The pre-oxidation combustion technology and catalytic combustion technology of pulverized coal can not only reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases and NOx, but also can ensure the high combustion efficiency of pulverized coal. Therefore, the effects of O2/Ar pretreatment and K addition on the structural characteristics of pretreated char (SC-Ar and SC-K-O2Ar) were investigated by the employment of ADCH and ESP. And the combustion mechanisms of SC-Ar and SC-K-O2Ar were determined through DFT (density functional theory) method. The study results demonstrated that the O2/Ar pretreatment with K addition altered the ADCH and ESP of SC-Ar and SC-K-O2Ar. Among them, the ADCH charges of atoms C6, C7, C8 and C9 altered from 0.18e, 0.03e, −0.25e. and −0.01e. to −0.41e., 0.01e, 0.11e and −0.16e. In the ADCH diagram, the positive charge characteristics of H in —OH and K were more pronounced. The obvious charge characteristics could be attributed to the stronger electron adsorption of atoms O and K than C. According to the combustion pathway, there were two pathways (path 1 and path 2) for the combustion of SC-K-O2Ar. The rate-determining step of path 1 was \begin{document}$ {\text{IM5}}\xrightarrow{{{\text{TS6}}}}{\text{IM6}} $\end{document}, and the corresponding value was 325.01 kJ/mol. It slightly lowered than that of in path 2 (\begin{document}$ {{{\mathrm{IM}}2'}}\xrightarrow{{{{{\mathrm{TS}}3'}}}}{{{\mathrm{IM}}3'}} $\end{document}, 360.98 kJ/mol). Therefore, the appropriate combustion route of SC-K-O2Ar was path 1. The combustion of SC-Ar also had two reaction pathways, which were called path 3 and path 4. The rate-determining step in path 3 was\begin{document}$ {\text{R}}\xrightarrow{{{\text{TS1}}}}{\text{IM1}} $\end{document}, the energy barrier is 430.34 kJ/mol. The rate-determining step in path 4 is \begin{document}$ {\text{R}}\xrightarrow{{{{{\mathrm{TS}}1'}}}}{{{\mathrm{IM}}1'}} $\end{document}, the energy barrier is 425.09 kJ/mol, slightly lower than that in path 3. Path 4 is the appropriate route for the combustion of SC-Ar. The energy barrier of rate-determining step in path 4 is lower than that in path 1. Therefore, the combustion of SC-K-O2Ar occurs more easier than SC-Ar, illustrating that the O2/Ar pretreatment with K addition could effectively promote the combustion of pretreated char.

The increasing ocean warming due to climate change significantly threatens regional marine ecosystems by raising the frequency and severity of extreme temperature events. This study examines patterns and trends of maximum annual sea surface temperature (Tmax) in the Eastern China Seas from 1985 to 2022. The results show a significant warming trend in Tmax, exceeding the global average, with notable differences between southern and northern regions. The northern Tmax warming rate is faster, with occurrence times significantly advancing, while the southern Tmax warming rate is slower, with occurrence times significantly delayed. The southern Tmax and its timing are closely correlated with the annual maximum air temperature and its timing. In the north, Tmax timing is influenced by latent heat flux (QLH); a significant increase in August QLH inhibits the continued rise of SST, causing Tmax to advance. The study also highlights a significant increase in marine heatwaves at Tmax timing, with higher Tmax indicating a higher occurrence probability. By elucidating these Tmax trends and dynamics, our study enhances understanding of regional climate impacts, supporting targeted conservation efforts and adaptive ecosystem management strategies in the Eastern China Seas.

Abstract Patients with glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD‐Ib) frequently have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). however, the underlying etiology remains unclear. Herein, this study finds that digestive symptoms are commonly observed in patients with GSD‐Ib, presenting as single or multiple scattered deep round ulcers, inflammatory pseudo‐polyps, obstructions, and strictures, which differ substantially from those in typical IBD. Distinct microbiota profiling and single‐cell clustering of colonic mucosae in patients with GSD are conducted. Heterogeneous oral pathogenic enteric outgrowth induced by GSD is a potent inducer of gut microbiota immaturity and colonic macrophage accumulation. Specifically, a unique population of macrophages with high CCL4L2 expression is identified in response to pathogenic bacteria in the intestine. Hyper‐activation of the CCL4L2‐VSIR axis leads to increased expression of AGR2 and ZG16 in epithelial cells, which mediates the unique progression of IBD in GSD‐Ib. Collectively, the microbiota‐driven pathomechanism of IBD is demonstrated in GSD‐Ib and revealed the active role of the CCL4L2‐VSIR axis in the interaction between the microbiota and colonic mucosal immunity. Thus, targeting gut dysbiosis and/or the CCL4L2‐VISR axis may represent a potential therapy for GSD‐associated IBD.

