A potentially explosive atmosphere exists when a mixture of air, gases, vapours, mists or dust combines in a way that can ignite under certain operating conditions. Hydrogen is the special gas in this context. Those who have knowledge of the properties and flammability of hydrogen will recognize that hazards due to explosive atmospheres must be assessed more and more frequently as the element is utilized, and, if necessary, appropriate protective measures must be taken. In this kind of atmosphere, special attention should be given to the mechanical equipment that are being used for operational purposes, as they might initiate an explosion. Mechanical equipment used in explosive atmospheres should be assessed through an ignition hazard assessment. They must fulfil the essential health and safety requirements, which implies that they shall be assessed according to their ability to prevent them from becoming ignition sources and their ability to protect against the consequences of an explosion. This paper presents the issue of the ignition hazard assessment of mechanical equipment and points out some aspects that may be important to consider when assessing mechanical systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Ignition of explosive atmospheres by mechanical equipment occurs when energy supplied by equipment is converted into heat, usually as the result of a mechanical failure of the equipment or associated systems. The ignition hazard assessment procedure also involves a series of specific laboratory tests. These tests demonstrate the non-sparking character of the materials used in the manufacture of mechanical equipment and the fact that the assessed equipment does not generate ignition sources able to initiate a potentially explosive atmosphere. The continued development of human society, from the technical and economic point of view, has led to the need for the increasingly widespread use in the various existing industrial branches of chemical substances and compounds in the form of combustible dust and dust. The processing, handling and storage of these pulverized substances often leads to the emergence of complex explosive mixtures whose explosiveness characteristics cannot be assimilated with the data available in the literature. In places where the probability of the occurrence of potentially explosive atmospheres generated by the mixture of combustible dust with air is high, it is necessary to ensure an acceptable level of protection, in accordance with the rules in force, materialized mainly by the use of protected technical equipment in the respective areas suitable. The safety requirements of technical equipment that can be used in areas with combustible dust are established after knowing the type of combustible dust and its sensitivity to ignition, defined mainly by determining the minimum ignition energy of the combustible dust. The paper presents two methods for determining the minimum ignition energy, with a description of the equipment used and the principles of operation. Also, the results obtained from laboratory tests to determine the minimum ignition energy in the case of a combustible powder (nystatin) are presented, using the two methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CILIATA ,ARTIFICIAL intelligence ,TRANSDUCERS - Abstract
We continue here the theoretical study initiated approximately twenty years ago on the possibility of using living cells for computing. In this paper, we reconsider the formal operations inspired by the intramolecular DNA rearrangements in the evolution of the macronucleus from the micronucleus in a group of ciliates. After introducing the concept of a valid string, we propose an efficient algorithm for checking this property for a given string. Then we investigate which of the considered operations preserve the property of a string to be valid. We also show that just one of the operations can be simulated by a finite transducer. The important problem regarding the order of applying the operations is then investigated showing that one operation can commute with the other two. Finally, we introduce the iterated variants and investigate a few properties. A sort of a "normal form" for the gene assembly in ciliates is obtained. The paper ends by a short discussion about open problems and further directions of research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELECTROSTATIC discharges ,EXPLOSIVES detection ,INSTALLATION of equipment ,EXPLOSIONS ,EXPLOSIVES ,MANUFACTURING processes ,ATMOSPHERE ,ELECTRIFICATION - Abstract
Materials and technical equipment, especially their external parts, are inherently subjected to the electrification process during their use. The electrification process of the materials and external parts of the equipment, especially the non-conductive ones, is responsible for the generation, through specific mechanisms, of significant amounts of electrostatic charges. The electrostatic charges generated as a result of the electrification process on the materials and external parts of the technical equipment used in Ex., environments constitute a risk, namely of the occurrence of electrostatic discharges which in the presence of an explosive atmosphere can produce an explosion and/or fire. Consequently, the work aims to identify and establish the technical and organizational methods, respectively the essential safety and health requirements applicable to technical equipment and materials intended for use in environments with explosive atmospheres, the application of which allows the elimination of the risk of electrification and the occurrence of electrostatic discharges and consequently the reduction to an acceptable level of risk of explosion and/or fire. EXPLOSIVES detection ,NONMETALLIC materials ,ELECTRIFICATION ,ATMOSPHERE ,FOSSIL fuels ,ENERGY consumption - Abstract
