1 year of follow-up. Propensity score matching (PSM) was performed to control for baseline demographics and medical comorbidities., Results: Patients with CD with ocular disease showed a greater risk of undergoing bowel resections (RR: 2.06, 95% CI: 1.48-2.85, p  < 0.001), developing other CD-related gastrointestinal complications (RR: 1.31, CI: 1.15-1.49, p  < 0.001), or acquiring Clostridioides difficile infections (RR: 2.19, CI: 1.89-2.54, p  < 0.001). Further, patients with CD with ocular sequelae had a greater risk of developing NASH (RR: 1.43, CI: 1.31-1.56, p  < 0.001), CD-related nutrient deficiencies (RR: 1.38, CI: 1.29-1.49, p  < 0.001), iron deficiency anemia (RR: 1.41, CI: 1.33-1.50, p  < 0.001), CD-related dermatological disease (RR: 1.84, CI: 1.65-2.05, p  < 0.001), osteoporosis (RR: 1.49, CI: 1.37-1.64, p  < 0.001) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (RR: 1.63, CI: 1.11-2.38, p  = 0.011). Among patients with CD with ocular involvement, there was an elevated risk of MI (RR: 1.36, CI: 1.14-1.63, p  < 0.001), stroke (RR: 1.42, CI: 1.18-1.70, p  < 0.001), VTE (RR: 1.37, CI: 1.22-1.54, p  < 0.001), and sepsis (RR: 1.53, CI: 1.37-1.71, p  < 0.001)., Conclusions: Patients who have CD and subsequent ocular involvement have an increased risk of local intestinal complications, extraintestinal morbidity, and cardiovascular complications when compared to patients with CD without ocular involvement.

Background: Parotid sialolithiasis is a common condition in middle-aged individuals, with most cases occurring in the submandibular and sublingual glands, followed by the parotid glands and minor salivary glands. The treatment of salivary gland stones, particularly those of the parotid glands, remains challenging. Endoscopic surgery using a yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG)-holmium laser for parotid sialolithiasis is a minimally invasive approach that provides effective treatment for patients. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of the endoscopic laser treatment of parotid sialolithiasis a YAG-holmium laser., Materials and Methods: A prospective case series study was conducted on 21 patients diagnosed with salivary gland stones in the parotid gland based on clinical features and imaging findings (including ultrasound and computed tomography scans), from March 2022 to March 2024. These patients underwent sialendoscopy surgery using a YAG-holmium laser and were evaluated for surgical results at 2, 4, and 12 weeks., Results: Cases with completely reduced symptoms accounted for 90.5%, whereas cases with partially reduced symptoms accounted for 9.5%. The ultrasound image of the salivary gland after surgery was significantly improved compared to that before surgery. After three months of surgery, most patients (90.5%) were satisfied. The postoperative complication rate was 14.3%, which included scarring at the opening of the salivary gland and in the salivary duct., Conclusion: Sialendoscopic surgery using a YAG-holmium laser for parotid sialolithiasis is a minimally invasive surgical intervention that leaves no scarring, reduces the risk of complications as seen in open surgery, and shortens the postoperative care time for patients., Competing Interests: Human subjects: Consent was obtained or waived by all participants in this study. Background: There are several types of benign renal diseases, such as urological stones, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, renal vascular disease, and inflammation, which are responsible for nonfunctioning kidneys. Laparoscopic nephrectomy (LN) is the gold standard for treating nonfunctioning kidneys with complications. This study presents the results of our initial experiences with 3D laparoscopic nephrectomy (3D-LN) for benign, nonfunctioning kidneys., Methods: From July 2021 to July 2023, 40 consecutive patients who underwent 3D transperitoneal laparoscopic nephrectomy were retrospectively evaluated at the Department of Urology and Department of General Surgery, Hue Central Hospital, Hue, Vietnam. Patient demographics, intraoperative and early postoperative results, postoperative recovery, complications, and three-month follow-up results were recorded., Results: The mean age was 58.35 ± 14.9 years. There were 13 (32.5%) male and 27 (67.5%) female patients. Flank pain was the main reason for hospitalization in 33 cases (82.5%); the common cause of a nonfunctioning kidney was urological stones (62.5%). Twenty-three out of 40 patients underwent a left nephrectomy. The average operative time was 92.57 ± 28.69 minutes. A statistically significant difference in surgery time was found between the group with no adhesion and the group with mild adhesion, as well as between the first 19 patients and the last 18 patients (p <0.05). The mean blood loss was 51.62 ± 24.35 ml. Three cases were converted to open surgery due to severe adhesions. The postoperative complications rate was 8.1%. The average length of the postoperative hospital stay was 7.89 ± 3.59 days., Conclusions: Three-dimensional laparoscopic nephrectomy is a safe and effective method that increases depth perception and spatial orientation for surgeons and can compensate for the remaining shortcomings of traditional 2D systems., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright © 2024, Pham et al.)