In the modern power system, the uncertainty on the power supply and electrical load will aggravate the volatility in the transmission system. Therefore, the accurate operational reliability evaluation of the transmission system is very important to guarantee the stableness of the power grid. The existing method is to equate the distribution system as a constant load of transmission system according to the rated capacity, which cannot reflect the uncertain factors and power demand changes in the distribution system, which caused the inaccurate of the results in reliability evaluation. To solve the above problems, an accurate equivalence method of distribution system for transmission system operational reliability assessment is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the concepts of load demand classification level and failure load level are proposed to reflect the variation of load level and component reliability changes in the distribution system respectively. Secondly, based on the concept of discrete convolution operation, the load demand classification level and failure load level are combined to construct the model of the accurate load expectation of distribution system. Finally, the distribution system of BUS5 in the RBTS transmission system is used for test, and the effectiveness of the accurate equivalence method of distribution system is verified.

Abstract Background The risk factors for mortality might differ between patients with acute exacerbation of chronic pulmonary heart disease in plains and plateaus, while there is a lack of evidence. Method Patients diagnosed with cor pulmonale at Qinghai Provincial People’s Hospital were retrospectively included between January 2012 and December 2021. The symptoms, physical and laboratory examination findings, and treatments were collected. Based on the survival within 50 days, we divided the patients into survival and death groups. Results After 1:10 matching according to gender, age, and altitude, 673 patients were included in the study, 69 of whom died. The multivariable Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that NYHA class IV (HR = 2.03, 95%CI: 1.21–3.40, P = 0.007), type II respiratory failure (HR = 3.57, 95%CI: 1.60–7.99, P = 0.002), acid-base imbalance (HR = 1.82, 95%CI: 1.06–3.14, P = 0.031), C-reactive protein (HR = 1.04, 95%CI: 1.01–1.08, P = 0.026), and D-dimer (HR = 1.07, 95%CI: 1.01–1.13, P = 0.014) were risk factors for death in patients with cor pulmonale at high altitude. Among patients living below 2500 m, cardiac injury was a risk factor for death (HR = 2.47, 95%CI: 1.28–4.77, P = 0.007), while no significant association was observed at ≥ 2500 m (P = 0.057). On the contrary, the increase of D-dimer was only a risk factor for the death of patients living 2500 m and above (HR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.07–1.40, P = 0.003). Conclusion NYHA class IV, type II respiratory failure, acid-base imbalance, and C- reactive protein may increase the risk of death in patients with cor pulmonale. Altitude modified the association between cardiac injury, D-dimer, and death in patients with cor pulmonale.

Abstract Purpose To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of combination therapy of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) and anti‐programmed cell death protein‐1 (PD‐1) therapy in the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods In this retrospective clinical research, from March 2018 to December 2019, 1158 HCC patients categorized as BCLC stage C were reviewed for eligibility. We utilized propensity score matching (PSM) to mitigate initial disparities between the groups. The evaluation of the best tumor response was conducted in accordance with mRECIST 1.1 criteria. The difference in survival outcomes including overall survival (OS), progression‐free survival (PFS), and objective response rate (ORR) between groups were compared. Results Following the eligibility review, 453 patients underwent a combined treatment of HAIC with PD1 inhibitors (HAIC‐PD1 group), while 221 patients received HAIC monotherapy (HAIC group) met the inclusion criteria and were finally enrolled in this study. Objective: Creatine kinase (CK) and its myocardial band isoenzyme (CK-MB) were considered important diagnostic indicators for identifying suspected acute myocardial infarction. However, the serum level of CK-MB is frequently exaggerated in some pathological states without cardiogenic damage, like cancer. Sometimes, the CK-MB level is even greater than the total CK. This study intended to investigate the association between malignancy and an abnormally high ratio of CK-MB to total CK (CK-MB/CK) and to assess the diagnostic relevance of this ratio as a biomarker for cancer. Methods: Patients hospitalized between September 2019 and September 2022 at Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital (Jinan, Shandong, China) with serum CK-MB activity greater than total CK activity (CK-MB/CK > 1.0) were recruited as research subjects. Then the demographic and clinical characteristics of these patients were systemically analyzed. The correlation between clinical characteristics (such as cancer types, tumor locations, and tumor metastasis) and laboratory test results (such as serum CK-MB activity, total CK activity, and the CK-MB/CK ratio) was also investigated. Results: We found that over 44% of the patients with CK-MB/CK > 1.0 were diagnosed with malignancies, and the CK-MB/CK ratio in malignancies patients was significantly higher than in non-malignancies patients. The increase of CK-MB/CK ratio was most obvious in patients with colorectal carcinoma and prostatic carcinoma. Additionally, extremely elevated CK-MB/CK ratios were observed in individuals with metastatic neoplasms, especially in those who suffered from numerous sites of metastasis. Conclusions: The serum CK-MB/CK ratio can be utilized as a readily accessible supplement diagnostic biomarker in screening for primary and metastatic cancers.

