Neutron beta decay is one of the most fundamental processes in nuclear physics and provides sensitive means to uncover the details of the weak interaction. Neutron beta decay can evaluate the ratio of axial-vector to vector coupling constants in the standard model, λ = gA/gV, through multiple decay correlations. The Nab experiment will carry out measurements of the electron-neutrino correlation parameter a with a precision of δa/a = 10−3 and the Fierz interference term b to δb = 3 × 10−3 in unpolarized free neutron beta decay. These results, along with a more precise measurement of the neutron lifetime, aim to deliver an independent determination of the ratio λ with a precision of δλ/λ = 0.03% that will allow an evaluation of Vud and sensitively test CKM unitarity, independent of nuclear models. Nab utilizes a novel, long asymmetric spectrometer that guides the decay electron and proton to two large area silicon detectors in order to precisely determine the electron energy and an estimation of the proton momentum from the proton time of flight. The Nab spectrometer is being commissioned at the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Lab. We present an overview of the Nab experiment and recent updates on the spectrometer, analysis, and systematic effects.

Introduction: Despite the high prevalence of mental health issues for young people with intellectual disability (ID), young people with ID can struggle to receive the mental health support they need. The aim of this study was to examine a new community-based, clinical mental health service for young people (12-25 years) with co-occurring ID and mental illness, and to explore the outcomes for young people and experiences of families who received service from the new program. Methods: Two studies were conducted using qualitative and quantitative research methods. First, using the Health of the Nations Outcome Scales (HoNOS), a quantitative longitudinal study was conducted to measure any changes in young people's behavioral and social issues, mental health, and levels of impairment, from the being accepted to the service till the completion of care (n = 23). A second study involved qualitative interviews with parents/carers who attended the service (n = 10) that were analyzed to look for emerging themes in parents'/carers' experience of the service. Results: Results of study 1 indicated that young people's behavioral issues and social problems decreased from the time of admission to their completion of carer. Further, results of Study 2 revealed that parents/carers considered the mental health and behavior of their child had improved from being in the program. Parents also valued the person-centered, multidisciplinary, co-ordinated approach of the service, and viewed the new program as an improvement on previous services they had experienced. Conclusions: This study provides preliminary support for the efficacy of the new program and suggests future specialist dual disability services may look to a family-focused, multidisciplinary approach that includes assessment, treatment, and management as an effective treatment model.

Previous research has indicated that nonattachment mediates the relationship between mindfulness and the ability to be adaptable. Additionally, adaptability has been associated with increased academic engagement and subsequently, higher grades. The current study combined these findings into a single model. In an undergraduate sample (N = 725), the results indicated that mindfulness and nonattachment were directly associated with greater adaptability and engagement. Increased adaptability was also directly associated with increased engagement, and engagement was associated with higher grades. Therefore, mindfulness and nonattachment were also found to be indirectly associated, albeit weakly, with higher grades. The current findings, therefore, add to the literature by indicating that mindfulness and nonattachment are both worthy of consideration in future research on student outcomes.

We present an overview of current needs for accurate laboratory atomic transition probabilities (log(g/)) for astrophysical applications, particularly for iron group element spectra in the IR, optical, UV, and VUV spectral regions. Examples are given of our recent measurements, undertaken using the combination of high- resolution Fourier transform spectrometry and time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence. Laboratory measured log(gf) values are particularly important for the determination of elemental abundances in astrophysical objects. Advances in astronomical instrumentation, particularly access to underexplored regions (IR, vacuum UV,VUV), require improved accuracy and completeness of the atomic database for meaningful analyses of astrophysical spectra. Nous donnons des exemples de nos mesures recentes, prises en combinant la spectrometrie a transformee de Fourier de haute resolution et la fluorescence resolue en temps induite par laser. Thirty two Gambian women were studied for postprandial thermogenesis (PT) using indirect calorimetry. Test meals were given to twelve non-pregnant non-lactating women and 10 lactating women in the dry season, and also to ten lactating women in the wet season. Results show that PT of women tested in the dry season was 6 plus or minus 0.4% of the test meal energy content, while PT of lactating women in the wet season was significantly lower. There was no difference in pre- and postprandial respiratory quotients, suggesting that lactation does not change thermogenic response to food and that reduction in PT in the wet season was an adaptive response.