Background: Stress is a major public health issue that can impact both physical and mental well-being. It is prevalent in many areas of modern life, including education. Healthcare students are at a high risk of experiencing stress due to the unique demands of their fields of study., Study Design and Methods: An online survey was conducted on 2,515 undergraduate students pursuing degrees in medicine, preventive medicine, pharmacy, and nursing at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Can Tho City, Vietnam., Results: Using the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), it was found that 35.2% of students reported mild stress, 62.7% had moderate stress, and only 2.1% experienced severe stress. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed nine significant factors associated with students' stress levels (p ≤ 0.05). Particularly, medicine students exhibited a significantly higher level of moderate and severe stress (95% CI = 1.22-2.01), 1.57 times higher than preventive medicine students. Sixth-year students had a stress level 1.58 times higher (95% CI = 1.11-2.26) than first-year students. Students achieving excellent and very good academic performances in the last semester had a stress level 1.60 times higher (95% CI = 1.16-2.22) than students with average and lower academic performance. Students living at home had a stress level 1.73 times higher (95% CI = 1.05-2.84) than students living in their relatives' houses. Students who rarely or never had a part-time job during academic years had a stress level 1.70 times higher (95% CI = 1.31-2.20) than those who often or sometimes had a part-time job. Students with a family history of smoking addiction had a stress level 1.69 times higher (95% CI = 1.28-2.22) than students without such a family history. Students who rarely or never received concern and sharing from family had a stress level 7.41 times higher (95% CI = 5.07-10.84) than students who often or sometimes received concern and sharing from family. Students who were often or sometimes cursed by family had a stress level 2.04 times higher (95% CI = 1.09-3.81) than students who were rarely or never cursed by family. Students without close friends had a stress level 1.46 times higher (95% CI = 1.11-1.91) than students with close friends., Conclusions: The rates of mild and moderate stress levels were significantly higher than severe stress level among healthcare students. Research has provided scientific findings as the basis for determining risk factors and imposing solutions that aim to reduce the rate of stress in students. Therefore, it helps students overcome difficulties and enhance their physical and mental health.

Tracing fast nanopore-translocating analytes requires a high-frequency measurement system that warrants a temporal resolution better than 1 µs. This constraint may practically shift the challenge from increasing the sampling bandwidth to dealing with the rapidly growing noise with frequencies typically above 10 kHz, potentially making it still uncertain if all translocation events are unambiguously captured. Here, a numerical simulation model is presented as an alternative to discern translocation events with different experimental settings including pore dimension, bias voltage, the charge state of the analyte, salt concentration, and electrolyte viscosity. The model allows for simultaneous analysis of forces exerting on a large analyte cohort along their individual trajectories; these forces are responsible for the analyte movement leading eventually to the nanopore translocation. Through tracing the analyte trajectories, the Brownian force is found to dominate the analyte movement in electrolytes until the last moment at which the electroosmotic force determines the final translocation act. The mean dwell time of analytes mimicking streptavidin decreases from ≈6 to ≈1 µs with increasing the bias voltage from ±100 to ±500 mV. The simulated translocation events qualitatively agree with the experimental data with streptavidin. The fate and aggregation of nanoparticles (NPs) in the subsurface are important due to potentially harmful impacts on the environment and human health. This study aims to investigate the effects of flow velocity, particle size, and particle concentration on the aggregation rate of NPs in a diffusion-limited regime and build an equation to predict the aggregation rate when NPs move in the pore space between randomly packed spheres (including mono-disperse, bi-disperse, and tri-disperse spheres). The flow of 0.2 M potassium chloride (KCl) through the random sphere packings was simulated by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The movement and aggregation of cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) particles were then examined by using a Lagrangian particle tracking method based on a force balance approach. This method relied on Newton's second law of motion and took the interaction forces among particles into account. The aggregation rate of NPs was found to depend linearly on time, and the slope of the line was a power function of the particle concentration, the Reynolds (Re) and Schmidt (Sc) numbers. The exponent for the Sc number was triple that of the Re number, which was evidence that the random movement of NPs has a much stronger effect