Using salt caverns and caves to build compressed air energy storage power stations is an important development direction in the field of large-scale energy storage. With the continuous maturity of technology, compressed air energy storage generators have gradually developed into large-scale units with a single-unit capacity of 300 MW. Due to the increase of single-unit capacity, the internal short-circuit fault of the stator will cause very serious losses. In addition, the compressed air energy storage generator has complex operating conditions and is more prone to various internal short-circuit faults. In order to effectively ensure its safe and reliable operation, it is particularly necessary to study the effective main protection configuration scheme. The optimal design of the main protection configuration scheme is based on the analysis of the possible internal short-circuit faults of the generator. At present, the stator windings of large-scale compressed air energy storage generators generally adopt double-layer wave winding or double-layer tap winding structures. For these two winding structures, this paper analyzes in detail the characteristics of all fault modalities that may occur inside the large-capacity compressed air energy storage generator and designs a general algorithm that can form their respective fault sets. Finally, the application of the algorithm in the analysis of the stator fault modality in a compressed air energy storage power station is introduced.

With the continuous increase in the proportion, renewable energy sources have brought great challenges to the traditional protection based on fundamental frequency, due to their complex short-circuit current characteristics which are different from synchronous generators. As the main protection of the tie line (outgoing line) of the renewable energy station, the differential protection will also be seriously affected in terms of its operation performance, and even the operation failure or maloperation may occur in some cases. This paper proposes a new principle of pilot protection based on cosine similarity comparison by analyzing the fault characteristics of renewable energy sources. With the full current as the main criterion and the current fault component as the auxiliary criterion, this principle comprehensively utilizes the time domain information of the current on both sides of the line to improve the protection sensitivity. At the same time, a method of capacitive current compensation for the sampling value is proposed according to the algorithm characteristics of similarity comparison, to prevent the protection maloperation in the case of external faults. The simulation results show that, compared with the existing pilot protection based on similarity comparison, the new protection principle proposed in this paper has good engineering application value by identifying internal and external faults in a more reliable and sensitive manner.

Abstract Background Acute glycemic variability (GV) has been correlated with the severity of sepsis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential association between acute GV and mortality risk in patients with sepsis. Methods Cohort studies comparing the risk of death within 3 months between septic patients with higher versus lower acute GV were retrieved by systematic search of Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang and CNKI databases. We used a random-effect model to pool the data by incorporating the between-study heterogeneity. Sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the stability of the findings. Results Ten studies including 4296 patients were available for the meta-analysis. Pooled results showed that septic patients with higher acute GV had significantly increased mortality risk compared to those with lower acute GV, as evidenced by results using different parameters including standard deviation of blood glucose (SDBG, risk ratio [RR]: 1.74, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.36–2.24, p

The lifting operation of offshore pipelines is an important step in ocean pipeline engineering. An effective analytical method is developed for investigating the mechanical properties of the pipeline based on mechanical, physical, and geometric relationships. By using the shooting and the secant methods to transform the boundary value problem into an initial value one and then solving them with the Runge–Kutta method, the deformation and mechanical properties of the pipeline are calculated. Furthermore, based on the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) offshore standard, the mechanical properties of the pipeline are checked. The finite element method (FEM) by Orcaflex is employed to verify the accuracy of the analytical model. The effects of some factors such as the current velocity and lifting point position on the mechanical properties of the pipeline are analyzed based on the analytical model. The results indicate that the change in current velocity during the lifting process has a minimal effect on the pipeline, but the change in lifting point position significantly affects the deformation and mechanical properties of the pipeline.

Aiming at the problem that the current “one key sequence control” system cannot effectively carry out the test work after being deployed in a substation project, a “one key sequential control” test method based on panoramic digital simulation technology is proposed. The actual primary and secondary equipment is replaced by digital analog simulation, the instanced sequential control operation ticket is completed based on professional atlas theory, and the full logic test of the “one key sequence control” equipment status configuration library, operation ticket configuration library, operation process, error prevention logic, dual criteria, etc., is completed so as to realize the visual test of all configurations of the “one key sequence control” system. It provides an efficient and reliable technical method for the testing and acceptance of the “one key sequential control” system.

