Recycling organic waste and water treatment residues in nanoform is a promising technology in various farming systems, and its effect on aggregate stability, biological activity, and canola production in degraded soils is largely unknown. Hence, we evaluated the effect of nano-biochar (nB) and nano-water treatment residues (nWTR) at levels 50, 100, and 250 mg kg−1 as compared to soil without amendments on the aggregate stability, biological activity, and canola yield in degraded soil. The results showed that the structure coefficient (SC) values are higher when nB and nWTR are added at 100 mg kg−1 soil than at levels 50 and 250 mg kg−1. In our study, the high aggregate stability in the soil treated with nB and nWTR is likely due to their higher content of nutrients, organic carbon, clay, and CEC. The seed weight of the canola plant increased with increasing nB by more than 64%, while it decreased with increasing nWTR. Microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and the activity of dehydrogenase (DHA) and catalase (CLA) increased significantly in the treated pots with the addition of nB and nWTR at various rates. The results of the pot experiment recommended that the applications of nWTR and nB could be used as a promising strategy to improve soil quality and crop yield while also increasing the recycled efficiency of WTR and rice straw. Rice straw is an agricultural by-product that is considered to have the potential to be processed into pulp and various kinds of its derivative products. Pulping condition is an essential prior step to isolate cellulose from fibers. In this study, atmospheric hot soda pulping (AHSP) and soda pulping (SP) methods were successfully used to manufacture pulp and paper from rice straw residues. Pulp modification using water-soluble chitosan was performed aimed at increasing the hydrophobicity of the pulp and paper. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results revealed an increased degree of crystallinity of pulp after both treatments compared to native rice straw. The significant effect of pulping process and chitosan concentration on paper hydrophobicity and its mechanical properties were conducted by performing ANOVA and Duncan tests. According to the statistical results, pulping types, chitosan concentration, and their interaction significantly affected the hydrophobicity but not the mechanical properties of paper (p < 0.05). The best hydrophobicity properties were obtained from AHSP 2% chitosan paper (water absorption of 24.23 ± 1.32% and contact angle (θe) 122.852 ± 0.268) while the best tensile properties of paper were obtained from SP 2% chitosan (tensile strength (S) 1401 N/m). However, the thermal stability was not affected by chitosan concentration. According to the micrographs by Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM–EDS) images, chitosan addition in the paper created changes in surface characteristics compared to the unmodified pulp possibly due to fiber–fiber and fine-fiber flocculation phenomenon Besides, the presence of chitosan can be seen in the N element of the EDS result. In this study, two green extraction methods are explored to valorize rice straw into cellulose fibers (CFs), namely subcritical water extraction (SWE) and combined ultrasound‐heating treatment (USHT). The resultant fibers are, thereafter, successfully pretreated with (3‐glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPS) and incorporated at 3% wt into poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) by melt‐mixing. The green composites are shaped into films by thermo‐compression and characterized in terms of their performance for food packaging applications. The chemical analysis of the fibers reveals that SWE is more effective to selectively remove hemicelluloses than USHT, whereas silanization promotes the removal of lignin in both fiber types. Fiber incorporation, more notably in the case of the silanized fibers, restricts the movement of the PBS chains, indicating good interaction with the biopolyester matrix. In particular, CFs act as antinucleating agents in PBS, delaying both glass transition and crystallization from the melt phenomena and hindering crystal formation. Furthermore, the fibers mechanically reinforce and improve the oxygen barrier of the PBS films. The highest barrier enhancement is obtained for the thermo‐compressed composite film with silanized fibers obtained by SWE, yielding a decrease of nearly 20% in the permeability to oxygen versus the unfilled PBS film. The removal of caesium radionuclides from an aqueous solution by flotation using rice straw (RS) agricultural waste as a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent in the presence of potassium ferrocyanide (KFC) was investigated. The influence of many adsorption parameters and flotation was evaluated on the removal efficiency of 137Cs. The adsorption results demonstrated that the concerned radionuclide was efficiently removed in the presence of 2 × 10−4 mol/L KFC using 10 g/L RS at pH ≥ 7. The double exponential kinetic model and the Freundlich model were the best models for fitting the adsorption kinetic and isotherm data, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of RS, calculated from the Langmuir model, was 280.405 mg/g. after being transferred to the flotation cell, 137Cs loaded onto ferrocyanide-modified rice straw (FMRS) was successfully floated at pH 7 using 3 × 10−4 mol/L cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant in the presence of 4% ethanol. Removal percentages of 56% and > 99.5% were achieved for 137Cs-loaded FMRS within 5 min using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and CTAB, respectively. The results obtained in this investigation indicate the efficiency of the suggested strategy and hence its applicability for the removal of 137Cs+ from radioactive liquid wastes. Objective: This study investigated the impact of Aspergillus niger lysing polysaccharide monooxygenase (AnLPMO) on in vitro rumen microbial fermentation of rice straw. Methods: AnLPMO was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyzed the surface structure of rice straw after AnLPMO treatment. Two in vitro experiments, coupled with 16S highthroughput sequencing and quantitative real–time polymerase chain reaction techniques, assessed the influence of AnLPMO on rumen microbial fermentation of rice straw. Results: AnLPMO exhibited peak activity at 40°C and pH 6.5, with a preference for rice straw xylan hydrolysis, followed by Avicel. AnLPMO application led to the fractional removal of cellulose and hemicelluloses and a notable reduction in the levels of carbon elements and C–C groups present on the surface of rice straw. Compared to the control (no AnLPMO), supplementing AnLPMO at 1.1 to 2.0 U significantly enhanced in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDMD, p<0.01), total gas production (p<0.01), and concentrations of total volatile fatty acids (VFA, p<0.01), acetate (p<0.01), and ammonia-N (p<0.01). Particularly, the 1.4 U AnLPMO group showed a 14.8% increase in IVDMD. In the second experiment, compared to deactivated AnLPMO (1.4 U), supplementing bioactive AnLPMO at 1.4 U increased IVDMD (p = 0.01), total gas production (p = 0.04), and concentrations of total VFA (p<0.01), propionate (p<0.01), and ammonia-N (p<0.01), with a limited 9.6% increase in IVDMD. Supplementing AnLPMO stimulated the growth of ruminal bacterial taxa facilitating fiber degradation, including Proteobacteria, Spirochaetes, Succinivibrio, Rikenellaceae_RC9_ Gut_Group, Prevotelaceae_UCG-003, Desulfovibrio, Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus albus, R. flavefaciens, Prevotella bryantii, P. ruminicola, and Treponema bryantii. Objective: This experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of replacing concentrates with cassava root-top silage (CARTOS) on feed intake, digestibility, rumen fermentation, blood parameters, and growth performance of beef cattle. Methods: Twenty crossbred bulls with a body weight (BW) of 226±56 kg were randomly assigned to one of five treatments for 90 d in a randomized complete block design having four blocks based on BW. The concentrates were replaced by CARTOS at levels of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% dry matter (DM). Animals were fed dietary treatments at 1.8% BW, with rice straw offered ad libitum. Results: The DM and crude protein (CP) intake were decreased (p<0.01, p = 0.04) when the diet’s CARTOS level was increased. The digestibility of DM, OM, and CP were not different among treatments, while fiber digestibility was increased with the inclusion of CARTOS (p = 0.03). The addition of CARTOS to replace concentrates did not change ruminal pH or volatile fatty acid proportions except for acetic acid, which increased with the addition of CARTOS (p = 0.03). The ruminal ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) was decreased (p<0.01) with increasing levels of CARTOS. The blood glucose and blood urea nitrogen decreased (p = 0.01) with the addition of CARTOS at 100%, whereas total protein and hematological parameters did not change with increasing levels of CARTOS. The use of CARTOS to substitute concentrates at 75% and 100% decreased average daily gain (ADG) and gain to feed ratio (G:F) (p<0.01); therefore, the