on the rate of diffusion-controlled aggregation than the convection., (© 2024. Background: Laparoscopic surgery has brought about a revolution in clinical practice since its inception. Using a new generation three-dimensional (3D) HD laparoscopic system can be seen as a beneficial "hybrid" created by fusing two different elements: increased vision quality and the viability and diffusion of laparoscopy. This study aims to determine the surgical outcomes and two-year survival of colorectal cancer patients after 3D laparoscopic surgery., Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 60 patients with a definitive diagnosis of primary colorectal cancer. All patients underwent 3D laparoscopic colorectal resection from January 2020 to December 2021 by a single surgical team. Data were prospectively collected from Hue Central Hospital, including operative parameters and survival time., Results: The mean age was 62.0 ± 10.6 years old. D3 lymphadenectomy accounted for most cases (96.7 %). There were no intraoperative complications or conversion to open surgery. The mean operation time was 162.3 ± 25.8 min. Postoperative complications included incisional fluid collection (5 %), wound infection (3.3 %), and drainage site bleeding (1.7 %). The average length of hospital stay was 10.4 ± 4.6 days. Overall survival rate after two years was 93 %., Conclusions: 3D laparoscopic surgery for radical treatment of colorectal cancer is feasible, effective, and safe. Hypothesis: The main hypothesis is that the aggregation process for nanoparticles (NPs) propagating in porous media is affected by the structure of the flow field as well as by the properties of the primary NPs. If this were true, then the aggregation could be predicted and controlled. However, to obtain reliable results from computations, one needs to account for the interactions between the NPs as well as the details of the fluid velocity, thus making advances over prior efforts that either ignored the aggregation of NPs, or used probabilistic methods to model aggregation., Experiments: Computational experiments were conducted using the lattice Boltzmann method in conjunction with Lagrangian particle tracking (LPT). The LPT accounted for the physicochemical interaction forces among NPs. Computationally obtained aggregation kinetics and fractal dimensions of Cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) particles, suspended in potassium chloride (KCl) solutions with different concentration, were verified against experimental results. The model was then employed to investigate the effects of ionic strength, fluid velocity, and particle size on the aggregation kinetics and the aggregate morphology, as NPs propagated in the pore space between randomly packed spheres., Findings: The aim of this study was to develop a computational model to simulate the aggregation of NPs and obtain the morphology of aggregates in confined geometries, based on the physics of NP interactions and the flow field. The most important factor that impacted both the aggregation process and the aggregate structure was found to be the concentration of the electrolyte. The pore velocity influenced the aggregation kinetics and the NP fractal dimension, especially in diffusion-limited aggregation. For decades, the sulfido molybdenum complexes like [MoS 4 ] 2- , [Mo 2 S 12 ] 2- , [Mo 3 S 13 ] 2- have gained great attention because of their chemical versatility as well as their structural similarity to the edge-plan of the molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) which shows promising catalytic ability for the H 2 generation. In this work, we report on the investigation of the dinuclear complex [Mo 2 S 12 ] 2- in both organic and aqueous solution. We demonstrate that [Mo 2 S 12 ] 2- is not intact during the H 2 evolution catalysis when it is assayed as a homogeneous catalyst in an electrolyte solution (e. g. in DMF or water solvent) nor when it is immobilized on an electrode surface (e. g. mesoporous carbon black). It transforms into the polymeric amorphous molybdenum sulfide [MoS] which subsequently acts as an actual catalyst. We discuss on the possible [Mo 2 S 12 ] 2- to [MoS] transformation mechanism by employing an arsenal of electrochemical analysis, spectroscopic analyses and microscopic analyses. Introduction: Food insecurity is prevalent in the U.S. and is associated with deleterious health, behavioral, and social consequences. Food insecurity is currently addressed largely through public and private food assistance programs (e.g., the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program, and food pantries). A body of research has explored racial and ethnic disparities and differences in food insecurity and coping strategies. However, limited literature has explored these experiences among Asian Americans and Asian origin groups in the United States., Objective: The aim of this review is to establish what is known about the experience of food insecurity and nutrition program participation in the Asian American population and among Asian origin groups and to suggest further research and policy action to better address food insecurity in this population., Methods: Our review is guided by the methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley and refined and outlined by Levac and