The highlighted area or object is defined as the salient region or salient object. For salient object detection, the main challenges are still the clarity of the boundary information of the salient object and the positioning accuracy of the salient object in the complex background, such as noise and occlusion. To remedy these issues, it is proposed that the asynchronous cascade saliency detection algorithm based on a deep network, which is embedded in an encoder–decoder architecture. Moreover, the lightweight hybrid attention module is designed to obtain the explicit boundaries of salient regions. In order to effectively improve location information of salient objects, this paper adopts a bi-directional asynchronous cascade fusion strategy, which generates prediction maps with higher accuracy. The experimental results on five benchmark datasets show that the proposed network HACNet is on a par with the state of the art for image saliency datasets.

Abstract The spinal cord is part of the central nervous system (CNS) and serves to connect the brain to the peripheral nervous system and peripheral tissues. The cell types that primarily comprise the spinal cord are neurons and several categories of glia, including astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglia. Ependymal cells and small populations of endogenous stem cells, such as oligodendrocyte progenitor cells, also reside in the spinal cord. Neurons are interconnected in circuits; those that process cutaneous sensory input are mainly located in the dorsal spinal cord, while those involved in proprioception and motor control are predominately located in the ventral spinal cord. Due to the importance of the spinal cord, neurodegenerative disorders and traumatic injuries affecting the spinal cord will lead to motor deficits and loss of sensory inputs. Spinal cord injury (SCI), resulting in paraplegia and tetraplegia as a result of deleterious interconnected mechanisms encompassed by the primary and secondary injury, represents a heterogeneously behavioral and cognitive deficit that remains incurable. Following SCI, various barriers containing the neuroinflammation, neural tissue defect (neurons, microglia, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes), cavity formation, loss of neuronal circuitry, and function must be overcame. Notably, the pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects of cell–cell communication networks play critical roles in homeostatic, driving the pathophysiologic and consequent cognitive outcomes. In the spinal cord, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and microglia are involved in not only development but also pathology. Glial cells play dual roles (negative vs. positive effects) in these processes. After SCI, detrimental effects usually dominate and significantly retard functional recovery, and curbing these effects is critical for promoting neurological improvement. Indeed, residential innate immune cells (microglia and astrocytes) and infiltrating leukocytes (macrophages and neutrophils), activated by SCI, give rise to full-blown inflammatory cascades. These inflammatory cells release neurotoxins (proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, free radicals, excitotoxic amino acids, nitric oxide (NO)), all of which partake in axonal and neuronal deficit. Given the various multifaceted obstacles in SCI treatment, a combinatorial therapy of cell transplantation and biomaterial implantation may be addressed in detail here. For the sake of preserving damaged tissue integrity and providing physical support and trophic supply for axon regeneration, MSC transplantation has come to the front stage in therapy for SCI with the constant progress of stem cell engineering. MSC transplantation promotes scaffold integration and regenerative growth potential. Integrating into the implanted scaffold, MSCs influence implant integration by improving the healing process. Conversely, biomaterial scaffolds offer MSCs with a sheltered microenvironment from the surrounding pathological changes, in addition to bridging connection spinal cord stump and offering physical and directional support for axonal regeneration. Besides, Biomaterial scaffolds mimic the extracellular matrix to suppress immune responses. Here, we review the advances in combinatorial biomaterial scaffolds and MSC transplantation approach that targets certain aspects of various intercellular communications in the pathologic process following SCI. Finally, the challenges of biomaterial-supported MSC transplantation and its future direction for neuronal regeneration will be presented.

Abstract Background Statin may confer anticancer effect. However, the association between statin and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C (HCV) virus infection remains inconsistent according to results of previous studies. A meta-analysis was performed to summarize current evidence. Methods Related follow-up studies were obtained by systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane’s Library, and Embase databases. A random-effect model was used to for the meta-analysis. Stratified analyses were performed to evaluate the influences of study characteristics on the outcome. Results Thirteen studies with 519,707 patients were included. Statin use was associated with reduced risk of HCC in these patients (risk ratio [RR]: 0.54, 95% CI: 0.44 to 0.66, p

