Objective To investigate the effect of stereotactic minimally invasive surgery on immune level and activities of daily living in elderly patients with glioma. Methods Ninety elderly patients with glioma admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University from March 2020 to February 2022 were selected as the study subjects and divided into two groups according to the random number table, 45 cases for each group. The control group was treated with conventional craniotomy and the observation group was treated with stereotactic minimally invasive surgery. The clinical efficacy, activities of daily living (ADL) score, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score, peripheral blood immune parameters T helper (Th) 1, Th2 and Th17 levels were compared between the two groups. Results The overall response rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group. The recurrence rate at 1 year after surgery was lower than that in the control group. After treatment, the ADL score in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, the NIHSS score was lower than that in the control group, the Th1 level was higher than that in the control group, and the Th2 and Th17 levels were lower than those in the control group. Abstract Heart failure causes considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide. Clinically applied drugs for the treatment of heart failure are still severely limited by poor delivery efficiency to the heart and off-target consumption. Inspired by the high heart delivery efficiency of inhaled drugs, we present an inhalable cardiac-targeting peptide (CTP)-modified calcium phosphate (CaP) nanoparticle for the delivery of TP-10, a selective inhibitor of PDE10A. The CTP modification significantly promotes cardiomyocyte and fibroblast targeting during the pathological state of heart failure in male mice. TP-10 is subsequently released from TP-10@CaP-CTP and effectively attenuates cardiac remodelling and improved cardiac function. In view of these results, a low dosage (2.5 mg/kg/2 days) of inhaled medication exerted good therapeutic effects without causing severe lung injury after long-term treatment. In addition, the mechanism underlying the amelioration of heart failure is investigated, and the results reveal that the therapeutic effects of this system on cardiomyocytes and cardiac fibroblasts are mainly mediated through the cAMP/AMPK and cGMP/PKG signalling pathways. By demonstrating the targeting capacity of CTP and verifying the biosafety of inhalable CaP nanoparticles in the lung, this work provides a perspective for exploring myocardium-targeted therapy and presents a promising clinical strategy for the long-term management of heart failure.

Abstract Background The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of a multiparametric ultrasound imaging omics model in predicting the risk of postoperative recurrence and molecular typing of breast cancer. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 534 female patients diagnosed with breast cancer through preoperative ultrasonography and pathology, from January 2018 to June 2023 at the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University. Univariate analysis and multifactorial logistic regression modeling were used to identify independent risk factors associated with clinical characteristics. The PyRadiomics package was used to delineate the region of interest in selected ultrasound images and extract radiomic features. Subsequently, radiomic scores were established through Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression and Support Vector Machine (SVM) methods. The predictive performance of the model was assessed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. Evaluation of diagnostic efficacy and clinical practicability was conducted through calibration curves and decision curves. Results In the training set, the AUC values for the postoperative recurrence risk prediction model were 0.9489, and for the validation set, they were 0.8491. Regarding the molecular typing prediction model, the AUC values in the training set and validation set were 0.93 and 0.92 for the HER-2 overexpression phenotype, 0.94 and 0.74 for the TNBC phenotype, 1.00 and 0.97 for the luminal A phenotype, and 1.00 and 0.89 for the luminal B phenotype, respectively. Based on a comprehensive analysis of calibration and decision curves, it was established that the model exhibits strong predictive performance and clinical practicability. Conclusion The use of multiparametric ultrasound imaging omics proves to be of significant value in predicting both the risk of postoperative recurrence and molecular typing in breast cancer. This non-invasive approach offers crucial guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of the condition.

Abstract Objective To avoid deviation caused by the traditional scale method, the present study explored the accuracy, advantages, and disadvantages of different objective detection methods in evaluating lower extremity motor function in elderly individuals. Methods Studies on lower extremity motor function assessment in elderly individuals published in the PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and EMBASE databases in the past five years were searched. The methodological quality of the included trials was assessed using RevMan 5.4.1 and Stata, followed by statistical analyses. Results In total, 19 randomized controlled trials with a total of 2626 participants, were included. Src homology 2 domain-containing tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP2) is an essential tyrosine phosphatase that is pivotal in regulating various cellular signaling pathways such as cell growth, differentiation, and survival. The activation of SHP2 has been shown to have a therapeutic effect in colitis and Parkinson's disease. Thus, the identification of SHP2 activators and a complete understanding of their mechanism is required. We used a two-step screening assay to determine a novel allosteric activator of SHP2 that stabilizes it in an open conformation. Oleanolic acid was identified as a suitable candidate. By binding to R362, K364, and K366 in the active center of the PTP domain, oleanolic acid maintained the active open state of SHP2, which facilitated the binding between SHP2 and its substrate. This oleanolic acid-activated SHP2 hindered Th17 differentiation by disturbing the interaction between STAT3 and IL-6Rα and inhibiting the activation of STAT3. Furthermore, via the activation of SHP2 and subsequent attenuation of the STAT3–Th17 axis, oleanolic acid effectively mitigated colitis in mice. This protective effect was abrogated by SHP2 knockout or administration of the SHP2 inhibitor SHP099. These findings underscore the potential of oleanolic acid as a promising therapeutic agent for treating inflammatory bowel diseases.

Abstract Background Low concentrations of S100B have neurotrophic effects and can promote nerve growth and repair, which plays an essential role in the pathophysiological and histopathological alterations of major depressive disorder (MDD) during disease development. Studies have shown that plasma S100B levels are altered in patients with MDD. In this study, we investigated whether the plasma S100B levels in MDD differ between genders. Methods We studied 235 healthy controls (HCs) (90 males and 145 females) and 185 MDD patients (65 males and 120 females). Plasma S100B levels were detected via multifactor assay. The Mahalanobis distance method was used to detect the outliers of plasma S100B levels in the HC and MDD groups. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to test the normality of six groups of S100B samples. The Mann–Whitney test and Scheirer-Ray-Hare test were used for the comparison of S100B between diagnoses and genders, and the presence of a relationship between plasma S100B levels and demographic details or clinical traits was assessed using Spearman correlation analysis. Results All individuals in the HC group had plasma S100B levels that were significantly greater than those in the MDD group. In the MDD group, males presented significantly higher plasma S100B levels than females. In the male group, the plasma S100B levels in the HC group were significantly higher than those in the MDD group, while in the female group, no significant difference was found between the HC and MDD groups. In the male MDD subgroup, there was a positive correlation between plasma S100B levels and years of education. In the female MDD subgroup, there were negative correlations between plasma S100B levels and age and suicidal ideation. Conclusions In summary, plasma S100B levels vary with gender and are decreased in MDD patients, which may be related to pathological alterations in glial cells.