addition of CARTOS up to 50% maintained ADG and G:F in beef cattle. Conclusion: CARTOS can replace concentrates up to 50% in beef cattle diets without adversely affecting feed intake, nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation characteristics, blood parameters, or growth performance of beef cattle. Purpose: Incorporating rice straw into upland has been adopted as a strategy to increase crop productivity and decrease poisoning to rice from reducing substances accumulation as well as mitigate methane emission from paddy fields in South China. However, the mechanism underlying long-term ex situ incorporation of rice straw in upland on soil organic carbon (SOC) and crop yields through microbial metabolism remains unclear. Materials and methods: Hence, a field experiment was established to investigate the response mechanism of SOC and crop yields underlying microbe-mediated carbon dynamics with nutrient stoichiometry by ex situ incorporation of rice straw in upland. Results and discussion: The results showed that the treatment of cropping with chemical fertilizers plus rice straw (SCF) had the highest SOC accumulation rate (0.14 ± 0.03 g C kg−1 yr−1) during the 22-year experimental period. The mean yields of rapeseed and sweet potato were increased by 5.0% and 4.7% in the SCF treatment, correspondingly, compared with the treatment of cropping with chemical fertilizers (CF). Additionally, based on ecoenzymatic stoichiometry, soil microorganisms were found to be co-limited by carbon and phosphorus, which was aggravated by the decrease of soil available nutrients. The SCF treatment exhibited a higher soil microbiomass, resulting in an increased secretion of ecoenzymatic activities to mediate stoichiometric imbalance and mitigate nutrient competition between plant and microbial nutrient limitations. The findings revealed a significant association between stoichiometric imbalance and both SOC and crop yields, respectively. Conclusions: Therefore, our study indicated that long-term ex situ incorporation of rice straw in upland could be adopted as an effective agricultural management strategy to improve SOC and crop yields. Cellulosic fiber from rice straw provides a sustainable alternative to the environmental menace of the field burning problem. Response surface methodology and artificial neural network were applied in the organosolv pulping process to evaluate the responses of total pulp yield (TPY, %), holocellulose content (HC, %), and Klason lignin (KL, %). The optimum input parameters for these reactions were solvent ratio (formic acid: acetone 8:2), chemical doses (68%), time (269 min), and temperature (106 °C) with a response value of TPY (49.8%), HC (80.35%) and KL (3.85%). Artificial neural networks showed better-optimized results as compared to the response surface methodology. An exceptional fiber separation was observed using SEM analysis, while FT-IR analysis confirmed the significant removal of lignin as per drastic reduction in the absorption band at around 1505 cm−1. The cellulose maximization and lignin reduction in the optimized pulp were also confirmed using EDX, XRD, and TGA analysis. Further, the effects of the addition of cationic starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, and xanthan gum were studied for making fiber composite hand sheets. The surface properties were optimum at the bio-additive doses of 3% (oven-dried) in both cases. However, the strength properties reached the maximum with the addition of 2% bio-additives. Nevertheless, cationic starch showed more suitable bio-additive for hand sheet packaging papers with better surface and strength properties. This study determined the optimum organosolv process parameters at the lab scale and further confirmed the suitability of the developed material for packaging applications with improved strength, surface, and optical properties. There have recently been several initiatives to develop eco-sustainable materials because of the growing concern over ecological contamination caused by the overuse of synthetic materials. Previous studies in literature have explored the development of rice straw waste-based epoxy composites. Another waste hazard of concern in the current times is that of waste tire rubber. The present study investigates the physico-mechanical properties of a unique hybrid composite consisting of recycled waste tire rubber and rice straw reinforced composite, which has not been investigated in the literature. Their density, water absorption, hardness, tensile and flexural strengths were examined with variations in the proportion of rubber particles and rice husk. Increase in the rubber content resulted in proportional rise in the water uptake, hardness, tensile strength, and flexural strength. The composite with 25 wt.% of rubber and 5 wt.% of rubber showed the highest tensile strength and strain of 12.5 MPa and 0.015, respectively. The composite with 15% RS and WTR showed a 14.26% increase in flexural strength, with the neat composite exhibiting the highest strength. The composite material can be used as structural panels for instruments or devices in low load bearing applications. The developed sustainable material with waste generated from used tires and rice husk can aid in decreasing the harmful effects caused on the environment and human health during their disposal. The current study pertains performance optimization of multiple responses of a variable compression ratio diesel engine in regard to variation in load, compression ratio, and fuel type. A total of 9 number of experimental runs are performed as per the design of experiment suggested by Taguchi technique for three different load of 4 kg, 8 kg, and 12 kg, compression ratio of 14, 16, and 18, and fuel type of diesel, e-diesel (85% diesel and 15% bioethanol blend), and nano-fuel (85% diesel and 15% bioethanol blend with 25 ppm alumina nanoparticles). The bioethanol used in this study prepared from waste rice straw. The energy efficiency (η), exergy efficiency (ɛE), nitrogen oxide emission, and % relative cost variation are measured as output performances of this study. Fuel type has been identified as the most promising factor to energy efficiency, and exergy efficiency with a contribution of 41.1% and 64.53%, respectively. Load has been identified as the most promising factor to NOx emission, and % relative cost variation with a contribution of 71.69% and 34.92%, respectively. The compression ratio has been identified as the least contributing factor for all output performances. Nano-fuel attains higher sustainability index of 1.923 compared to other fuel due to lower depletion rate. Multiple output performance optimization has been carried out for maximum η, and ɛE, as well as minimum nitrogen oxide emission, and % relative cost using Taguchi–Grey technique. 19.37% enhancement in overall performance of the test engine is observed for determined optimal input parameters of 4 kg load, 18 compression ratio and nano-fuel. To explore the specific effects of pig manure and rice straw on cadmium‐contaminated soils and the effect of different mass fractions of calcium carbonate on cadmium efficacy, a pot experiment was conducted with different rates of pig manure, rice straw, and calcium carbonate. The results showed that pig manure addition increased the soil humic acid/fulvic acid ratio, thereby reducing the available Cd. The addition of calcium carbonate increased the soil pH and reduced the available Cd. The addition of pig manure and calcium carbonate significantly reduced the Cd content of wheat grains by 51.96% and 45.95%, respectively, at 3% and 5% application rates. Rice straw application reduced the soil pH, improved the soil Cd availability, and increased the accumulation of Cd in wheat grains. Compared with that in the control, the grain biomass increased significantly with 3% pig manure and 3% rice straw application, and the grain biomass increased significantly, by 58.86% and 39.11%, and 93.3% and 75.08%, respectively, in 2020 and 2021. With the application of calcium carbonate, the grain biomass of wheat first decreased and then increased. Additionally, the grain biomass significantly increased by 26.36% and 71.22%, respectively, at the 5% calcium carbonate application rate. For agricultural countries in Aisa, rice straw is a waste product, but also a valuable bioresource, with its recycling methods often drawing widespread attention. In this study, a novel multicomponent extraction method was proposed to perform comprehensive extraction of holocellulose and lignin from rice straw powder (RSP), resulting in modified rice straw powder (MRSP) with different micro‐morphologyies. The results indicate that the cosolvent tetraethylammonium chloride (TEAC) is more effective for extracting holocellulose and lignin compared to others, and different surfactants have decisive impacts on the extraction of holocellulose and lignin from RSP. Among them, anionic surfactants aid in the extraction of holocellulose, with sodium allylate sulfonate (SAS) being superior due to its greater changes in allyl polarity. Conversely, cationic surfactants facilitate the extraction of lignin, with octadearyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (OTAC) being superior due to the length of its alkyl‐carbon chain. And the