The objective of present study is to compare the characteristic of the Gaga's chicken based on morphometric and bioacoustics analysis. According to the crowing sound, so, there were two types of Gaga's chicken were found such as, 'slow' type and "dangdut type", respectively. Twenty samples were collected from Pinrang, South Sulawesi whereas the rest of seven samples were collected from Kebayoran Lama, Southern Jakarta, respectively. The body weight of the "slow type" from Pinrang was heavier (1983.53±407.55 g) than Kebayoran Lama (1620±630.77 g). The similar result was also showed the body weight of the "dangdut type" from Kebayoran Lama was lighter (1716.67±246.64 g) than from Pinrang (1872±494.69 g). Based on bioacoustic analysis the beats of "slow type" were 3-5 times whereas the beats of "dangdut type" were 4-7 times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims at analyzing the current state of knowledge regarding digital pheromones. Like in nature, where pheromones serve as certain sort of coordination and communication mechanism between animals, they can work in the same way for artificially created agents, such as robots. There are several questions related with digital pheromones: how to create their valid model on a computer, how to work effectively with it, how to share digital pheromones between agents, how to connect digital and real world, and more. Michael J. Owren made lasting contributions to the study of primate, including human, communication. Today's session honors Michael's contributions to the field, and it's an honor to be invited to the session and to help pay tribute to his work. In doing so, I reflect on my own extended history with Michael, both as collaborator and friend, and on his many and varied contributions to theory, methods and empirical findings in research on human and nonhuman primates. The theory of costly signaling suggests that cheating can be controlled by the handicap principle, suggesting that "the reliability of communication (or advertisement) is increased in relation to the investment in the advertisement." (Zahavi, 1977, p. 603) This theory, which to date has been widely researched in animal communication and human social interactions promises a new view on public relations as an organizational function. This paper is about inter-species communication between dogs and cats and is based on a survey of households where both dogs and cats were present. Using play as our focus, we explore the issue of how dogs and cats negotiate a relationship through interaction given that they speak "different languages." Drawing on ethnographic research in an animal shelter, in-depth interviews, and auto-ethnography, this paper articulates a model of the self that does not depend on spoken language. Interaction between people and animals reveals dimensions of self that appear among animals, namely, the self as systems of goals on one hand and experiences on the other. The latter constitutes a "core" self consisting of agency, coherence, affectivity, and history. Conceptualizing selfhood in this way offers critical access to animals' subjective presence, which adds to interactionist research on intersubjective experience between people and animals. The article focuses on a research project related to use of sounds by animals that was funded by a seed grant from the U.S. National Park Service. It mentions that soundscapes are important features of national parks and natural landscapes. It also mentions about potential strategies and tactics afforded by mobile technologies as a way to create connections between traditional advocates of national parks and the next generation of potential supporters and learning through smartphones.

This research draws on ethnography and interview data to show how the body is a basis for communication between women and horses. Because humans cannot "speak" horse and horses do not use verbal language as a means of communication, together they must create a system of communication within a medium that they both can understand. The language of the horse works through the body such that horses must use their bodies to communicate their subjective presence. Given that humans cannot convey intentions to horses through spoken language, they too must use their bodies to generate a communication style to which the horse can respond - Through the language of the body, the human and the horse can begin to recognize each other's subjective presence. One way for the human to learn the subjective presence of the horse is to pay close attention to the bodily gestures of the horse to understand if the horse is scared, angry, willing, happy, approachable and so on. The human must also be keenly aware of his or her own bodily gestures with the knowledge that horses understand their subjective presence through the medium of the body. Achieving intersubjectivity between the human and horse is crucial for the safety of both the horse and the human. It also becomes the foundation for a positive working relationship between the two, because once the human and the horse share intersubjectivity they can work together to accomplish complex activities in joint alignment. Further, this style of communication, or this mutual language between horse body and human body fosters a deeper emotional connection and supports the growth of a meaningful relationship between horse and human. In terms of the sociology of the body, this research raises important questions about the body as symbolic interaction and suggests the possibility of symbolic interaction on a non-discursive basis, and asks how as sociologists do we study communication with another species, or communication that.
