The article examines roles and relationships in schools in the United States. The objectives of the Woodlawn Experimental Schools Project (WESP) emerges from the need to restructure the social system in terms of its community through mutuality of effort by intervention having two foci: roles and relationships of persons acting within the schools; and roles and relationships acting in the home and community. WESP takes into account change in terms of how people work together as well as which people work together.

The article analyzes the various statements of educational purpose made by education professionals and various individuals in the United States. According to the author, most of these statements seem to allude to the larger needs of mankind and appear to support the advocates of liberal education. The author is predicting that a revolution is coming in the educational field that will broaden the role of education; eventually including the larger society and addressing the needs of humans to develop.
