The investigation on the oscillatory and asymptotic properties of differential equations plays an important role in many applications, such as engineering, physics and medicine. In this work, we establish some new sufficient conditions for both the oscillatory and asymptotic behavior of the solutions to a second-order neutral impulsive differential system (IDS, for short) with deviating argument and fixed moments of impulse effect under both canonical and non-canonical operators with various values of the neutral coefficient. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the oscillatory behaviour of a class of first-order sublinear and superlinear neutral difference equations. We investigate relationships between the sign of the discrete fractional sequential difference ( Δ 1 + a − μ ν Δ a μ f) (t) and the convexity of the function t ↦ f (t). In particular, we consider the case in which the bound ( Δ 1 + a − μ ν Δ a μ f) (t) ≥ ε f (a) , for some ε > 0 and where f (a) < 0 , is satisfied. Thus, we allow for the case in which the sequential difference may be negative, and we show that even though the fractional difference can be negative, the convexity of the function f can be implied by the above inequality nonetheless. We consider a nonlinear elliptic problem driven by the p-Laplacian plus and indefinite potential term. The reaction is (p - 1)-linear and resonant and the boundary term is concave. The problem is nonparametric. We consider a nonlinear boundary value problem driven by the (p, 2)- Laplacian, with a (p − 1)-superlinear reaction and a parametric concave boundary term (a "concave-convex" problem). Using variational tools (critical point theory) together with truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter λ > 0 varies. We also show that for every admissible parameter λ > 0, the problem has a minimal positive solution uλ and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map λ 7→ uλ. In this paper, new classes of functions are defined. These spaces generalize Morrey spaces and give a refinement of Lebesgue spaces. Some embeddings between these new classes are also proved. General methods to simulate probability density functions and first passage time densities are provided for time-inhomogeneous stochastic diffusion processes obtained via a composition of two Gauss–Markov processes conditioned on the same initial state. Many diffusion processes with time-dependent infinitesimal drift and infinitesimal variance are included in the considered class. For these processes, the transition probability density function is explicitly determined. Moreover, simulation procedures are applied to the diffusion processes obtained starting from Wiener and Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes. Fractional calculus-based differential equations were found by previous studies to be promising tools in simulating local-scale anomalous diffusion for pollutants transport in natural geological media (geomedia), but efficient models are still needed for simulating anomalous transport over a broad spectrum of scales. This study proposed a hierarchical framework of fractional advection-dispersion equations (FADEs) for modeling pollutants moving in the river corridor at a full spectrum of scales. Applications showed that the fixed-index FADE could model bed sediment and manganese transport in streams at the geomorphologic unit scale, whereas the variable-index FADE well fitted bedload snapshots at the reach scale with spatially varying indices. Further analyses revealed that the selection of the FADEs depended on the scale, type of the geomedium (i.e., riverbed, aquifer, or soil), and the type of available observation dataset (i.e., the tracer snapshot or breakthrough curve (BTC)). When the pollutant BTC was used, a single-index FADE with scale-dependent parameters could fit the data by upscaling anomalous transport without mapping the sub-grid, intermediate multi-index anomalous diffusion. Pollutant transport in geomedia, therefore, may exhibit complex anomalous scaling in space (and/or time), and the identification of the FADE's index for the reach-scale anomalous transport, which links the geomorphologic unit and watershed scales, is the core for reliable applications of fractional calculus in hydrology. We study the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for a system of Riemann–Liouville fractional differential equations with sequential derivatives, positive parameters and sign-changing singular nonlinearities, subject to nonlocal coupled boundary conditions which contain Riemann–Stieltjes integrals and various fractional derivatives. This paper investigates the problem of rapid exponential stabilization for damped wave equations. Based on a new event-triggered impulsive control (ETIC) method, impulsive control was designed to solve the rapid exponential stabilization of a class of damped wave equations derived from brain activity. In many fields of science and engineering, partial differential equation (PDE) constrained optimal control problems are widely used. We mainly solve the optimization problem constrained by the time-periodic eddy current equation in this paper. We propose the three-block splitting (TBS) iterative method and proved that it is unconditionally convergent. At the same time, the corresponding TBS preconditioner is derived from the TBS iteration method, and we studied the spectral properties of the preconditioned matrix. Finally, numerical examples in two-dimensions is applied to demonstrate the advantages of the TBS iterative method and TBS preconditioner with the Krylov subspace method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inner structure appeared in the literature of topological vector spaces as a tool to characterize the extremal structure of convex sets. For instance, in recent years, inner structure has been used to provide a solution to The Faceless Problem and to characterize the finest locally convex vector topology on a real vector space. This manuscript goes one step further by settling the bases for studying the inner structure of non-convex sets. In first place, we observe that the well behaviour of the extremal structure of convex sets with respect to the inner structure does not transport to non-convex sets in the following sense: it has been already proved that if a face of a convex set intersects the inner points, then the face is the whole convex set; however, in the non-convex setting, we find an example of a non-convex set with a proper extremal subset that intersects the inner points. On the opposite, we prove that if a extremal subset of a non-necessarily convex set intersects the