The continuous development of human society from a technical-economic point of view is closely related to the increase in energy consumption. However, this implies the rapid depletion of existing fossil fuels and an accelerated increase in global pollution. At the moment, to counteract these impediments, one of the most important sources that can be used for the purpose of energy production, without having a negative impact on the environment, is hydrogen. Due to the fact that, when mixed with air, hydrogen can generate potentially explosive atmospheres, it is necessary to adopt and apply protective measures aimed at ensuring an acceptable level of protection in accordance with current regulations. These measures materialize mainly through the use of appropriately protected technical equipment in locations where potentially explosive atmospheres generated by the presence of hydrogen are possible. Some of these equipment's are provided with non-metallic casings on which the type of protection of the respective equipment depends. That is why, in order to demonstrate the ability of the non-metallic materials that make up the equipment casings, to maintain the specific type of protection after exposure to extreme, positive and negative temperatures, it is of particular importance to determine the thermal endurance of the respective casings by performing laboratory tests. This paper highlights the importance of determining the thermal endurance in the case of equipment with non-metallic casings and non-metallic parts of the casings intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres generated by hydrogen, as well as the method and equipment required to perform laboratory tests for its determination. The electrification process of the materials and technical equipment's, especially the external parts of them, frequently occur during their use, being sometimes an intrinsic process, such as for example flowing of a flammable liquid through a pipe. The electrification process of materials and technical equipment's is responsible for generating, through specific mechanisms, significant quantities of electrostatic charges. The presence of electrostatic charges on materials and technical equipment's, used in areas with explosive atmospheres as a result of the electrification process can lead to electrostatic discharges occurrence, which in the presence of an explosive atmosphere may cause an explosion and/or fire. The purpose of the paper is the analyze of essential safety and health requirements applicable to technical equipment's and materials intended for use in areas with explosive atmospheres in order to identify and establish technical and organizational measures, by their application can eliminate the risk of electrification, the occurrence of electrostatic discharges and consequently the risk of an explosion and/or fire may be reduced. The processing, transport and storage of flammable materials in the formof dust generates an explosion risk due to the possibility of initiating potentially explosive atmospheres created by dust suspended in air with various ignition sources, some of which may be their own installations. As explosions can cause human casualties and severe property damage, the explosion risk assessment and the application of appropriate measures by manufacturers and users of installations to prevent the ignition of explosive atmospheres is of particular importance for the safety and health of persons and goods. This paper deals with both technical and procedural aspects related to the risk assessment for belt conveyors for bulk materials, with reference to the requirements of European directives and applicable standards. There are two European Directives, so-called ATEx Directives, which regulate the placing on the European market of products intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and their safe use: Directive 2014/34/EU and Directive 1999/92/EC. The paper presents some aspects regarding the border situations where the two directives apply, in the case of assemblies of equipment to be assessed by a manufacturer in accordance with the Directive 2014/34/EU for putting on the market and the installations that are equipment assembled by the user under his responsibility and have to be assessed by users in accordance with the Directive 1999/92/EC requirements. TEACHERS' workload ,TEACHERS ,EDUCATIONAL objectives ,EDUCATIONAL standards ,CASE method (Teaching) ,WORKING hours - Abstract
(I) The quality of the teaching workforce needs to be improved to raise the educational standard. To achieve a higher standard of learning, it is crucial to identify the factors that contribute to teachers' workload. Teacher performance management is key to effectively achieving the goals and objectives of high-quality educational standards, as it is an ongoing process for identifying, evaluating and developing teacher performance. (M) The research was organised based on the chosen model: content analysis was performed, and a solid theoretical background was created. Before implementing the model, a survey was applied to K-12 teachers of LINK Educational Alliance (Serbia). The survey was used as a test method and the online questionnaire as a data collection method for methods, techniques, and instruments. In addition, observation (with participation) was used. Induction, deduction and statistical methods (descriptive statistics) also. The most significant educational alliance in the Republic of Serbia was observed to extract good practices within the case study method. The survey method was used to specify significant components of the K-12 teachers' workload. (R) An exploratory study on an adequate and representative sample was made. This is a preliminary study for a larger one - the country size. Results showed that K-12 teachers of the observed educational alliance have genuine knowledge about AI. Regarding the analysis of working hours composition, i.e. the review of current practices of LEA teachers, the analysis is based on the mean value calculated based on answers that had a normal distribution that LEA teachers have their opinion based on projected -wanted working hours composition. (D) We may think that our teachers are effective because they do the right things, but there is always room to increase efficiency by conducting work activities in optimal ways. Once when the composition of the teacher activity is identified, productivity gaps must be uncovered and potential segments for improvement and automatisation of the components. GRAIN storage ,VENTILATION ,PRODUCT quality ,LOW temperatures ,TEMPERATURE measurements - Abstract