In this paper, we focus on the three-block nonconvex optimization problem of background/foreground extraction from a blurred and noisy surveillance video. The coefficient matrices of the equality constraints are nonidentity matrices. Regarding the separable structure of the objective function and linear constraints, a benchmark solver for the problem is the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). The computational challenge is that there is no closed-form solution to the subproblem of ADMM since the objective function is not differentiable and the coefficient matrices of the equality constraints are not identity matrices. In this paper, we propose a linearized ADMM by choosing the proximal terms appropriately and add the dual step size to make the proposed algorithm more flexible. Under proper assumptions and the associated function satisfying the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz property, we show that the proposed algorithm converges to a critical point of the given problem. We apply the proposed algorithm to the background/foreground extraction and the numerical results are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Background. The results of previous clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of recombinant human interleukin-2 (rhuIL-2) for adult patients with pulmonary tuberculosis showed inconsistent results. Accordingly, a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis was performed. Methods. Relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were retrieved by searching the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane’s Library, Web of Science, Wanfang, and CNKI databases. A random-effects model was used to combine the results. Results. 18 RCTs with 2630 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled results showed that adjunctive rhuIL-2 significantly increased the odds of sputum culture conversion to negative (risk ratio [RR]: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.09 to 1.47, p=0.002, I2 = 80%), sputum smear conversion to negative (RR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.17 to 1.57, p0.05). Conclusions. rhuIL-2 is an effective adjunctive immunotherapy for patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

The planter plate is the most important component of the pneumatic hill-drop seed metering system for rapeseed. The structural parameters of the planter plate are the primary determinants of rape planting. The key structural and operational parameters, such as the layout of the suction hole, its diameter, and its shape, were determined through theoretical analysis. Fluent is used to simulate the flow field of various types of suction holes, and the effect of suction hole shape on the change in the flow field of the suction chamber shell is analyzed. Under the same boundary conditions, the results indicate that the maximum velocity of the end face of the horn hole and the average pressure of the section are the highest. Using a high-speed camera, the effects of suction hole diameter and shape on seed filling performance were studied, and the results of Fluent simulation analysis were validated. The optimal seed metering device operating parameters were as follows: planter plate speed of 30–70 r/min and negative pressure of −2.5–−1.5 kPa. The influence of working negative pressure and the rotational speed of the planter plate on seed arrangement performance was studied within the optimal operating parameter range. In order to improve the performance of rational close planting in the seed planter, the multi-objective optimization design of working parameters and the verification test were also conducted. The results showed that with the best combination of working parameters, the empty broadcast rate does not go above 3%, the hole number qualified rate does not go below 96%, and the difference between them and the theoretical optimization result does not go above 5.5%.

Augmented reality (AR) has been developed rapidly and implemented in many fields such as medicine, maintenance, and cultural heritage. Unlike other specialties, ophthalmology connects closely with AR since most AR systems are based on vision systems. Here we summarize the applications and challenges of AR in ophthalmology and provide insights for further research. Firstly, we illustrate the structure of the standard AR system and present essential hardware. Secondly, we systematically introduce applications of AR in ophthalmology, including therapy, education, and clinical assistance. To conclude, there is still a large room for development, which needs researchers to pay more effort. Applications in diagnosis and protection might be worth exploring. Although the obstacles of hardware restrict the development of AR in ophthalmology at present, the AR will realize its potential and play an important role in ophthalmology in the future with the rapidly developing technology and more in-depth research.

On the basis of the discrete element method (DEM), the movement of seed particles during the filling process of a wheat hole-wheel variable seed-metering device was numerically simulated. The impact of various model hole structures, filling postures, and vibration frequencies on the performance of filling was investigated. The results demonstrated that the average speed and filling posture of seeds varied significantly between models. The research demonstrated that the planter’s filling effect was greatly enhanced by raising the average seed population speed in the confined region. Wheat seeds can be filled in the “flat” and “side” postures because the type of hole is conducive to smooth seed filling and the seed in the type of hole is not readily lost owing to vibration. The seed-metering devices adapt well to a vibrational environment, and the vibration factor has no discernible effect on the seed metering rate. The model holes (e.g., inverted fin-shaped holes) with the highest seed filling rate in the simulation test are employed in the bench test to validate the simulation model. The seed rate range was 300–3200 g/min, while the frequency of vibration was 0–10 Hz. Results indicated that the coefficient of variation of the stability of the total seeding rate was less than 1.3%, that the seeding rate of each row was consistent, and that the coefficient of variation was less than 3%, demonstrating that the simulation model was accurate and met the requirements of wheat agronomic seeding.