Abstract Background In observational and experimental studies, diabetes has been reported as a protective factor for aortic dissection. 3-Hydroxybutyrate, a key constituent of ketone bodies, has been found to favor improvements in cardiovascular disease. However, whether the protective effect of diabetes on aortic dissection is mediated by 3-hydroxybutyrate is unclear. We aimed to investigate the causal effects of diabetes on the risk of aortic dissection and the mediating role of 3-hydroxybutyrate in them through two-step Mendelian randomization. Materials and methods We performed a two-step Mendelian randomization to investigate the causal connections between diabetes, 3-hydroxybutyrate, and aortic dissection and calculate the mediating effect of 3-hydroxybutyrate. Publicly accessible data for Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, dissection of aorta and 3-hydroxybutyrate were obtained from genome-wide association studies. The association between Type 1 diabetes and dissection of aorta, the association between Type 2 diabetes and dissection of aorta, and mediation effect of 3-hydroxybutyrate were carried out separately. Results The IVW method showed that Type 1 diabetes was negatively associated with the risk of aortic dissection (OR 0.912, 95% CI 0.836–0.995), The weighted median, simple mode and weighted mode method showed consistent results. The mediated proportion of 3-hydroxybutyrate on the relationship between Type 1 diabetes and dissection of aorta was 24.80% (95% CI 5.12–44.47%). The IVW method showed that Type 2 diabetes was negatively associated with the risk of aortic dissection (OR 0.763, 95% CI 0.607–0.960), The weighted median, simple mode and weighted mode method showed consistent results. 3-Hydroxybutyrate does not have causal mediation effect on the relationship between Type 2 diabetes and dissection of aorta. Conclusion Mendelian randomization study revealed diabetes as a protective factor for dissection of aorta. The protective effect of type 1 diabetes on aortic dissection was partially mediated by 3-hydroxybutyrate, but type 2 diabetes was not 3-hydroxybutyrate mediated. Graphical abstract

Abstract Oxygen is essential for aerobic organisms, but little is known about its role in antiviral immunity. Here, we report that during responses to viral infection, hypoxic conditions repress antiviral-responsive genes independently of HIF signaling. EGLN1 is identified as a key mediator of the oxygen enhancement of antiviral innate immune responses. Under sufficient oxygen conditions, EGLN1 retains its prolyl hydroxylase activity to catalyze the hydroxylation of IRF3 at proline 10. This modification enhances IRF3 phosphorylation, dimerization and nuclear translocation, leading to subsequent IRF3 activation. Furthermore, mice and zebrafish with Egln1 deletion, treatment with the EGLN inhibitor FG4592, or mice carrying an Irf3 P10A mutation are more susceptible to viral infections. These findings not only reveal a direct link between oxygen and antiviral responses, but also provide insight into the mechanisms by which oxygen regulates innate immunity.

Objective In the process of shield construction under-passing the existing metro line in water-rich pebble stratum, irregular settlement of the overlying soil mass beyond control range may occur, potentially leading to issues such as underground water gushing and ground collapse. Therefore, it is necessary to research the construction technology for shield under-passing in proximity to operation metro tunnel in water-rich pebble stratum. Method Taking the case of shield under-passing existing Chengdu Metro Line 4 at the newly-built Fengxi Avenue Station on Chengdu Metro Line 17, on the basis of introducing project overview, four land subsidence monitoring points and four deep soil mass settlement monitoring points are selected to analyze the stratum settlement variation law during shield excavation process. A three-dimensional finite element model is created using MIDAS GTS, simulating the reinforcement construction with a combination of 38 m super-long pipe shed and oblique angle grouting. The pre-reinforcement effect on Line 4 tunnel is analyzed. Based on this, the timing for ground tracking grouting is determined, and its effectiveness is further analyzed. Result & Conclusion The reinforcement measures effectively enhance the overall integrity of structure bottom soil mass, improve the structural loading conditions, and successfully control the structural settlement of Line 4.

Abstract Background Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) might be associated with maternal spontaneous fetal loss, while evidence among Chinese population is limited. This study aims to explore the associations of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) among women and their spouses with the risk of spontaneous abortion and stillbirth. Method Data were from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2014 survey. ACEs were categorized into intra-familial ACEs and extra-familial ACEs. The associations of maternal and paternal ACEs with women’s history of spontaneous abortion and stillbirth were investigated by logistic regression. Results 7,742 women were included with 9.05% and 2.47% experiencing at least one spontaneous abortion or stillbirth, respectively. Women exposed to 2, 3, and ≥ 4 ACEs were at significantly higher odds of spontaneous abortion, with adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of 1.52 (95% [CI, Confidence Interval] 1.10–2.10), 1.50 (95% CI 1.07–2.09) and 1.68 (95% CI 1.21–2.32), respectively. A significant association between ≥ 4 maternal intra-familial ACEs and stillbirth (OR 2.23, 95% CI 1.12–4.42) was also revealed. Furthermore, paternal exposures to 3 and ≥ 4 overall ACEs were significantly associated with their wives’ history of spontaneous abortion, with adjusted ORs of 1.81 (95% CI 1.01–3.26) and 1.83 (95% CI 1.03–3.25), respectively. Conclusion Both maternal and paternal ACEs were associated with spontaneous abortion, and potential mediators might need to be considered to further explore impacts of maternal and paternal ACEs on maternal reproductive health.

Abstract Control charts have been used to monitor product manufacturing processes for decades. The exponential distribution is commonly used to fit data in research related to healthcare and product lifetime. This study proposes an exponentially weighted moving average control chart with a variable sampling interval scheme to monitor the exponential process, denoted as a VSIEWMA-exp chart. The performance measures are investigated using the Markov chain method. In addition, an algorithm to obtain the optimal parameters of the model is proposed. We compared the proposed control chart with other competitors, and the results showed that our proposed method outperformed other competitors. Finally, an illustrative example with the data concerning urinary tract infections is presented.

Abstract The oncogenic role of circRNA in cancers including esophageal cancer (EC) has been well studied. However, whether and how circRNAs are involved in cancer cell metabolic processes remains largely unknown. Here, we reported that circRNA, circHIPK3, is highly expressed in ESCC cell lines and tissues. Knockdown of circHIPK3 significantly restrained cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion in vitro and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, circHIPK3 was found to act as a ceRNA by sponging miR-637 to regulate FASN expression and fatty acid metabolism in ESCC cells. Anti-sense oligonucleotide (ASO) targeting circHIPK3 substantially inhibited ESCC both in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, these results uncover a modulatory axis constituting of circHIPK3/miR-637/FASN may be a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for ESCC in the clinic.