The problem of grain storage and storage can be approached from two perspectives: storage and storage of cereals and technical plants within individual agricultural holdings; storage and storage of cereals and technical plants within agricultural associations and companies. At the level of Romania, the storage and storage of cereals at small agricultural producers are deficient in terms of ensuring optimal storage conditions according to standards. These variants include: preservation at low temperatures; preservation by active aeration; self-preservation; chemical preservation; conservation with the help of radiation. In the paper we will approach the conservation by active aeration because it folds better for small agricultural producers. Proper aeration is one of the most important processes in a grain storage system and is essential for maintaining the quality of stored products. Aeration means the movement of a relatively small volume of air through the grain mass in order to control the temperature of the grain and to reduce the risk of product degradation. The two main objectives of aeration are to maintain a uniform temperature in the grain mass and at the same time the temperature must be as low as possible from a practical point of view. The paper will present the results of experiments for storing bulk grain in a metal cell with central aeration system, which is based on a patent. This type of storage system can be used successfully in small agricultural producers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FLAMMABLE liquids ,STATIC electricity ,EXPLOSIONS ,ELECTROSTATIC discharges ,DIESEL fuels ,VAPOR pressure ,ELECTRIC conductivity - Abstract
Many operations with flammable liquids produce flammable atmospheres by evaporation of the liquid being handled. In some circumstances, the flammable atmosphere is not due to the liquid being handled but due to residues of volatile liquid or vapor from earlier operations with the same equipment as is often the case with diesel fuel handling. This paper highlights some aspects regarding the danger of fires and explosions in the transport, storage and distribution of diesel fuel starting from the investigation of the causes that led to the occurrence of repeated events at a fuel loading ramp during loading of road tanks with diesel - ignition of flammable atmosphere by electrostatic discharge. Use of new types of fuels, ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel), as a result of the implementation of environmental legislation, has increased the risk of explosion, because these types of diesel are easily charged with static electricity. Factors that need to be considered to reduce the risk of ignition sunt flammability characteristics of explosive atmosphere (the vapor pressure, flash point, temperature, and pressure) and the factors that determine the charging of static electricity (fuel type, electrical conductivity, sulfur content, viscosity, vehicle process: flow rate, pipe diameter, filters, pumps, spark promoters). The evolution of the living standard in Romania has been affected by numerous factors along the past three decades, from the transition to the market economy and the EU pre-accession periods to the EU integration during two programming periods. The poverty rates, the severe material deprivation, along with poverty and exclusion risks are still oscillating within the frame of an unconsolidated regional development growth. The developments over the past twelve years have, to a certain extent, alleviated the situation of the most vulnerable rural households, yet the regional disparities indicate insufficient inner convergence efforts for a balanced territorial development. Further territorial cohesion programming is required to reduce the discrepancies and the targeted development with particular accent for the socially vulnerable categories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Explosive risk occurs in all activities involving flammable substances in the form of gases, vapors, mists or dusts which, in mixture with air, can generate an explosive atmosphere. As explosions can cause human losses and huge material damage, the assessment of the explosion risk and the establishment of appropriate measures to reduce it to acceptable levels according to the standards and standards in force is of particular importance for the safety and health of people and goods. There is no yet a recognized method of assessing the explosion risk, but regardless of the applied method, the likelihood of an explosive atmosphere occurrence has to be determined, together with the occurrence of an efficient ignition source and the magnitude of foreseeable consequences. Methods and means applicable for a correct analysis of the explosion security must take in consideration the characteristics of the flammable substances generating the explosive atmosphere and the likelihood of its occurrence, the likelihood of sources ignition, safety devices, controlling devices and regulating devices and existing protective systems. An essential element in assessing the risk of explosion in workplaces where explosive atmospheres may occur is technical installations and personal protective equipment (PPE) that must be designed, manufactured, installed and maintained so that they cannot generate a source of ignition. Explosion prevention and protection requirements are governed by specific norms and standards, and a main part of the explosion risk assessment is related to the assessment of the compliance of the equipment / installation with these requirements. The purpose of the work is to highlight the important principles and elements to be taken into account for assessment of the explosion risk (explosion risk assessment) for the establishment of appropriate measures to reduce it to acceptable levels, as provided by the norms. We can say that, through abiding by the norms, the presumption of providing an acceptable risk level is ensured. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Conveyor belts are used for a long period of time in the industry branches where potentially explosive atmospheres could occur. The use of conveyor belts in industrial spaces with danger of explosive atmospheres, implies fulfilling by these of certain safety requirements, in order to prevent the ignition sources of explosive atmospheres. The need to provide the highest level of protection in the industrial spaces with danger of explosive atmospheres led, on the one hand, to the use of conveyor belts with adequate properties of protection against ignition sources on the other hand, to the development of test methods of these conveyor belts for the purpose of assessing compliance with the requirements specific to prevent the initiation of explosive atmospheres. The assessment of the conformity of the conveyor belts with the safety requirements specific to the Ex., domain, is based on the analysis of characteristic parameters for protection against ignition sources, such as, for example, a flame generated by the blocking of a conveyor belt during operation, as a result of the friction between the conveyor belt and the drive drum, the parameters that are determined by laboratory tests. The accuracy of the results obtained needed for the conformity assessment process depends on a number of factors such as the microclimate conditions (temperature, relative humidity) in which testing is carried out, but also the exactness of the application of the test method (s) by the personnel involved. Therefore, the paper aims at identifying the influence factors regarding to assuring the quality of the tests for the determination of the drum friction for conveyor belts in order to obtain the most accurate results. Assurance of tests quality is a requirement imposed by the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025 for the accreditation of testing laboratories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CANNABIS (Genus) ,HEMP ,HARVESTING machinery ,KINEMATICS of machinery ,MEDICINAL plants ,PLANT fibers - Abstract
HEMP (Cannabis Sativa - Industrial Hemp) is the industrial plant with the highest use of all these plants in the industry, since nothing is thrown away from this plant. Hemp is the plant of which everything is used, and the products obtained are of a great diversity, from the common rope to the medicinal or cosmetic substances, textiles, automotive or construction materials. It is an unpretentious plant because, apart from the fact that it wants a neutral PH and soils without excess humidity, no maintenance work need to be done and no extra care should be given. The fibre hemp is harvested at the technical maturity when the male plants shed the last pollen grains, and the stalks have a greenish-yellow colour and the leaves fell on the ground. Production management is different for an exclusive fibre production. If we look for raw materials that meet the demands of different areas of the economy with the lowest costs, we must take into account the reactivation of the hemp culture at the level of Romania, because, as we mentioned above, hemp is the plant of which everything is capitalised, and the products obtained are of a great diversity. By applying the technology for processing the stalks in green, the obtained fibre can be used with special results in the strawberry culture at the mulching operation. The paper presents the Equipment for harvesting green hemp stalks - ERCV, equipment that performs sequential harvesting of hemp stalks leaving them on the ground. At the same time, factors that influence the process of harvesting hemp stalks are presented: harvesters’ cutting devices, kinematic of the cutting blades, cutting speed, cutting angles of the cutting blades, the forces acting on the blade and the power required to drive the cutting devices. Considering that raw materials that meet the needs of the different areas of the economy with the lowest costs are sought, the reactivation of the hemp culture in Romania must be taken into consideration as well, because hemp (Cannabis Sativa L. - industrial hemp) is the industrial plant most widely used in the industry, and from this plant everything is used. The products obtained from hemp are of a great variety, from the common rope to the medicinal or cosmetic substances, textiles, automotive or construction materials. The fibres content in the stalks have a number of properties that are particularly valuable as (traction, torsion, friction, rot) resistance, extensibility (elastic and plastic), spinning capacity. In this paper we introduce an experimental model of towed technical equipment for harvesting green hemp stalks with hydraulic drive, designed, manufactured and tested by the specialists from INMA Bucharest. The paper presents the constructive-functional scheme, the functional description and the technical and functional characteristics of the Equipment for harvesting green hemp stalks ERCV-0. The ERCV-0 equipment is provided with a hydraulic installation with which the cutting devices, consisting of two knives placed at different heights and offset horizontally are operated, with the possibility of folding during transport. This equipment performs sequential harvesting of hemp stalks leaving them organised on the ground and it is intended for small and medium-sized farms, as required by many farmers who grow industrial hemp and they want the further processing of the stalks. Over the past decades, theories have predicted the existence of heavy compact objects containing an extremely dense form of exotic matter named Strange Quark Matter (SQM). This type of hypothetical matter is composed of nearly equal quantities of up, down and strange quarks and is supposed to be the ground state of Quantum Chromodynamics. Nuclearites are the massive component of SQM particles. Some studies show that nuclearites heavier than 10
