Abstract Background Follistatin-like protein 1 (FSTL1) has been identified as a secreted glycoprotein that plays an important role in obesity. However, its role in children with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has not been investigated. This study aimed at characterizing the relationship between serum FSTL1 concentration and MAFLD in children with obesity. Methods A total of 121 subjects were recruited from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, including 45 obese children with MAFLD, 31 obese children without MAFLD, and 45 healthy controls. Anthropometric parameters, biochemical data were measured and circulating FSTL1 levels were detected by ELISA. Results The levels of FSTL1 in obese children with MAFLD were higher than that in obese children without MAFLD: 1.31 (0.35–2.29) ng/mL vs. 0.55 (0.36–1.38) ng/mL. BackgroundDespite emerging evidence linking alterations in gut microbiota to childhood obesity, the metabolic mechanisms linking gut microbiota to the lipid profile during childhood obesity and weight loss remain poorly understood.MethodologyIn this study, children with obesity were treated with lifestyle weight loss therapy. Metagenomics association studies and serum untargeted lipidomics analyses were performed in children with obesity and healthy controls before and after weight loss.Main findingsWe identified alterations in gut microbiota associated with childhood obesity, as well as variations in circulating metabolite concentrations. Children with obesity showed significant decreases in the levels of s-Rothia_kristinae and s-Enterobacter_roggenkampii, alongsige elevated levels of s-Clostridiales_bacterium_Marseille-P5551. Following weight loss, the levels of s-Streptococcus_infantarius and s-Leuconostoc_citreum increased by factors of 3.354 and 1.505, respectively, in comparison to their pre-weight loss levels. Correlation analyses indicated a significant positive relationship between ChE(2:0) levels and both with s-Lachnospiraceae_bacterium_TF09-5 and fasting glucose levels. CoQ8 levels were significantly negatively correlated with s-Rothia_kristinae and HOMA-IR.ConclusionWe linked altered gut microbiota and serum lipid levels in children with obesity to clinical indicators, indicating a potential impact on glucose metabolism via lipids. This study introduced an innovative pathway utilizing an algal anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ALGAMMOX) system to treat ammonium wastewater. Lake bottom sludge and anammox sludge were used to cultivate functional microorganisms and microalgae for nitrogen removal in an upflow reactor made of transparent materials. The results showed that the ALGAMMOX system achieved 87.40 % nitrogen removal when the influent NH4+-N concentration was 100 mg-N/L. Further analysis showed that anammox bacteria Candidatus Brocadia (8.87 %) and nitrosobacteria Nitrosomonas (3.74 %) were crucial contributors, playing essential roles in nitrogen removal. The 16S rRNA gene showed that the anammox bacteria in the sludge transitioned from Candidatus Kuenenia to Candidatus Brocadia. The 18S rRNA gene revealed that Chlamydomonas, Bacillariaceae and Pinnularia were the dominant microalgae in the system at a relative abundance of 7.99 %, 3.64 % and 3.14 %, respectively. This novel approach provides a theoretical foundation for ammonium wastewater treatment.

With the development of fifth-generation (5G) networks, the number of user equipments (UE) increases dramatically. However, the potential health risks from electromagnetic fields (EMF) tend to be a public concern. Generally, EMF exposure-related analysis mainly considers the passive exposure from base stations (BSs) and active exposure that results from the user’s personal devices while communicating. However, the passive radiation that is generated by nearby devices of other users is typically ignored. In fact, with the increase in the density of UE, their passive exposure to human bodies can no longer be ignored. In this work, we propose a stochastic geometry framework to analyze the EMF exposure from active and passive radiation sources. In particular, considering a typical user, we account for their exposure to EMF from BSs, their own UE, and other UE. We derive the distribution of the Exposure index (EI) and the coverage probability for two typical models for spatial distributions of UE, i.e., i) a Poisson point process (PPP); ii) a Matern cluster process. Also, we show the trade-off between the EMF exposure and the coverage probability. Our numerical results suggest that the passive exposure from other users is non-negligible compared to the exposure from BSs when user density is 102 times higher than BS density, and non-negligible compared to active exposure from the user’s own UE when user density is 105 times the BS density.