Abstract Seawater electrolysis offers a renewable, scalable, and economic means for green hydrogen production. However, anode corrosion by Cl- pose great challenges for its commercialization. Herein, different from conventional catalysts designed to repel Cl- adsorption, we develop an atomic Ir catalyst on cobalt iron layered double hydroxide (Ir/CoFe-LDH) to tailor Cl- adsorption and modulate the electronic structure of the Ir active center, thereby establishing a unique Ir-OH/Cl coordination for alkaline seawater electrolysis. Operando characterizations and theoretical calculations unveil the pivotal role of this coordination state to lower OER activation energy by a factor of 1.93. The Ir/CoFe-LDH exhibits a remarkable oxygen evolution reaction activity (202 mV overpotential and TOF = 7.46 O2 s−1) in 6 M NaOH+2.8 M NaCl, superior over Cl--free 6 M NaOH electrolyte (236 mV overpotential and TOF = 1.05 O2 s−1), with 100% catalytic selectivity and stability at high current densities (400-800 mA cm−2) for more than 1,000 h.

Abstract Objectives In this study, we aimed to develop a multiparameter prediction model to improve the diagnostic accuracy of invasive adenocarcinoma in pulmonary pure glass nodules. Method We included patients with pulmonary pure glass nodules who underwent lung resection and had a clear pathology between January 2020 and January 2022 at the Qilu Hospital of Shandong University. We collected data on the clinical characteristics of the patients as well as their preoperative biomarker results and computed tomography features. Thereafter, we performed univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to identify independent risk factors, which were then used to develop a prediction model and nomogram. We then evaluated the recognition ability of the model via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and assessed its calibration ability using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test and calibration curves. Further, to assess the clinical utility of the nomogram, we performed decision curve analysis. Result We included 563 patients, comprising 174 and 389 cases of invasive and non-invasive adenocarcinoma, respectively, and identified seven independent risk factors, namely, maximum tumor diameter, age, serum amyloid level, pleural effusion sign, bronchial sign, tumor location, and lobulation. The area under the ROC curve was 0.839 (95% CI: 0.798–0.879) for the training cohort and 0.782 (95% CI: 0.706–0.858) for the validation cohort, indicating a relatively high predictive accuracy for the nomogram. Calibration curves for the prediction model also showed good calibration for both cohorts, and decision curve analysis showed that the clinical prediction model has clinical utility. Conclusion The novel nomogram thus constructed for identifying invasive adenocarcinoma in patients with isolated pulmonary pure glass nodules exhibited excellent discriminatory power, calibration capacity, and clinical utility.

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to determine the independent and incremental values of advanced oxidative protein product (AOPP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) in identifying arteriosclerosis in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Methods A total of 104 individuals diagnosed with OSA by polysomnography were recruited in our study. Arteriosclerosis was defined by measuring the ultrafast pulse wave velocity of the carotid artery. Peripheral venous blood samples were collected to analyze the levels of AOPP, IL-6, and GDF15 utilizing commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Results Compared to OSA patients without arteriosclerosis, those with arteriosclerosis exhibited significantly higher levels of AOPP, IL-6, and GDF15. GDF15 remained significantly associated with arteriosclerosis even after accounting for clinical factors such as age, gender, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, smoking, and the apnea–hypoxia index (AHI). GDF15 demonstrated the largest area under the curve (AUC) for identifying arteriosclerosis in OSA patients (AUC, 0.85 [0.77–0.94]). The logistic regression model, combining clinical factors and AHI, was enhanced by the inclusion of AOPP and IL-6 (Chi-square = 25.06), and even further improved when GDF15 was added (Chi-square = 50.74). The integrated discrimination index increased by 0.06 to 0.16 when GDF15 was added to the models including clinical factors, AOPP, and IL-6. Conclusions This study verified the independent and incremental value of GDF15 in identifying arteriosclerosis in OSA patients, surpassing clinical risk factors and other serum biomarkers such as AOPP and IL-6.

The synergistic effects exhibited by recent dual-atom catalysts in mechanistic studies are classified and summarized. Challenges and prospects of dual-atom catalysts in synthesis, characterization, applications, and theory are discussed.

Abstract Layered oxides of sodium‐ion batteries suffer from severe side reactions on the electrode/electrolyte interface, leading to fast capacity degradation. Although surface reconstruction strategies are widely used to solve the above issues, the utilization of the low‐cost wet chemical method is extremely challenging for moisture‐sensitive Na‐based oxide materials. Here, the solvation tuning strategy is proposed to overcome the deterioration of NaNi1/3Mn1/3Fe1/3O2 in water‐based solution and conduct the surface reconstruction. When capturing the water molecules by the solvation structure of cations, here is Li+, the structural collapse and degradation of layered oxides in water‐based solvents are greatly mitigated. Furthermore, Li(H2O)3EA+ promotes the profitable Li+/Na+ exchange to build a robust surface, which hampers the decomposition of electrolytes and the structural evolution upon cycling. Accordingly, the lifespan of Li‐reinforced materials is prolonged to three times that of the pristine one. This work represents a step forward in understanding the surface reconstruction operated in a water‐based solution for high‐performance sodium layered oxide cathodes.

Abstract Hypercholesterolaemia is a systemic metabolic disease, but the role of organs other than liver in cholesterol metabolism is unappreciated. The phenotypic characterization of the Tsc1Dmp1 mice reveal that genetic depletion of tuberous sclerosis complex 1 (TSC1) in osteocytes/osteoblasts (Dmp1‐Cre) triggers progressive increase in serum cholesterol level. The resulting cholesterol metabolic dysregulation is shown to be associated with upregulation and elevation of serum amyloid A3 (SAA3), a lipid metabolism related factor, in the bone and serum respectively. SAA3, elicited from the bone, bound to toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4) on hepatocytes to phosphorylate c‐Jun, and caused impeded conversion of cholesterol to bile acids via suppression on cholesterol 7 α‐hydroxylase (Cyp7a1) expression. Ablation of Saa3 in Tsc1Dmp1 mice prevented the CYP7A1 reduction in liver and cholesterol elevation in serum. These results expand the understanding of bone function and hepatic regulation of cholesterol metabolism and uncover a potential therapeutic use of pharmacological modulation of SAA3 in hypercholesterolaemia.

