Bridge Maintenance, Safety, Management, Digitalization and Sustainability collects the lectures and technical papers presented at the 12th International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management (IABMAS 2024, Copenhagen, Denmark, 24-28 June 2024). This Open Access book contains 480 contributions, including the T.Y. Lin Lecture, 9 Keynote Lectures, and 470 technical papers from 44 countries. The contributions are presented bring together academic and technological developments in Bridge Maintenance, Safety, Management, Digitalization and Sustainability, to solve new and old problems with innovative solutions. Major topics include: advanced bridge design, construction and maintenance approaches, safety, reliability and risk evaluation, life-cycle management, life-cycle resilience, sustainability, standardization, analytical models, bridge management systems, service life prediction, structural health monitoring, non-destructive testing and field testing, robustness and redundancy, durability enhancement, repair and rehabilitation, fatigue and corrosion, extreme loads, needs of bridge owners, whole life costing and investment for the future, financial planning and application of information and computer technology, extensive data analysis and artificial intelligence for bridges, among others. Bridge Maintenance, Safety, Management, Digitalization and Sustainability provides an up-to-date overview of the field of bridge engineering and significant contributions to making more rational decisions on bridge safety, maintenance, management, life-cycle, resilience, sustainability, and bridge innovations to enhance society’s welfare. The Editors hope that this book will serve as a valuable reference to all concerned with bridge structure and infrastructure systems, including engineers, researchers, academics, and students from all areas of bridge engineering.

Summary: This book collects research activities focused on the development of new processes to replace obsolete practices that are often highly invasive, unsustainable, and socially unacceptable.Taking inspiration from real problems and the need to face real cases of contamination or prevent potentially harmful situations, the development and optimization of 'smart' solutions, i.e., sustainable not only from an environmental point of view but also economically, are discussed in order to encourage, as much as possible, their actual implementation.

- Abstract
In order to enhance service survivability, an immune-based model for service survivability, referred to as ISSM, is presented. In the model, the concepts and formal definitions of self, nonself, immunocyte, diversity system, and etc., are given; the antibody concentration and the dynamic change process of host status are described. Building on the relationship between the antibody concentration and the state of an illness in the human immune system, the systemic service capability and the service risk are calculated quantitatively. Based on the differences of the immune system among individuals, a service survivability algorithm, dynamic service migration algorithm, is put forth. Simulation results show that the model is real-time and adaptive, thus providing an effective solution for service survivability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Overweight and obesity are increasing worldwide: In Germany, the majority of adults are overweight or obese, and it is almost a quarter among children and adolescents. Obesity means serious health risks and problems for those affected, which can become life-threatening in the context of emergency or hospital treatment. The large number of concomitant diseases and the pathophysiological changes in the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system lead to a significantly increased risk of perioperative complications. To control these risks, special processes and treatment management are necessary: integrated concepts for preoperative evaluation, for adequate airway management with an adapted anesthetic control, as well as for intensive therapy and pain therapy. In addition, these patients require specially trained hospital and rescue personnel, suitable equipment and adequate structural equipment, which all hospitals and healthcare facilities will have to take care of in the future. This practice manual comprehensively conveys the theory and practice of the special requirements, concepts and structures for the treatment and care of overweight or obese adults and children.

In the child and adolescent psychiatric clinics, more and more children and adolescents are being introduced by schools, school psychology services, youth welfare offices and the police in order to have their potential risks assessed professionally. Against this background, but also in view of the dramatic rampage events in Erfurt, Emsdetten and Winnenden, the book provides an overview of the latest interdisciplinary research findings as well as attempts to explain the specific dynamics and conveys treatment concepts and approaches to prevention. The author pursues the principle that only an interdisciplinary approach and the synopsis of the various aspects from a developmental psychological, depth psychological, systemic, neurobiological and sociological perspective can do justice to the complex topic of understanding the dynamics.
