The Kazerun transverse fault truncate divides the Zagros fold-thrust belt into the Fars and Lorestan-Khuzestan zones of the Zagros Mountain, Iran. Tectonic activity of the Kazerun fault zone causes uplifting and further flexuring of the Gisakan anticline in the Zagros Mountain and consequently brings outcropping of potential hydrocarbon sources and reservoir rocks (older than middle Cretaceous to Miocene). The presence of oil seepage (i.e. oil spring) in the southwestern flank of the dry anticline in the study area appears to originate from nearby oil fields. In this research an attempt has been made to emphasize the role of the Kazerun fault. Using geoinformation technology (GiT) such as remote sensing and several field investigations the presence of the Kazerun fault zone (KFZ) can be emphasized. This integrates with subsurface structures to increase the accuracy of opportunity for oil exploration. GIS techniques are used to analyse the role of the Kazerun fault for oil seepage. The results showed that KFZ cuts through the Nargesi oil field in the Zagros Mountain. It probably generates oil drainage from the Nargesi oil field to the southwestern flank of the Gisakan dry anticline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Izeh fault zone is a transverse fault zone with dextral strike slip (and some reverse component) in the Zagros Mountains (Iran). It causes some structural deformations. This fault zone is acting as eastern boundary of Dezful Embayment and forms subsidence of the embayment. The fault has been recognized using remote sensing techniques in conjunction with surface and subsurface analyses. The stratigraphic columns have been prepared in 3D form using Geographical Information System (GIS) tools on the basis of structural styles and thickness of lithologic units. Height differences for erosion levels have been calculated in stratigraphic columns with respect to the subsidence in the Dezful Embayment, which is related to Izeh zone. These height differences have been estimated to be 5,430 m in the central part (and 5,844 m in the northern part) from the Eocene to recent times. This study shows that comparison of the same erosion levels in Asmari-Pabdeh formation boundaries for interior and eastern block of the Izeh fault zone with the absolute uplifting due to the fault activity which is about 533 m per million years in the Izeh zone. The present study reveals that subtracting the absolute uplifting from total subsidence; the real subsidence of Dezful embayment from Eocene to Recent is 0.13 mm/year. The Ms 7.0 Jiuzhaigou earthquake that occurred on 8 August 2017 triggered hundreds of landslides in the Jiuzhaigou valley scenic and historic-interest area in Sichuan, China, causing heavy casualties and serious property losses. Quick and accurate mapping of post-disaster landslide distribution is of paramount importance for earthquake emergency rescue and the analysis of post-seismic landslides distribution characteristics. The automatic identification of landslides is mostly based on medium- and low-resolution satellite-borne optical remote-sensing imageries, and the high-accuracy interpretation of earthquake-triggered landslides still relies on time-consuming manual interpretation. This paper describes a methodology based on the use of 1 m high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) imagery acquired after the earthquake, and proposes a support vector machine (SVM) classification method combining the roads and villages mask from pre-seismic remote sensing imagery to accurately and automatically map the landslide inventory. Compared with the results of manual visual interpretation, the automatic recognition accuracy could reach 99.89%, and the Kappa coefficient was higher than 0.9, suggesting that the proposed method and 1 m high-resolution UAV imagery greatly improved the mapping accuracy of the landslide area. We also analyzed the spatial-distribution characteristics of earthquake-triggered landslides with the influenced factors of altitude, slope gradient, slope aspect, and the nearest faults, which provided important support for the further study of post-disaster landslide distribution characteristics, susceptibility prediction, and risk assessment. • Ecological footprint measurement and emergy analysis are necessary as appropriate tools to achieve the principles of sustainability in the ecosystem of different systems. • This study investigated the ecological sustainability of two production systems of irrigated wheat and grain maize using ecological footprint evaluation and emergy analysis. • This study is the first study from Iran that uses these two tools simultaneously to determine the sustainability assessment of two strategic products of the region. • In both stability indices, it was found that the ecosystem of irrigated wheat production is more desirable than grain maize in terms of yield, renewability, and environmental sustainability. Efficient farm management is one of the most important issues in achieving Sustainable performance. Ecological Footprint (EF) measurement and Emergy Analysis (EA) are appropriate tools to achieve the principles of sustainability in different ecosystems. This study aimed to compare the indicators and determine the ecological sustainability of two cropping systems of irrigated wheat and grain maize using ecological footprint evaluation and emergy analysis in the catchment area of Dez in Iran in the crop year 2019–2020. For this purpose, a total of 400 questionnaires from wheat and maize farmers were collected based on a simple random sampling method. The results of evaluating the ecological footprint method of wheat and maize cultivation in the study area at the level of one hectare were 3.50 and 4.66 global hectares, respectively. Also, the results of total emergy inputs for the ecological system of wheat and maize production were 1.60E+16 and 2.55E+16 sej ha−1 per year, respectively. This study showed that the two methods EF and EA are complementary. The evaluation results of both sustainability indices were very close to each other so both cultivation systems were environmentally unsustainable. We also found that the ecosystem of the irrigated wheat production system is more desirable than the ecosystem of the maize production system in terms of yield, renewability, and environmental sustainability. Since both cropping systems are strongly affected by the purchased inputs (more than 95%), as a result, they create a high environmental pressure, which shows the apprehensive condition of the current agricultural production systems in Iran.