With the development of energy storage technology, the new energy storage materials are more diverse. The sodium metal has the advantages of high energy density, rich resource reserves, and low costs for raw materials, becoming promising advanced energy storage materials for application. However, the low tensile strength of sodium metal makes it difficult to process deformation while its severe viscosity and low melting point affect the subsequent manufactory and application of batteries. These characteristics hinder the processing and preparation of thin‐sodium metal. The designs of composite‐supporting structure, alloying, and the interface strengthening for sodium metal can effectively overcome the difficulties in preparation of the thin sodium. In this review, the design principles of thin sodium in terms of processing and preparation, according to the physical and chemical properties of sodium metal, are discussed. Meanwhile, the key challenges and new development opportunities are addressed for the processing and preparation of the thin‐sodium metal, which is beneficial for deeply understanding the reliable fabrication and realizing the practical application of thin‐sodium metals.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasingly recognized for its global prevalence and potential progression to more severe liver diseases such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The primary treatment for NASH is modifying lifestyle through dietary or exercise interventions. The aim of the current study is to investigate the roles of Fufang Zhenzhu Tiaozhi polysaccharides (FTZPs) in mice with NASH. FTZPs were concurrently administered to high-fat diet (HFD)-induced 24-week NASH model mice. FTZPs treatment effectively improved liver lipid metabolism, reduced inflammation and fibrosis, improved the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier, and modulated the structure of the intestinal microbiota. FTZPs treatment significantly reduced the abundance of Gammaproteobacteria, Clostridium, and Coprococcus while as induced the abundance of Dehalobacteraceae and Dehalobacterium. Furthermore, sixteen differential metabolites were screened by metabolomics, and the change of asparagine was the most significant. In addition, the correlation analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between asparagine and the aforementioned differential bacteria. The present study demonstrated that FTZPs, as the fundamental pharmacological elements of FTZ (Fufang Zhenzhu Tiaozhi), protect against NASH by improving intestinal barrier damage and regulating intestinal flora with the increase in asparagine.

Abstract Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to the development of secondary brain injury (SBI) following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and represents a promising therapeutic target. Celastrol, the primary active component of Tripterygium wilfordii, is a natural product that exhibits mitochondrial and neuronal protection in various cell types. This study aims to investigate the neuroprotective effects of celastrol against ICH‐induced SBI and explore its underlying mechanisms. Celastrol improves neurobehavioral and cognitive abilities in mice with autologous blood‐induced ICH, reduces neuronal death in vivo and in vitro, and promotes mitochondrial function recovery in neurons. Single‐cell nuclear sequencing reveals that the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/cAMP‐activated exchange protein‐1 (EPAC‐1) signaling pathways are impacted by celastrol. Celastrol binds to cNMP (a domain of EPAC‐1) to inhibit its interaction with voltage‐dependent anion‐selective channel protein 1 (VDAC1) and blocks the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores. After neuron‐specific knockout of EPAC1, the neuroprotective effects of celastrol are diminished. In summary, this study demonstrates that celastrol, through its interaction with EPAC‐1, ameliorates mitochondrial dysfunction in neurons, thus potentially improving SBI induced by ICH. These findings suggest that targeting EPAC‐1 with celastrol can be a promising therapeutic approach for treating ICH‐induced SBI.

Summary: Adipose tissue remodeling and dysfunction, characterized by elevated inflammation and insulin resistance, play a central role in obesity-related development of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular diseases. Long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs) are important regulators of cellular functions. Here, we describe the functions of linc-ADAIN (adipose anti-inflammatory), an adipose lincRNA that is downregulated in white adipose tissue of obese humans. We demonstrate that linc-ADAIN knockdown (KD) increases KLF5 and interleukin-8 (IL-8) mRNA stability and translation by interacting with IGF2BP2. Upregulation of KLF5 and IL-8, via linc-ADAIN KD, leads to an enhanced adipogenic program and adipose tissue inflammation, mirroring the obese state, in vitro and in vivo. KD of linc-ADAIN in human adipose stromal cell (ASC) hTERT adipocytes implanted into mice increases adipocyte size and macrophage infiltration compared to implanted control adipocytes, mimicking hallmark features of obesity-induced adipose tissue remodeling. linc-ADAIN is an anti-inflammatory lincRNA that limits adipose tissue expansion and lipid storage.

ObjectiveTo develop a robust machine learning prediction model for the automatic screening and diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using five advanced algorithms, namely Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), and Random Forest (RF) to provide substantial support for early clinical diagnosis and intervention.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical data from 439 patients who underwent polysomnography at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University between October 2019 and October 2022. Predictor variables such as demographic information [age, sex, height, weight, body mass index (BMI)], medical history, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) were used. Univariate analysis was used to identify variables with significant differences, and the dataset was then divided into training and validation sets in a 4:1 ratio. The training set was established to predict OSA severity grading. The validation set was used to assess model performance using the area under the curve (AUC). Additionally, a separate analysis was conducted, categorizing the normal population as one group and patients with moderate-to-severe OSA as another. The same univariate analysis was applied, and the dataset was divided into training and validation sets in a 4:1 ratio. The training set was used to build a prediction model for screening moderate-to-severe OSA, while the validation set was used to verify the model's performance.ResultsAmong the four groups, the LightGBM model outperformed others, with the top five feature importance rankings of ESS total score, BMI, sex, hypertension, and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), where Age, ESS total score and BMI played the most significant roles. In the dichotomous model, RF is the best performer of the five models respectively. The top five ranked feature importance of the best-performing RF models were ESS total score, BMI, GERD, age and Dry mouth, with ESS total score and BMI being particularly pivotal.ConclusionMachine learning-based prediction models for OSA disease grading and screening prove instrumental in the early identification of patients with moderate-to-severe OSA, revealing pertinent risk factors and facilitating timely interventions to counter pathological changes induced by OSA. Notably, ESS total score and BMI emerge as the most critical features for predicting OSA, emphasizing their significance in clinical assessments. The dataset will be publicly available on my Github.

Staphylococcus aureus has become one of the most common pathogens in clinical tissue infection, and it is easy to form biofilm. Incomplete removal of biofilms often leads to recurrent infections, and more serious is the possibility of bacteria developing drug resistance. Therefore, the effective eradication of refractory biofilms is essential. Herein, a temperature-sensitive hydrogel was prepared by doping the photothermal carbon dots (PTCDs) chelated by Ag+, and the AIPH which could produce alkyl radicals in response to heat into the thermodissolved gelatin. Under the irradiation of 660 nm laser, the PTCDs generated heat to dissolve the hydrogel, and promoted chelation of silver ions in PTCDs for chemical sterilization. Meanwhile, the heat generated by the PTCDs induced the 2,2′-azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl) propane] dihydrochloride (AIPH) to produce alkyl free radical sterilization, achieving the purpose of photothermal/thermodynamic/chemical synergistic to kill Staphylococci aureus and destroy its biofilm. Therefore, the biocompatible PTCDs@Ag-AIPH hydrogel proposed in this study was a promising composite that could eliminate biofilms and promoted wound healing, showing good potential in future biomedical applications.

