Abstract Background Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (S. suis 2) is an important zoonotic pathogen. Orphan response regulator CovR plays crucial regulative functions in the survivability and pathogenicity of S. suis 2. However, research on the CovR in S. suis 2 is limited. Results In this study, the regulative functions of CovR in the survivability and pathogenicity were investigated in S. suis 2 isolated from a diseased pig. The deletion of CovR significantly weakened the survivability and pathogenicity of S. suis 2. Compared with the wild-type strain, ΔcovR showed slower growth rates and thinner capsular polysaccharides. Moreover, ΔcovR showed reduced adhesion and invasion to Hep-2 cells as well as anti-phagocytosis and anti-killing ability to 3D4 cells and anti-serum killing ability. In addition, the deletion of CovR significantly reduced the colonisation ability of S. suis 2 in mice. The survival rate of mice infected with ΔcovR was increased by 16.7% compared with that of mice infected with S. suis 2. Further, the deletion of CovR led to dramatic changes in metabolism-related pathways in S. suis 2, five of those, including fructose and mannose metabolism, glycerolipid metabolism, ABC transporters, amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism and phosphotransferase system, were significantly down-regulated. Conclusions Based on the results, CovR plays positive regulative functions in the survivability and pathogenicity of S. suis 2 SC19 strain isolated from a pig.

The article presents the follow-up to a previous article which expounds the thesis that in all developed legal systems court judgments can be sources of general rules and standards that will constraint the courts, as decisionmakers, and then, consequently, other legal subjects, even if they are not formally recognized as sources of law. In this article, the normative reasons in favor of performing the regulative function of the judiciary are first presented, with the most important ones being predictability and equ ality. It is then shown in which direction the regulative function could be performed by the judicial power of a typical continental system, if the judiciary, as a whole, accepts to perform it.

The paper inquires Husserl’s immanent teleology of conscious life, conceived as a Teleologie der «tiefen» Assoziationen. The associative genesis entails synthetical processes in the primordial-associative field, driven by the general concept of interest. The resulting syntheses ground the various forms of judgments, both judgments on experience and predicative ones in general. Since the theory’s foundation relies on pre-predicative experience, then it must encompass its teleological dimension and, in this sense, the concept of evidence – pivotal in the theory – mirrors the result of the synthesis of fulfilment. This latter, in turn, is driven in an asymptotic path towards a teleological idea of adequacy. This account expresses the complementary mirroring that characterizes the relationship between judging and teleology, without the need to separate teleology from reason. In order to highlight the significance of this framing, the paper is closed by a brief comparison with R. Millikan’s teleosemantic theory, whose concept of teleology is shown as flawed by the general concerns proper to naturalism.

Анализируется регулятивный потенциал прецедентного имени в публицистическом дискурсе. На материале текстов газетного корпуса «Национального корпуса русского языка» рассматриваются способы актуализации регулятивной функции прецедентного имени. Проанализированы мифонимы, являющиеся яркими регулятивными средствами, привлекающими внимание адресата. Определены факторы, влияющие на степень регулятивности прецедентного онима в газетной публицистике, например, использование ситуативно обусловленного иллюстративного контекста, апелляция к первоисточнику, применение образных средств, трансформированных высказываний. Установлено, что регулятивный потенциал прецедентных онимов обусловлен реализацией культурно-просветительской и воздействующей функций газеты.

The article is devoted to the study of axiological possibilities of political epithets. In political discourse, epithets serve not only as a means of assessment, but they also help to manipulate public consciousness. Most political epithets have negative connotation. The list of political epithets is widening because new evaluative word combinations appear in each historical period and are associated with the politics and political leaders of this or that time.

China and India are touted as new entrepreneurship powerhouses. The two countries' different institutional history and characteristics have led to differences in environments related to entrepreneurship. There are some well-founded rationales as well as a number of misinformed and ill-guided viewpoints about the friendliness of the environment to support entrepreneurship in each country as well as the China-India differences concerning entrepreneurial environment. This article contributes to this debate by offering theoretical and empirical evidence regarding the differences in regulative institutions in the two economies. Specifically, we compare the state's regulative, participative, and supportive roles from the standpoint of entrepreneurship in the two countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
