A total of 896 1-day-old straight-run (Ross-308) broilers were used to investigate the interactive effects of protein source (PS), diet structure (DS) and butyric acid (BA) on live performance and carcass characteristics, gut development and its morphology and apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of protein and amino acids (AA). Eight experimental diets comprising 8 replicates with 14 birds each were tested in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with complete randomized design by two levels of BA (0 and 0.1%), two forms of DS (whole vs. ground wheat) and two PS, i.e., soybean meal and canola meal (SBM vs. CM). Throughout the entire experimental period (0 to 35 d), broilers fed SBM-based diets exhibited better (p < 0.05) growth performance (feed intake (FI), body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR)), carcass parameters (p < 0.05), gut health (p < 0.05), and nutrient digestibility (p < 0.05) than CM-fed broilers. Dietary whole wheat (WW) positively affected FI (p = 0.001), BWG (p = 0.004) and FCR (p = 0.035) during the overall experimental period. Broilers fed WW had 6, 5, 8, 11 and 10% lower empty relative weights of crop, proventriculus, jejunum, ileum and colon and 25 and 15% heavier gizzard and pancreas, respectively, with longer villus height (p < 0.001), reduced crypt depth (p = 0.031) and longer villus height-to-crypt depth ratio (p < 0.001) than those fed ground-wheat-based diets. Broilers fed WW had greater (p < 0.05) AID of CP and most of the AA. Butyric acid supplementation resulted in improved (p < 0.05) growth performance and digestibility of threonine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, serine and aspartate. The broilers consuming SBM had 28% lower abdominal fat than those fed CM-based diets. In conclusion, harmful consequences of a less digestible PS can partially be compensated by the inclusion of WW, and supplementation of BA further reduces these detrimental effects.

In conclusion, MOO and HOO exerted deleterious effects on growth, carcass weight, gut development and nutrients utilization. Low oxidized vegetable oil (20 mEq kg−1), however, with minimum negative effects can be used as a cost effective energy source in poultry diets.

Domestication of the crop plants has narrowed the genetic base of the crops and thereby mounting their exposure towards global climate change, disease and insect epidemics. Genetic variability of modern days crops must be broadened to make crop production more sustainable against various biotic and abiotic stresses which are posturing major threats to the world. It is therefore, crucial to identify novel additional sources of durable resistance. Wheat wild relatives have provided valuable sources of genetic diversity for various biotic, abiotic and quality components. In this respect wide hybridization has become a promising breeding method for introducing new variability in crop plants by using the crop wild relatives. In the present research work wheat-Th. Bessarabicum amphiploid, addition and translocation lines have been screened. These genetic stocks were exposed to 15% polyethylene glycerol (PEG) stress, to find out the drought tolerant addition and translocation lines by studying different physiological parameters. The screening of drought stress revealed that addition lines 2JJ, 4JJ, 5JJ, 7JJ and translocation line Tr-7 exhibited tolerance attitude towards water deficient conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pregnancy can heighten anxiety levels, impacting both maternal and fetal well-being. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 33 randomized controlled trials exploring the effects of music therapy on anxiety in pregnant women. The studies included diverse populations, ranging from women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) to those facing high-risk pregnancies. Music therapy interventions varied widely, including virtual reality experiences, classical music, lullabies, and patient-selected music, administered at different pregnancy stages such as IVF treatments, elective cesarean sections, and high-risk hospitalizations. The findings consistently demonstrated that music therapy significantly reduces anxiety levels in pregnant women. Positive outcomes included reductions in both state and trait anxiety, improved pregnancy rates, and enhanced maternal-fetal parameters. Additionally, music therapy showed promise in reducing anxiety during labor, cesarean deliveries, and high-risk hospital stays. These varied interventions and their positive outcomes highlight the potential of music therapy as an effective, non-pharmacological approach to managing pregnancy-related anxiety. