This paper explores the use of emotions by the top ten Public Relations agencies in Romania (according to BIZ Magazine) in the content they posted on their official Facebook pages in 2018. The research tries to identify what emotions are present in the social media (Facebook) discourse of the agencies, how emotions and topics connect, and what characteristics of the social media profile of a PR agency can be revealed through the investigation of the emotions it uses in its posts. This paper is anchored in Robert Plutchik’s theory of emotions. I used content analysis and social network analysis, connecting attributes of the 925 posts and generating undirectional networks. The comparative analysis was focused on the profile of the agencies and the diversity of practices and attitudes of the Romanian PR industry. The research confirmed expectations that the emotions selected by the agencies were primarily from the positive, constructive spectrum. The unexpected conclusions came from the connection with topics, as a focus on projects, people or industry changed the emotion the post is associated with. While a concern for content is visible, I cannot state that there is a strategic integration of content trends and emotion awareness. This research can be used by agencies to replicate the analysis for a multi-annual exploration of their Facebook activity in order to optimize their digital identity and strategy. The originality of the paper is represented by the scale of the analysis done on a topic that has benefited from little or no exploration.

This study examined how the 117 Twitter profiles maintained by U.S. headquartered agencies appearing in the 2017 Global Top 250 PR Agencies list from the Holmes Report are using this platform to communicate with their publics. Guided by the dialogic communication theory, a content analysis of 1,120 tweets (from the 112 agencies identified as having public active accounts) published between January and October 2017 were analyzed to better understand the content strategies implemented by these agencies as well as the relationship between levels of public engagement and the implementation of dialogic principles. Additionally, this study placed a special emphasis on thought leadership and the means being employed by agencies to introduce and promote their ideas. The study's results suggest that while media vividness increases the public's levels of engagement, interactivity has an inverse effect. At the same time, the findings indicate that agencies are not fully employing the dialogic capacity of Twitter. From a strategic point of view, this study provides significant implications for social media communication practices by public relations agencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is a summary of three quantitative research projects carried out in the years 2017-2018 taking into account a set of analogous questions. Their collective aggregation allows the attempt to present the profile of a Polish PR specialist with the indication of the main activities undertaken while performing daily professional duties. The research has shown that media relations and e-PR play a key role in everyday professional work. Nevertheless, a PR specialist in Poland has to deal with many task areas, which are often related to the dynamic development of new technologies, such as relations with influencers. In the analyses, the key diagnostic element was the measurement of professional experience and information regarding employment aspects. Respondents constituted both specialists working in PR agencies as well as in other domestic companies and institutions. This article presents a general analysis of the communication industry in Costa Rica and aims to be a way to approach a better understanding of the future of this area and the profession. The study, a survey of 100 companies in the sector, gives clues about how the communication industry is constituted in the country (sizes of companies, geographic scope, number and profile of collaborators, among others) and what its contributions to the national economy are (billing, out-sourcing and pro-bono work). As this is an exploratory study, it is expected that the findings will stimulate discussion in the industry and in the academic community and that this will result in the generation of future studies of greater depth. Public relations agencies are an important part of the public relations industry, but their relations with client organizations are rarely studied. There is more literature and studies in agency-client relations in advertising than in public relations. This paper reviews literature and reports results of an empirical study into perceptions of public relations agencies and their clients on the reasons for their cooperation and sources of conflict between them. Results show that agencies misperceive reasons for which they are hired and the sources of conflict in the relationship. The paper offers several suggestions about how to tackle the problem: notwithstanding rebranding into consultancies and firms, public relations agencies-client relations should be studied as a particular example of a broader family of agency-client relations. Also agencies should study and strategically manage relations with their clients, while being realistic about client organization’s needs – sometimes they just need additional arms and legs. This article reports the results of a research conducted among a group of 55 CEOs of public relations and communication consulting agencies in Colombia. It aims at determining if strategic orientation predominates in the services for which these agencies are hired. As it has been found, some of them focus their business on this perspective. Nevertheless, there is a higher volume of technical services, such as free press and journalistic media relations. The increase in services in recent years has been due, among other reasons, to the good moment of Colombian economy. The reasons for hiring an agency are its prestige and reputation. However, this result contrasts with the argument presented by the interviewed executives as the main impediment to their practice as consultants: the lack of knowledge of their work on the part of clients. Community management has emerged as a new profession since the advent of web 2.0. Professional positions and functions have been consolidated and standardized within corporate communication; consequently, many organizations hire community management services or agencies. This paper discusses the roles of the professionals who are responsible for community management in Spanish advertising and public relations agencies. A survey identified the typical profile of a professional in this field: a woman, aged 25-35 years, journalism degree, with two to three years previous digital media experience. Conglomerates have been increasing in size to also include different media industries. Public relations has not been immune from conglomerate mergers. However, the inter-related economic and structural dimensions of public relations within a conglomerate are often undermined in the relevant literature. The existing literature shows lack of studies on these dimensions. This research investigates the degree of conglomeration among the top American PR agencies and the characteristics of these conglomerated agencies. Using industrial organization theory as the theoretical framework, the findings revealed that 24% of the leading public relations agencies in the United States are part of conglomerates. These agencies tend to be located in large metropolitan areas, have a relatively small number of employees and have considerable net fees. The study also found strong and positive statistical correlations between conglomerated PR agencies when compared to un-conglomerated in variables such as agency's location, primary service and net fees. The advertising and public relations agencies' web sites include the visual elements in order to meet the targets of the corporate identity as well as philosophy of the corporation. The aim of this study is to examine web sites as being a public relations instrument as well for advertising and public relations company, and to find out in what they contain strategic communication potentials. Within the frame study of this work, the web sites of advertising and public relations agencies' in Turkey are analyzed for the characteristic of the publicity of company, communication tools, media relations, corporate identy, corporate publications, news releases, social media and interactivity. The study is realized by the content analysis that is one of the qualitative research method by investigating the web sites of the advertising and puclic relations' agencies. Abstract: By most accounts, crisis preparedness in organizations globally has been appalling (Burnett, 1998; Pinsdorf, 1991). The situation is no different in Singapore (Wu & Dai, 2001). With crisis expertise often lacking from within organizations, many resort to engaging public relations (PR) agencies to help. This study, which is inspired by Frandsen and Johansen''s (2008) study in Denmark, aims to evaluate the contributions of consultants from PR agencies. Adapting indicators to assess professionalism proposed by Lages and Simkin (2003) and Sallot, Cameron and Lariscy (1997) and integrating them with variables from the contingency theory (Pang, Jin, & Cameron, 2010), this study seeks to examine: (1) the level of expertise of consultants in offering crisis management consultancy; (2) the level of experience of consultants offering crisis management consultancy; and (3) the value and expedience of the consultancy services offered. Findings showed that agencies in Singapore hired consultants based on skills such as writing, speaking and ability to manage the media. For some, lack of direct experience was compensated by in-house training. International agencies appeared to have an advantage over the local agencies by virtue of their access to expertise and knowledge from their international network. However, as the majority of agencies had only managed few crises, it was difficult to assess the value these consultants added. Studies examining consultants in PR agencies are rare. The results revealed that although M&A activities in the public relations industry increased in the decade between the early 1980s and early 1990s, they began to drop in the early 1990s.