colleagues and the Joanna Briggs Institute. We will search key terms related to food insecurity and Asian Americans in Medline (Ovid), the Cochrane Library (Wiley), CINAHL Plus with Full Text (Ebsco), PsycINFO (Ebsco), and Scopus (Elsevier). An article will be included if it was published in the English language; is a peer reviewed research manuscript and reports primary research findings from analyses; and describes food insecurity or strategies to cope with food insecurity among individuals of Asian origins living in the U.S. An article will be excluded if it is a book, conference proceedings, or grey literature (e.g., thesis or dissertation); is a commentary, editorial, or opinion piece without primary research data; contains only research conducted outside of the U.S.; includes Asians in the sample but does not provide separate data on food insecurity or strategies to cope with food insecurity among Asians; and describes only dietary changes or patterns but not food insecurity. Two or more reviewers will participate in the study screening and selection process. We will record information from the final articles chosen to be included in the review in a data table template and will also prepare a summary narrative with key findings., Expected Outputs: Results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. (1) Background: Magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ) nanoparticles have great potential for biomedical applications, including hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging. In this study, we aimed to identify the biological activity of nanoconjugates composed of superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles coated with alginate and curcumin (Fe 3 O 4 /Cur@ALG) in cancer cells. (2) Methods: The nanoparticles were evaluated for the biocompatibility and toxicity on mice. The MRI enhancement and hyperthermia capacities of Fe 3 O 4 /Cur@ALG were determined in both in vitro and in vivo sarcoma models. (3) Results: The results show that the magnetite nanoparticles exhibit high biocompatibility and low toxicity in mice at Fe 3 O 4 concentrations up to 120 mg/kg when administered via intravenous injection. The Fe 3 O 4 /Cur@ALG nanoparticles enhance the magnetic resonance imaging contrast in cell cultures and tumor-bearing Swiss mice. The autofluorescence of curcumin also allowed us to observe the penetration of the nanoparticles into sarcoma 180 cells. In particular, the nanoconjugates synergistically inhibit the growth of sarcoma 180 tumors via magnetic heating and the anticancer effects of curcumin, both in vitro and in vivo. (4) Conclusions: Our study reveals that Fe 3 O 4 /Cur@ALG has a high potential for medicinal applications and should be further developed for cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Overcrowding in hospitals in Vietnam has caused many disadvantages in receiving and treating patients. Especially at the stage of receiving and diagnosing procedures taking patients to the treatment departments in the hospital takes up much time. This study proposes a text-based disease diagnosis using text processing techniques (such as Bag of Words, Term Frequency- Inverse Document Frequency, and Tokenizer) combined with classifiers (such as Random Forests (RF), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Embeddings and Bidirectional Long Short-term memory (LSTM)) on symptoms. As observed from the results, deep Bidirectional LSTM can reach 0.982 in AUC in the classification of 10 diseases on 230,457 samples of pre-diagnosis collected from Vietnam hospitals used in the training and testing phases. Purpose: To collect a dataset with adequate laryngoscopy images and identify the appearance of vocal folds and their lesions in flexible laryngoscopy images by objective deep learning models., Methods: We adopted a number of novel deep learning models to train and classify 4549 flexible laryngoscopy images as no vocal fold, normal vocal folds, and abnormal vocal folds. This could help these models recognize vocal folds and their lesions within these images. Ultimately, we made a comparison between the results of the state-of-the-art deep learning models, and another comparison of the results between the computer-aided classification system and ENT doctors., Results: This study exhibited the performance of the deep learning models by evaluating laryngoscopy images collected from 876 patients. The efficiency of the Xception model was higher and steadier than almost the rest of the models. The accuracy of no vocal fold, normal vocal folds, and vocal fold abnormalities on this model were 98.90 %, 97.36 %, and 96.26 %, respectively. The SPOT-MAS assay "Screening for the Presence Of Tumor by Methylation And Size" detects the five most common cancers in Vietnam by evaluating circulating tumor DNA in the blood. Here, we validated its performance in a prospective multi-center clinical trial, K-DETEK. Our analysis of 2795 participants from 14 sites across Vietnam demonstrates its ability to detect cancers in asymptomatic individuals with a positive predictive value of 60%, with 83.3% accuracy in detecting tumor location. We present a case report to support further using SPOT-MAS as a complementary method to achieve early cancer detection and provide the opportunity for early treatment.