Recombinant human type II tumour necrosis factor receptor-antibody fusion protein (rh TNFR:Fc) is an immunosuppressant approved for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This case report describes a case of hepatitis B reactivation in a patient with drug-induced acute-on-chronic liver failure. A 58-year-old woman with a history of RA was treated with rh TNFR:Fc; and then subsequently received 25 mg rh TNFR:Fc, twice a week, as maintenance therapy. No anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) preventive treatment was administered. Six months later, she was hospitalized with acute jaundice. HBV reactivation was observed, leading to acute-on-chronic liver failure. After active treatment, the patient’s condition improved and she recovered well. Following careful diagnosis and treatment protocols are essential when treating RA with rh TNFR:Fc, especially in anti-hepatitis B core antigen antibody-positive patients, even when the HBV surface antigen and the HBV DNA are negative. In the case of HBV reactivation, liver function parameters, HBV surface antigen and HBV DNA should be closely monitored during treatment, and antiviral drugs should be used prophylactically when necessary, as fatal hepatitis B reactivation may occur in rare cases. A comprehensive evaluation and medication should be administered in a timely manner after evaluating the patient’s physical condition and closely monitoring the patient.

The safety of battery energy storage systems (BES) is of paramount importance for societal development and the wellbeing of the people. This is particularly true for retired batteries, as their performance degradation increases the likelihood of thermal runaway occurrences. Existing early warning methods for BES thermal runaway face two main challenges: mechanism-based research methods only consider a single operating state, making their application and promotion difficult; while data-driven methods based on supervised learning struggle with limited sample sizes. To address these issues, this paper proposes a data-driven early warning method for BES thermal runaway. The method utilizes unsupervised learning to create a framework that measures BES differences through reconstruction errors, enabling effective handling of limited samples. Additionally, ensemble learning is employed to enhance the method’s stability and quantify the probability of BES experiencing thermal runaway. To accurately capture the time-varying behaviors of BES, such as voltage, temperature, current, and state of charge (SOC), and detect performance differences in BES before and after thermal runaway, a bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) network with an attention mechanism is utilized. This approach effectively extracts features from training data. Subsequently, a Case study was conducted using the actual operation data of retired lithium batteries to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Objective We aimed to retrospectively investigate whether the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR) can predict the prognosis of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) treated with sunitinib or sorafenib. Methods We retrospectively identified 210 patients with mRCC treated with sunitinib or sorafenib from 2007 to 2017 at Fudan University- and Hexi University-affiliated hospitals. In recent years, the large Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations have become a hot topic due to their great potential to improve the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) positioning performance. One of the important focus is how to obtain the accurate and reliable orbits for these constellations with dozens of LEO satellites. The GNSS-based Precise Orbit Determination (POD) will be exclusively performed to achieve this goal, where the Integer Ambiguity Resolution (IAR) plays a key role in acquiring high-quality orbits. In this study, we present a comprehensive analysis of the benefit of the single-receiver IAR in LEO POD and discuss its implication for the future LEO constellations. We perform ambiguity-fixed LEO POD for four typical missions, including Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) Follow-On (GRACE-FO), Swarm, Jason-3 and Sentinel-3, using the Uncalibrated Phase Delay (UPD) products generated by our GREAT (GNSS+ REsearch, Application and Teaching) software. The results show that the ambiguity fixing processing can significantly improve the accuracy of LEO orbits. There are negligible differences between our UPD-based ambiguity-fixed orbits and those based on the Observable Signal Bias (OSB) and Integer Recovery Clock (IRC) products, indicating the good-quality of UPD products we generated. Compared to the float solution, the fixed solution presents a better consistency with the external precise science orbits and the largest accuracy improvement of 5 mm is achieved for GRACE-FO satellites. Meanwhile, the benefit can be observed in laser ranging residuals as well, with a Standard Deviation (STD) reduction of 3–4 mm on average for the fixed solutions. Apart from the absolute orbits, the relative accuracy of the space baseline is also improved by 20–30% in the fixed solutions. The result demonstrates the superior performance of the ambiguity-fixed LEO POD, which appears as a particularly promising technique for POD of future LEO constellations.

Objective This study aimed to evaluate the expression levels of Shh, Gli1, and Cyr61 proteins in gastric cancer tissues and analyze the relationship between these three proteins and the clinicopathological factors and prognosis of patients. Methods This was a retrospective study. Four hundred gastric cancer tissue specimens from patients who underwent radical gastrectomy in Zhangye People’s Hospital affiliated to Hexi University between February 2013 and February 2021 underwent immunohistochemical analysis. Results The positive expression rates of Shh, Gli1, and Cyr61 in gastric cancer tissues were 55.5%, 56.5%, and 64.5%, respectively. The expressions of Shh, Gli1, and Cyr61 in gastric cancer tissues were significantly correlated with tumor size, depth of invasion, and degree of differentiation (P < .05). The expression of Shh protein was positively correlated with the expression of Gli1 protein (P < .01), and the expression of Gli1 protein was positively correlated with the expression of Cyr61 protein (P < .01). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the expression of Shh, Gli1, and Cyr61 could predict the prognosis of patients (P < .05). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis combined with TNM staging could better predict the three-year overall survival of patients (P < .05). Conclusion Shh, Gli1, and Cyr61 proteins are significantly expressed in gastric cancer tissues and are risk factors for the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.

