Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to discuss particular features of the public debate around the COVID-19 pandemic and its mitigation strategies in Croatian media from the beginning of 2020 to mid-September of the same year. Design/methodology/approach: The discussion is theoretically grounded on Luhmann's concept of moral communication combined with the key assumption of critical discourse analysis that language reflects a position of power of social actors. Based on these premises, the analysis of a sample of articles in a chosen online media was conducted to uncover the moral codes in the public debate concerning the corona outbreak and connect them with specific moral discourses of particular social actors. Findings: The findings clearly indicate that the communication about the pandemic is considerably imbued with moralization and that moral coding is profoundly used to generate preferred types of behaviour of citizens and their compliance with the imposed epidemiologic measures. In conclusion, Luhmann's claim of moralization as a contentious form of communication is confirmed as the examined public discussion fosters confrontations and generates disruptions rather than contributing to a productive dialogue among diverse social actors. Originality/value: The novelty of the approach lies in the combination of Luhman's conceiving of moral communication with critical discourse analysis that, taken together, entails a pertinent research tool for analysing relevant attributes of the ongoing vibrant debate on the coronavirus outbreak. This paper presents a stochastic model for COVID-19 that takes into account factors such as incubation times, vaccine effectiveness, and quarantine periods in the spread of the virus in symptomatically contagious populations. The paper outlines the conditions necessary for the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for the stochastic model. Additionally, the paper employs nonlinear analysis to demonstrate some results on the ergodic aspect of the stochastic model. The model is also simulated and compared to deterministic dynamics. To validate and demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed system, the paper compares the results of the infected class with actual cases from Iraq, Bangladesh, and Croatia. The paper addresses the state of Croatian film heritage and it questions the relationship between competent institutions and the whole society regarding the issue. This relationship is best reflected in two facts. On the one hand, not even today, in 2020, does Croatia have an institution that would exclusively deal with an important segment of our history and culture - film industry. On the other hand, not even today, in 2020, nineteen years after the Agreement on Succession Issues was signed, not a single piece of film material foreseen to be returned has been given back. The article focuses on Croatia, in light of the tenth anniversary of Krajina's recapture. Operation Storm, the Croatian military assault on Krajina, the would-be secessionist Serbian state in Croatia, with its capital at Knin, has left deep scars. Before the war some 600,000 Serbs lived in Croatia, making up 12% of the total population. According to the census of 2001, only just over 200,000, or 4.5% of the population, live there today. Reliable and up-to-date figures are hard to find. The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe reckons the number may be higher, pointing out that many Serbs do not want to identify themselves as such. The Croatian government claims that some 95,000 Serbs have returned from other countries in the past ten years. But as many as 40% have come back on paper only. They have reclaimed their Croatian citizenship and their property--and promptly left again. Sasa Milosevic, the programme director of the Serbian Democratic Forum in Zagreb, which helps returnees, believes that the 2001 census figures are broadly right, and that Serb numbers are now falling because so many who did return were old. He thinks another 150,000 Serb refugees are still in either Serbia or Bosnia. It all sounds gloomy; yet there are hopeful signs. The prime minister, Ivo Sanader, has worked hard to reach out to remaining Croatian Serbs, not least because his government relies on the votes of Serb deputies. Much has been done to return property to those who fled, to the extent of evicting Bosnian Croats who settled in Serbs' houses. The biggest problems for Croatian Serbs are the weak economy and job discrimination.
