Abstract

The Achilles tendon (tendo calcaneus) is the strongest and thickest tendon in the body and serves to attach the triceps surae (soleus and the two heads of gastrocnemius) to the calcaneus (Fig. 2.1). It is a highly characteristic feature of human anatomy and it has even been suggested that the tendon has helped to shape human evolution. The emergence of man is critically linked to his ability to run, and man's unique combination of moderate speed and exceptional endurance has been underestimated.1 The Achilles tendon has been a key player in the natural selection process, and as in modern apes, an Achilles tendon was absent from Australopithecus (a genus ancestral to the genus Homo) and probably originated in Homo more than 3 million years ago.1. Abstract

Regulated by the intrinsic sinoatrial node automaticity and the modulating influence of the autonomic nervous system, the ECG waves show each one some beat to beat variability. The R-R time series may provide essential information for the determination of hidden cardiopathy and the Q-T series alterations have been proposed as a marker of sudden death risk. The purpose of this study was the software design and implementation to analyze this variability. The developed tools (time, frequency, time-frequency domains and non-linear analysis) in the system were tested through of HRV and QTV study in athletes and non-athletes volunteers. Abstract

Transmembrane potential (Vm) recordings not from isolated cells may be dominated by different types of noise, and the filtering algorithms usually applied for noise suppression of Vm recordings often result in a signal of poor SNR (signal to noise ratio). Conventional filtering algorithms resulted in flattening of Vm deflections and unacceptable time delay. We solved this problem using morphological operators and adaptive alpha-trimmed mean filtering (OMATF) to restore corrupted signal. We applied several filtering approaches in intracellular recordings of T4 (L-thyroxine) hyperpolarization in Sertoli cells, from immature rat tests. The intracellular recording of the Sertoli cells commenced using 2.5 M KCl filled micropipetteds in conjunction with an electrometer, the Vm was amplified by direct current (DC). The amplified signal was displayed and recorded on a digital oscilloscope, the Vm was measured and directly in an intervals of 5 seconds using the electrometer.