Macroalgae provide food for microbial, meio- and macro-faunal communities in coastal ecosystems, thus mediating nutrient dynamics and functions in these ecosystems. Because of this vital role, it is important to clarify physiological information about macroalgae as it reflects their growth potential in the field. In this study, we examined the biomass, pigment content, and photosynthetic O2 evolution rate versus irradiance curves of 18 macroalgal species from the intertidal zone of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, China, and investigated their photosynthetic patterns in relation to phyla characteristics, morphology, and growth locations. The results showed that green algae had the highest maximum photosynthetic O2 evolution rate (Pmax), light utilization efficiency (α), and dark respiration (Rd) among the three macroalgal phyla; the sheet-like macroalgal species had the highest Pmax, α, and Rd among the four morphological categories. The macroalgal species in the upper intertidal zone showed higher Pmax and α and lower saturation irradiance (EK) and compensation irradiance (EC) than those species in the lower intertidal location. The PCA results showed that the biomass of sheet-like macroalgal species was positively correlated with factor PC1 (50.34%), and that of finely branched species was negatively correlated with factor PC2 (25.17%). In addition, our results indicate that the light absorption and utilization capabilities of macroalgae could determine whether they could dominate the intertidal zone and that their photosynthetic characteristics could be used as a potential indicator of their biomass distribution in the Greater Bay Area.

Fungal diseases are widespread among insects and play a crucial role in naturally regulating insect populations. Mosquitoes, known as vectors for numerous infectious diseases, pose a significant threat to human health. Entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) have emerged as highly promising alternative agents to chemical mosquitocides for controlling mosquitoes at all stages of their life cycle due to their unique infection pathway through direct contact with the insect’s cuticle. In recent years, significant advancements have been made in understanding the infection pathways and pathogenic mechanisms of EPF against mosquitoes. Various strategies involving the use of EPF alone or combinations with other approaches have been employed to target mosquitoes at various developmental stages. Moreover, the application of genetic technologies in fungi has opened up new avenues for enhancing the mosquitocidal efficacy of EPF. This review presents a comprehensive summary of recent advancements in our understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of EPF, their applications in mosquito management, and the combination of EPF with other approaches and employment of transgenic technologies. The biosafety concerns associated with their use and the corresponding approaches are also discussed. The recent progress suggests that EPF have the potential to serve as a future biorational tool for controlling mosquito vectors.

Celiac disease (CeD) is one of the most common intestinal inflammatory diseases, and its incidence and prevalence have increased over time. CeD affects multiple organs and systems in the body, and environmental factors play a key role in its complex pathogenesis. Although gluten exposure is known to be the causative agent, many unknown environmental factors can trigger or exacerbate CeD. In this study, we investigated the influence of genetic and environmental factors on CeD. Data from a CeD genome-wide association study that included 12,041 CeD cases and 12,228 controls were used to conduct a transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) using FUSION software. Gene expression reference data were obtained for the small intestine, whole blood, peripheral blood, and lymphocytes. We performed Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses using the significant genes identified by the TWAS and conducted a protein–protein interaction network analysis based on the STRING database to detect the function of TWAS-identified genes for CeD. We also performed a chemical-related gene set enrichment analysis (CGSEA) using the TWAS-identified genes to test the relationships between chemicals and CeD. The TWAS identified 8,692 genes, including 101 significant genes (padjusted < 0.05). The CGSEA identified 2,559 chemicals, including 178 chemicals that were significantly correlated with CeD. This study performed a TWAS (for genetic factors) and CGSEA (for environmental factors) and identified several CeD-associated genes and chemicals. The findings expand our understanding of the genetic and environmental factors related to immune-mediated diseases.