Face Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) is critical for enhancing the security of facial recognition systems against sophisticated attacks. This study explores the use of general Image Quality Assessment (IQA) methods in face PAD, offering an alternative strategy that deviates from traditional, face-specific PAD techniques. Our evaluation of eight widely-used IQA methods across four PAD databases is structured around three distinct experimental protocols. Preliminary findings indicate that the general IQA methods are not fully effective in differentiating between genuine and attack samples, highlighting the need for modification. Nonetheless, a notable enhancement in performance is observed following the re-training of these methods using PAD datasets, bringing their effectiveness in line with that of advanced traditional PAD methods. This study provides evidence for the potential of general IQA in bolstering the resilience of face recognition systems against presentation attacks.

This study demonstrates the first work that achieves accurate modeling of Hydrogen plasmatreated (H-treated) p-GaN gate devices with the ASM-GaN model, facilitating simulations for applications in monolithic integrated circuit (IC) design. The workflow for ASM-GaN model parameter extraction and optimization using IC-CAP is proposed. The I-V characteristics of both Enhancement / Depletion (E/D) mode devices are modeled and fitted. The impact of device capacitance on the dynamic properties of monolithic IC is investigated through the ASM model. The results demonstrate that Cds, Cgd, and Cgs have different effects on the monolithic logic circuit performances. The high-level fitting of experimental data and circuit simulation of Inverter, NAND, and Comparator circuits proves the credibility of the modeling workflow and device capacitance modulation. This work provides a method to speed up the GaN monolithic IC design by accurate modeling with fast parameter extraction workflow regardless of the fabrication process. The reliable prediction of the circuit’s dynamic performance will lay the foundation for designing and scaling up the GaN monolithic IC application.

Abstract Microdamage and its related inflammation contribute to the development of radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA). Inflammation and cell death in damaged tissues are associated with cell-free DNA (cfDNA) release. Here we investigated whether circulating cfDNA could be a potential biomarker for evaluating disease activity and treatment response in r-axSpA. Circulating cfDNA was detected in the discovery and validation cohort with 79 and 60 newly diagnosed r-axSpA patients respectively and 42 healthy controls using the Quant-iT PicoGreen dsDNA reagent and kit. As a result, cfDNA levels were significantly higher in r-axSpA patients compared with healthy controls in the discovery and validation cohort. Moreover, cfDNA levels were positively correlated with CRP, ASDAS-CRP and neutrophil counts. Additionally, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) combined with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs or tumor necrosis factor inhibitors but not NSAIDs alone could reduce cfDNA levels. Moreover, a decrease of cfDNA levels after treatment was associated with an effective therapeutic response. Intriguingly, patients with higher levels of cfDNA at diagnosis responded better to combination therapy rather than NSAIDs. However, patients with lower levels of cfDNA displayed similar responses to combination or mono-NSAID treatment. In conclusion, circulating cfDNA levels showed a significant correlation with disease activity as well as treatment efficacy in patients with r-axSpA. Moreover, cfDNA at diagnosis might predict the response to different therapy. Consequently, cfDNA may serve as a useful biomarker of inflammation in r-axSpA.

Abstract Student feedback literacy has been widely recognized as a crucial lever in shaping self-regulated autonomous learners. Extant research has displayed a whole variety of feedback interventions to promote student feedback literacy. However, these discussions are either of a conceptual nature or draw on the experiences of feed-back literate teachers. The perceptions and practices of those in-service teachers count in the cultivation of student feedback literacy, which quite unexpectedly have drawn scant attention. This qualitative study explored how university EFL teachers perceived the need to cultivate student feedback literacy and their actual practices through thematic analysis about data gathered from semi-structured interviews with 9 Chinese university EFL teachers and classroom observation. Results revealed an obvious lack of awareness among the participants to purposefully develop student feedback literacy, underpinned by the conceptualization of feedback as teacher-centered and compounded by a shortage of relevant guiding policies. However, the participants subconsciously promoted student feedback literacy through cognitive steering, behavioral regulation and affective support in unsystematic and disorganized feedback interventions. The findings highlight the exigency for teachers to deepen their understandings about feedback and call for policy support from the authorities. Implications are discussed to chart the potentials to optimize the cultivation of student feedback literacy.

Abstract Background Identifying lymph node metastasis areas during surgery for early invasive lung adenocarcinoma remains challenging. The aim of this study was to develop a nomogram mathematical model before the end of surgery for predicting lymph node metastasis in patients with early invasive lung adenocarcinoma. Methods In this study, we included patients with invasive lung adenocarcinoma measuring ≤ 2 cm who underwent pulmonary resection with definite pathology at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University from January 2020 to January 2022. Preoperative biomarker results, clinical features, and computed tomography characteristics were collected. The enrolled patients were randomized into a training cohort and a validation cohort in a 7:3 ratio. The training cohort was used to construct the predictive model, while the validation cohort was used to test the model independently. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent risk factors. The prediction model and nomogram were established based on the independent risk factors. Recipient operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to assess the discrimination ability of the model. Calibration capability was assessed using the Hosmer–Lemeshow test and calibration curves. The clinical utility of the nomogram was assessed using decision curve analysis (DCA). Results The overall incidence of lymph node metastasis was 13.23% (61/461). In intersatellite laser communications, the centroiding accuracy of a laser spot is crucial for maintaining steady communication links. However, the systematic error introduced by discrete sampling restricts further improvement of centroiding accuracy when choosing algorithms that are widely used in engineering. Additionally, the ultrahigh computational complexity and multiple-step iterations of the Gaussian fitting (GF) algorithm are unsuitable for real-time implementation, even though the algorithm can achieve the highest centroiding accuracy. In this study, we propose a laser spot centroiding algorithm based on template correlation to simultaneously satisfy the requirements of real-time performance and accuracy. The proposed algorithm evaluates the central location of a laser spot by obtaining the index of the maximum Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). Simulations performed under different conditions reveal that the proposed algorithm is robust against the interference of background noise and the bad pixels. Moreover, experimental verification is performed based on the implementation on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) in real-time, meanwhile its accuracy is on the same level as that of the GF algorithm and better than those of other widely-used algorithms. Therefore, the proposed algorithm is suitable for accurate real-time locating of laser spots in engineering applications of the intersatellite laser communications.

This research investigated the effect of different storage temperatures on the compositional changes, physicochemical characteristics, and functional properties of hawthorn berries. Storage at 25 °C resulted in the gradual decrease of the moisture, hardness, sugar, titratable acid, and colour of hawthorn berries. These changes decreased with decreasing storage temperature, and the minimal changes happened at frozen storage (-18 °C). Similarly, the decreasing rate of ascorbic acid, extractable polyphenol (EPP), and flavonoids during storage also decreased with reducing storage temperature (25 °C > 4 °C > -18 °C). Hydrolysable polyphenol (HPP) was relatively stable during the hawthorn storage, and non-extractable proanthocyanidins (NEPA) increased with decreasing temperature. Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of EPP and HPP decreased at 25 °C, while polyphenolic oxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD) activities decreased. Decreasing the storage temperature can improve the stability of the nutritional properties, antioxidant capacity, and enzyme activity of hawthorn. The specific storage temperature depends on the final processing conditions and the purposes of the hawthorn berries.

