38. Realtime Rendering of Realistic Fabric with Alternation of Deformed Anisotropy.

Abstract

In this paper, an efficient method is proposed to produce photorealistic images of woven fabrics without material data such as the measured BRDFs. The proposed method is applicable both to ray tracer based offline renderers and to realtime applications such as games. In order to enhance the realism of cloth rendering, researchers have been utilizing the measured data of surface reflectance properties. Although the example-based approaches drastically enhance the realism of virtual fabric rendering, those methods have serious disadvantage that they require huge amount of storage for the various reflectance properties of diverse materials. The proposed method models the reflectance properties of woven fabric with alternating anisotropy and deformed MDF(microfacet distribution function). The experimental results show the proposed method can be successfully applied to photorealistic rendering of diverse woven fabric materials even in interactive applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. Neural Network Based Texture Segmentation Using a Markov Random Field Model.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel texture segmentation method using neural networks and a Markov random field (MRF) model. Multi-scale wavelet coefficients are used as input for the neural networks. The output of the neural network is modeled as a posterior probability. Initially, the multi-scale texture segmentation is performed by the posterior probabilities from the neural networks and MAP (maximum a posterior) classification. Then the MAP segmentation maps are produced at all scales. In order to obtain the more improved segmentation result at the finest scale, our proposed method fuses the multi-scale MAP segmentations sequentially from coarse to fine scales. This is done by computing the MAP segmentation given the segmentation map at one scale and a priori knowledge regarding contextual information which is extracted from the adjacent coarser scale segmentation. In this fusion process, the MRF prior distribution and Gibbs sampler are used, where the MRF model serves as the smoothness constraint and the Gibbs sampler acts as the MAP classifier. Abstract

The annexins are a family of approx 13 proteins that bind to acidic phospholipids in a Ca2+-dependent manner (1). The amino acid sequence of the annexins indicates four repeats (eight repeats in the case of annexin VI) of about 70 amino acids, which are highly homologous. The crystal structures of several annexins have been determined, providing the basic structure of an annexin (2-4). Each repeated sequence comprises one compact domain that consists of five α-helices wound into a right-handed superhelix. The domains are arranged in a planar, cyclic array with a convex and concave side. The convex side faces the biological membrane and contains the Ca2+- and phospholipid-binding sites. The concave side contains an N-terminus of about 40 amino acid residues and the C-terminal domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