This study investigated whether using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a carrier for dibutyl phthalate (DBP) could delay the degradation rate of DBP in mice and increase its estrogen-like interference effect. Pregnant Balb/C mice were divided into four groups and exposed to different treatments via tail-vein injection every 3 days until gestational day 20. The female and male mice were then sacrificed for toxicological study. The results showed that the combination of MWCNTs and DBP resulted in a higher fetal mortality rate than if the mice were exposed to MWCNTs or DBP alone. H&E staining showed that the estrous period of the exposed mice was delayed, the development of oocytes was blocked in the combination group, the number of spermatogenic cells decreased, and the quality of sperm decreased. Our experiment showed that the expression levels of the genes involved in sex hormone synthesis in the testis and ovaries were significantly increased after combined treatment compared with the MWCNT group (p < 0.01). The study suggests that DBP degradation is delayed when absorbed on MWCNTs, which increases its estrogen-like interference and interferes with fetal development, ultimately leading to increased fetal mortality.

Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) represent a non-ionic surfactant widely used as adjuvants in pesticide formulation, which is considered to cause an endocrine-disrupting effect. In the current study, we established a detection method for the APEOs residue in tea based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) for the simultaneous analysis of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEOs) and octylphenol ethoxylates (OPEOs) by UPLC–MS/MS. In the spiked concentrations from 0.024 to 125.38 μg/kg for 36 monomers of APEOs (nEO = 3–20), the recoveries of APEOs range from 70.3–110.7% with RSD ≤ 16.9%, except for OPEO20 (61.8%) and NPEO20 (62.9%). The LOQs of OPEOs and NPEOs are 0.024–6.27 and 0.16–5.01 μg/kg, respectively. OPEOs and NPEOs are detected in 50 marketed tea samples with a total concentration of 0.057–12.94 and 0.30–215.89 µg/kg, respectively. The detection rate and the range of the monomers of NPEOs are generally higher than those of OPEOs. The current study provides a theoretical basis for the rational use of APEOs as adjuvants in commercial pesticide production.

Menarche is the first occurrence of menstrual bleeding and one of the most important events of female puberty. Alarmingly, over the last several decades, the mean age at menarche (AAM) has decreased. Environmental endocrine disruptors (EEDs) are chemicals that may interfere with the endocrine system, resulting in adverse developmental, immunological, neurological, and reproductive effects in humans. Thus, the effects of EEDs on fertility and reproduction are growing concerns in modern societies. In this study, we aimed to determine the influence of genetic and environmental factors on AAM. We used data from an AAM genome-wide association study of 329,345 women to conduct a transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) with FUSION software. As references, we determined the gene-expression levels in the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries, uterus, and whole blood. We performed Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses using the significantly dysregulated genes identified by the TWAS. Using the STRING database, we also generated a protein–protein-interaction network to analyze common AAM-specific genes identified by the TWAS with different tissues. We performed chemical-related gene set enrichment analysis (CGSEA) and identified significant TWAS genes to uncover relationships between different chemicals and AAM. The TWAS identified 9,848 genes; among these, 1580 genes were significant (P < 0.05), and 11 genes were significant among the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary, uterus, and whole blood. CGSEA identified 1,634 chemicals, including 120 chemicals significantly correlated with AAM. In summary, we performed a TWAS (for genetic factors) and CGSEA (for environmental factors) focusing on AAM and identified several AAM-associated genes and EEDs. The results of this study expand our understanding of genetic and environmental factors related to the onset of female puberty.

Earth rotation parameters (ERP) are one of the key parameters in realization of the International Terrestrial Reference Frames (ITRF). At present, the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) generates the satellite laser ranging (SLR)-based ERP products only using SLR observations to Laser Geodynamics Satellite (LAGEOS) and Etalon satellites. Apart from these geodetic satellites, many low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites of Earth observation missions are also equipped with laser retroreflector arrays, and produce a large number of SLR observations, which are only used for orbit validation. In this study, we focus on the contribution of multiple LEO satellites to ERP estimation. The SLR and Global Positioning System (GPS) observations of the current seven LEO satellites (Swarm-A/B/C, Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE)-C/D, and Sentinel-3A/B) are used. Several schemes are designed to investigate the impact of LEO orbit improvement, the ERP quality of the single-LEO solutions, and the contribution of multiple LEO combinations. We find that ERP estimation using an ambiguity-fixed orbit can attain a better result than that using ambiguity-float orbit. The introduction of an ambiguity-fixed orbit contributes to an accuracy improvement of 0.5%, 1.1% and 15% for X pole, Y pole and station coordinates, respectively. In the multiple LEO satellite solutions, the quality of ERP and station coordinates can be improved gradually with the increase in the involved LEO satellites. The accuracy of X pole, Y pole and length-of-day (LOD) is improved by 57.5%, 57.6% and 43.8%, respectively, when the LEO number increases from three to seven. Moreover, the combination of multiple LEO satellites is able to weaken the orbit-related signal existing in the single-LEO solution. We also investigate the combination of LEO satellites and LAGEOS satellites in the ERP estimation. Compared to the LAGEOS solution, the combination leads to an accuracy improvement of 0.6445 ms, 0.6288 ms and 0.0276 ms for X pole, Y pole and LOD, respectively. In addition, we explore the feasibility of a one-step method, in which ERP and the orbit parameters are jointly determined, based on SLR and GPS observations, and present a detailed comparison between the one-step solution and two-step solution.

