This paper presents an overview of the research tradition focusing on technology-based new firms (TBNF) and identifies directions for possible future research. The author explores if there is any justification for concentrating on TBNFs as a distinct stream of research and provides an overview of the history of research on TBNFs. To build a case for a dedicated stream of research on TBNFs, the author explores different streams of research on TBNFs and their contributions. The author also explores the strategic management stream, which refers to all studies of TBNFs that draw on some established strategy framework. The author concludes with four technological trends identified by Bettis and Hitt (1995) that shape the competitive environment of firms: the increasing rate of technological change and diffusion; the information age, as typified by the Internet; increasing knowledge intensity; and the emergence of positive industry feedback.

This paper explores a set of intersections between entrepreneurship and strategic management. According to the authors, an analysis of intersections between entrepreneurship and strategic management should highlight opportunities for researchers in both fields to combine the design and execution of their studies in order to examine phenomena that have parallel foci and meaning. The domain intersections explored include: innovation; organizational networks; internationalization; organizational learning; top management teams and governance; and growth, flexibility and change. The authors chose these domains because of their potential to produce opportunities for integrating entrepreneurship and strategic management research. The authors also explore the increasing similarities in research methods used by entrepreneurship and strategic management scholars.

Its aim is to create and disseminate knowledge on how the use of advanced IT will impact the energy utility sector, particularly in view of the fact that this industry branch is being liberalized across Europe. This liberalization is leading to strong market competition, supplier choice for customers, and major changes in industry structure such as mergers and acquisitions that cut across the traditional regional-national monopolistic borderlines. This chapter conveys a deeper understanding of the roots of the software radio. This includes the technical evolution that has resulted in today's emphasis on SDR, and it includes the management motivations toward realizing appropriately tailored implementations. The chapter begins with an introduction to technology-demographics, a method for studying architecture. The chapter then characterizes the need for software-radio architecture. Because of the intense interest of the commercial and military sectors, and because of the fragmentation of industry into competing groups, there are competing goals for software radio evolution within standards organizations. These goals are considered in some detail since they set the stage for the competition of technical ideas.
