Abstract

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is a novel transport phenomenon, arising from the interplay between quantum anomalies and strong magnetic fields in chiral systems. In high-energy nuclear collisions, the CME may survive the expansion of the quark-gluon plasma fireball and be detected in experiments. Over the past two decades, experimental searches for the CME have attracted extensive interest at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The main goal of this study is to investigate three pertinent experimental approaches: the correlator, the R correlator, and the signed balance functions. We exploit simple Monte Carlo simulations and a realistic event generator (EBE-AVFD) to verify the equivalence of the core components among these methods and to ascertain their sensitivities to the CME signal and the background contributions for the isobar collisions at the RHIC.

36. Pharmacological inhibition of the ubiquitin-specific protease 8 effectively suppresses glioblastoma cell growth

Abstract

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a malignant brain tumor. The purpose of this study is to estimate the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of a ubiquitin-specific protease 8 (USP8) small-molecule inhibitor on the phenotypic characteristics of GBM cells. The growth, migration, invasion, and stemness of GBM LN229 and T98G cells were evaluated by conducting cell proliferation, colony formation, wound healing, transwell, Ki-67 staining, spheroid formation, and ionizing radiation assays, and the results collectively showed the suppressive effects of USP8 inhibition on GBM cells. Furthermore, transcriptomic profiling of GBM cells treated with the USP8 inhibitor deubiquitinase (DUB)-IN-1 revealed significantly altered mRNA expression induced by pharmacological USP8 inhibition, from which we confirmed downregulated Aurora kinase A (AURKA) protein levels using immunoblotting assays. Our findings indicated that the proliferation, invasion, and stemness of LN229 and T98G cells were markedly suppressed by USP8 inhibition. Pharmacological USP8 suppression elicits multiple tumor-inhibitory effects, likely through dysregulating various mRNA expression events, including that of the key cell cycle regulator and oncogenic protein AURKA. Therefore, our observations corroborate the GBM-supportive roles of USP8 and suggest pharmacological USP8 inhibition is a viable therapeutic approach to target GBM. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect and mechanism of action of the USP8 inhibitor DUB-IN-1 on GBM.

Abstract

To obtain the seismic performance of plate-shell integrated concrete liquid-storage structures (PSICLSS), a scale test model was built for shaking table testing. A combination isolation layer is proposed, and the dynamic responses of non-isolation and combination isolation PSICLSS under unidirectional and bidirectional earthquakes were tested. The results show that the combination isolation layer can change the spectral characteristics of the input acceleration, reducing the acceleration response and displacement of the structure, but it will increase the hydrodynamic pressure and liquid sloshing height. Under earthquake action, the liquid sloshing of combination isolation PSICLSS clearly appears as a nonlinear splash phenomenon. When considering the vertical earthquake, the horizontal acceleration response of PSICLSS and the liquid sloshing height change little, the peak hydrodynamic pressure changes significantly, and the peak position also changes. The maximum displacement of the isolation layer increases, but the residual displacement decreases. Afin d'obtenir les performances sismiques de structures de stockage de liquide en beton a tole de chaudiere integre (<< plate-shell integrated concrete liquid-storage structure, PSICLSS >>), un modele d'essai a l'echelle a ete construit pour l'essai de la table de secousses. Une couche d'isolation combinee est proposee; les reponses dynamiques de PSICLSS nonisolation et d'isolation combinee sous seisme unidirectionnel et bidirectionnel ont ete analysees. Les resultats montrent que la couche d'isolation combinee peut modifier la caracteristique spectrale de l'acceleration d'entree, reduire la reponse d'acceleration et le deplacement de la structure, mais elle augmentera la pression hydrodynamique et la hauteur de ballotement du liquide. Sous l'action du tremblement de terre, le ballotement du liquide de la PSICLSS a combinaison d'isolation apparait comme phenomene d'eclaboussures non lineaires evident. Lorsque l'on considere le tremblement de terre vertical, la reponse d'acceleration horizontale de la PSICLSS et la hauteur d'inclinaison du liquide changent peu, la pression hydrodynamique de pointe change considerablement et la position du pic change egalement. Le deplacement maximal de la couche d'isolation augmente, mais le deplacement residuel diminue. Abstract

This paper proposes a navigation situation assessment method for autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) in a cooperative hunting environment. By virtue of the repulsion function expressed in the artificial potential field, the navigation situation of hunting ASVs and target ASVs is firstly described. And the hunting situation is also constructed to describe the cooperative hunting. Based on the navigation situation and the hunting situation, a navigation situation assessment method for cooperative hunting of multiple ASVs is designed, where the number of hunting vehicles and the hunting radius can be successfully computed. Simulation results show that this proposed situation assessment method can give an optimised formation pattern and provide an effective reference for cooperative hunting of ASVs.