GLP-1 receptor agonists are a class of diabetes medicines offering self-regulating glycemic efficacy and may best be administrated in long-acting forms. Among GLP-1 receptor agonists, exenatide is the one requiring the least dose so that controlled-release poly(d,l-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres may best achieve this purpose. Based on this consideration, the present study extended the injection interval of exenatide microspheres from one week of the current dosage form to four weeks by simply blending Mg(OH)2 powder within the matrix of PLGA microspheres. Mg(OH)2 served as the diffusion channel creator in the earlier stage of the controlled-release period and the decelerator of the self-catalyzed degradation of PLGA (by the formed lactic and glycolic acids) in the later stage due to its pH-responsive solubility. As a result, exenatide gradually diffused from the microspheres through Mg(OH)2-created diffusion channels before degradation of the PLGA matrix, followed by a mild release due to Mg(OH)2-buffered degradation of the polymer skeleton. In addition, an extruding–settling process comprising squeezing the PLGA solution through a porous glass membrane and sedimentation-aided solidification of the PLGA droplets was used to prepare the microspheres to ensure narrow size distribution and 95% encapsulation efficiency in an aqueous continuous phase. A pharmacokinetic study using rhesus monkey model confirmed the above formulation design by showing a steady blood concentration profile of exenatide with reduced CMAX and dosage form index. When monitoring the environment with wireless sensor networks, the data sensed by the nodes within event backbone regions can adequately represent the events. As a result, identifying event backbone regions is a key issue for wireless sensor networks. With this aim, we propose a distributed and morphological operation-based data collection algorithm. Inspired by the use of morphological erosion and dilation on binary images, the proposed distributed and morphological operation-based data collection algorithm calculates the structuring neighbors of each node based on the structuring element, and it produces an event-monitoring map of structuring neighbors with less cost and then determines whether to erode or not. The remaining nodes that are not eroded become the event backbone nodes and send their sensing data. Moreover, according to the event backbone regions, the sink can approximately recover the complete event regions by the dilation operation. The algorithm analysis and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can lead to lower overhead, decrease the amount of transmitted data, prolong the network lifetime, and rapidly recover event regions.

Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) orbits are traditionally determined by observation data of ground stations, which usually need even global distribution to ensure adequate observation geometry strength. However, good tracking geometry cannot be achieved for all GNSS satellites due to many factors, such as limited ground stations and special stationary characteristics for the geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) satellites in the BeiDou constellation. Fortunately, the onboard observations from low earth orbiters (LEO) can be an important supplement to overcome the weakness in tracking geometry. In this contribution, we perform large LEO constellation-augmented multi-GNSS precise orbit determination (POD) based on simulated GNSS observations. Six LEO constellations with different satellites numbers, orbit types, and altitudes, as well as global and regional ground networks, are designed to assess the influence of different tracking configurations on the integrated POD. Then, onboard and ground-based GNSS observations are simulated, without regard to the observations between LEO satellites and ground stations. The results show that compared with ground-based POD, a remarkable accuracy improvement of over 70% can be observed for all GNSS satellites when the entire LEO constellation is introduced. Particularly, BDS GEO satellites can obtain centimeter-level orbits, with the largest accuracy improvement being 98%. Compared with the 60-LEO and 66-LEO schemes, the 96-LEO scheme yields an improvement in orbit accuracy of about 1 cm for GEO satellites and 1 mm for other satellites because of the increase of LEO satellites, but leading to a steep rise in the computational time. In terms of the orbital types, the sun-synchronous-orbiting constellation can yield a better tracking geometry for GNSS satellites and a stronger augmentation than the polar-orbiting constellation. As for the LEO altitude, there are almost no large-orbit accuracy differences among the 600, 1000, and 1400 km schemes except for BDS GEO satellites. Furthermore, the GNSS orbit is found to have less dependence on ground stations when incorporating a large number of LEO. The orbit accuracy of the integrated POD with 8 global stations is almost comparable to the result of integrated POD with a denser global network of 65 stations. In addition, we also present an analysis concerning the integrated POD with a partial LEO constellation. The result demonstrates that introducing part of a LEO constellation can be an effective way to balance the conflict between the orbit accuracy and computational efficiency.