13 GeV with velocities of approximately 250 km/s could reach the Earth and could be observed by neutrino telescopes. In this paper, Monte Carlo simulations are used in order to evaluate the preliminary results on the sensitivity of KM3NeT/ARCA to a flux of down-going nuclearites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Explosive mixtures generated in technological installations by processing, handling and storage are generally complex and in many cases cannot be assimilated with existing specific data. When ignited, they can burn rapidly and result in a considerable explosion force, when in mixture with air in proper proportions. Therefore, for establishing with certainty the requirements of the technical equipment which can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres generated by air / combustible dust mixtures, it is necessary to know the type of dust, as well as a series of parameters defining its sensitivity to ignition by different sources, defined as the minimum ignition energy – MIE. One of the ignition sources of the explosive dust / air atmosphere is electrostatic discharge. The ignition risk assessment of the explosive mixture by electrostatic discharge is done by comparing the electrostatic discharge energies with the minimum explosive atmosphere ignition - MIE. Therefore, knowledge of the minimum ignition energy of processed, transported or stored dusts in installations is very important in the process of ignition risk assessment and for establishing the measures for explosion prevention and / or protection. This paper presents a comparative study having in view the methods used for the determination of the minimum ignition energy of the air/combustible dust mixtures with different apparatus on the same types of dust. By knowing this parameter of the air/combustible dust mixtures, there can be correlated the protection / prevention measures and the safety features according to the specific application. Static electricity as a result of friction and induction loading mechanisms is a phenomenon that occurs frequently in the industry, most of the time accidentally and unwanted. The electrostatic charges accumulated by workers during various activities may lead to electrostatic discharges, which, in the presence of an explosive atmosphere, cause explosion and / or fire risk. Theoretical and practical studies regarding the occurrence, formation and accumulation of electrostatic charges in the charging process with electrostatic charges of workers during carried out the activity in potentially explosive atmospheres, as well as the many events, explosions generated by the ignition of explosive atmospheres by electrostatic discharges from person, highlights the need to assess the risk of charging with electrostatic charges and, consequently, the risk of explosion at each workplace. The assessment of these two risks aims at identifying the technical and organizational solutions to be applied to eliminate or at least reduce to an acceptable level the risk generated by electrostatic charging of workers in the presence of potentially explosive atmospheres to ensure security and health at work at a level as high as possible. The need to ensure the highest possible level of protection in industrial spaces with danger of explosive atmospheres implies the avoidance of formation, accumulation and discharge of electrostatic charges that may be generated on the body or clothing of workers during carried out the activities in areas with potentially explosive atmosphere. The paper presents the results of some case studies carried out, being highlighted some aspects that should be taken into consideration when assessing the risk of electrostatic charging with electrostatic charges of workers in Ex areas, in order to avoid undesirable events that often involve important material damage and losses of human lives. In case of using equipment in areas classified as with hazard of potentially explosive atmospheres, this shall be designed so as to avoid the ignition of the surrounding explosive atmosphere in which it is intended to operate. Equipment designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres have to be assessed according the provisions of the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU regarding the ensuring of explosion protection characteristics. In case of electrical equipment this assessment usually uses the provisions of some specific harmonized standards which are under the scope of the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. For some specific types of protection that can be applied to electrical equipment (i.e. increased safety "e" and intrinsic safety "i") the clearances and creepage distances must be assessed. Clearances and creepage distances are important elements for ensuring the explosion protection characteristics in case of electrical equipment with type of protection increased safety "e" and intrinsic safety "i", in order to avoid the occurrence of electrical arcs and sparks in normal operation and under certain specific abnormal conditions. The purpose of the paper is to underline the importance of insulation distances (and maintaining those insulation distances at certain specific values) and also to make an objective comparison related to clearances and creepage distances for these two types of protection (increased safety "e" and intrinsic safety "i").
