In this paper, we give a general overview of fuzzy research according to the results found in the ISI Web of Knowledge. We present the most cited articles in fuzzy research, the top authors, the top journals, the evolution by years and the top countries. We also provide a longer list of journals in order to be informative to the scientific community, especially for the young researchers. Note that the results given in this paper are only a general orientation because the rankings can be developed in different ways depending on the variables that we want to take into account. In this paper, we analyze the bounds of the fixed common step-size parameter GMDF μ for the generalized multidelay adaptive filter (GMDF). Frequency domain adaptive filters are attractive in applications requiring a large number of coefficients such as acoustic echo cancellation (AEC). However, the very restrictive convergence bound for block LMS has limited its usefulness. Derivations on step-size bounds for the partitioned frequency-domain block LMS have been reported recently, but are not consistent with each other. Contrary to other researchers' work, this paper derives a not-restrictive step-size bound that supports a stable GMDF. We also derive relations of step-size parameters for NLMS and GMDF to have similar convergence properties. The results of extensive simulation experiments are included in the paper. These results show the bounds and the convergence behavior predicted by the analysis is in very good agreement with the experimental results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article utilizes CFD software to investigate the smoke control system of the safety reliability for the underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. The purpose of this research is to simulate the fire occurring in the tunnel region where the smoke control system designs are corresponding to the National Federation of Paralegal Associations 130 (NFPA130). The smoke control mode of the tunnel includes the Tunnel Ventilation Fan (TVF) and Jet Air Fan (JAF) in the station. The control strategies of the TVF, JAF, and the flow phenomenon of the smoke in the fire environment are simulated by commercial software, PHOENICS. In the numerical simulation, the results show that under the conditions of turning on the TVF and JAF in 3 minutes later, if the fire in the tunnel region attains the criterion of temperature field (<60°C), the concentration of carbon monoxide (<1500ppm), radiation intensity (<6.3kW/m²) and visibility (≥ 10m), passengers can evacuate from these safe passages. The smoke control system in this paper is very useful for fire accidents of the tunnels. The study verifies that simulation result is in good agreement with the standard of NFPA130. Much research in the sciences involves modelling and prediction of the functional relationship between simultaneous time series. In this paper we present a new method to infer functional relationship between simultaneous time series based on the modified version of Singular Value Decomposition method. We firstly extract the dominant relationships, perform pattern analyses on the dominant relationships, and construct the model equations of functional relationship between the time series through the time before the forecast period of interest. We then conduct predictions on the future values of one time series from another time series based on the model equations. Several regression schemes are proposed to serve as a prediction basis. The proposed model is applied to predict the real simultaneous health outcome time series. The simulation, the predictions and the real data show good agreement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Line Spectrum Frequencies (LSF) have been the current parameter set to represent LPC coefficients in speech coding. Extensive research has been performed to exploit their interframe and intraframe correlations and quantize them more efficiently. Interframe coding of LSF's can cause error propagation when frame erasures occur. Since most LSF quantizers were designed with the primary concerns of bit-rate and complexity, less attention was paid to error propagation. In this paper, we consider the erasure performance of LSF differential scalar quantizer (DSQ) and compare it with the interframe coding method embedded in the standard G723.1 of the ITU. Our results show that with only 5% extra bit-rate, DSQ algorithm is much more robust to frame erasures and improvements in terms of spectral distortion and Enhanced modified bark spectral distortion (EMBSD) tests under various packet loss conditions are obtained. Software fault tolerance demands additional tasks like error detection and recovery through executable assertions, exception handling, diversity and redundancy based mechanisms. These mechanisms do not come for free, rather they introduce additional complexity to the core functionality. This paper presents light weight error detection and recovery mechanisms based on the rate of change in signal or data values. Maximum instantaneous and mean rates are used as plausibility checks to detect erroneous states and recover. These plausibility checks are exercised in a novel aspect oriented software fault tolerant design framework that reduces the additional logical complexity. A Lego XT Robot based case study has been completed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
