The article reports on the field of medical expert systems. The field of medical informatics concerns application of information science and information technology to health care, clinical care, education and biomedical research. Recent developments in medical informatics benefit from the availability of powerful personal computers (workstations), advanced information processing techniques such as the artificial neural network (ANN), and increased acceptance by the clinical community. The basic goals of the use of computers in medicine concern communication and clinically relevant combination of data.