The seeding performance of a pneumatic seed-metering equipment for rapeseed has a significant bearing on the sowing effect. When the negative pressure falls abruptly, the pneumatic system experiences a significant loss of negative pressure. This will prevent rapeseed from being entirely absorbed by the seed plate, resulting in inconsistent seeding quantities along each row. In this study, CFD simulations were used to analyze the airflow field affecting the airflow transmission of an airflow distribution device. The essential structural characteristics of a conical cylinder conical-arranged kind of airflow distribution device were found, and the causes of negative pressure loss were analyzed from the standpoint of fluid kinematics. The optimal structural type of airflow distribution device was determined using fluid simulation. In addition, an orthogonal examination of the ideal type’s essential structural characteristics was conducted to minimize negative pressure loss during airflow transmission. Then, the influence of the negative pressure loss rate of the airflow distribution device on the variation coefficient of seeding quantity in each row of the seed-metering device was investigated using a bench test involving three factors: seed plate rotational speed, working negative pressure, and structure type. It was discovered that three parameters have highly substantial impacts on the negative pressure loss rate and the variation coefficient of seeding quantity in each row, and that the negative pressure loss rate correlates positively with the variation coefficient of the seeding quantity in each row. When negative pressure fell to 500 Pa, the negative pressure loss rate of the optimal structure type and the variation coefficient of seeding amount in each row of the seed-metering device fell by 6.25% and 3.45%, respectively. Field experiments reveal that the negative pressure loss rate of an airflow distribution device was below 20% and that the variation coefficient of seeding amount in each row of seed-metering devices was below 3.5%. The results can be used to analyze the construction of the pneumatic system and enhance the performance of the seed-metering equipment.

Although there are many studies on the Jurassic source rocks in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin, the characteristics of biomarkers and products with the same source rock in different evolutionary stages are still not well understood. Such an understanding is essential for accurately estimating oil and gas resources. In order to explore the hydrocarbon-generation potential of high-quality source rocks of the Middle Jurassic and the evolution of liquid hydrocarbons and biomarkers, we carried out simulation research (under hydrous conditions) at various temperatures (250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 °C) with the mudstone of the Yu 33 well in the Yuka Sag. The results revealed that the “oil window” of the Middle Jurassic source rocks in the Yuka area was 300 °C (simulation temperature, Ro = 0.84%), but this was not the peak of hydrocarbon expulsion, which was gradually reached and stabilized above 350 °C. Overall, the concentration of alkanes and aromatics increased with temperature; although the concentration of alkanes was complex in the low evolutionary stages, temperature (simulated maturity) was still the main factor controlling the change in alkanes and aromatics. Among the maturity parameters of biomarkers, the ratio of ∑tricyclic terpanes/∑hopanes was the most effective parameter for indicating the maturity evolution of the Yuka area, but others were complicated by the increasing temperature. Therefore, when evaluating maturity, the applicability of other parameters needed to be fully considered. The results obtained offer new insights in the research on liquid-hydrocarbon and biomarker evolution of the Middle Jurassic source rocks in the Yuka Sag of the Qaidam Basin.

Flow past a bluff body in freestream turbulence can substantially change the flow behaviour compared to that in smooth inflow. This paper presents the study of wake flow and aerodynamics of an oscillating square cylinder at the resonant frequency in freestream turbulence, with the integral length not greater than the cylinder side and the turbulence intensity not greater than 10%. Large eddy simulations (LES) in the Cartesian grid using the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) technique embedded in a FVM solver, together with an efficient synthetic turbulent inflow generator implemented in an in-house parallel FORTRAN code are used for the study. The results are compared with those for smooth inflow, and relevant data published in the literature. The key findings are: the freestream turbulence conditions evidently reduces the local turbulent scales and fluctuations in the shear layer compared to in smooth flow, as small scale freestream turbulence breaks down cylinder-generated larger scale eddies and weakens them; but does not evidently affect the vortex shedding frequency, or the length of the recirculation region behind the cylinder. This suggests negligible change of drag coefficient compared to in smooth inflow. Moreover, this is because the vortex shedding is dominated by the forced oscillation at the resonance frequency, and the turbulence intensity is small.

The distribution of glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) in carbonate-type and sulfate-type saline lacustrine sediments from the Ordos Plateau in China is investigated to explore the influence of ionic composition on GDGTs. In general, they are relatively small (1.2–6.0 km2 surface area) and shallow ponds (0.05–0.2 m water depth) and even seasonally dry lakes. The results reveal that the concentration of GDGTs has a good positive correlation with the (nCO32− + nHCO3−)/total ions, and the concentration of GDGTs in carbonate-type lake sediments is significantly higher than that in sulfate-type lake sediments. Most GDGT-based indices show no significant differences, and the distributions of GDGTs are similar in the two types of saline lake sediments. The lack of a positive correlation between the content of clay minerals and the concentration of GDGTs may imply that the ability of clay minerals to carry terrigenous organic matter is very limited in arid climates. The branched GDGTS (brGDGTs) in the two saline lake sediments may mainly come from in situ biological production and have low terrestrial inputs. The different weathering level of feldspar minerals in the two types of saline lakes results in the difference in organic matter content, which ultimately affects the concentration of GDGTs.