Abstract Introduction Parietal pleurectomy with bullectomy has been established as an effective method for preventing the recurrence of primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP). Our center introduced enhanced technical measures in uniportal thoracoscopic parietal pleurectomy with bullectomy for patients with PSP, aiming to document our initial experience and assess the procedure's effectiveness in preventing the recurrence of PSP. Methods We analyzed the clinical data of 86 patients with PSP who underwent the improved uniportal thoracoscopic parietal pleurectomy with bullectomy between July 2019 and August 2022. During the procedure, the parietal pleura above the second intercostal space was stripped but not removed. Instead, it was retained in the thoracic cavity using a piece of pedunculated pleura. Subsequently, the stumps of the lung were covered by the preserved parietal pleura. Results The results of the study showed that the mean operative time was 59.87 ± 16.93 min, and the postoperative drainage duration averaged 3.94 ± 2.17 days. The mean intraoperative blood loss was 24.33 ± 48.91 ml, and the mean postoperative drainage volume was 289.00 ± 170.03 ml. Prolonged air leakage for more than 5 days was observed in five patients (5.81%), but no other postoperative complications were recorded. During the follow‐up, one patient (1.16%) experienced a recurrence of pneumothorax. Conclusions The perioperative results of bullectomy with the improved pleurectomy technique are deemed satisfactory. The various technical steps attempted at our center are found to be feasible and safe, and they may contribute to reducing the rates of recurrence in PSP.

Abstract The popularity of small office and home office routers has brought convenience, but it also caused many security issues due to vulnerabilities. Black-box fuzzing through network protocols to discover vulnerabilities becomes a viable option. The main drawbacks of state-of-the-art black-box fuzzers can be summarized as follows. First, the feedback process neglects to discover the missing fields in the raw message. Secondly, the guidance of the raw message content in the mutation process is aimless. Finally, the randomized validity of the test case structure can cause most fuzzing tests to end up with an invalid response of the tested device. To address these challenges, we propose a novel black-box fuzzing framework called MSLFuzzer. MSLFuzzer infers the raw message structure according to the response from a tested device and generates a message segment list. Furthermore, MSLFuzzer performs semantic, sequence, and stability analyses on each message segment to enhance the complementation of missing fields in the raw message and guide the mutation process. We construct a dataset of 35 real-world vulnerabilities and evaluate MSLFuzzer. The evaluation results show that MSLFuzzer can find more vulnerabilities and elicit more types of responses from fuzzing targets. Additionally, MSLFuzzer successfully discovered 10 previously unknown vulnerabilities.

Residual enrofloxacin (ENR) exposed in aqueous environments is challenging to the ecosphere. In this work, a layered double hydroxide CoAl-LDH was used to activate the common oxidizing agent persulfate (PS) for photodegradation of ENR, and the degradation pathways of ENR were scrutinized and elucidated. The results indicated that, under the optimal conditions obtained through orthogonal experiments, even though the degradation rate of ENR was as high as 97.72%, the removal of total organic carbon (TOC) from the system was only about 30%. Eleven probable reaction pathways were categorized, and thirty-one types of intermediates were identified in participating in the complex degradation process. The major products of ENR were P4 (C17H20FN3O3), P22 (C19H22FN3O4), P19 (C17H18FN3O3), which are mainly derived from the cleavage of the piperazine groups and quinolone rings. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the Fukui index for ENR revealed that the two N atoms in the piperazine ring were the core reactive sites in triggering the degradation chains, which were sensitive for electrophilic attack by the dominant radicals (•OH and SO4•-) generated from the composite PS-UV-CoAl-LDH system.

Abstract The surface properties of oxidic supports and their interaction with the supported metals play critical roles in governing the catalytic activities of oxide‐supported metal catalysts. When metals are supported on reducible oxides, dynamic surface reconstruction phenomena, including strong metal–support interaction (SMSI) and oxygen vacancy formation, complicate the determination of the structural–functional relationship at the active sites. Here, we performed a systematic investigation of the dynamic behavior of Au nanocatalysts supported on flame‐synthesized TiO2, which takes predominantly a rutile phase, using CO oxidation above room temperature as a probe reaction. Our analysis conclusively elucidated a negative correlation between the catalytic activity of Au/TiO2 and the oxygen vacancy at the Au/TiO2 interface. Although the reversible formation and retracting of SMSI overlayers have been ubiquitously observed on Au/TiO2 samples, the catalytic consequence of SMSI remains inconclusive. Density functional theory suggests that the electron transfer from TiO2 to Au is correlated to the presence of the interfacial oxygen vacancies, retarding the catalytic activation of CO oxidation.

BackgroundRemimazolam is a new ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine for procedural sedation and general anaesthesia, characterised by rapid onset of action, quick recovery, and organ-independent metabolism. Older patients tend to sustain more treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and worse perioperative prognoses after receiving remimazolam. However, few studies have investigated the appropriate dose of remimazolam for loss of consciousness (LOC) in geriatric patients. We designed this study to provide evidence for dose references and elucidate the relationship between age and remimazolam requirement for inducing LOC during anaesthesia induction.MethodsExactly 120 patients scheduled for general surgery under general anaesthesia were included and divided into two groups: Group A (60 patients, 18–64 years) and Group B (60 patients, ≥ 65 years). LOC, defined as a Modified Observer’s Assessment of Alertness and Sedation score at 1 had been reached, emerged after all participants received a continuous infusion of remimazolam at a rate of 0.05 mg/kg/min.ResultsThe remimazolam required for inducing LOC was 0.26 and 0.19 mg/kg in groups A and B, respectively, and the remimazolam dose in group B decreased by 26.9% compared to group A. According to the bivariate linear correlation analysis, remimazolam requirement was negatively correlated with age. Multivariable linear regression models and further adjustments for potential impact factors indicated that age was an independent factor for the remimazolam dose required for LOC.ConclusionThis study demonstrated that age was significantly and independently correlated with the remimazolam requirement for inducing LOC. To obtain haemodynamic stability during the induction of general anaesthesia, appropriately reducing the remimazolam dose is recommended for geriatric patients.