affine internal points, then the extremal subset coincides with the whole set. On the other hand, it was proved in the inner structure literature that isomorphisms of vector spaces and translations preserve the sets of inner points and outer points. In this manuscript, we show that in general, affine maps and convex maps do not preserve inner points. Finally, by making use of the inner structure, we find a simple proof of the fact that a convex and absorbing set is a neighborhood of 0 in the finest locally convex vector topology. In fact, we show that in a convex set with internal points, the subset of its inner points coincides with the subset of its internal points, which also coincides with its interior with respect to the finest locally convex vector topology. We discuss the solvability of a fairly general class of systems of perturbed Hammerstein integral equations with functional terms that depend on several parameters. The nonlinearities and the functionals are allowed to depend on the components of the system and their derivatives. The results are applicable to systems of nonlocal second order ordinary differential equations subject to functional boundary conditions, this is illustrated in an example. Intentionally altering natural atmospheric processes using various techniques and technologies for changing weather patterns is one of the appropriate human responses to climate change and can be considered a rather drastic adaptation measure. A fundamental understanding of the human ability to modify weather conditions requires collaborative research in various scientific fields, including, but not limited to, atmospheric sciences and different branches of mathematics. This article being theoretical and methodological in nature, generalizes and, to some extent, summarizes our previous and current research in the field of climate and weather modification and control. By analyzing the deliberate change in weather and climate from an optimal control and dynamical systems perspective, we get the ability to consider the modification of natural atmospheric processes as a dynamic optimization problem with an emphasis on the optimal control problem. Within this conceptual and unified theoretical framework for developing and synthesizing an optimal control for natural weather phenomena, the atmospheric process in question represents a closed-loop dynamical system described by an appropriate mathematical model or, in other words, by a set of differential equations. In this context, the human control actions can be described by variations of the model parameters selected on the basis of sensitivity analysis as control variables. Application of the proposed approach to the problem of weather and climate modification is illustrated using a low-order conceptual model of the Earth's climate system. For the sake of convenient interpretation, we provide some weather and climate basics, as well as we give a brief glance at control theory and sensitivity analysis of dynamical systems. We present the relativistic generalization of the classical harmonic oscillator suspended within a uniform gravitational field measured by an observer in a laboratory in which the suspension point of the spring is fixed. The starting point of this analysis is a variational approach based on the Euler–Lagrange formalism. Due to the conceptual differences of mass in the framework of special relativity compared with the classical model, the correct treatment of the relativistic gravitational potential requires special attention. It is proved that the corresponding relativistic equation of motion has unique periodic solutions. Some approximate analytical results including the next-to-leading-order term in the non-relativistic limit are also examined. The discussion is rounded up with a numerical simulation of the full relativistic results in the case of a strong gravity field. The aim of this paper is to present a new method and the tool to validate the numerical results of the Volterra integral equation with discontinuous kernels in linear and non-linear forms obtained from the Adomian decomposition method. Because of disadvantages of the traditional absolute error to show the accuracy of the mathematical methods which is based on the floating point arithmetic, we apply the stochastic arithmetic and new condition to study the efficiency of the method which is based on two successive approximations. Thus the CESTAC method (Controle et Estimation Stochastique des Arrondis de Calculs) and the CADNA (Control of Accuracy and Debugging for Numerical Applications) library are employed. Finding the optimal iteration of the method, optimal approximation and the optimal error are some of advantages of the stochastic arithmetic, the CESTAC method and the CADNA library in comparison with the floating point arithmetic and usual packages. The theorems are proved to show the convergence analysis of the Adomian decomposition method for solving the mentioned problem. Also, the main theorem of the CESTAC method is presented which shows the equality between the number of common significant digits between exact and approximate solutions and two successive approximations.This makes in possible to apply the new termination criterion instead of absolute error. Several examples in both linear and nonlinear cases are solved and the numerical results for the stochastic arithmetic and the floating-point arithmetic are compared to demonstrate the accuracy of the novel method. This review addresses issues of various drift–diffusion and inhomogeneous advection problems with and without resetting on comblike structures. Both a Brownian diffusion search with drift and an inhomogeneous advection search on the comb structures are analyzed. The analytical results are verified by numerical simulations in terms of coupled Langevin equations for the comb structure. The subordination approach is one of the main technical methods used here, and we demonstrated how it can be effective in the study of various random search problems with and without resetting. In this paper, we study the semilinear Korteweg–de Vries equation with time variable coefficients, subject to boundary conditions in a non-parabolic domain. Some assumptions on the boundary of the domain and on the coefficients of the equation will be imposed. The source term and its derivative with respect to t are taken in L 2 (Ω). The existence and uniqueness of the solution is obtained by using the parabolic regularization method, the Faedo–Galerkin and a method based on the approximation of the non-parabolic domain by a sequence of subdomains which can be transformed into regular domains.