Gastrodia elata Bl. has a long edible history and is considered an important functional food raw material. Gastrodin (GAS) is one of the main functional substances in G. elata BI. and can be used as a health care product for the elderly to enhance resistance and delay aging. This study investigated the ameliorative effect and mechanism of GAS on cognitive dysfunction in vascular dementia (VaD) rats, which provides a theoretical basis for development and utilization of functional food. The water maze test shows that GAS improves learning and memory impairment in VaD rats. Meanwhile; GAS significantly decreased the levels of Fe2+ and malondialdehyde (MDA); increased the content of glutathione (GSH); and significantly up-regulated the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4), the key regulatory factors of ferroptosis; while it down-regulated the expression of kelch-like ECH-associated protein (Keap1) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2). However, GAS does not directly regulate GPx4 and COX2 to inhibit ferroptosis. Furthermore, compared with GAS alone, GAS combined with Bardoxolone (an agonist of Nrf2) did not further affect the increase in GPx4 levels and decrease in COX2 levels, nor did it further affect the regulation of GAS on the biochemical parameters of ferroptosis in HT22 hypoxia injury. These findings revealed that GAS inhibited ferroptosis in hippocampal neurons by activating the Nrf2/Keap1-GPx4 signaling pathway, suggesting its possible application as a functional food for improving vascular dementia by inhibiting ferroptosis.

Tor serves better at protecting users’ privacy than other anonymous communication tools. Even though it is resistant to deep packet inspection, Tor can be de-anonymized by the website fingerprinting (WF) attack, which aims to monitor the website users are browsing. WF attacks based on deep learning perform better than those using manually designed features and traditional machine learning. However, a deep learning model is data-hungry when simulating the mapping relations of traffic and the website it belongs to, which may not be practical in reality. In this paper, we focus on investigating the composition mechanism of website fingerprinting and try to solve data shortage with bionic traffic traces. More precisely, we propose a new concept called the send-and-receive pair (SRP) to deconstruct traffic traces and design SRP-based cumulative features. We further reconstruct and generate bionic traces (BionicT) based on the rearranged SRPs. The results show that our bionic traces can improve the performance of the state-of-the-artdeep-learning-based Var-CNN. The increment in accuracy reaches up to 50% in the five-shot setting, much more effective than the data augmentation method HDA. In the 15/20-shot setting, our method even defeated TF with more than 95% accuracy in closed-world scenarios and an F1-score of over 90% in open-world scenarios. Moreover, expensive experiments show that our method can enhance the deep learning model’s ability to combat concept drift. Overall, the SRP can serve as an effective tool for analyzing and describing website traffic traces.

We introduce an optimal mass transport framework on the space of Gaussian mixture models. These models are widely used in statistical inference. Specifically, we treat the Gaussian mixture models as a submanifold of probability densities equipped with the Wasserstein metric. The topology induced by optimal transport is highly desirable and natural because, in contrast to total variation and other metrics, the Wasserstein metric is weakly continuous (i.e., convergence is equivalent to the convergence of moments). Thus, our approach provides natural ways to compare, interpolate, and average Gaussian mixture models. Moreover, the approach has low computational complexity. Different aspects of the framework are discussed, and examples are presented for illustration purposes.

The purpose of this paper is to present the concept of an autonomous Stirling-like engine powered by anisotropy of thermodynamic fluctuations. Specifically, simultaneous contact of a thermodynamic system with two heat baths along coupled degrees of freedom generates torque and circulatory currents—an arrangement referred to as a Brownian gyrator. The embodiment that constitutes the engine includes an inertial wheel to sustain rotary motion and average out the generated fluctuating torque, ultimately delivering power to an external load. We detail an electrical model for such an engine that consists of two resistors in different temperatures and three reactive elements in the form of variable capacitors. The resistors generate Johnson-Nyquist current fluctuations that power the engine, while the capacitors generate driving forces via a coupling of their dielectric material with the inertial wheel. A proof-of-concept is established via stability analysis to ensure the existence of a stable periodic orbit generating sustained power output. We conclude by drawing a connection to the dynamics of a damped pendulum with constant torque and to those of a macroscopic Stirling engine. The sought insights aim at nanoengines and biological processes that are similarly powered by anisotropy in temperature and chemical potentials.