Abstract Inadequate β‐cell mass and insulin secretion are essential for the development of type 2 diabetes (T2D). TNF‐α‐induced protein 8‐like 1 (Tipe1) plays a crucial role in multiple diseases, however, a specific role in T2D pathogenesis remains largely unexplored. Herein, Tipe1 as a key regulator in T2D, contributing to the maintenance of β cell homeostasis is identified. The results show that the β‐cell‐specific knockout of Tipe1 (termed Ins2‐Tipe1BKO) aggravated diabetic phenotypes in db/db mice or in mice with high‐fat diet‐induced diabetes. Notably, Tipe1 improves β cell mass and function, a process that depends on Gαs, the α subunit of the G‐stimulating protein. Mechanistically, Tipe1 inhibited the K48‐linked ubiquitination degradation of Gαs by recruiting the deubiquitinase USP5. Consequently, Gαs or cAMP agonists almost completely restored the dysfunction of β cells observed in Ins2‐Tipe1BKO mice. The findings characterize Tipe1 as a regulator of β cell function through the Gαs/cAMP pathway, suggesting that Tipe1 may emerge as a novel target for T2D intervention.

Abstract Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), a tumor treatment modality with high tissue penetration and low side effects, is able to selectively kill tumor cells by producing cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) with ultrasound‐triggered sonosensitizers. N‐type inorganic semiconductor TiO2 has low ROS quantum yields under ultrasound irradiation and inadequate anti‐tumor activity. Herein, by using atomic layer deposition (ALD) to create a heterojunction between porous TiO2 and CoOx, the sonodynamic therapy efficiency of TiO2 can be improved. Compared to conventional techniques, the high controllability of ALD allows for the delicate loading of CoOx nanoparticles into TiO2 pores, resulting in the precise tuning of the interfaces and energy band structures and ultimately optimal SDT properties. In addition, CoOx exhibits a cascade of H2O2→O2→·O2− in response to the tumor microenvironment, which not only mitigates hypoxia during the SDT process, but also contributes to the effect of chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Correspondingly, the synergistic CDT/SDT treatment is successful in inhibiting tumor growth. Thus, ALD provides new avenues for catalytic tumor therapy and other pharmaceutical applications.

BackgroundActive surveillance has been an option for patients with low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, whether delayed surgery leads to an increased risk of local tumor metastasis remain unclear. We sought to investigate the impact of observation time on central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and multifocal disease in patients with low-risk PTC.MethodsPatients who were diagnosed with asymptomatic low-risk PTC, and with a pathological maximum tumor size ≤1.5 cm by were included. The patients were classified into observation group and immediate surgery group, and subgroup analyses were conducted by observation time period. The prevalence of CLNM, lymph node (LN) involved >5, multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC were considered as outcome variables. The changing trend and risk ratio of prevalence over observation time were evaluated by Mann-Kendall trend test and Logistics regression.ResultsOverall, 3,427 and 1,860 patients were classified to the observation group and immediate surgery group, respectively. Trend tests showed that decreasing trends both on the prevalence of CLNM and LN involved >5 over the observation time, but the difference was not statistically significant, and the prevalence of multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC showed the significant decreasing trends. After adjustment, multivariate analysis showed no statistically significant difference between observed and immediate surgery groups in the four outcome variables.ConclusionIn patients with subclinical asymptomatic low-risk PTC, observation did not result in an increased incidence of local metastatic disease, nor did the increased surgery extent in patients with delayed surgery compared to immediate surgery. These findings can strengthen the confidence in the active surveillance management for both doctors and patients.

Objective This study aimed to systematically investigate the relationship between immune-inflammatory indexes with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs).Design Cross-sectional study.Setting National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2005–2008).Participants A total of 2709 men with complete information for immune-inflammatory indexes and LUTSs were included from NHANES 2005–2008.Outcomes and analyses Automated haematology analysing devices are used to measure blood cell counts, and LUTSs were presented by standard questionnaires. Non-linear and logistic regression analyses were used to estimate their association after adjustment for confounders.Results Multivariate logistic regression showed that pan-immune-inflammation value (OR (95% CI)=1.60 (1.14 to 2.23)), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) (OR (95% CI)=1.82 (1.21 to 2.73)), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (OR (95% CI)=1.81 (1.31 to 2.49)), derived NLR (dNLR) (OR (95% CI)=1.91 (1.35 to 2.70)) and C reactive protein (CRP) (OR (95% CI)=1.71 (1.05 to 2.79)) was positively associated with LUTS. BackgroundMonounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been reported to combat saturated fatty acid (SFA)-induced cellular damage, however, their clinical effects on patients with metabolic diseases such as diabetes and hyperlipidemia are still controversial. Since comparative studies of the effects of these two types of unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) are still limited. In this study, we aimed to compare the protective effects of various UFAs on pancreatic islets under the stress of SFA-induced metabolic disorder and lipotoxicity.MethodsRat insulinoma cell line INS-1E were treated with palmitic acid (PA) with or without UFAs including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), arachidonic acid (AA), and oleic acid (OA) to determine cell viability, apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and inflammatory. In vivo, male C57BL/6 mice were fed a 60% high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 w. Then the lard in HFD was partially replaced with fish oil (FO) and olive oil (OO) at low or high proportions of energy (5% or 20%) to observe the ameliorative effects of the UFA supplement.ResultsAll UFAs significantly improved PA-induced cell viability impairment in INS-1E cells, and their alleviation on PA induced apoptosis, ER stress and inflammation were confirmed. Particularly, OA had better effects than EPA, DHA, and AA on attenuating cellular ER stress. In vivo, the diets with a low proportion of UFAs (5% of energy) had limited effects on HFD induced metabolic disorder, except for a slight improved intraperitoneal glucose tolerance in obese mice. However, when fed diets containing a high proportion of UFAs (20% of energy), both the FO and OO groups exhibited substantially improved glucose and lipid metabolism, such as decrease in total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), fasting blood glucose (FBG), and fasting blood insulin (FBI)) and improvement of insulin sensitivity evidenced by intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test (IPGTT) and intraperitoneal insulin tolerance test (IPITT). Unexpectedly, FO resulted in abnormal elevation of the liver function index aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in serum. Pathologically, OO attenuated HFD-induced compensatory hyperplasia of pancreatic islets, while this effect was not obvious in the FO group.ConclusionsBoth MUFAs and PUFAs can effectively protect islet β cells from SFA-induced cellular lipotoxicity. In particular, both OA in vitro and OO in vivo showed superior activities on protecting islets function and enhance insulin sensitivity, suggesting that MUFAs might have greater potential for nutritional intervention on diabetes.