quantized contribution of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups of surfactants to the extraction of holocellulose and lignin, as well as, the different micromorphology of MRSP is obtained. Additionally, compared to the traditional PU (polyurethane) modified by eucalyptus wood powder (EWP/PU), the MRSP was used to prepare a series of biomass composite polyurethane synthetic leather (MRSP/PU), its tensile strength and peel strength of MRSP/PU coatings are greatly enhanced at the feedstock of 18 %. Background: The ability of lignocellulose degradation for filamentous fungi is always attributed to their efficient CAZymes system with broader applications in bioenergy development. ADP-ribosylation factor GTPase-activating proteins (Arf-GAPs), pivotal in fungal morphogenesis, lack comprehensive studies on their regulatory mechanisms in lignocellulose utilization. Results: Here, the orthologs (TgGlo3 and TgGcs1) of Arf-GAPs in S. cerevisiae were characterized in Trichoderma guizhouense NJAU4742. The results indicated that overexpression of Tggcs1 (OE-Tggcs1) enhanced the lignocellulose utilization, whereas increased expression of Tgglo3 (OE-Tgglo3) elicited antithetical responses. On the fourth day of fermentation with rice straw as the sole carbon source, the activities of endoglucanase, cellobiohydrolase, xylanase, and filter paper of the wild-type strain (WT) reached 8.20 U mL−1, 4.42 U mL−1, 14.10 U mL−1, and 3.56 U mL−1, respectively. Compared to WT, the four enzymes activities of OE-Tggcs1 increased by 7.93%, 6.11%, 9.08%, and 12.92%, respectively, while those decreased to varying degrees of OE-Tgglo3. During the nutritional growth, OE-Tgglo3 resulted in the hyphal morphology characterized by sparsity and constriction, while OE-Tggcs1 led to a notable increase in vacuole volume. In addition, OE-Tggcs1 exhibited higher transport efficiencies for glucose and cellobiose thereby sustaining robust cellular metabolic rates. Further investigations revealed that Tgglo3 and Tggcs1 differentially regulated the transcription level of a dynamin-like GTPase gene (Tggtp), eliciting distinct redox states and apoptotic reaction, thus orchestrating the cellular response to lignocellulose utilization. Conclusions: Overall, these findings underscored the significance of TgArf-GAPs as pivotal regulators in lignocellulose utilization and provided initial insights into their differential modulation of downstream targets. Drought poses a significant ecological threat that limits the production of crops worldwide. The objective of this study to examine the impact of soil applied biochar (BC) and peatmoss (PM) on the morpho-biochemical and quality traits of tobacco plants under drought conditions. In the present experiment work, a pot trial was conducted with two levels of drought severity (~ well-watered 75 ± 5% field capacity) and severe drought stress (~ 35 ± 5% field capacity), two levels of peatmoss (PM) @ 5% [PM+ (with peatmoss) and PM- (without peatmoss)] and three levels of rice straw biochar (BC0 = no biochar; BC1 = 150 mg kg− 1; and BC2 = 300 mg kg− 1 of soil) in tobacco plants. The results indicate that drought conditions significantly impacted the performance of tobacco plants. However, the combined approach of BC and PM significantly improved the growth, biomass, and total chlorophyll content (27.94%) and carotenoids (32.00%) of tobacco. This study further revealed that the drought conditions decreased the production of lipid peroxidation and proline accumulation. But the synergistic approach of BC and PM application increased soluble sugars (17.63 and 12.20%), soluble protein (31.16 and 15.88%), decreased the proline accumulation (13.92 and 9.03%), and MDA content (16.40 and 8.62%) under control and drought stressed conditions, respectively. Furthermore, the combined approach of BC and PM also improved the leaf potassium content (19.02%) by limiting the chloride ions (33.33%) under drought stressed conditions. Altogether, the balanced application of PM and BC has significant potential as an effective approach and sustainable method to increase the tolerance of tobacco plants subjected to drought conditions. This work presents a reasonable strategy of optimizing the N : P molar ratio of municipal wastewater to simultaneously restore N‐NH4+ and P‐PO43− via struvite precipitation employing biochar modified with magnesium as the seeding material. The phosphate removal efficiency and ammonium removal efficiency could reach up to 71 % and 100 %, respectively. The remaining phosphate can be restored by other techniques for low phosphate concentration input, such as electrocoagulation. The XRD patterns indicate the appearance of struvite with high nutrient contents including Mg, N and P in the resulting precipitate, suggesting its potential agricultural application. The biochar from rice husk and rice straw modified with MgCl2 solution via a simple procedure could be used as a new seeding material in struvite precipitation to simultaneously restore phosphate and ammonium from wastewater. It has been found that modifying with MgCl2 concentration of 0.5 M and 1 M were enough to improve 14.7 % and 26.5 % of the phosphate removal efficiencies of rice straw‐based and rice husk‐based biochar, respectively. Along with the highly compatible of the post‐precipitated product with soil amendment, the magnesium modified biochars from rice husk and rice straw were highly suitable for enhancing the restoration of phosphate and ammonium via struvite precipitation. This study investigates the potential of renewable energy sources to address the growing energy demands of developing nations while ensuring environmental sustainability. Here, a model-based analysis to assess the feasibility of utilizing rice straw pyrolysis as a renewable energy source is investigated. The thermogravimetric analysis identified the optimal temperature range for pyrolysis (230–400 °C) and the Coats–Redfern model was employed for kinetic analysis. Diffusion models, particularly D3, exhibited the best fit with an activation energy of 16–18 kJ/mol. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed the endothermic nature of the process, with positive enthalpy and negative entropy changes indicating an increase in energy and a more ordered product. These findings suggest that rice straw pyrolysis holds promise as a viable renewable energy option. Biochar application has received much attention because biochar can be used as an organic amendment. The nutrient release patterns and interactions in straw biochar produced at different temperatures are not well understood. In this study, we observed the release patterns of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) and the interaction between released C, N, P, and K from straw biochar prepared from 225 to 600 °C through a 180-day degradation experiment. The results showed that the degradation rate of the two kinds of straw biochar was faster in the first 30 days at different temperatures, and that of the straw biochar prepared before 300 °C was more rapid, indicating that 300 °C is an important turning point. The rule of nutrient release in the straw biochar showed that the K release rate was the highest and most rapid and was more than 60% in the first 30 days. The nutrient release rates for the two kinds of straw biochar were in the order K > N > P > C. The release of nutrients accompanied the decomposition of the straw biochar, and there was an exponential relationship between the amount of nutrients released from straw biochar and its degradation mass. There were collaborative or similar release processes indicated by significant positive correlations between the released C and N (R2 = 0.96) and P and K (R2 = 0.94) in the tobacco straw biochar and an obvious correlation between the released C and N (R2 = 0.76) in the rice straw biochar. These results indicated that the released C and N, P, and K in tobacco straw biochar, as well as C and N in rice straw biochar, have synergistic effects and the same degradation path. The application of straw biochar can provide a source of P and N in the short term and a source of P and C in the long term. Water spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir.) is a short-lived plant that is highly nutritious, containing vitamins A, B, and C, protein, calcium, phosphorus, sitosterol, and minerals, especially iron, which are beneficial for body growth and health. The objectives of this study are to determine the significant interaction between organic (vermicompost) and inorganic (NPK) fertilizers on the growth and yield of water spinach and to identify the optimal dosages of vermi-compost and NPK fertilizers that have the best effect on its growth. The study was conducted in Tegalsari Village, Plered District, Cirebon Regency, West Java Province. The research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with a factorial pattern consisting of two factors: the dose of VermiCompost (K) and the dosage of NPK (N) Mutiara 16:16:16 (N). The results showed that a combination of rice straw compost at 14 tons/ha and 200 kg/ha of the NPK was found to be the best dose for achieving the highest values for plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, and fresh weight of the plants at 24 days after planting (DAP). This