We consider a class of nonlinear control synthesis problems where the underlying mathematical models are not explicitly known. We propose a data-driven approach to stabilize the systems when only sample trajectories of the dynamics are accessible. Our method is built on the density-function-based stability certificate that is the dual to the Lyapunov function for dynamic systems. Unlike Lyapunov-based methods, density functions lead to a convex formulation for a joint search of the control strategy and the stability certificate. This type of convex problem can be solved efficiently using the machinery of the sum of squares (SOS). For the data-driven part, we exploit the fact that the duality results in the stability theory can be understood through the lens of Perron–Frobenius and Koopman operators. This allows us to use data-driven methods to approximate these operators and combine them with the SOS techniques to establish a convex formulation of control synthesis. The efficacy of the proposed approach is demonstrated through several examples.

Abstract In this note, we combined pediatric sarcoma data from Columbia University with adult sarcoma data collected from TCGA, in order to see if one can automatically discern a unique pediatric cluster in the combined data set. Using a novel clustering pipeline based on optimal transport theory, this turned out to be the case. The overall methodology may find uses for the classification of data from other biological networking problems.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate plumbagin (PL) on liver fibrosis in vitro and in vivo and to explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) was used to establish a rat liver fibrosis model, primary hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were isolated from the rat liver, and fibrosis-related indicators were detected. Results: The results revealed that PL significantly prevented CCl4-induced liver fibrosis, as evidenced by the attenuation of histopathological changes, the decrease of MDA and the increase of SOD and GSH-P X . In addition, PL downregulated the mRNA levels of NOX4 and procollagen I; the protein expression levels of NOX4 and p-IκB; and the transcriptional activity of NF-κB in liver fibrosis rats. Moreover, PL significantly decreased ROS expression, protein expression of α-SMA and collagen III, and activation of NF-κB and inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 in IL-1β-stimulated HSCs in vitro. Conclusion: The results of our study indicate that PL can mitigate liver fibrosis in vitro and in vivo, which may be related to the ROS-mediated NF-кB signaling pathway.

In recent years, the zero-mode inrush current of high-impedance transformer with built-in high-voltage winding (T-Hin), which has large amplitude and decays slowly, causes the misoperation of zero-sequence overcurrent protection. Compared with magnetizing inrush current, the waveform of zero-mode inrush current is inconsistent and irregular, and few researches have proposed the mathematical analysis as well as the improved protection using waveform characteristics. In this paper, the mathematical expression of transformer zero-mode inrush current is derived. Further considering the parameter differences, the zero-mode inrush current of T-Hin is larger, which tends to cause the misoperation. The mathematical waveforms fit well with the recorded waveforms. Both recorded waveforms and mathematical waveforms in various conditions prove that the second harmonic ratio (the ratio between the second harmonic and first harmonic) of zero-mode inrush current is significant. Based on the above analysis, a criterion based on the second harmonic ratio restraint of zero-mode inrush current is proposed. If the second harmonic ratio exceeds the setting value, it is considered that the inrush current is generated and sends a signal to restrain the protection. The theoretical setting value of the proposed criterion and the practical engineering method for determining the setting value are obtained.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG), more accurately known as lobular capillary hemangioma, is a benign vascular tumor that usually occurs in the skin or oral mucosa. This lesion is rarely reported in the gastrointestinal tract but is known to bleed if not resected. We herein describe a case series with the clinical, endoscopic, and histologic findings of four cases of gastrointestinal PG at our institution. In addition, we provide a review of the literature and summation of all reported cases of PG specific to the gastrointestinal tract. Based on our experience, we suggest that the actual incidence of gastrointestinal PG may in fact be higher than reported because PG can be unrecognized or improperly diagnosed. It is important for the clinician to properly recognize this lesion as a source of anemia and its propensity to bleed during biopsy or resection.

Three-dimensional modeling of building environments and indoor positioning is essential for emergency response in cities. Traditional ground-based measurement methods, such as geodetic astronomy, total stations, and global positioning system (GPS) receivers, cannot meet the demand for high precision positioning and it is therefore essential to conduct multiple-angle data-acquisition and establish three-dimensional spatial models. In this paper, a rapid modeling technology is introduced, which includes multiple-angle remote sensing image acquisition based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), an algorithm to remove linear and planar foregrounds before reconstructing the backgrounds, and a three-dimensional modeling (3DM) framework. Additionally, an indoor 3DM technology is introduced based on building design drawings, and an indoor positioning technology is developed using iBeacon technology. Finally, a prototype system of the indoor and outdoor positioning-service system in an urban firefighting rescue scenario is introduced to demonstrate the value of the method proposed in this paper.
