Introduction: The Emergency Department (ED) is the point of first contact for any critically ill patient needing immediate medical attention. EDs use a triage system which ensures people who are critically ill are treated first. Turnaround Time (TAT) for the ED is taken as the time from the patient’s arrival in the ED to either their hospitalisation or discharge. Aim: To estimate the TAT of patients in the ED at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from August 1 to August 31, 2022, at the ED of Himalayan Hospital, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. A sample size of 300 patients were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected by direct observation using a data collection sheet. Timings were recorded with the help of a stopwatch. Statistical analysis was performed using the data analysis tool in Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. Abstract Background Titanium is a commonly used material for dental implants owing to its excellent biocompatibility, strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, lightweight nature, hypoallergenic properties, and ability to promote tissue adhesion. However, alternative materials, such as titanium alloys (Ti–Al-2 V) and zirconia, are available for dental implant applications. This study discusses the application of Density Functional Theory (DFT) in evaluating dental implant materials' mechanical properties and structural stability, with a specific focus on titanium (Ti) metal. It also discusses the electronic band structures, dynamic stability, and surface properties. Furthermore, it presents the mechanical properties of Ti metal, Ti–Al-2 V alloy, and zirconia, including the stiffness matrices, average properties, and elastic moduli. This research comprehensively studies Ti metal's mechanical properties, structural stability, and surface properties for dental implants. Methods We used computational techniques, such as the CASTEP code based on DFT, GGA within the PBE scheme for evaluating electronic exchange–correlation energy, and the BFGS minimization scheme for geometry optimization. The results provide insights into the structural properties of Ti, Ti–Al-2 V, and zirconia, including their crystal structures, space groups, and atomic positions. Elastic properties, Fermi surface analysis, and phonon studies were conducted to evaluate the tensile strength, yield strength, ductility, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, hardness, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance. Results The findings were compared with those of Ti–Al-2 V and zirconia to assess the advantages and limitations of each material for dental implant applications. This study demonstrates the application of DFT in evaluating dental implant materials, focusing on titanium, and provides valuable insights into their mechanical properties, structural stability, and surface characteristics. Conclusions The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of dental implant material behavior and aid in the design of improved materials with long-term biocompatibility and stability in the oral environment.

Introduction: The Outpatient Department (OPD) holds significant relevance in modern medical care and serves as the “Shop Window” of the hospital. Waiting time serves as a crucial indicator of the quality of OPD services provided by the hospital, as it greatly affects patient satisfaction. Radiation oncology is a clinical specialty that focuses on administering radiation therapy to cancer patients, who seek consultation in the radiation oncology OPD. Aim: To estimate the waiting time and consultation duration for patients in the OPD of radiation oncology at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from August 1 to August 31, 2022, at the Cancer Research Institute of Himalayan Hospital, which is the affiliated hospital of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences under the aegis of Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. A total sample size of 300 patients was selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data was collected through direct observation using a data collection sheet. Statistical analysis was performed using the data analysis tool in Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0. Pearson coefficient of correlation (r) and p-value were calculated. Results: The results were analysed based on demographic details, days of the week, patients seen per consultation room, new and follow-up patients, and patient arrival time in the OPD. The majority of patients attending the OPD were in the age group of 50-69 years (60.6%). A total of 256 patients (85%) were follow-up patients. Analysis of the patient arrival pattern revealed that the highest number of patients, 200 (66.7%), arrived between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. The overall mean waiting time was estimated to be 50.43±0.030 minutes, and the mean consultation time was estimated to be 9.53±0.004 minutes. The Pearson coefficient of correlation between the two variables was calculated, revealing a positive correlation with ‘r’ value=0.14 and a statistically significant p-value=0.014 (

Introduction: Advances and commitment to patient safety worldwide have grown since the late 1990s which have led to a remarkable transformation in the way patient safety is viewed. Having begun as a subject of minor academic interest, it is now embedded in most healthcare systems worldwide. The International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG) are important guidelines developed by Joint Commission International to promote safe and high-quality patient care. Patient safety is the responsibility of every healthcare personnel who is directly or indirectly involved in patient care. Aim: To determine the level of awareness amongst doctors, nurses and technicians and their compliance to IPSG in a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: This observational cross-sectional study was conducted from March to May 2021, in a tertiary care teaching hospital of North India. Stratified sampling technique was used in determining the number of doctors, nurses and technicians required for this study. A validated questionnaire was used to assess the awareness level of healthcare personnel to IPSG. ‘1’ mark was assigned to each correct answer and ‘0’ were awarded to wrong answers. The data was collected and coded in a Microsoft excel database. Descriptive data analysis was done. Results: A total of 394 patient records/documents were audited for patient safety compliance. It was observed that 339 (86%) documents revealed compliance to all six IPSG. Out of the six goals of IPSG, the best compliance was observed for the fourth goal of IPSG (ensure safe surgery) for which the compliance was 100%. The lowest compliance was observed for 2nd, 5th and 6th goal (improve effective communication, reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection and reduce the patient harm resulting from fall) which was 81%, 80% and 78%, respectively. The awareness questionnaire was given to doctors (n=60), nurses (n=86) and technicians (n=76). The findings revealed that awareness was highest in nurses (84.8%) followed by doctors (81.7%) and technicians (80.2%). Conclusion: The study has found out that the awareness level of doctors, nurses and technicians towards patient safety goals is good. Further quality improvement in this field can be achieved by conducting on the job training, workshops, lectures and seminars.