article is devoted to the development of methods for obtaining raw materials and coagulants based on Auminzatau kaolin at the Zarkuduk site and the treatment of highly coloured wastewater from the production of paper from rice and wheat straw. The yield of kaolin, treated with a 30 % hydrochloric acid solution at an optimum calcination temperature of 500°C for 90 min, was 97.5 %. Rice straw is an important renewable resource. Under the circumstance of global resource shortage and energy shortage, it is of great significance to vigorously develop comprehensive utilization of straw. It is not only an important way to realize agricultural circular economy and low-carbon economy, but also involves sustainable development issues such as soil fertility, environmental security and efficient utilization of renewable resources in the entire agricultural ecosystem. Straw fiber ecological blanket has a good function of air permeability and water permeability, and has a significant positive effect on the ecological protection of soil surface microenvironment. Mechanical kneading is the key technology for the dismantling and optimization of agricultural waste straw fiber. In this study, the optimal process input is the spindle speed, hammer tooth clearance and material water content, and the output is the straw silk rate and calibrated unit productivity. An intelligent model was developed using Box-Behnken response surface method (RSM) to determine the functional relationship between input and output parameters. The three evaluation index models all have high reliability, and the determination coefficients are R 2 > 0.95 and R 2 > 0.94, respectively. The variance analysis of RSM regression model clarified that the influence of various factors on straw silk ratio was in the order of spindle speed > water content > hammer tooth clearance, and the linear relationship between spindle speed and straw silk ratio was increasing. The significant influence on the calibrated unit power productivity of the kneading machine is in the order of hammer tooth clearance > spindle speed > moisture content. When the hammer tooth clearance is constant, it decreases first and then increases with the spindle speed and straw moisture content. The results of factor interaction analysis showed that when the water content of straw was 40%, the spindle speed was 2 500 r/min, and the hammer tooth clearance was 13 mm, the silk ratio of rice straw was 96.75%. When the straw moisture content is 60%, the spindle speed is 2 300 r/min, and the hammer tooth clearance is 11.08 mm, the maximum calibrated unit power productivity is 29.96 kg/(kW·h). Mathematical model process parameters optimization: straw moisture content is 41.2%, spindle speed is 2 498 r/min, hammer tooth clearance is 12.84 mm. Under the combination of these parameters, the rice straw silk ratio is 96.93%, and the calibrated unit power productivity is 29.33 kg/(kW·h). Under optimized conditions, the proportion of fibers with length of 40～70 mm and > 70 mm showed an increasing trend, especially the fiber with length of > 70 mm increased by 120.55%. The proportion of fiber length-to-width ratio > 50～80 and > 80 increased from 17.39% and 6.52% to 38.64% and 16.01%, respectively. Ultra depth of field microscopy showed that the self-interweaving formability of kneaded straw fiber was significantly improved. The optimized mechanical kneading cost of straw fiber can be reduced by 27.50 yuan/t. The mechanical kneading technology strategy of the RSM model developed in this paper is effective for improving the decomposition rate of biomass straw and reducing the consumption of biomass straw, and can be widely used in the production of high-value agricultural products based on large fiber bundles of straw. Context: The planting and use of leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala) to fatten cattle is both practical and profitable for smallholder farmers in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Currently smallholder farmers feed leucaena as the primary component of a cattle fattening diet. However, the high protein content in leucaena could be more effectively used if combined with a fermentable energy source, such as cassava (Manihot utilissima). Aim: An experiment was conducted to determine the ratio of leucaena to cassava corresponding to largest average daily gain and most efficient feed conversion for gain. Methods: Thirty growing male Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) ~18 months of age with an initial live weight of 164 ± 1.8 kg (mean ± s.e.) were allocated to one of six experimental treatments in a randomised block design. Bulls were held in individual stalls and had access to experimental diets and water ad libitum. The diets were 20% rice straw + 80% leucaena hay (A), 20% rice straw + 65% leucaena hay + 15% cassava meal (B), 20% rice straw + 50% leucaena hay + 30% cassava meal (C), 20% rice straw + 35% leucaena hay + 45% cassava meal (D), 20% rice straw + 20% leucaena hay + 60% cassava meal (E) and 20% rice straw + 5% leucaena hay + 75% cassava meal (F). A mineral mix was provided at 1% DM of total diet and urea was added to the cassava meal at 2% DM. In consideration of animal welfare concerns, the trial was concluded on Day 77 due to observations indicating that bulls receiving the highest level of cassava (F) were experiencing significant weight loss. Key results: The optimum level of inclusion of cassava was 29.5% (based on the quadratic response curve) but there was little difference in average daily gain up to 45% inclusion. Feeding a high level of cassava meal (more than 45% of diet) reduced feed intake, average daily gain and income over feed cost. Conclusion: Cassava meal can be successfully and profitably incorporated into leucaena-based rations of Bali bulls for fattening. Implications: Formulating rations with cassava meal and leucaena can be economically beneficial in cattle fattening systems. Supplementing Bali cattle rations in leucaena-based smallholdings with locally available cassava as an energy source, provides an opportunity to increase cattle live weight gain, extend the utilisation of leucaena and increase farmer profitability. Weight gain and profitability were maximised up to 45% cassava, but higher levels reduced feed intake, average daily gain and income over feed costs. This study explored the efficacy of activated carbon derived from rice straw and treated with ZnCl2 (ZnCl2-RS) for the removal of diclofenac sodium (DCF) and paracetamol (PCM) through an adsorption process. The investigation included examining the variations in removal efficiency at different pH levels and ZnCl2-RS doses. The characteristics of the ZnCl2-RS, prepared for the study, were determined through SEM and FTIR analyses, revealing a composition of 49.4% carbon and 8.3% zinc. At pH 5, the adsorption efficiency for DCF and PCM was enhanced, achieving removal rates of 92.2% for DCF and 89.1% for PCM with 0.2 g of ZnCl2-RS. The adsorption of DCF and PCM by ZnCl2-RS followed pseudo-second-order kinetic and adhered to the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacities were calculated as 26.04 mg/g for DCF and 19.05 mg/g for PCM. In conclusion, the cost-effective production of activated carbon from agricultural waste like rice straw yielded a promising adsorbent material for efficiently removing pharmaceuticals such as diclofenac sodium and paracetamol. This approach not only contributes to waste reduction but also promotes the repurposing of agricultural waste materials. Phosphorus, often found in the form of phosphate in the environment, especially aquatic environments, has been identified as the primary contaminant that causes algae blooms and eutrophication. Phosphate adsorption in the aquatic environment was carried out by comparing the adsorption capabilities of eggshell (CaO), rice straw (BC) and CaO/biochar materials at mass variations of 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1 from the use of eggshell and rice straw waste. Each material was synthesized using ball milling and pyrolysis methods. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics of the material are by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and are pseudo-secondorder (PSO) adsorption kinetics. The CaO/biochar 1:2 material shows the highest phosphate adsorption capacity at pH 12 with a contact time of 24 hours. CaO/biochar 1:2 was applied in the phosphate adsorption process using the Diffusive Gradient in Thin Film method as a binding agent, which acts as an adsorbent. The DGT technique is an in situ sample preparation technique for identifying the presence of phosphate, a labile species. The binding agent material was characterized using FTIR, XRD, and BJH-BET instruments. The success of synthesizing CaO/biochar 1:2 binding gel and ferrihydrite was demonstrated by the appearance of the same adsorption as the diffusive gel using FTIR. The CaO/biochar binding gel demonstrated that it is a better material compared to the ferrihydrite binding gel for phosphate adsorption, achieving CDGT values of 10.1727 mg/L and 2.5959 mg/L at pH 5 and 3, respectively, with a phosphate concentration of 10 mg/L. Determining nutrient-release patterns of organic manures can give an estimate of the potential amount of nutrients that a given material can contribute to crops along with chemical fertiliser. Nutrients released from organic manure depend on several factors, and temperature is one of them. To evaluate how different types of conventional organic manures release nitrogen (N) under varying temperature conditions, an incubation study was conducted at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. Six organic manures—poultry manure (PM), vermicompost (VC), bio-slurry (BS), cowdung (CD), water-hyacinth compost (WHC), and rice straw compost (RSC)—were evaluated at three temperature regimes (15, 25, and 35 °C) to study the dynamics of N incubated for 330 days. The N release was significantly influenced by the interaction of organic manures and temperature regimes. Poultry manure-treated soil incubated at 35 °C had the highest mineralisation of all parameters than other manures. The mineralisation of N followed the order: PM > VC > BS > CD > WHC > RSC > control and 35 °C > 25 °C > 15 °C. Across different temperatures, the mineralisation rate of PM was 15–55% higher than that of other manures. At 35 °C, the mineralisation rate was 10% and 20% higher compared to 25 °C and 15 °C, respectively. The first-order kinetic models predicted the organic N release from manures satisfactorily. The findings of the present study enrich the understanding of N-release patterns under different temperature regimes that prevail in different crop growing seasons in Indo-Gangetic Plains, providing valuable data for researchers and policymakers interested in sustainable integrated nutrient management practices. The accumulation of arsenic in rice is several fold-higher compared to other cereal crops, posing a serious concern for the millions of people who rely on rice as their staple diet. Arsenic uptake and transportation in rice plants utilizes either silica (Si) or phosphate transporter. Recent studies have shown that the application of Brassinosteroids (BRs) could impede arsenic accumulation in hydrophonically grown rice plants. However, the effect of BRs has not been studied on expression of genes associated with arsenic accumulation and transportation in rice plants grown in naturally arsenic contaminated soil. Considering the growing importance of the role BRs in stress responses and protective role against toxicity of heavy metals in plants, we undertook a study to analyse genes associated with arsenic accumulation and transportation [OsHACs (OsHAC1;1 and OsHAC1;2), OsPht1, Lsi1, Lsi2, OsGrxs (OsGrx_C7 and OsGrx_C2.1), OsCLT1, OsNRAMP1, and OsABCC1] in 24-epibrassinolide (EBR), a BR, treated rice cv. Rajendra Kasturi grown in naturally arsenic contaminated soil. Interestingly, BRs mediated modulation of genes helps in lower accumulation of arsenic in flag leaves and seeds of rice plants. The higher enrichment of BES1, a major transcription factor (TF) in BR signaling pathway, was also observed in the promoter region of OsHAC1.1, Lsi1, Lsi2, and OsNRAMP1. In present investigation, we have clearly established that BRs treatment reduced (up to 50%) the uptake of arsenic, grown under naturally arsenic contaminated soil. Overall, a net positive impact on arsenic absorption in rice plant was achieved by BR treatment, emphasizing modulation of this trait by BR at a higher level in the hierarchical response system in plants. Gene expression analysis and reduced absorption of arsenic in rice seeds and straw in EBR-treated rice plants compared to mock treated provides a strong base for developing BR-based arsenic mitigation strategies in rice. Straw return has important impacts on black soil protection, food security, and environmental protection. One year of straw return (S1) reduces rice yield and increases greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, the effects of successive years of straw return on rice yield, soil nutrients, and GHG emissions in the northeast rice region are still unclear. Therefore, we conducted four successive years of straw return (S4) in a positional experiment to investigate the effects of different years of straw return on rice yield, soil nutrients, and GHG emissions in the northeast rice region. The experimental treatments included the following: no straw return (S0), a year of straw return (S1), two successive years of straw return (S2), three successive years of straw return (S3), and four successive years of straw return (S4). Compared with S1, the rice yields of S2, S3, and S4 increased by 10.89%, 15.46%, and 16.98%, respectively. But only S4 increased by 4.64% compared to S0, while other treatments were lower than S0. S4 increased panicles per m2 and spikelets per panicle by 9.34% and 8.93%, respectively, compared to S1. Panicles per m2 decreased by 8.06% at S4 compared to S0, while spikelets per panicle increased by 13.23%. Compared with S0, the soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, NH4+-N, NO3−-N, available phosphorus, and available potassium of S4 increased by 11.68%, 10.15%, 24.62%, 21.38%, 12.33%, and 13.35%, respectively. Successive years of rice straw return decreased GHG intensity (GHGI). Compared with S1, the GHGI of S4, S3, and S2 decreased by 16.2%, 11.84%, and 9.36%, respectively. A self‐healable hydrogel for advanced authentication applications was successfully developed. In the presence of an aqueous solution of ammonium hydroxide as a cheap passivating agent, the hydrothermal carbonization of cellulose diacetate extracted from rice straw yielded nitrogen‐doped carbon dots (NdCD) in a straightforward and ecologically beneficial manner. NdCD achieved a maximum quantum yield of 25.11%. Self‐healing biocomposite inks with different emission properties were created by using different concentrations of NdCD nanoparticles (NPs). In order to create a transparent layer of NdCD@PLA hydrogel, stamps were used to press homogenous films onto paper surfaces. Polylactic acid (PLA) hydrogel was embedded with NPs of NdCD. Self‐healing security hydrogel inks are highly durable. The NdCD@PLA hydrogel is efficiently self‐healable at room temperature. The current NdCD@PLA hydrogel can attach to different surfaces, such as glasses, plastics, and papers. The self‐healable nanobiocomposite was photostable when exposed to UV light. Under UV light, NdCD‐containing nanobiocomposite inks have a bluish color, as proved by both colorimetric parameters and fluorescence spectra. The morphological properties of NdCD were studied by transmission electron microscopy to suggest a particle diameter of 10–15 nm. The morphology of the fluorescent prints was analyzed using a number of different analytical methods. The hydrogel rheology and the mechanical performance of printed papers were tested. The printed films showed excitation and fluorescence bands at 401 and 488 nm, respectively. The present smart ink shows significant promise as a potential industrial production technique to simply produce anti‐counterfeiting prints. The increase in rice straw production and their non-utilization is a major global challenge. Even though it is an eco-friendly feedstock for the bioconversion of energy production separation of cellulose from the rice straw fiber is one of the main limitations that obstruct the application of such lignocellulosic feedstock. In the present research work, acid-alkali pretreatment technologies were applied to the rice straw to increase enzymatic accessibility and improve cellulose digestibility. The rice straw was physically and chemically treated and the chemical pretreatment with 4% sodium hydroxide released a maximum cellulose of 120.33 mg/L. The constituents of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin were estimated while the functional groups were identified by using Infrared spectroscopy. Further, the morphological and structural characterization between the untreated and the treated rice straw were analyzed by Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) analysis which demonstrated a highly distorted structure in the pretreated biomass. Rice straw was used for the production of bioethanol, with simultaneous saccharification fermentation (SSF) yielding higher ethanol (21.77%) than separate hydrolysis fermentation (SHF) (11.65%) by using commercial enzymes and yeast isolates, and optimal production conditions were determined. Pre-treating rice straw with 4% NaOH, optimized enzyme concentration (2:1:1), and SSF with Saccharomyces cerevisiae or 72-hour incubation at pH 4 yielded the highest bioethanol production. mutagenesis using UV rays and chemicals like Ethidium Bromide (EtBr) and Ethyl Methane Sulfonate (EMS) improved bioethanol yield, with EMS treatment exhibiting the most significant increase i.e. with the wild strain (21.77%) and with the mutant strain (24.29%) was achieved. In present work, synthesis of a nanohybrid material using Fe and MoS2 has been performed via a cost‐effective and environmentally friendly route for sustainable manufacturing innovation. Rice straw extract was prepared and used as a reducing and chelating agent to synthesize the nanohybrid material by mixing it with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and ferric nitrate [Fe (NO3)3.9H2O], followed by heating and calcination. The X‐ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirms the formation of a nanohybrid consisting of monoclinic Fe2(MoO4)3, cubic Fe2.957O4, and orthorhombic FeS with 86% consisting of Fe2(MoO4)3. The properties were analyzed through Fourier‐transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results of the dynamic light scattering (DLS) study revealed a heterogeneous size distribution, with an average particle size of 48.42 nm for 18% of particles and 384.54 nm for 82% of particles. Additionally, the zeta potential was measured to be −18.88 mV, suggesting moderate stability. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results confirmed the presence of both Fe2+ and Fe3+ oxidation states along with the presence of Molybdenum (Mo), oxygen (O), and Sulphur (S). The prepared nanohybrid material exhibited a band gap of 2.95 eV, and the photoluminescence intensity increased almost twice that of bare MoS2. The experiment aimed to evaluate the impact of different ratios of fermented rice straw and peanut straw on the in vitro rumen fermentation of Hu sheep by the gas production method. The straw and peanut straw were combined in the following proportions for the fermentation test: 100∶0 (Group T0), 80∶20 (Group T20), 60∶40 (Group T40), 40∶60 (Group T60), 20∶80 (Group T80), and 0∶100 (Group T100). Five Hu sheep in good health with similar body weights were selected as rumen fluid donors. The experiment determined the in vitro fermentation parameters, including the degradation rate of conventional nutrients, gas production parameters, in vitro fermentation parameters, 72-hour degradation rate of conventional nutrients, single combination effect, and multiple combination effect. The results showed that Group T80 had the highest gas production at 72 hours, which was significantly higher than all other groups except for Group T100 (P<0.05). As the proportion of peanut straw increased, the concentration of NH3-N, total volatile fatty acids, propionic acid, valeric acid, isovaleric acid, and isobutyric acid in the culture fluid of all groups showed an increasing and then decreasing trend. The multiple combination effect (MFAEI) of Group T80 was superior to other combinations. The study indicates that different ratios of fermented straw and peanut straw combinations can produce positive synergistic effects. Among them, the combination of fermented straw to peanut straw at a ratio of 20∶80 exhibits a better synergistic effect, which can improve the utilization rate of roughage by the Hu sheep. Simple Summary: Degnala is a neglected disease affecting water buffaloes, characterized by dermatological and systemic symptoms that significantly impact animal health and productivity. Caused primarily by mycotoxins produced by fungi in damp, poorly stored feed, Degnala manifests through symptoms such as skin lesions, lameness, and weight loss, leading to severe economic losses in affected regions. Despite its prevalence in certain areas, Degnala remains underreported and understudied, partly due to inadequate diagnostic facilities and a lack of awareness among veterinarians and farmers. This review aims to shed light on Degnala, its etiology, clinical manifestations, and the challenges faced in its diagnosis and management. Furthermore, this review discusses the current understanding of the disease, highlighting research gaps and the need for improved diagnostic methods. It also emphasizes the importance of proper feed management and storage practices to prevent mycotoxin contamination. By bringing attention to this neglected disease, this review calls for increased research efforts, better diagnostic protocols, and enhanced awareness to mitigate the impact of Degnala on buffalo health and productivity. Addressing these challenges is crucial for improving animal welfare and supporting the livelihoods of farmers who rely on buffaloes for milk, meat, and draught power. Degnala is one of the primary mycotoxicoses affecting buffaloes, with Fusarium spp. as the main causative agent. This disease is strongly associated with the feeding of rice straw to buffaloes and is considered endemic to regions where rice is cultivated. Cases are concentrated in winter when conditions favor fungal growth in inadequately stored straw. Degnala is characterized by necrosis and gangrene of the extremities, including the tail, lower limbs, ears, tongue, muzzle, and teats. The pelvic limbs are more affected than the thoracic limbs. A tortuous appearance of the tail is very common, and cracks or corneal loss of the hooves may occur, exposing the blades and even the bones. There is no diagnostic method for identifying the disease in animals other than clinical and epidemiological criteria, combined with fungal culture samples. There is no treatment that neutralizes the effects of the toxins; the current treatment is palliative and supportive, consisting of pentasulfate solution, anti-Degnala liquid, 2% nitroglycerin ointment, and broad-spectrum antibiotics for secondary infections. Rice straw is considered an agricultural waste harmful to the environment, which is abundant in most parts of the world. From this point, the present study is devoted to preparing new composites of two types of glue based on rice straw as a plentiful, low-cost matrix. Straw glue samples were prepared by mixing 20% wt. of rice straw with 80% wt. of animal glue (RS-An) and polyvinyl acetate (RS-PVAC) at different thicknesses of 1, 2, and 3 cm. The chemical composition of the prepared samples was identified by energy dispersive X-ray analysis and their morphology was examined using a scanning electron microscope. The mechanical test explored that RS-An and RS-PVAC respectively required a stress of 25.2 and 25.5 MPa before reaching the breaking point. γ-ray shielding performance was analyzed and determined at numerous photon energies from 0.059 to 1.408 MeV emitted from five-point γ-rays sources using NaI (Tl). Linear attenuation coefficient was calculated by obtaining the area under the peak of the energy spectrum observed from Genie 2000 software in the presence and absence of the sample. The experimental results of mass attenuation coefficient were compared with theoretical data of XCOM software with relative deviation ranging from 0.10 to 2.99%. Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation code was also employed to validate the experimental results. The relative deviation of XCOM and Geant4 outcomes was 0.09–1.77%, which indicates a good agreement between them. Other radiation shielding parameters such as half value layer (HVL), tenth value layer, and mean free path were calculated in three ways: experimentally, theoretically from the XCOM database, and by simulation using Geant4 code. Additionally, effective atomic number (Zeff), effective atomic number (Neff), equivalent atomic number (Zeq), and buildup factors were evaluated. Introduction: Currently, straw biodegradation and soil improvement in rice)mushroom rotation systems have attracted much attention. However, there is still a lack of studies on the effects of rice-mushroom rotation on yield, soil properties and microbial succession. Methods: In this study, no treatment (CK), green manure return (GM) and rice straw return (RS) were used as controls to fully evaluate the effect of Stropharia rugosoannulata cultivation substrate return (SRS) on soil properties and microorganisms. Results: The results indicated that rice yield, soil nutrient (organic matter, organic carbon, total nitrogen, available nitrogen and available potassium) and soil enzyme (urease, saccharase, lignin peroxidase and laccase) activities had positive responses to the rice-mushroom rotation. At the interannual level, microbial diversity varied significantly among treatments, with the rice-mushroom rotation significantly increasing the relative alpha diversity index of soil bacteria and enriching beneficial microbial communities such as Rhizobium, Bacillus and Trichoderma for rice growth. Soil nutrients and enzymatic activities were significantly correlated with microbial communities during rice-mushroom rotation. The fungal-bacterial co-occurrence networks were modular, and Latescibacterota, Chloroflexi, Gemmatimonadota and Patescibacteria were closely related to the accumulation of nutrients in the soil. The structural equation model (SEM) showed that fungal diversity responded more to changes in soil nutrients than did bacterial diversity. Discussion: Overall, the rice-mushroom rotation model improved soil nutrients and rice yields, enriched beneficial microorganisms and maintained microbial diversity. Trichoderma reesei RUT-C30 was cultivated on differentially pretreated rice straw and pure cellulose as a carbon source/inducer for cellulase production, and the enzymes were evaluated for hydrolysis of sequential acid and alkali pretreated rice straw. Growth on pretreated rice straw enhanced protein secretion and cellulase activities compared to pure cellulose as a carbon source. The yield of cellulolytic enzymes was higher for alkali pretreated rice straw (ALP-RS), while H2O2-treated (HP-RS) could not induce cellulases to a larger level compared to pure cellulose. Protein concentration was 3.5-fold higher on ALP-RS as compared to pure cellulose, with a maximum filter-paper cellulase (FPase) activity of 1.76 IU/ml and carboxy-methyl cellulase (CMCase) activity of 40.16 IU/ml (2.18 fold higher). Beta-glucosidase (BGL) activity was more or less the same with the different substrates and supplementation of heterologous BGL could result in a quantum jump in hydrolytic efficiencies, which in the case of ALP-RS induced enzymes was 34% (increased from 69.26% to 92.51%). The use of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) itself as a substrate for the production of cellulase is advantageous not only in terms of raw material costs but also for obtaining a more suitable enzyme profile for biomass hydrolysis. Crop straw returning to the field is an effective practice for straw utilization to improve soil fertility and sustain crop productivity. However, little information is available about the long-term effects of paddy straw return on soil properties and rice yield under a double-rice system. The objectives of this study were to test the hypothesis of the effects of different amounts of paddy straw returned to the field on soil physicochemical properties and rice yield, and to clarify the correlation between crop yield and soil physicochemical properties as well as quick-acting nutrients under different straw-returning modes. The experiment, initiated in the 2005 rice season, utilized "Xiang 45" and "Xiang 13" long-grained rice cultivars within a double-season rice cropping system. Three straw-returning treatments were implemented: rotary tillage with full rice straw incorporation (RTS), incorporation of one-third of the rice straw (1/3RTS), and incorporation of two-thirds of the rice straw (2/3RTS). This study found that among the three straw return rates, 2/3RTS had the most significant impact on soil physicochemical properties. Soil nitrogen content was identified as a crucial factor influencing soil organic carbon (SOC) accumulation, while pH levels significantly affected rice yield. This work aimed to assess microbial inoculants (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lentilactobacillus buchneri), chemical additives (natamycin and hexanoic acid), and their combination on fermentation characteristics and aerobic stability in total mixed ration (TMR) silage. The TMR consisted of 30% water bamboo shell (WBS), 10% alfalfa, 20% rice straw, and 40% concentrate. There were six treatments as follows: (1) deionized water (control, CON). (2) lactic acid bacteria (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum + Lentilactobacillus buchneri; LPB, 1 × 106 cfu/g FW). (3) natamycin (NT, 0.02 g/kg FW). (4) hexanoic acid (HA, 0.02 g/kg FW). (5) lactic acid bacteria + natamycin (SLNT, 0.02 g/kg FW). (6) lactic acid bacteria + hexanoic acid (SLHA, 0.02 g/kg FW). After fermentation, laboratory silos (10 L) were opened to assess fermentation quality, followed by a 6-day aerobic stability test. The results showed that all silages were well fermented with high lactic acid (LA) content, low ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and negligible butyric acid (BA) levels. Among all silages, SLNT silage exhibited the greatest LA, acetic acid (AA) levels, LAB counts, and the lowest pH and NH3-N. For aerobic stability, all additives significantly (p < 0.05) enhanced aerobic stability, delayed (p < 0.05) the decrease in LA and water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and the increase in pH, and significantly (p < 0.05) minimized yeast proliferation. The SLNT silage showed the best aerobic stability, with SLHA, NT, HA, and LPB following. [Objective] The aims of this study are to investigate the specific improvement effects of different additions of straw and biochar on the sloping arable land of purple soil, so as to provide theoretical references for the reasonable prevention and control of soil erosion in the Three Gorges Reservoir area. [Methods] The effects of rice straw (4, 7, 10 t/hm²) and biochar (13,39,65 t/hm²) on sediment yield and nitrogen loss in purple soil slope were studied by artificial rainfall simulation method, with bare slope as the control. [Results] (1) Under the condition of high intensity rainfall, the mixture of biochar with purple soil accelerated the process of runoff production on slope, and the application of mixed straw could prolong the initial time of runoff production and reduce the rate of runoff production. (2) The cumulative sediment yield of purple soil increased by 0.64%~66.29% compared with the control group after adding biochar, but decreased by 42.58%~70.27% after adding mixed straw. The inhibitory effect of mixed straw on sediment yield on slope was much stronger than that on runoff yield on slope. (3) The nitrogen loss process in surface runoff was dominated by NO-3-N, and the overall loss moduli of TN, NO3-N and NH+4-N were the largest under biochar treatment, and the smallest under mixed straw treatment. [Conclusion] The application of crushed straw can promote seepage and inhibit flow, effectively control soil, water and nutrient loss in purple slope farmland, while the short-term application of biochar may have negative effects. Simple Summary: Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) have a great ability to bioconvert vegetable by-products used as feed into body mass. Rice straw is a vegetable by-product that is difficult to dispose of and causes environmental problems. The use of physicochemical or enzymatic treatments to improve the digestibility of these by-products can increase the performance of mealworms in terms of yield. In this study, mealworm larvae were reared on diets formulated with rice straw and rice straw subjected to a combined treatment of laccase enzyme, ultrasound, and ascorbic acid to evaluate the impact on the growth performance and digestibility of T. molitor. The combined sonication, laccase enzyme, and ascorbic acid treatment of rice by-products facilitated their use by T. molitor larvae, increasing the weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and conversion efficiency of ingested feed. The use of treatments capable of improving the usefulness of vegetable by-products opens the possibility of developing new methodologies for their use for insect feed. The development of reuse processes for plant by-products for both animal and human food offers numerous possibilities for quality-of-life improvements that align with a circular economy model. For this reason, we divided this study into two experiments. First, we designed a combined treatment consisting of laccase, ultrasound, and ascorbic acid to hydrolyze rice straw plant fibers and used the resulting feed as the basis for T. molitor diets. Second, we formulated diets with different inclusion levels (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) of rice straw and treated rice straw to assess their impact on larvae growth and diet digestibility. For each treatment, six replicates were employed: four for the growth–performance–digestibility trial and two for complementary uric acid determination tests. The combined laccase enzyme, ultrasound, and ascorbic acid treatment hydrolyzed 13.2% of the vegetable fibers. The diets containing treated rice straw resulted in higher larvae weight and a better feed conversion ratio; however, reaching 100% by-product inclusion values led to similar results between both diets. In conclusion, these treatments improve the potential of low-nutritional-value vegetable by-products as part of a T. molitor diet, opening the possibility of new methodologies for the use of recalcitrant vegetable by-products for insect rearing. Simple Summary: Using homegrown forage instead of imported alfalfa hay (AH) improves animal productivity and reduces feed costs, but the benefits of feeding high-quality common vetch hay (CVH) to lambs are not clear. This study aimed to determine the effect of replacing alfalfa hay with common vetch hay on growth performance, rumen fermentation, and rumen microbiota of fattening lambs. The results showed that substitution of AH by CVH in ruminant diets result in improvements in fattening performance and economic efficiency and a reduction in the methane produced per unit of ADG, thereby resulting in advantageous in decreasing reliance on imported AH. The aim of this study was to determine whether the inclusion of 40% of common vetch (CV) hay as a feed ingredient in place of alfalfa hay (AH) would improve performance and ruminal fermentation and microbiota in fattening lambs. Twenty lambs were equally divided into two groups: control group (fed 40% AH with 20% rice straw) and CV group (fed 40% CV hay with 20% rice straw). Concerning hay quality, CV hay had greater in vitro digestibility of dry matter and neutral detergent fiber (p < 0.05) than AH. Lambs fed the CV diet had a higher average daily gain (ADG) and efficiency of feed and economy than lambs fed the control group. The NH3-N content and estimated methane produced per unit of ADG of the CV diet group were significantly lower (p < 0.05) than control group. Multiple differential microbial genera were identified, with Prevotella being the most dominant genus and a tendency towards higher (p = 0.095) in lambs offered CV diet. The higher Ruminococcus abundance (p < 0.05) was found in animals of the CV group compared to the control group. In summary, CV can be incorporated into lamb diets as a low-cost forage alternative to AH to improve feed efficiency and animal performance and to reduce methane produced per unit of ADG. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) residues (root and straw) are unique substrates for microbes in paddy soils. Microbial respiration (RH) of paddy soils is likely to be affected by substrate quality. However, no relevant study on the effects of changed rice residue chemistry by climate change on the temperature sensitivity (Q10) of the RH of soils amended with the residues is available. To fill this knowledge gap, we conducted an incubation experiment (at 15, 25, and 35 °C) with rice residues of which lignin, nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC), and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N) were modified by growing the rice plants under different CO2 and air temperature (Tair). Co-elevated CO2 and Tair decreased lignin and C/N but increased the NSC contents of the residues, leading to the greater RH in the soils amended with rice residues produced under co-elevated CO2 and Tair compared to other CO2 or Tair treatments. However, the Q10 values of the RH of soils amended with rice residues produced under different CO2 and Tair were marginally changed, probably due to other confounding factors such as soil enzyme activity and nutrient availability. Despite that, there was a negative relationship between NSC and Q10 for soils amended with straw of which C/N is lower than root, agreeing with the kinetic theory on "substrate quality–Q10 relationship". Our result suggests that residue chemistry may not affect the Q10 of soils with root residue, but for straw-amended soils, less-recalcitrant NSC rather than more-recalcitrant lignin of straw may be critical in determining the Q10 of the soils. Agricultural activities contribute to numerous waste problems and have emerged as a significant environmental concern. Nondegradable plastic residues decompose, releasing microplastics and affecting ecosystems and the environment. Consequently, biodegradable bio-composite films consisting of polylactic acid (PLA), natural rubber (NR), and rice straw (RS) have been developed with the aim of using them in agricultural applications. In this study, the PLA/NR blend, at a fixed ratio of 60/40 wt%, was filled with 3 and 5 wt% RS powder and extruded through a slit die into films. The biodegradability of all films was examined after being buried for 90 days in soil with a moisture content of 30% by weight. The neat PLA film showed the lowest weight loss percentage, 3.33%, suggesting a comparatively slower degradation rate in comparison to the PLA/NR(60:40) blend and all bio-composite films. The presence of 40 wt% NR in the film helped accelerate the biodegradation process during soil burial. The film produced from PLA/NR 60:40 wt% matrix filled with RS at 5 wt% led to rapid degradation, leading to a weight loss of 8.30%. From SEM micrographs, the morphology of all polymers after burial in soil showed fractures, the formation of pores, and obvious surface indications of fungi growing. The content of carbon decreased after soil burial, while oxygen content increased, and nitrogen was detected. The XRD analysis revealed low crystallinity in the neat PLA, consistent with the DSC analysis. The addition of NR and RS to the composites led to an increase in the crystallinity of PLA phase. All investigated materials exhibited an increase in crystallinity after being buried in soil. This research demonstrates that bio-composite films manufactured from the PLA/NR(60:40) blend filled with RS degrade more easily than unmodified PLA film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Activated carbon preparation from sugarcane leaves and rice straw by carbonization (250°C–400°C) and activation at 500°C were studied. The effects of pre-oxidation, hydrolysis of derived charcoals by boiled KMnO4aqueous solution were evaluated. The derived charcoals products were pretreated using oxidation-hydrolysis with 1–5 wt.% KMnO4at 100°C and then activated at 500°C. The derived charcoal and activated carbon products were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM-EDS and BET. Iodine number and methylene blue number of derived products were also used for the analysis of the products. It was found that fabricated charcoal materials made at 350°C–400°C possess good characteristics with low content of surface functional groups and high carbon content. After pre-oxidation-hydrolysis and activation at 500°C, the resulting derived activated carbon materials from charcoals with 400°C carbonization temperature have high content of oxygen containing surface functional groups such as Mn-O, Si-O, Si-O-Si, C-O, or O-H. In addition, MnO2accumulated on the surface of the derived activated carbon products. The surface area and pore volume of the activated carbon products have also increased with increasing of KMnO4concentration from 1 to 3 wt.% and then decreased with 5 wt.% used during activation. Therefore, activated carbon products made by pre-oxidation-hydrolysis with 3 wt.% KMnO4were used for Fe(III) adsorption experiments. It was found that Fe(III) adsorption on the activated carbon materials can be fitted with both the Freundlich and the Langmuir models. The calculated maximum Fe(III) adsorption capacities of sugarcane leaves derived activated carbon and rice straw derived activated carbon products were 50.00 and 39.37 mg/g, respectively. It was shown that the effect of pre-oxidation-hydrolysis by KMnO4and activation at 500°C are beneficial for activated carbon preparation with environmentally friendly and low-cost simplified operation. To investigate the effects of biogas slurry substitution for fertilizer on rice yield, fertilizer utilization efficiency, and soil fertility, a field experiment was conducted on rice–wheat rotation soil in the Chaohu Lake Basin for two consecutive years, with the following six treatments: no fertilization (CK), conventional fertilization (CF), optimized fertilization (OF), biogas slurry replacing 15% of fertilizer (15% OFB), biogas slurry replacing 30% of fertilizer (30% OFB), and biogas slurry replacing 50% of fertilizer (50% OFB). The field experiment results showed that, compared with CF treatment, OF treatment in 2022 and 2023 significantly increased (p < 0.05) rice yield, promoted the uptake of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) by grains and straws, improved fertilizer utilization efficiency, and increased the contents of soil organic C (SOC), NH4+-N, NO3−-N, hydrolysable N, and available P. The 15% OFB and 30% OFB treatments significantly increased (p < 0.05) rice grain and straw yields compared with CF treatment, and rice grain and straw yields were the highest in the 30% OFB treatment. Compared with CF and OF treatments, 30% OFB treatment significantly increased (p < 0.05) the N, P, and K uptake of grains and straws and increased the fertilizer utilization efficiency. Compared with CF treatment, the grain yield of 50% OFB treatment was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in 2022, and there was no significant difference in 2023, which may be because the biogas slurry was applied before planting in 2023 to provide more nutrients for early rice growth. Compared with CF treatment, 30% OFB treatment significantly increased (p < 0.05) the contents of SOC, NH4+-N, available K, and hydrolysable N. In summary, optimizing N and K topdressing methods can increase rice yield and improve the fertilizer utilization efficiency and soil fertility. The 30% OFB treatment resulted in the highest rice yield, fertilizer utilization efficiency, and improved soil fertility, indicating that biogas slurry replacing 30% of fertilizer was the best application mode for rice in this region. As one of the world's most significant staple crops, rice has played a crucial part in meeting the primary demand for food for inhabitants across the globe. China and India are the two major producers and consumers of rice as compared to the rest of the world. Despite that, several environmental and health hazards are associated with rice residue, i.e., rice straw. In recent years, the emission of greenhouse gases, deterioration of the soil characteristics and production of hazardous smog have become significant issues that are usually faced during the open-field burning of rice straw in the northern region of India. Several studies have validated the alarming threats of these issues, but on the ground level, suitable measures are yet to be taken. The present review article aims to provide comprehensive details about the utilization of rice straw in various in-situ and ex-situ technologies while highlighting the physical, chemical, thermal and biological characteristics for its application in upcoming technologies with a special emphasis on Northern India. Apart from that, particular emphasis has been given to the initiatives commenced by the government of India for the management of rice straw. A Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis has been carried out to mitigate the problems related to rice straw, followed by a brief discussion of future perspectives along with sustainable development goals. The data outlined in the article is anticipated to aid the researchers, stakeholders and concerned authorities in improvising the existing practices or to attain new findings for the sustainable management of rice straw.