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the existing evidence on music therapy's efficacy in alleviating anxiety during pregnancy. It underscores the need for further research to standardize interventions and incorporate music therapy into routine prenatal care. Objective: To determine the role of dexmedetomidine in potentiating the local anaesthetic efficacy of a low dose of bupivacaine when used as an adjuvant., Study Design: A prospective, double-blind, randomised study. Place and Duration of the Study: Department of Anaesthesia, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, Karachi, Pakistan, from July 2021 to February 2022., Methodology: One hundred and eight patients of ASA physical class I-III undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) under sub-arachnoid block (SAB) were enroled and distributed into two equal groups. Group BUPIPURE (BP) was given 7.5 mg of pure 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacain whereas group BUPIDEX (BD) was given 6 mg of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacain with 3 μg dexmedetomidine intrathecally. The effects in Both groups were compared using chi-square and unpaired t-tests. A significance level of p <0.05 was used to evaluate the statistical significance., Results: Both groups demonstrated a steady decrease in mean heart rate (mean HR 98.9-62.7 per minute as compared to 79.1-59.4 per minute in groups BP and BD, respectively), however, no patient reached to HR <50/min. Group BP had a higher HR variability than group BD. The two groups' median peak sensory levels were similar. However, a statistically significant difference was revealed in the time taken for 2-segment regression (87.5 ± 11.3 min vs. 115.5 ± 6.2 min p <0.001 in BP and BD), as well as the time to reach T10 sensory level (13.56 ± 2.5 min vs. 10.9 ± 3.0 min p <0.001)., Conclusion: In patients having TURP, intrathecal dexmedetomidine combined with low-dose bupivacaine results in a quicker start, extended sensory and motor block, and a decreased need for rescue analgesics., Key Words: Adjuvants, Dexmedetomidine, Spinal anaesthesia, Transurethral Resection of Prostate.

Background: Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain with a permanent predisposition to produce epileptic seizures. There are cognitive, psychological, neurological, and social causes of this condition. It is the second most common problematic neurologic disorder, affecting more than 70 million people throughout the world. More than 65% of the global burden of epilepsy occurs in developing countries., Objective: To assess medication adherence and quality of life among epilepsy patients and to find any correlation between medication adherence and quality of life., Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on epileptic patients who were seeking treatment at AIIMS Bhopal. Two hundred epileptic patients were enrolled in this study via purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through face-to-face interview method. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: In this study, a total of 200 patients with epilepsy were found to be eligible to participate; there were 23 patients (11.5%) with low medication adherence, 95 patients (47.5%) with moderate medication adherence, and 82 patients (41%) with high medication adherence. Patients with epilepsy who follow recommended treatment have a good quality of life, particularly in the spiritual sector (169; 85%). The overall quality of life is moderate for 142 patients (71%) and good for 58 patients (29%). Medication adherence and quality of life were shown to be strongly positively correlated, with a Karl Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.67., Conclusion: The result of this study concluded that improving medication adherence is important to improving the quality of life among epilepsy patients., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2024 Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care.)