Insights into the pathophysiology of many non-immune-mediated drug reactions referred to as toxicities, sensitivities, intolerances, or pseudoallergies have resulted from research identifying the mastocyte-related G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) member X2 (MRGPRX2), a human mast cell receptor mediating adverse reactions without the involvement of antibody priming. Opioid-induced degranulation of mast cells, particularly morphine, provoking release of histamine and other preformed mediators and causing hemodynamic and cutaneous changes seen as flushing, headache and wheal and flare reactions in the skin, is an example of results of MRGPRX2 activation. Opioids including morphine, codeine, dextromethorphan and metazocine as well as endogenous prodynorphin opioid peptides activate MRGPRX2 at concentrations causing mast cell degranulation. Unlike the canonical opioid receptors, MRGPRX2 shows stereochemical recognition preference for dextro rather than levo opioid enantiomers. Opioid analgesic drugs (OADs) display a range of histamine-releasing potencies from the strong releaser morphine to doubtful releasers like hydromorphone and the non-releaser fentanyl. Whether there is a correlation between histamine release by individual OADs, MRGPRX2 activation, and presence or absence of adverse cutaneous effects is not known. To investigate the question, ongoing research with recently pursued methodologies and strategies employing basophil and mast cell tests resulting from MRGPRX2 insights should help to elucidate whether or not an opioid's histamine-releasing potency, and its property of provoking an adverse reaction, are each a reflection of its activation of MRGPRX2., (© 2022. Sugarcane is one of the most important industrial crops in Vietnam and covers a total of 127,000 hectares of plantation area. In the season 2020-2021, Vietnam has produced 0.763 million tons of sugar (accounting for 0.34% total world sugar production). A current sugarcane production of 7.498 million tons is being used mainly for sugar production for direct consumption, ethanol production, bio-electricity and fertilization. To ensure crop sustainability, various policies and plans have been implemented. Crop breeding and zoning improvement programme significantly influence sugarcane production and sugar yield. Over 25 years since the programme "one million ton of sugar" was promoted, Vietnam currently possesses 25 sugar mills with a total capacity of 110,000 tons of sugarcane per day. Major problems of sugarcane industry as well as research and development have been discussed in this review. Recent research and development work focused on the added values of co-products to ensure sustainability of the sugarcane industry. Molasses will be used for ethanol production, and bagasse is used as the biomass for the alternative energy. Sugarcane and sugar would be the main feedstocks for those bio-economy growths in Vietnam. Staphylococcus aureus biofilms are poorly responsive to antibiotics. Underlying reasons include a matrix effect preventing drug access to embedded bacteria, or the presence of dormant bacteria with reduced growth rate. Using 18 clinical isolates previously characterized for their moxifloxacin-resistant and moxifloxacin-persister character in stationary-phase culture, we studied their biofilm production and matrix composition and the anti-biofilm activity of moxifloxacin. Biofilms were grown in microtiter plates and their abundance quantified by crystal violet staining and colony counting; their content in polysaccharides, extracellular DNA and proteins was measured. Moxifloxacin activity was assessed after 24 h of incubation with a broad range of concentrations to establish full concentration-response curves. All clinical isolates produced more biofilm biomass than the reference strain ATCC 25923, the difference being more important for those with high relative persister fractions to moxifloxacin, most of which being also resistant. High biofilm producers expressed icaA to higher levels, enriching the matrix in polysaccharides. Moxifloxacin was less potent against biofilms from clinical isolates than from ATCC 25923, especially against moxifloxacin-resistant isolates with high persister fractions, which was ascribed to a lower concentration of moxifloxacin in these biofilms. Time-kill curves in biofilms revealed the presence of a moxifloxacin-tolerant subpopulation, with low multiplication capacity, whatever the persister character of the isolate.
