An encyclopedia entry for the term "interleukin-4" (IL-4) is presented. IL-4 is a immunoregulatory cytokine from activated CD4 T cells of the T helper 2 subset and by basophils and mast cells which is important in regulating the production of antibodies and developing effector T-cell responses. IL-4 is a highly tissue-specific gene that is composed of 129 amino acids.
