36. Ranking Attack Graphs with Graph Neural Networks.

Abstract

Network security analysis based on attack graphs has been applied extensively in recent years. The ranking of nodes in an attack graph is an important step towards analyzing network security. This paper proposes an alternative attack graph ranking scheme based on a recent approach to machine learning in a structured graph domain, namely, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs). Evidence is presented in this paper that the GNN is suitable for the task of ranking attack graphs by learning a ranking function from examples and generalizes the function to unseen possibly noisy data, thus showing that the GNN provides an effective alternative ranking method for attack graphs. 37. Noise Properties in Spool Valves with Cavitating Flow.

Abstract

Investigations on cavitation noise in non-circular opening spool valves have been conducted in this paper. The cavitation noise is used as a good sign to cavitation process because of its similar trends in different valves. Cavitation inception is judged from the overall sound levels and the noise spectrums, which show good similarity. However, the characteristics of the cavitation΄s distribution seem discrepant in valves with different grooves. In the valves with V-grooves, cavitation always grows up by the throttling edges, and in the valves with U-grooves, two grow-up states exist. Abstract

A successful computer system intrusion is often resulted from an attacker combining exploits of individual vulnerability. This can be modelled by attack models and attack graphs to provide a global view on system security against attacker's goal. However, as the size and complexity of attack models and attack graphs usually greatly exceeds human ability to visualize, understand and analyze, a scheme is required to identify important portions of attack models and attack graphs. Mehta et al. proposed to rank states of an attack model by the probability of an adversary reaching a state by a sequence of exploiting individual vulnerabilities in a previous scheme. Important portions can hence be identified by ranks of states. However, Mehta et al.'s ranking scheme is based on the PageRank algorithm which models a web surfing scenario, but has not considered much on the dissimilarity between web surfing scenarios and computer system intrusion scenarios. In this paper, we extend Mehta et al.'s scheme by taking into consideration dissimilarity between web surfing scenarios and computer system intrusion scenarios. We experiment with the same network model used in Mehta et al.'s scheme and have the results compared. The experiments yielded promising results that demonstrated consistent ranks amongst varying parameters modelled by our ranking scheme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. Determinants of Groupware Usability for Community Care Collaboration.

Abstract

Due to the special requirements of community care, software systems in this industry always have to be developed into shared-workspace groupware systems, which are claimed to achieve job performance more quickly and easily. But the adoption of this kind of systems in Australia is very little and unsuccessful so far. It is observed that the deployment of them always encounters resistance from community care real workers who must use them. One possible cause of this resistance is that the groupware usability is quite dissatisfying, which further causes that the system does not meet user expectations. This research aims to gain a deeper understanding of user perspective and expectation to the interface usability of Community Care Groupware System (CCGS) basing on the specific context of use. A task modeling method is introduced to improve the quality of groupware usability evaluation. A triangulated research methodology comprising unstructured observation, structured and semi-structured questionnaire, and unstructured interview, was conducted on 23 community care workers. Five determinants that most influence the interface usability of CCGS from user's perspective, and several relevant suggestions that make a CCGS really usable in everyday use are elicited from data collection and analysis. Abstract

Recently, the cooperation aspect of distributed teamwork in software engineering has become a hot research topic. This paper first reviews the concepts of cooperative software engineering. Then, a process model for cooperative software engineering is investigated, which forms the starting point for the analysis, structuring, management and synchronization of cooperative software development tasks. Next, universal design principles for an environment to support cooperative software development projects are obtained. The identified design principles serve as the basis for the development of the model.