Background: Childbirth is a beautiful life event, a unique personal experience for each woman. The study aimed to assess the preferences and factors determining preference for mode of delivery among primigravida mothers., Materials and Methods: A descriptive exploratory design was applied to explore the factors for preferring the mode of delivery among 250 antenatal mothers, selected by convenient sampling technique. A self-structured dichotomous questionnaire on preference and factors influencing preference for mode of delivery was used. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was done using SPSS 20 software., Results: The majority of participants (98.4%) preferred vaginal delivery over elective cesarean section as a mode of delivery. The significant factor influencing preferences was speedy recovery after delivery (89.8%). However, significant factors for preferring the cesarean mode of delivery were the obstetrician's advice and the baby's safety (100%)., Conclusion: The majority of women preferred a vaginal mode of delivery; they still undergo cesarean mode of delivery. Childbirth fear is a prevalent concern among pregnant women, and its measurement is crucial for effective clinical intervention. This article presents a comprehensive review of existing tools for assessing childbirth fear, aiming to assist researchers and health-care professionals in selecting appropriate instruments for their work. A systematic search was conducted across multiple electronic databases, resulting in the identification of twenty tools specifically developed for assessing childbirth fear. The characteristics and psychometric properties of each tool were analyzed. Most tools were Likert scale based, with some employing visual analog tools and dichotomous tools. The identified tools were employed in diverse research designs, including experimental studies and observational studies. Among the tools reviewed, the Wijma Delivery Expectancy Questionnaire emerged as a frequently used and well-validated instrument. It demonstrated good psychometric properties, assessing fear of childbirth through women's expectations and experiences. Other notable tools included the Fear of Birth Scale, Childbirth Experience Questionnaire, and Tokophobia Severity Scale, each addressing specific aspects of childbirth fear. However, some tools lacked thorough testing for validity and reliability, indicating the need for further refinement and evaluation. Researchers can utilize this comprehensive overview to select appropriate tools for their investigations. Clinicians and health-care professionals working with pregnant women can benefit from the identified tools to assess and monitor childbirth fear, aiding in early detection and timely intervention. Objective: Childbirth is a complex process with various dimensions including physical, psychological, emotional, social, and cultural aspects. The study intended to assess the effectiveness of Nurse led FALCI (Fear and Apprehension related to Labour or Childbirth Improving) Intervention in reducing childbirth fear among pregnant women., Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among 115 pregnant women (selected through purposive sampling) at antenatal OPD of tertiary care hospital of Bhopal. Data was collected using Wijma Delivery Expectancy Questionnaire (DEQ) and self-structured questionnaire on socio-demographic and clinical variables. The intervention (FALCI) was carried out in two phases, each lasting for 30 minutes conducted at week 3-4 and week 5-6 and information booklet was provided for reinforcement. The data was analysed using two-way repeated measures mixed ANOVA (within group and between groups)., Results: Findings revealed that most of the pregnant women in both experimental (68.5%) and control (90.2%) group had high level of childbirth fear. Post-intervention data revealed mean of pretest, posttest 1 and posttest 2 were 73.85, 46.94 and 37.90 in experimental group and the mean of pretest, posttest 1 and posttest 2 were 75.49, 72.59 and 72.67 in control group respectively and found that there is significant difference in childbirth fear (within group, F value=114.69, p<0.001 in experimental group and F =0.575, p=0.564 in control group) and between groups (F value= 81.52, p value <0.001). Background: This study aimed to assess the general public's perception of services provided by community pharmacies, their willingness to utilize these services, their satisfaction with and understanding of community pharmacists, and their views on dispensing separation and pharmacy medicines (P medicines)., Methods: An online cross-sectional study was conducted, in which questionnaires were distributed among the general public. A novel questionnaire was designed and validated specifically for this study. It was composed of six sections: demographics, pharmacy usage and service preferences, understanding and satisfaction with pharmacists, views on dispensing separation, private community pharmacies, and knowledge of P medicines. Statistical analyses such as one-way ANOVA, independent t test, and binary logistic regression were employed, with a p value of < 0.05 considered statistically significant., Results: The study received 222 responses. The majority of the respondents were females within the 20-29-year-old age group (62.2%). Most respondents preferred to consult doctors for medical treatment, with their primary reason for visiting community pharmacies being to collect prescribed medicines. About 52.7% of respondents expressed their willingness to avail of screening services and treatment for minor illnesses at community pharmacies. A statistically significant difference was found among different age groups regarding their views on the dispensing separation system, with those aged 41-50 years demonstrating higher scores. However, the binary logistic regression analysis did not reveal any statistical significance when comparing the understanding of P medicines among respondents., Conclusions: In general, the public prefers to consult doctors for medical treatment and visit community pharmacies predominantly to collect prescriptions or purchase over-the-counter medications.