A multi-lidar system, mounted in vehicle to monitor the profiles of temperature, wind and particle optical properties, was utilized to investigate the winter fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution for a vertical perspective, in four cities in China in winter 2018. We observed the enhancement of surface nocturnal PM2.5 in two typical plain cities (Changzhou and Wangdu), which was attributed to the subsidence of PM2.5 transported from upstream polluted areas, with the wind turning north and downdrafts dominating. Combining with the observed surface PM2.5, the reanalysis meteorological data, and the GEOS-Chem model simulation, we revealed the Transport-Nocturnal PM2.5 Enhancement by Subsidence (T-NPES) events occurred frequently in the two cities, with percentages of 12.2 % and 18.0 %, respectively during Dec. 2018–Feb. 2019. Furthermore, the GEOS-Chem model simulation further confirmed that the ubiquity of winter T-NPES events in a large scale including North China Plain and Yangtze River Delta. Process analysis revealed that the subsidence was closely correlated with the southeasterly movement of the high-pressure system and the passage of the cold front, resulting in the increase of temperature aloft, a stronger inversion layer, and further PM2.5 accumulation in the atmospheric boundary layer. Thus, a conceptual model of the T-NPES events was proposed to highlight this surface PM2.5 enhancement mechanism in these plain regions. Fast startup of one-stage partial nitritation (PN)-anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) process for the treatment of nitrogenous wastewater is still a challenge that remains to be solved. In this study, rapid establishment of one-stage PN-ANAMMOX column reactor inoculated with the mixture of dispersed biomass from a partial nitritation (PN) reactor and granular biomass from an ANAMMOX reactor was investigated. Excellent reactor performance was shown during adaptation first to synthetic inorganic wastewater and thereafter to mature landfill leachate. Combining online pH and DO monitoring for ensuring a stable pH level and oxygen limitation was the key to maintaining stable reactor performance. Nitrogen removal up to 1.7 kg N m–3 d–1 from raw mature landfill leachate was eventually obtained, indicating the effectiveness in the operational strategy on high rate and efficient nitrogen removal from landfill leachate via one-stage PN-ANAMMOX process. Nitrogen mass balance analysis indicates that ANAMMOX and heterotrophic denitrification contributed to 78.7% and 20.7% of the nitrogen removal, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new integration of the acquisition and tracking modes is proposed for the integration of a Celestial Navigation System (CNS) and a Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS). After the integration converges in the acquisition mode, it switches to the tracking mode. In the tracking mode, star pattern recognition is unnecessary and the integration is implemented in a cascaded filter scheme. A pre-filter is designed for each identified star and the output of the pre-filter is fused with the attitude of the SINS in the cascaded navigation filter. Both the prefilter and the navigation filter are designed in detail. The measurements of the pre-filter are the positions on the image plane of one identified star. Both the starlight direction and its error are estimated in the pre-filter. The estimated starlight directions of all identified stars are the measurements of the navigation filter. The simulation results show that both the reliability and accuracy of the integration are improved and the integration is effective when only one star is identified in a period. This paper presents a 3D-modeling numerical method to simulate the electromagnetic behavior of high-temperature superconductors (HTSC) while the bulk departs from the center line of the guideway. In this paper, for a typical superconducting levitation style with a bulk superconductor suspended above a permanent magnet guideway (PMG), the guidance characteristics of the system were investigated computationally followed by experimental work. Based on the proposed 3D-modeling numerical solutions of electromagnetic behavior of a HTS bulk sample, we used the grid multiplexing technology in which the meshing nodes inside the HTS bulk represent the centers of pinning to simulate flux pinning of HTS bulk. The resolved code of the 3D-modeling of high-temperature maglev was developed with the FORTRAN language. Anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing bacteria were successfully enriched in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket bioreactor. In this batanceable ecosystem, the proportion between the conversion of ammonium and nitrite and the production of nitrate was found to be 1: 1.30: 0.29, and the removal efficiency of TN reached 90.35%. The microbial community and its diversity in enrichment cultures have been characterized using microscopy and molecular biotechnology. Based on 16S rRNA and phylogenetic analysis, we found four strains in the amplified DNA fragments. Three new species of anammox bacteria were found in this ecosystem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
