The growth in casual clothing for the workplace, moves towards more technical garments for leisurewear and active sportswear, changes in domestic and industrial laundering and the introduction of relatively new eco requirements have highlighted problems of poor Colour retention and wet fastness of some cellulosic garments. These problems range from fading due to the effect of light, of light in the presence of moisture, fading due to repeated domestic or industrial laundering or cross staining in the case of Colour blocked garments. This has resulted in changes in Colour fastness testing procedures, the introduction of new testing protocols and revisions in the standard that is now judged to be required for the production of garments that are fit for purpose. Fading of coloured garments caused by the effects of domestic laundering, and the impact fashion trends towards Colour blocked garments, eco standards, and the light related effects have had on wet fastness requirements are reviewed. A guide to dye selection is outlined for the production of garments that are not required to fade or stain adjacent fabrics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