IntroductionWe aim to predict the pathological complete response (pCR) of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer patients by constructing a Nomogram based on radiomics models, clinicopathological features, and ultrasound features.MethodsUltrasound images of 464 breast cancer patients undergoing NAC were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were further divided into the training cohort and the validation cohort. The radiomics signatures (RS) before NAC treatment (RS1), after 2 cycles of NAC (RS2), and the different signatures between RS2 and RS1 (Delta-RS/RS1) were obtained. LASSO regression and random forest analysis were used for feature screening and model development, respectively. The independent predictors of pCR were screened from clinicopathological features, ultrasound features, and radiomics models by using univariate and multivariate analysis. The Nomogram model was constructed based on the optimal radiomics model and clinicopathological and ultrasound features. The predictive performance was evaluated with the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.ResultsWe found that RS2 had better predictive performance for pCR. In the validation cohort, the area under the ROC curve was 0.817 (95%CI: 0.734-0.900), which was higher than RS1 and Delta-RS/RS1. The Nomogram based on clinicopathological features, ultrasound features, and RS2 could accurately predict the pCR value, and had the area under the ROC curve of 0.897 (95%CI: 0.866-0.929) in the validation cohort. The decision curve analysis showed that the Nomogram model had certain clinical practical value.DiscussionThe Nomogram based on radiomics signatures after two cycles of NAC, and clinicopathological and ultrasound features have good performance in predicting the NAC efficacy of breast cancer.

The calcium looping cycle (CaL) possesses outstanding CO2 capture capacity for future carbon-capturing technologies that utilise CaO sorbents to capture the CO2 in a looping cycle. However, sorbent degradation and the presence of inert materials stabilise the sorbent, thereby reducing the CO2 capture capacity. Consequently, the CaO sorbent that has degraded must be replenished, increasing the operational cost for industrial use. CaO sorbents have been modified to enhance their CO2 capture capacity and stability. However, various CaO sorbents, including limestone, dolomite, biogenesis calcium waste and industrial waste, exhibit distinct behaviour in response to these modifications. Thus, this work comprehensively reviews the CO2 capture capacity of sorbent improvement based on various CaO sorbents. Furthermore, this study provides an understanding of the effects of CO2 capture capacity based on the properties of the CaO sorbent. The properties of various CaO sorbents, such as surface area, pore volume, particle size and morphology, are influential in exhibiting high CO2 capture capacity. This review provides insights into the future development of CaL technology, particularly for carbon-capturing technologies that focus on the modifications of CaO sorbents and the properties that affect the CO2 capture capacity.

The performance of two underexploited ternary oxides – Ba3Fe2O6 and Ba5Fe2O8 are investigated for carbon dioxide capture and chemical looping oxygen uncoupling. The ternary compound Ba3Fe2O6 was found to have a structure characterised by space group Pa3¯. Experimental results have shown that both Ba3Fe2O6 and Ba5Fe2O8 are capable of cyclically capturing CO2 at temperatures above 800 °C. Ba5Fe2O8 demonstrated superior CO2 capture performance compared to Ba3Fe2O6, with consistent gravimetric CO2 uptake capacities of 4.35 wt% and 13.39 wt% at 900 °C and 1000 °C, respectively, over 20 cycles. In comparison, Ba3Fe2O6 demonstrated high initial CO2 uptake capacities which deteriorated cyclically, with 20 cycle average capacities of 7.73 wt% and 11.99 wt% at 900 °C and 1000 °C, respectively. Ba3Fe2O6 also exhibits excellent recyclability and satisfactory chemical looping oxygen uncoupling (CLOU) activity over temperature swing cycles between 550 °C and 950 °C. In contrast, the strong affinity with CO2 makes Ba5Fe2O8 unsuitable for application in chemical looping oxygen uncoupling or chemical looping air separation, especially in the presence of substantial partial pressures of CO2.

Abstract Background Current methods utilizing preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐based radiomics for assessing lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in patients with early‐stage breast cancer lack precision, limiting the options for surgical planning. Purpose This study aimed to develop a sophisticated deep learning framework called “Prior Clinico‐Radiological Features Informed Multi‐Modal MR Images Convolutional Neural Network (PCMM‐Net)” to improve the accuracy of LVI prediction in breast cancer. By incorporating multiparameter MRI and prior clinical knowledge, PCMM‐Net should enhance the precision of LVI assessment. Methods A total of 341 patients with breast cancer were randomly divided into training and validation groups at a ratio of 7:3. Imaging features were extracted from T1‐weighted, T2‐weighted, and contrast‐enhanced T1‐weighted MRI sequences. Stepwise univariate and multivariate logistic regression were employed to establish a clinico‐radiological model for LVI prediction. The radiomics model was built using redundancy and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. Then, two deep learning frameworks were developed: the Multi‐Modal MR Images Convolutional Neural Network (MM‐Net), which does not consider prior radiological features, and PCMM‐Net, which incorporates multiparameter MRI and prior clinical knowledge. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used, and the corresponding areas under the curves (AUCs) were calculated for evaluation. Results PCMM‐Net achieved the highest AUC of 0.843. The clinico‐radiological features displayed the lowest AUC value of 0.743, followed by MM‐Net with an AUC of 0.774, and radiomics with an AUC of 0.795. Conclusions This study introduces PCMM‐Net, an innovative deep learning framework that integrates prior clinico‐radiological features for accurate LVI prediction in breast cancer. PCMM‐Net demonstrates excellent diagnostic performance and facilitates the application of precision medicine.

【Objective】Sesuvium portulacastrum, a typical coastal and mangrove associate plant, is capable of retaining sand and protecting banks. It can grow normally in seawater and has a strong salt tolerance. Na+/H+ exchange (NHX) plays a key role in salt tolerance and plant growth with development. In order to understand the role of NHX in salt tolerance of S. portulacastrum, the NHX genes were identified and analyzed.【Method】In this study, the S. portulacastrum NHX genes were identified by using informatic method through its full length transcriptome data. Their physicochemical properties, conserved motifs and evolutionary relationships were analyzed, and the expression patterns of NHX genes under s alt stress were studied by quantative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).【Result】The results showed that 12 SpNHX genes were identified from S. portulacastrum and named as SpNHX1 to SpNHX12. The number of amino acids ranged from 276 to 554, with the molecular weight ranged from 31.22 to 61.21 kD, isoelectric point from 5.55 to 8.64, and instability ind ex from 32.14 to 50.54. All the proteins were hydrophobic. Phylogenetic analysis showed that SpNHX proteins can be divided into two subgroups. Similar conserved motifs composition was found in each subgroup. Multiple sequence alignment results showed that all SpNHX proteins had Na+/H+ exchange conserved domains. RNA-seq data and qRT-PCR results showed that SpNHX genes were induced to different degrees under salt stress, and SpNHX1, SpNHX9, SpNHX10, SpNHX11 and SpNHX12 were significantly up-regulated under salt stress.【Conclusion】This study clarified the expression patterns of NHXs in S. portulacastrum under high salt stress, indicating that SpNHX1, SpNHX9, SpNHX10, SpNHX11 and SpNHX12 may be involved in the response of S. portulacastrum to salt stress, which provided a theoretical basis for further research on the role of NHX in the process of salt tolerance of S. portulacastrum.
